INTERIOR MEETS EXTERIOR

Combing your favorite cozy exterior elements with your interior makes for a beautiful, natural space

In the ever-evolving world of interior design, a captivating trend has emerged—bringing the allure of the exterior indoors. As homeowners seek to create spaces that seamlessly blend with the natural world, a palette of exterior elements finds its place within the sanctuary of our homes. Natural stones, with their timeless elegance, are no longer confined to outdoor spaces; they grace our living rooms and kitchens, infusing a sense of organic luxury. Mixed woods, reminiscent of sprawling forests, now find a home in our bedrooms, creating warmth and character.

Greenery, once confined to gardens, introduces a breath of fresh air within our living spaces, promoting not just aesthetic appeal but also a connection with nature. The industrial charm, once associated with outdoor architecture, now defines chic urban interiors, embracing the raw beauty of exposed materials. Molding, a hallmark of exterior detailing, now adorns our interiors, adding sophistication and depth.

Natural tones and colors, inspired by earth’s palette, dominate modern interiors, fostering a sense of tranquility and serenity. This convergence of exterior aesthetics with interior design reflects a desire to create harmonious spaces that reflect the beauty of the natural world within the confines of our homes. Join us on a journey where the boundaries between inside and outside blur, and the elements of nature become integral parts of our domestic landscapes.

natural stones

Embarking on a journey to bring the outdoors inside, the timeless allure of natural stone emerges as a focal point in contemporary interior design. Beyond its traditional outdoor role, natural stone, with its unique textures and hues, now graces our indoor living spaces, adding a touch of organic sophistication. Whether adorning countertops, accent walls, or flooring, the sheer versatility of natural stone introduces a tactile and visual richness that transcends conventional design boundaries. From the rugged charm of slate to the elegant veins of marble, each stone variety tells a story of earth’s artistry. Its cooling properties also make it a practical choice for spaces seeking thermal equilibrium. The integration of natural stone seamlessly connects our interiors with the tranquility and timelessness of the natural world, creating a harmonious sanctuary within the confines of our homes.

COOL TONES

Transform your indoor haven by embracing cool tones — serene blues, tranquil greens and soothing grays. These hues effortlessly evoke a sense of calm, making your living space a haven of relaxation. From accent walls to furnishings, incorporating cool tones adds a touch of sophistication and modernity. Elevate your interior ambiance with this refreshing color palette, creating a sanctuary that reflects tranquility and style.

bring the elements indoors

Bringing a firepit table indoors ingeniously merges the allure of outdoor living with the comfort of your indoor space. This innovative feature introduces a unique, cozy ambiance reminiscent of starry nights around a campfire. It becomes a focal point for social gatherings, offering the warmth and charm of an outdoor firepit with the convenience and safety of indoor settings.

Designed to be smokeless and suitable for indoor use, these tables enhance the room’s aesthetic while providing a novel entertainment element. They perfectly blend the rustic feel of outdoor adventures with the sophistication of modern living, creating an inviting, multifunctional space for relaxation and socializing.

green green green

Breathe life into your indoor spaces by embracing the invigorating presence of greenery. Beyond traditional outdoor realms, plants and foliage have become essential interior design elements, infusing homes with natural vitality. Whether it’s cascading vines, statement potted plants or a lush indoor garden, incorporating greenery adds a touch of biophilic beauty.

Not only do these living accents purify the air, but they also contribute to a sense of well-being and tranquility. The dynamic interplay of textures and shades of green creates visual interest, transforming your living space into a verdant oasis. Embrace the trend of biophilic design and let nature flourish indoors, fostering a connection to the outdoors within the comfort of your home

INDUSTRIAL

Infuse urban flair into your indoor living space by incorporating industrial elements. Exposed brick, steel and concrete bring raw, edgy charm, creating a contemporary ambiance. Utilize metal fixtures, pendant lights and reclaimed materials to amplify the industrial aesthetic. This design trend not only adds a touch of urban sophistication but also celebrates the beauty found in the unconventional, transforming your home into a stylish and eclectic haven.

