Brenna Peloquin

GIG HARBOR HIGH SCHOOL. BY MERIDITH HATCH. THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT for track and cross-country runner senior Brenna Peloquin. As a junior last year, Brenna placed 4th at the 4A cross-country state championships. At the 4A track state championships Brenna placed 6th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:56.67 and won the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:43.12. Her personal best time for the 3200 is 10:32.28. “I love running because whenever I step out and train I know my hard work will pay off; nothing can replace the feeling of giving my absolute best,” Brenna explains. “Being a runner made me realize that it’s important to have balance in my life. I know that I may not always be a competitive runner, so it’s important to make sure that running is not the only thing in my life.” Finding this balance wasn’t easy. Following her freshman year, Brenna experienced a hip injury that prevented her from running for almost a year, though she turned to biking and swimming to continue her training. Brenna found herself disheartened by her lengthy recovery, but she credits her parents for reminding her that she always

had the option to stop training/running because running is just a small part of who she is. “I focused on my academics, choir, and church instead of running. Most of all, I put my running future in God’s hands. I would pray to God that I would be healed, but always with the acknowledgement that His will be done.” Brenna continues, “Going through this injury made me realize how much I truly love running, and it also made me appreciate the fact that God has given me a gift.” Brenna enjoys her English classes because she loves writing and reading. With a GPA of 3.975, Brenna is the president of National Honor Society at GHHS. Brenna sings with the Meistersingers choir and is an active member of Saint Nicholas Parish. Brenna helps teach Sunday school and assists in other church-related volunteer work. Brenna plans on running at the collegiate level and is being courted to run both cross-country and track for colleges at the Division 1 level. She has been offered several athletic and academic scholarships and plans to study medicine.

RUNNING “I love running because whenever I step out and train I know my hard work will pay off; nothing can replace the feeling of giving my absolute best.”

Favorite food: “Dairy Queen blizzards made with peanut butter, Oreos, and chocolate ice cream!” Favorite teacher: Mrs. Van Dragt and Mr. Whitesell. “Their classes were the most challenging classes that I ever took, but I became a better student and learned so much having had them as teachers.”
