Trust and confidence. You have your business idea and you’ve done your research. You’ve thought it all through and you have a basic financial plan for the business. You’ve set up your virtual office (business address) and you’ve got a website domain and business email. Now it’s time to choose your business entity’s structure.
The business structure of your new venture has little impact on the operation, but makes a big difference in control, ownership, liability, taxes, and how your business is perceived by everyone with whom you do business. Do your research. The four most common classifications are Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, LLC (Limited Liability Company), and corporation. There are also additional legal partnership structures such as LLP, and LLLP). You can find books and countless online resources to help you choose which is right for your business. Talking to a business attorney or accountant for guidance can also help.
The business name suffixes of LLC, LLP, Inc., Corp, and Corporation (among others) convey that a business is more established, properly structured, and probably more reliable. In short it provides a level of “status” that helps convey trust. Importantly, that structure also provides you, as a business owner or a consumer, with a legal path to resolve issues.
Most are not aware that a business is not legally permitted to use the suffixes LLC, LLP, Inc., Corp, or Corporation if they have not registered the business with the secretary of state. Nice to know: As a consumer, you can quickly and easily look up any business using one of those suffixes on the secretary of state’s website (https://ecorp.sos.ga.gov/ businesssearch). Equally importantly, you can see if the business is in compliance with state filing requirements. There are surely tens of thousands of businesses in Georgia using one of those formal suffixes who either never legally registered, or who have a status of non-compliance, meaning they are not maintaining their state filing. Many of those non-compliant businesses are eventually dissolved by the Georgia Secretary of State, but they are still out there doing business, as if nothing is wrong. Don’t do business with an LLC, Inc, Corp if that business isn’t actually registered with the state, or if it has been dissolved, or terminated, or if they have a filing status of “non-compliance”. Businesses that misrepresent their corporate status by falsely adding a suffix like LLC, Inc, Corp, etc. should be avoided. Similarly, if they can’t manage to file their annual registration with the state and are non-compliant, it’s probably risky to give them your money.
At TRUE Space we offer corporate formation services for LLC’s and Corporation (Inc., Corp). Additionally, we offer compliance filings, and make updates to filings. We see a lot more LLC’s than any other structure. We’re here for you when you’re ready to form your entity. To learn more, click the Corp Filings tab on the TRUE Space virtual office website.

Dear Readers,
Home is so much more than where we lay our heads at night. It’s where we gather, create, dream, and unwind. It’s a reflection of our lives— sometimes neat and tidy, sometimes a beautiful mess, but always ours.
In this issue, we celebrate the many ways a house becomes a home. Whether it’s adding character with wallpaper, finding the perfect statement piece at a beloved local shop, or keeping things organized so life feels a little less chaotic, creating a home is a deeply personal -- and ever-evolving -- journey. We’ll also take a look at the Smyrna Vinings real estate outlook for 2025, chat with experts on the latest flooring trends, and highlight the importance of maintaining and caring for the place you call home.
And because home isn’t just about the four walls around us, we’re also embracing the sense of community that makes this area special. Whether it’s coming together to celebrate a local author’s book launch, discovering new small businesses, or simply connecting with neighbors, we are reminded that home extends far beyond our front doors. It’s the people we meet, the conversations we share, and the small moments of connection that make a place feel truly like home.
As always, we hope this issue brings inspiration, fresh ideas, and a renewed appreciation for the spaces—and the people—that make home the best place to be. Whether you're embarking on a home project, settling into a new space, or simply enjoying the comforts of the familiar, may this season bring warmth, joy, and a fresh perspective.
Thank you for welcoming us into your lives each month—we’re honored to be a small part of what makes your home special.
Wishing you a season of warmth and new possibilities.
Warmly,

