Kids & Pets
Parenting is often seen as a one-way street where we, as parents, teach our children essential life lessons, values, and skills. However, I’ve come to realize that this perspective overlooks the profound and enriching experience of learning from our kids.
As parents, we impart knowledge on a wide array of subjects, ranging from basic manners to complex moral values. Teaching our children lessons about responsibility, empathy, and resilience gives them the skills they need to handle life’s challenges.
While the importance of teaching our children is well-recognized, the idea of learning from them is equally significant yet often undervalued. Our chil dren, with their fresh perspectives and unfiltered views of the world, can offer profound insights. Their curiosity, creativity, and honesty can serve as powerful reminders for us.
They ask questions that might seem simple yet are profoundly deep. For instance, a question about why the sky is blue could lead to a renewed sense of awe and appreciation for nature’s wonders. Embracing this curiosity inspires me to reignite my own sense of wonder and explore the world with a fresh perspective, taking note of all the beautiful things God has surrounded me with.
I had often heard “Children bring more joy than words can express into a home.” This, I now know to be true. What I did not expect, was that part of that joy would be a result of viewing the world from their prospective, learning to appreciate the simple joys and embrace every moment.
My prayer for us all is that we never lose the desire to learn, especially from those we least expect.

LENA POPE IS A CHAMPION FOR THOSE WHO NEED HELP THE MOST.
Local Non-Profit Continues to Be a Champion of Child Advocacy
ARTICLE BY GABBY CULLEN | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Mrs. Pope
“
“Mrs. Pope just didn’t take no for an answer. She did what was necessary to ensure those kids had what they needed.”
If the name Lena Pope sounds familiar, it’s for good reason. The Fort Worth resident’s legacy has long been tied to helping those most in need. Starting with a tragedy of her own, Mrs. Pope took her pain and turned it into a strength, and to this day, almost a century later, the organization she founded continues to be a lifeline for many residents of Tarrant County through early education centers, counseling, and programs for at-risk kids and teens.
The almost 100-year-old organization began during the Depression, when before succumbing to illness, Mrs. Lena Pope’s son Conrad, told his mother he wanted her to build a mansion and fill it with children. Through her grief, she saw a need to help the community, and in time, Mrs. Pope assisted when her Sunday School class at Broadway Baptist Church identified children who needed a good home. These women didn’t just want to find somewhere for these kids to live; they wanted to find loving homes filled with people who would care for them.
So Mrs. Pope started asking the community of Fort Worth for assistance. Ashley Elgin, Ph.D, the CEO at Lena Pope, elaborates, “Mrs. Pope just didn't take no for an answer. I think she was very patient. And if she knew someone could help her, she would wait until they talked to her. She did what was necessary to ensure those kids had what they needed.”
Maintaining family structure has always been important for the organization. From its inception in 1930 until 1980, Lena Pope was a residential care facility (that even created jobs for
mothers so family units could remain intact), but eventually realized there was a better way to help others. ”Our goal for a very long time has been prevention and early intervention. What can we do before kids don't have a family, or they don't have a home; how can we prevent that from happening?” says Katye LaNier, Director of Marketing and Communication.
In the early 1980s, the Lena Pope organization turned its efforts towards what they call the front end of child welfare: helping families before children enter foster care or head down a path of risky behavior. Today, their programs include early childhood education, counseling and mental health services, and behavior interventions.
“We saw the gap in the prevention space. We want to be the first line, the first resource a family can turn to when things get hard. We can help them gain the skills needed to overcome those challenges and stay together as a family. That's the space where we want to live,” says Director of Development Keegan Hand.
Lena Pope opened its first Early Learning Center in 2012, knowing that childcare was a community need, and today, there are two nationally accredited (NAEYC) Lena Pope centers in Tarrant County that provide yearround, full-time care for children ages six weeks to five years old. “How do families work if they don't have a place to care for their kids? We didn't want to provide just anything. We wanted to provide the highest quality, the best care for the kids we have with us every day,” says LaNier.
As an organization, we believe that every individual has value, and everyone has strengths. “ ”
Kids with access to resources aren’t the only ones who benefit from this concept. Lena Pope offers flexible fees because they believe all kids deserve access to quality early education. According to LaNier, the organization reserves space specifically for families that need financial assistance.