Envelop your living space in the organic comfort of natural fibers. Woven baskets, jute rugs and textured accessories bring the essence of the outdoors inside, adding an earthy and tactile quality. These elements not only infuse warmth but also connect your home to the natural world. Choose natural fibers for a touch of relaxed elegance, creating an interior ambiance that mirrors the serenity and authenticity of nature.

floor-to-ceiling windows

Floor-to-ceiling windows serve as transformative portals that seamlessly integrate the natural world with interior spaces. By ushering in abundant natural light and panoramic views, these expansive windows dissolve the boundaries between indoor and outdoor environments. The transparency of floor-to-ceiling windows creates a visual continuity, allowing inhabitants to revel in the ever-changing beauty of nature throughout the day. The interplay of sunlight, shadows and the surrounding landscape becomes an intrinsic part of the interior ambiance.

Moreover, these windows enhance the sense of spaciousness, making rooms feel larger and more interconnected. Beyond aesthetics, the incorporation of floor-to-ceiling windows promotes a connection to the outdoors, fostering a serene atmosphere that positively influences well-being and enriches the living experience.

living walls

Living walls, adorned with lush vegetation, effortlessly blur the line between interior and exterior spaces, infusing homes with a breath of natural vitality. These vertical gardens not only serve as striking visual features but also contribute to improved indoor air quality by filtering pollutants. The presence of living walls transforms interiors into vibrant, organic sanctuaries, offering a constant reminder of nature’s rejuvenating influence. As greenery thrives on the walls, residents enjoy a connection to the outdoors, creating a harmonious and refreshing ambiance within the confines of their home.

Craft an environment that exudes both timeless elegance and contemporary flair.

MIXED WOODS

Transform your indoor sanctuary with the rich allure of mixed woods, a design trend that beautifully marries various wood tones and textures. Gone are the days of uniformity — today’s interiors embrace diversity, blending light and dark woods to create a harmonious tapestry of warmth and sophistication. Whether in furniture, flooring or accents, the juxtaposition of oak, walnut and maple infuses spaces with organic charm. This eclectic approach not only adds visual interest but also reflects a connection to nature’s diversity. Embrace the depth and character inherent in mixed woods, crafting an environment that exudes both timeless elegance and contemporary flair. The result is an indoor living space that encapsulates the beauty and complexity of the natural world.

terracotta elements

Infuse your living space with the earthy allure of terracotta elements. Whether in the form of pots, tiles or accessories, these warm-hued additions not only introduce a touch of rustic elegance but also foster a seamless connection with outdoor landscapes. The distinctive reddish-brown tones evoke the warmth of sun-drenched landscapes, creating an ambiance that is both inviting and timeless. Terracotta pots housing vibrant greenery bring nature indoors, while tiles add character to floors and walls. Embrace this versatile material to sculpt an interior that mirrors the soothing embrace of the natural world, enveloping your home in a palette inspired by the rich tapestry of the great outdoors.

30 BONNERS FERRY LIVING LOCAL SPRING 2024 THE COALITION | COWORK OPENS A NEW 7,500-SQUARE-FOOT WORKSPACE FACILITY
local feature

Creativity, collaboration and an appreciation for community are some of the core values that Tim Garcia has exhibited throughout his entrepreneurial career.

Utilizing his expertise in business management and his experience founding numerous organizations, Tim has become a catalyst in the Bonners Ferry community since he and his family moved here seven years ago.

“I just like creating/building stuff,” Tim explained. “It’s not always stress-free, but the end vision generally gets me to the finish line.”

One of Tim’s latest projects has been the building and launching of a new 7,500-square-foot collaborative workspace and warehouse called The Coalition | Cowork, which features state-of-the-art facilities designed to build community around entrepreneurship and skill-sharing.

Although the building and amenities are brand new, Tim’s vision for The Coalition is something that has constantly evolved and expanded since he arrived in North Idaho. In fact, The Coalition began as a Facebook group in 2017 that Tim started to connect with other business owners and professionals in the area.

31 SPRING 2024 BONNERS FERRY LIVING LOCAL
Tim’s passion for creativity is evident in The Coalition | Cowork’s lavish new building, but his heart for connectivity is the foundation that it is built on.

“My intentions [for creating the page] were selfish,” Tim admitted. “I just wanted to meet other like-minded people up here.”

Through The Coalition, Tim hosted a handful of events and received a lot of positive responses from the community.