A lot of learning happens through play at the Lena Pope Early Learning Centers. Each center has a certified Nature Explore Classroom with climbing structures, mud kitchens, and sensory materials; things that are fun and help kids learn everything from using their bodies to natural consequences, like gravity when they fall.
CONTINUED >
There’s also an emphasis on emotional learning; students are taught to identify their emotions, calm down, and communicate with others. “They learn to advocate for themselves. They can say, ‘I feel mad about that’ instead of lashing out. Building these foundational skills serves our kids long-term. We're not just focused on their brains. We know that to be successful in the classroom and kindergarten, these kids need to know how to interact with their peers and teachers,” says LaNier.
Apart from the learning centers, Lena Pope has important programs for at-risk children and teens that revolve around emotional, intellectual, and behavioral well-being, and aim to help kids who are engaging in behaviors and acts that, without making changes, could potentially lead them to be involved with the juvenile justice system.
Some programs, like teen skill-building groups, are open to the public; parents who notice potentially risky behaviors in their child can attend with their children. Some are designed for kids who have already engaged with the system. “Kids who have a non-violent first-time offense can go through one of our programs with their caregivers and the offense doesn’t stay on their record. We have other programs for kids in the detention center; we want them to have a good transition back to their homes, and ensure they and their families are ready and have the skills to communicate and solve problems together. A lot of our work is about helping families see the strength they have as a family,” says LaNier.
Lena Pope also offers other important counseling services: such as programs that help children ranging from ages 3-17 and counseling for families, children, people dealing with substance abuse, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. They take insurance and offer flexible fees because their mission is to be a lifeline for anyone struggling at any point in their lives. To do that, their counseling services must remain affordable and accessible to anyone who needs support.
At its core, Lena Pope is about supporting people. The organization’s long history has continuously seen individuals for who they are and has never shied away from reaching out a hand. “As an organization, we believe that every individual has value, and everyone has strengths. We want to equip children, families, and caregivers in our community with a strong foundation through counseling, education, and behavior intervention, so families have a strong foundation from which they can thrive,” says Elgin.
And, as Hand explains, the support goes both ways. “We talk a lot about the role philanthropy plays in helping us bridge that gap in counseling, in our behavior intervention programs, making sure we are a place where families of all backgrounds and economic statuses can come. Ultimately, we work in partnership with other organizations to stay abreast of community needs and provide services to meet those needs. And that is why our history is so important. Because Mrs Pope did just that, right? She saw a need and said, "I can meet that need.”

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN HUMANS AND THE DOGS THEY LOVE.
ARTICLE BY GAIL BAKER NELSON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY MACKA PHOTOGRAPHY
“Every dog knows what to do, but we don’t understand the program.”
For George Matheis, dog training is less about training the dog and more about teaching their humans. As the founder of MCS Dog Training in Fort Worth, Matheis has worked with over 3,500 dogs and people since 2017 in Pennsylvania.
He and his family moved to Fort Worth in 2023, but it took some time, an updated logo and website to begin developing a following here. To support his family, Matheis traveled between here and Pennsylvania for clients every few weeks.
“Most people who call are wives or moms,” he says. “They’re the ones that spend the most time with these dogs and see the problems.”
By the time he gets a call, families are near the breaking point with outof-control dogs—exhibiting everything from reactivity and resource guarding to aggression.
“Families are desperate,” he explains. They want to keep their dog, but don't know what to do.
“Dogs are still 98.6 percent gray wolf. They communicate through eye contact, touch, and movement.”
MCS Dog Training offers services, including in-home consultations, basic training, help with problem dogs, and service dog training.
Yet, he explains, “I never saw myself making this into a business.”
A retired police officer and Army veteran, Matheis suffered with PTSD, alcohol and prescription medication until he hit an all-time low at a family member’s wedding.
He woke up the next morning to discover that his wife left the party early to take him home—and a broken-hearted special needs daughter, Emilie, who didn’t get to dance with her daddy at the wedding.
“I never thought I had a drug or alcohol problem,” he says. “It took breaking her heart to see it.”
The incident inspired him to clean up his act, but he continued to struggle.
Later that year, his daughter Elizabeth gifted him with his dream dog: Odin, an Old English bulldog puppy.
“I’ve wanted one all my life,” Matheis says. “And here it was, right down the street from us.”
And dog training? “I had no idea what I was doing, but I wanted to do it right.”
He reached out to Bob Fink, a dog trainer with the non-profit organization Veteran Service Canine. “He offered training,” Matheis explains. “So, I started training with him 4 days a week.”
He eventually apprenticed as a trainer under Fink and worked directly with the veterans and their dogs. The two later went on to form Cover Six Canines—a nonprofit that trains service dogs for veterans and first responders.
While apprenticing, Matheis noticed that “the veterans who would come in were so riddled with PTSD they could not relax.”
That stress put the dogs in a tough spot, according to Matheis, “they wanted to help but didn’t know what to do.”
He watched the pattern repeat, until one day when the realization hit him. “The Lord just told me that they’re talking to the dogs, but they’re not trying to communicate.”
“Dogs are still 98.6 percent gray wolf,” he explains. “They communicate through eye contact, touch, and movement.”
Realizing that “every dog knows what to do, but we don’t understand the program,” Matheis reasoned that the training focused too much on treats and talking.
“What if we stop talking to the dogs except for praise,” he asked, “until they learn the commands and we stop giving them treats?”
It worked.
His first client came through Veteran Service Canine when a chance meeting led to being paid for training outside the program. One client led to another, and Matheis says, “The rest is history.”

CONGRATULATIONSCLAIREBOYETTE!
Perkins Orthodontics and West Fort Worth Lifestyle Magazine are thrilled to announce this year's Perkins Scholarship recipient is Claire Boyette, who captivated the selection committee with her essay on homelessness. We sat down with the incoming KU freshman to pick her brain about her next steps, motivation, and what it means to win this award.
Q: TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.
Claire: I just graduated from I.M. Terrell Academy in Fort Worth as the salutatorian, which was really exciting! We have a very small class, around 90 students, but I love that about my school. We're a tight-knit community. And now I'm in Kansas for orientation at the University of Kansas where I plan to study social work.
Q: WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE TO PURSUE SOCIAL WORK AT KU?
Claire: KU has a strong School of Social Welfare and offers an undergraduate degree in social work, which is rare. Most universities only offer a master's in social work. So, I'll be able to get to work right away and save money on my education.
THIS YEAR’S PERKINS SCHOLARSHIP WINNER IS READY TO GET TO WORK.
ARTICLE BY HANNAH BARRICKS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY PAIGE ALEXIS PHOTOGRAPHY
Q: HOW DID YOUR HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE INFLUENCE YOUR CAREER CHOICE?
Claire: In my junior year, I took a Capstone Engineering course that focused on homelessness. I did extensive research on the topic, particularly in Fort Worth. This experience sparked my interest in social work and inspired me to help vulnerable communities.
Q: HOW WILL THE PERKINS SCHOLARSHIP HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS?
Claire: Tuition is expensive, so this scholarship will help me avoid debt. The financial support will alleviate stress and help me focus on my education and, eventually, a career in social work.
Q: HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE PERKINS SCHOLARSHIP?
Claire: My mom received an email about the scholarship from our orthodontist's office. I was a patient of Dr. Spradley and later Dr. Perkins so we were on their email list. The application process was straightforward, and I am so thankful to both doctors for the opportunity! With their financial support, I feel so excited for this next chapter.
Q: WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE CAREER PLANS?
Claire: I aim to help underrepresented communities and find solutions for homelessness. I want to travel and explore the world and make a positive impact wherever I go!

INTRODUCING DECO
ARTICLE BY HANNAH BARRICKS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SOUTHERN LAND COMPANY
WILL DOWNTOWN FORT WORTH’S FIRST RESIDENTIAL HIGH-RISE IN DECADES REDEFINE LUXURY LIVING?
The Fort Worth skyline has a dazzling new addition, Deco, a 27-story residential tower near Sundance Square, seemingly poised to set a new standard for urban living. As Southern Land Company’s first high-rise in downtown Fort Worth, Deco is the newest modern luxury residence in a city known for its rich history and deep cultural roots. Tim Downey, the founder and CEO of Southern Land Company, was first inspired by the vibrant neighborhoods, walkability, and distinctive charm of Fort Worth during visits to the city years ago and began envisioning a luxury high-rise in 2005. His vision, now proudly materialized, sits at 969 Commerce Street.