In 2021, The Coalition opened its first brick-and-mortar location in a small but functional workspace just off Main Street downtown. Quickly, Tim realized that the building was a bit cramped, and in 2022 he began construction on The Coalition’s new building.

The Coalition | Cowork is now located north of town at 188 Plato Drive near 3-Mile Café. Tim opted for a soft launch of the new building in late 2023, allowing a handful of select businesses — including one of Tim’s other businesses, Überleben — to utilize the space.

This larger space has allowed The Coalition to exponentially expand its infrastructure and create room for amenities like dedicated private offices, conference rooms, a third-party logistics shipping fulfillment center as well as photo, video and podcasting studios — just to name a few.

Ultimately, while Tim is happy to provide so many top-notch services to his customers, the purpose of the space is greater than its list of conveniences.

“Aside from all the listed amenities, including fiber optic internet, The Coalition is about building community around entrepreneurship and skill sharing,” Tim noted. “There’s a strong energy that comes with working in proximity with other like-minded people.”

The Coalition | Cowork is currently offering discounted early bird pricing at $99 per month for full access to the facilities — a price that will increase once it is fully up-and-running. Tim and his team are continuing to build out the interior of the space and automating its processes, which include

after-hours keyless entry and in-app purchases of snacks and beverages. His goal is to host a grand opening for The Coalition | Cowork this spring.

In the meantime, Tim and The Coalition | Cowork are hosting a Monthly Morning Mixer, which takes place from 7:30 to 8:30am on the second Tuesday of each month. This collaborative time, which is open to anyone who wants to check it out, features free coffee and donuts and is a great means to connect with others from the community.

Since its inception in 2017, The Coalition has always facilitated opportunities for local entrepreneurs and professionals to collaboratively share ideas and experiences for the betterment of not only themselves but the entire community.

“Surprisingly, networking in a small town can be difficult,” Tim acknowledged. “Without creating some kind of infrastructure to facilitate, people tend to stay in.” Tim’s passion for creativity is evident in The Coalition | Cowork’s lavish new building, but his heart for connectivity is the foundation that it is built on.

Pro Tips From Your Local Flower Farmer

Harness the spring’s magic for thriving blooms

Prep your soil with compost enriched by the region’s rich organic matter. Choose cold-hardy varieties like lupines, dahlias and peonies, perfect for our climate. Begin seeds indoors or in a greenhouse to extend the growing season. Stay vigilant for late frosts, covering tender shoots when necessary. Employ native plants like yarrow and lavender as natural pest repellents. Balance watering, mindful of our region’s precipitation patterns. Harvest early in the morning to preserve freshness amidst our crisp mountain air. With these tips, your North Idaho flower farm will flourish.

Trust Family Flooring for all of your flooring needs

Chuck and Cindi Rude discovered the beauty of Bonners Ferry and knew this was the place they wanted to one day retire. But the couple loved the area so much that they decided not to wait until retirement to make the move, and the couple, along with their youngest son Kolten, have called Bonners Ferry home for the past three years. With their move, and seeing there was a void to fill in the flooring industry, they brought along the family business with them, carrying on the legacy of Family Flooring, which Chuck’s father opened in 1984. The Rudes opened Family Flooring in Bonners Ferry and have been serving the community since 2021.

“We’re family owned and operated, with 40-plus years in the industry, and take pride in the fact that we have a vast understanding in the industry, product knowledge, and our own installation crews,” Cindi shares.

Chuck grew up in the flooring industry, as his father was an installer who then opened Family Flooring, so Chuck grew up installing. Chuck married Cindi in 1995, and a decade later, the couple purchased the business from Chuck’s parents. Today, as second-generation owners, Cindi runs the office and showroom while Chuck leads the installs.

At Family Flooring, they offer a wide array of flooring for both homeowners and contractors — from wood, laminate and luxury vinyl plank to carpet, commercial carpet and ceramic tile. This full-service store stocks several pallets of vinyl plank, many rolls of in-stock carpet, as well as a huge selection (over 200!) of carpet and vinyl remnants. They also do repair work and re-stretch carpet.

“We bring quality products, knowledge and service at affordable prices,” smiles Cindi. “It is our passion to help others and serve where we are needed.”