The exterior of Deco, carefully designed by Dallas-based GDA Architects, and interior design, which is the work of Dallas-based Faulkner Design Group—both in partnership with the Southern Land Company in-house design team—noticeably pay homage to Art Deco architecture commonly found in Fort Worth, blending the geometrical elegance of the era with contemporary details.
An Art-Deco-style art installation above the main entrance gives residents, visitors, and passersby a sneak peek of the decor inside. The stainless-steel artwork titled "Elevation," designed by Senior Designer Steven McGann from GDA Architects is a striking piece that feels at home among the many buildings constructed in Fort Worth before the Second World War when Sanguinet & Staats created the first high-rise in the city, the iconic Flat Iron on Houston Street. "Elevation" symbolizes the act of rising and becoming greater, a nod to the sky-rise building, and the elevated living experience Deco aims to offer. This artwork, crafted in collaboration with fabricator Zahner, enhances the building façade and celebrates the varied cultural roots of the city.
The distinct style of the building continues into the lobby and throughout the 302 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses. Each unit boasts spacious, private balconies that offer residents an unobstructed slice of the Cowtown skyline. The interiors showcase durable and trendy Bianco Carrara quartz countertops, polished chrome fixtures, and stainless steel appliances. From vinyl wood flooring in cool cinnamon or warm ivory tones to custom modular closets, every element hopes to enhance comfort and style.
Residents have their pick from a range of pet-friendly floor plans, including 19 apartment designs and six penthouse layouts. The penthouse units feature additional luxuries like free-standing bathtubs, wine refrigerators, wet bars, and double balconies. Additional features include soft-close drawers with rose gold pulls, fully upgraded appliance packages, and Chicago oak wood flooring. Some units even offer configurable walk-in pantries and full-service laundry rooms with sinks, shelving, and cabinetry. The walk-in closets, with islands and custom shelving, provide ample storage space, making them a standout feature.
Each unit, whether a penthouse or an apartment, upholds a strict standard of quality that Public Relations Director Jenna Lefever says comes standard.
So, what could the price tag be for such extravagance? Leasing agents say current rates range from$2,080 for a one-bedroom apartment to $13,969 for a luxurious penthouse; a surprisingly broad range Lefever says will fit various lifestyles and hopefully broaden the accessibility of luxury living in downtown Fort Worth.
During the hot summer months, residents will be thankful for the multi-level amenity deck featuring an outdoor resort-style pool and spa, both heated when temperatures drop. The area on the 24th floor also boasts a poolside bar, lounge, and a 180-inch jumbotron; the Nouveau Sky Lounge, also on the floor, continues the Art Deco motif in its shared executive space. The lounge also contains a demonstration kitchen with a wraparound bar, billiards, and spectacular views. Residents can walk up one floor to an outdoor green space featuring a dual-facing firepit that waits for a cool evening. Additional offerings include a state-of-the-art athletic studio, a dedicated dog grooming spa, a lobby lounge with a social bar, a bicycle repair shop, and an onsite concierge service from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Residents can also enjoy secured parking with electric vehicle charging stations and advanced technology features like access control home entry and a Luxer package center for convenient storage and after-hours parcel collection.
The arrival of Deco has been a significant event for Fort Worth, marking the end of a 30-year hiatus since the last residential tower graced downtown. Lefever believes the impressive 567,000-square-foot building will become more than an incredible living space for its residents and explains how Deco is a testament to the Southern Land Company's commitment to creating something truly unique. Lefever explains that no two buildings in their real estate portfolio are alike, insisting that each one reflects or complements the city or neighborhood in which it resides. Deco is no different, offering a distinctive blend of modern amenities and timeless charm only found in Fort Worth.
The building is a few steps from the desirable dining, shopping, and entertainment district at Sundance Square, giving residents access to vibrant city life while enjoying the peace and luxury of a high-rise sanctuary. The building is also close to General Worth Square, which appeals to anyone interested in walking to a beautiful public space to relax and unwind.
Foodies will be delighted with the ground-level dining space, which will soon host Broadway 10 Bar & Chophouse, commonly abbreviated to B|10; the first in Texas. This modern chophouse, opening in early 2025, will offer a menu of handrolled sushi and hand-cut steaks and seafood grilled over pecan, oak, and hickory woods. B|10 will be a culinary destination that embraces the cattle running history and contemporary tastes of Fort Worth. The onsite, up-scale restaurant has the potential to elevate Deco’s appeal as a culinary destination, serving residents and attracting visitors from across the city. Lefever believes B|10 will become a highlight of Deco, enhancing the reputation of the building and increasing demand for residency.
Beyond its luxurious residences and top-tier amenities, Deco emphasizes community and connectivity. Southern Land designed the building to foster social interactions and a sense of belonging among residents. The lobby lounge, with its social bar, serves as a welcoming space for neighbors to gather, chat, and build friendships. The luxury accommodations in the Nouveau Sky Lounge acknowledge a modern professional’s need for flexible, convenient workspaces. Whether hosting a business meeting in the well-appointed shared executive space or cooking for friends in the demonstration kitchen, Lefever says that Deco accommodates the professional and personal lives of its residents with ease.
Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the state-of-the-art athletic studio, fully stocked with video-enabled treadmills, spin bikes, an interactive Echelon mirror, and top-of-the-line free weights, rendering a costly gym membership moot. For pet owners, the dedicated dog grooming spa ensures that furry friends are well taken care of.
For locals paying attention, the arrival of Deco in Fort Worth signifies more than just the introduction of a new residential option; it represents a milestone in the city's ongoing evolution. Southern Land Company’s continued growth and development in Texas, including projects in Keller, Allen, Plano, Dallas, McKinney, and Houston, underscores its apparent formula for success. Lefever says Deco, as the company’s first venture in Fort Worth, required the utmost attention to detail from a team eager to please the respected tastemakers in the area. Their efforts are clearly seen in the product.
With no expense spared, it seems the bar for downtown living has been set at Deco, where modern luxury meets the enduring practical style of Fort Worth, where Downey, and many before him, made a dream reality.

Her journey in dentistry began on the East Coast where she attended Boston University, honing her skills and developing a deep passion for pediatric dental health. Following her studies, she moved to Houston, where she completed a rigorous residency program at the University of Texas Houston. Now as a resident of the Aledo community, Dr. A. has transformed a local pediatrician's office into Aledo Pediatric Dentistry, a practice that embodies her vision of a calming and nurturing environment.
The beautiful office is intentionally decorated in soothing colors and textures. "Every aspect of my practice has been designed by me and reflects the vision I had of offering a calming yet fun environment for the children and their families," says Dr. A. This vision is evident from the moment you step into Aledo Pediatric Dentistry. The practice is meticulously designed to reduce stress and anxiety for both children and their parents. Soft colors, child-friendly decor, and a welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a positive dental experience.

Dr. A.’s holistic approach extends beyond the aesthetics of the environment. Her personal background in yoga plays a significant role in creating a fun and calming atmosphere. Yoga techniques are subtly integrated into the practice, helping children relax and feel at ease.
Having studied under the renowned Dr. Steven Perlman, who devoted much of his private practice as well as his teaching and advocacy, to the treatment of children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, Dr. A. is able to curate a method of treatment that works for some of her most sensitive patients. “It is so important to offer accessibility and understanding when it comes to treating our friends with special needs, whether those needs are physical or intellectual, everyone deserves to be treated in a soothing environment where they feel safe and respected. We do whatever it takes to provide that level of care for everyone.” This unique approach not only makes dental visits more enjoyable but also fosters a sense of well-being among young patients.
Keeping the well-being of her staff and patients in mind, it was important for Dr. A. to establish a dye-free and top allergen-free office. “We are all exposed to so many chemicals that we can’t control so It is important to be aware of what we are working around on a daily basis. And that includes those elements I bring into the office to care for our young patients. The newest and safest possible products are carefully chosen to optimize patients' oral health.
Understanding the importance of diet in oral health, Dr. A. advocates for reducing processed foods, which she believes are causing a rise in oral health issues and subsequent health complications. By educating parents and children about the impact of diet on dental health, she aims to address the root causes of many dental problems. This emphasis on mindful wellness is a cornerstone of her practice.