Family Flooring is honored to be in the area and provide a local full-service store that didn’t exist prior to their opening. Specializing in residential and commercial work, they are here to serve your needs, whether you are a homeowner or contractor needing products and installation or just products. No matter what your flooring wants and needs are, Family Flooring has the products to match, working with the industry’s leading brands (Shaw, Mohawk, CarpetPlus COLORTILE) to ensure their products are of the highest quality.

When working with Family Flooring, customers can expect honesty, integrity and values. “With our extensive product knowledge and ability to problem-solve, we truly care about each one of our customers. We listen to their needs and guide them to the best products suited to those needs,” Cindi affirms.

When it comes to what Cindi and Chuck find most rewarding about their business and the services they provide, it’s the smiles on their customers’ faces when Family Flooring is finished with their floors. They are also appreciative of all the word-of-mouth referrals and kind reviews they continue to receive since opening the store.

When asked what they believe has maintained their success the past three years, Chuck says, “Being honest and doing what is right, every time, and our exceptional customer service and customer satisfaction. And we are always available for our customers — even in emergencies.”

The Rudes are grateful to call Bonners Ferry home and own a business where they are able to serve their community and support other local businesses and area youth. They have three children: Alyssa (26), Jacob (24) and Kolten (17). The couple is a very active supporter of Badger Football (Kolten is a senior this year and was on the football team) and love to volunteer wherever they can within the local community and church.

If you are looking for high-quality craftsmanship, professional service and installs by a team you can trust, Chuck and Cindi invite you to stop by Family Flooring today.

How the Boundary Community Auxiliary Makes Our Hospital Shine

Nestled within the heart of our community beats Boundary Community Hospital, but behind the scenes, another force works tirelessly: the Boundary Community Hospital Auxiliary. These incredible volunteers, armed with compassion and dedication, are the unsung heroes who help make our hospital shine.

For over six decades, the Auxiliary has served as the hospital’s silent guardian angel. Their unwavering commitment translates into tangible support, from purchasing vital equipment and specialized medical aids (like a specialized walker for joint replacement patients in our Physical Therapy Department) to boosting the morale of our dedicated health care staff. Every action, every dollar raised, is a testament to their deep-rooted belief in the hospital’s vital role in our community’s well-being.

Imagine facing a sudden health crisis. The anxiety, the fear — it can be overwhelming. But thanks to the Auxiliary’s efforts, the hospital is equipped to handle those moments with compassion and expertise. The specialized walker that helps a recovering patient regain their independence, the rehabilitation tools that guide them on their journey back to health — these are just a few examples of how the Auxiliary’s tireless fundraising makes a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals.

Their impact extends beyond equipment, though. The Auxiliary understands the human side of health care. They organize thoughtful initiatives to uplift the spirits of hospital staff, reminding them that they are appreciated and their dedication is invaluable. This caring touch fosters a positive environment that ultimately benefits all of us — patients, staff, and the entire community.

The names behind this remarkable story deserve recognition: Sandi Wright, Suzanne Lublin, Shirley Mayo, Laura Anderson, Amy Anderson, Diane Corrigan, Donna White, Jan Weaver, Goodie Utz, RaNae Barker, Edna Eby and Robin Owens. Their selfless contributions of time, talent and resources are the foundation upon which the Auxiliary

stands strong. Whether it’s baking delicious treats for their iconic Annual Pie Sale, coordinating the bustling December Craft Fair, or compiling the mouthwatering recipes in their Dessert Book, every action speaks volumes about their unwavering commitment to our hospital.

Joining the Auxiliary is an opportunity to join their legacy. Do you have a few hours to spare? Are you passionate about making a difference? Every helping hand, every donation, adds to the collective power that keeps our hospital thriving.

So, let us celebrate these extraordinary community members. Let us savor their sweet treats, participate in their events, and consider lending our own support. By standing alongside the Boundary Community Hospital Auxiliary, we ensure that our hospital continues to shine brightly of hope and healing for generations to come.

Remember, their dedication makes our hospital stronger, better and more compassionate. Let’s honor their efforts and ensure their legacy continues to flourish.

Join the Bonners Ferry Rotary Club for this year’s Free CommUNITY Breakfast and Silent Auction, taking place from 9am to noon on Saturday, April 13. Be sure to purchase your tickets at Mountain Mike’s Health Food Store and show your support to these Distinguished Young Women of Bonners Ferry.