“Every aspect of my practice has been designed by me and reflects the vision I had of offering a calming yet fun environment for the children and their families.”
“For too long, dentistry has been thought of as a drill-and-fill service. That is just not the case anymore.”

DR. A.’S 5 SUGGESTIONS FOR A GREAT VISIT
1. Start Early! We recommend children start seeing a dentist every six months at one year of age or with the eruption of the first tooth.
2. Speak positively. Our children take on our own anxiousness very quickly.
3. Find a local pediatric dentist that fits your needs, for really anxious children. It helps to visit the office first for happy visits so the child can familiarize themselves with the space and new faces they will meet at their appointment.
4. Watch videos or shows that your children are familiar with that feature their favorite characters going to the dentist. Also reading books on the first dental visits with your child is a fun way to prepare.
5. Consider your child’s age and the time of day that you are booking the appointment. Most young children do better early in the morning than later in the afternoon, after a long day.

FINANCIAL PLANNING FOR PARENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS
Experts weigh in on where to start.
ARTICLE BY HANNAH BARRICKS
Every parent wants to raise their kids to be financially responsible. Luckily, there’s more than one way to get them there, but with so many new accounts and apps available, it’s challenging even knowing where to start. Darrin Salge, Senior Vice President and Trust Officer at American National Bank and Trust, regularly takes the guesswork out of the process for families and advises that there are benefits to saving early for their future. Below, he outlines several investment options that parents and young adults can consider while planning for their children’s future.
SAVINGS ACCOUNTS & CERTIFICATES OF DEPOSIT (CDS)
“Savings accounts & CDs offer a safe and straightforward way to start building a financial cushion for your child,” says Salge.
Parents can open a savings account or CD at either a traditional or online bank with themselves as the primary or joint account holder.
“CDs can be a good option for those looking to lock in a higher interest rate over a longer period,” notes Salge. “Provided they don’t need immediate access to the funds.” One significant advantage is the FDIC insurance, which covers up to $250,000 per depositor, providing a secure place for savings and CDs.
CUSTODIAL ACCOUNTS
(UTMA & UGMA)
“Custodial accounts provide a flexible way to invest in a variety of assets for your child’s future, but it’s important to consider the tax implications and the fact that the funds will eventually be under the child’s control,” Salge advises.
UTMA (Uniform Transfers to Minors Act) and UGMA (Uniform Gifts to Minors Act) accounts are custodial brokerage accounts that allow adults to manage investments on behalf of a child. Control is transferred to the child between ages 18 and 25, depending on the state laws.
TRADITIONAL BROKERAGE ACCOUNT
“If you’d like more control than custodial accounts allow, you can open a traditional brokerage account in the parent’s name and earmark the money for your child,” says Salge. This account gives parents access to the money while their child is still a minor, keeping control of it after the child reaches adulthood. “When you feel your adult child is ready, you can transfer the funds to an account in
your child’s name,” he continues. “Or you could make your child the beneficiary of the account if you die or become incapacitated.”
Greater adult control comes with higher taxes, though, and you will be taxed on any earnings at your tax rate, not your child’s, so keep gift tax rules in mind when you decide to turn over the account funds. It may not make sense to transfer all of the account’s assets at once.
529 PLAN ACCOUNTS
A 529 plan is a tax-advantaged savings plan designed for future education costs.
“529 plans are highly beneficial for educational savings, offering tax advantages and flexibility for future use,” explains Salge.
Contributions are not federally tax-deductible, but many states offer tax breaks. The funds grow tax-deferred, and withdrawals for qualified education expenses are tax-free. Anything left in a 529 account can roll over to another qualifying family member (such as another child). The 529 beneficiary can withdraw up to $10,000 from the account to pay down student loans.
ROTH IRA FOR KIDS
Custodial Roth IRAs are excellent for children with earned income. Parents can match contributions to the account to boost savings.
“A custodial Roth IRA can provide significant tax-free growth over time for retirement and be used for various major expenses without penalties, making it a versatile long-term savings tool,” Salge says. Children hypothetically have a very long time to benefit from compound tax-free interest on funds put into a Roth IRA, including funds that may have compounded for years. Account holders can withdraw their contributions to a Roth IRA (but not the earnings) whenever without penalty.