Have you ever wondered how to incorporate antiques and traditional furniture into a modern home? Mixing old-world charm with contemporary aesthetics can feel like a daunting task, but when done right, it creates a home that feels warm, layered, and truly unique. According to industry expert Anita Vreeland, the key is balance and intention.
Carrying on her father’s company, Englishman’s Fine Furnishings, Anita Vreeland—along with her brother-in-law Kevin Bates and a trusted longtime team—has spent her career helping homeowners and designers seamlessly blend timeless elegance with modern sensibilities. With a background in interior design and a deep understanding of European craftsmanship, she brings an expert eye to every space she touches.
Anita’s journey in the world of fine furnishings began long before she joined the family business. Growing up in England in her father’s antiques shop, she enjoyed examining every piece he brought home and riding in the box truck with him to acquire more treasures. In 1981, her father, Michael Howarth,
decided the family would emigrate from England to Atlanta, bringing with him a passion for antique furniture and a commitment to quality. Initially part of a furniture import business, he quickly gained a reputation as “The Englishman” in the local industry. When the economy shifted in 1991, he forged his own path, founding Englishman’s Fine Furnishings in Smyrna the following year. The store has since become a trusted destination for those seeking timeless craftsmanship and authentic European design.
For those looking to introduce antiques into a contemporary space, Anita offers practical advice: “Your home is an artistic expression of who you are. Mixing in vintage and traditional pieces can add warmth, depth, and personality.” A carefully chosen antique table can anchor a modern dining room, while a collection of blue-and-white plates can add a classic touch to an otherwise minimalist wall. She emphasizes that antiques need not be intimidating; rather, they should be seen as an opportunity to infuse a home with character and history.
“YOUR
Englishman’s Fine Furnishings makes this blending of styles accessible, whether customers are searching for a statement piece or a full-home transformation. The store sources antiques and vintage items directly from dealers and pickers in England, ensuring authenticity and quality. Additionally, their custom furniture service allows clients to design pieces that fit their exact specifications. “A huge part of our business is custom furniture,” Anita explains. “If someone has a specific piece in mind but can’t find it in the size or finish they want, we make it happen.” The customization process is highly collaborative, ensuring that each piece reflects the client’s vision while maintaining the timeless quality that Englishman’s is known for.
Beyond its extensive collection, Englishman’s prides itself on its welcoming atmosphere. Unlike traditional retail environments, there’s no pressure or commission-based selling. Customers are encouraged to take their time, explore, and ask questions. The team—all of whom have been with Englishman’s for decades—is passionate about helping homeowners find pieces that will become cherished parts of their lives. In addition to working with individual homeowners, Englishman’s also partners with interior designers seeking unique, high-quality furnishings for their clients.
Located in the heart of Smyrna Vinings, Englishman’s Fine Furnishings is perfectly situated in a community that values both
tradition and innovation. “The homes here are as eclectic as the people,” Anita says. “We fit right in.” The store attracts customers from across Georgia and beyond, with many traveling from neighboring states to experience its curated selection firsthand. Whether it’s a couple moving into their first home or a seasoned collector searching for the perfect statement piece, Englishman’s offers something for everyone.
Among the most sought-after pieces are Englishman’s dining tables. “Dining tables are our most popular item,” Anita shares. “The classic farmhouse tapered leg table and our round extended tables are customer favorites.” These timeless pieces are designed not just for beauty but for function—serving as the heart of the home
where families gather and create lasting memories. She points out that these tables are built to last for generations, making them not just a purchase but an investment in the future.
In addition to furniture, Englishman’s also carries a variety of decorative accents, from artwork to candlesticks to classic blue-and-white ceramics. These smaller details allow customers to introduce European charm into their homes without committing to larger pieces. “Sometimes, just a single decorative item can shift the entire feel of a space,” Anita notes.
For those new to the world of antiques, Anita encourages an open mind and a sense of adventure. “Don’t be afraid to mix styles,” she advises. “Start with one
or two key pieces, and build around them. A home should evolve over time—it’s about creating a space that reflects your story.” She suggests that homeowners begin by selecting an antique piece they truly love, rather than worrying about whether it will “match” their existing décor. Often, these pieces become the heart of a room, naturally influencing other design choices in a harmonious way.
Stepping into Englishman’s Fine Furnishings isn’t just about shopping; it’s about inspiration, education, and a deep appreciation for the artistry of fine furniture. Whether you’re drawn to the romance of antiques, the craftsmanship of custom-made pieces, or simply the warmth of a well-designed home, the Englishman’s team is ready to guide you every step of the way. With their expertise and commitment to quality, they make it easy to bring the elegance of European design into any space, creating homes that are as welcoming as they are beautiful.

Navigating the Smyrna-Vinings real estate market with confidence, ease, and a little insider know-how.
If you’re thinking about buying or selling a home in Smyrna-Vinings this year, you’re in for an exciting ride! The market is buzzing with activity, and while there are challenges, there are also plenty of opportunities. To help you navigate the ever-changing landscape, we spoke with local real estate experts Leanne Allen, a trusted Smyrna-Vinings Realtor, and Sheila Parast Gross, an experienced real estate attorney, to get their insights on what to expect in 2025 and how to make the most of it. Smyrna-Vinings continues to be one of the most desirable areas near Atlanta, thanks to its strong sense of community, convenient location, and ongoing infrastructure improvements. With rising home prices, quick sales, and limited inventory, buyers need to be well-prepared and decisive. According to Leanne Allen, the demand for homes remains strong, and buyers should be ready to act quickly. Understanding market trends and being flexible in their home search will be crucial to success.
For buyers, patience and preparation are key. With potential fluctuations in interest rates and stiff competition, it’s essential to stay informed and open to different property types. A well-thought-out approach, including financial readiness and a clear vision of priorities, will help prospective homeowners find their ideal property.

Sellers have a strong advantage in this competitive market, but strategic preparation remains essential. A well-priced home in excellent condition will attract interest quickly. Making small but impactful updates—such as fresh paint, modern fixtures, and professional staging—can significantly enhance a home’s appeal. Highlighting the property’s proximity to parks, schools, and local attractions will further draw in potential buyers looking for a vibrant community atmosphere.
Beyond physical upgrades, pricing strategy is key. Overpricing can slow down the selling process, while a competitive price can generate multiple offers and a quicker sale. Working with an experienced real estate professional like Leanne can help sellers navigate these nuances and position their homes effectively in the marketplace.
As digital transactions become more common, title fraud is an increasing concern in real estate. Sheila warns that many buyers consider waiving owner’s title insurance as a way to cut costs, but doing
so can lead to significant financial risks. While a thorough title search can uncover many potential issues, it may not catch hidden problems like forged deeds or undisclosed liens.
“Title insurance provides financial protection and peace of mind, ensuring that buyers are safeguarded against unexpected title disputes,” says Sheila. “With fraud schemes becoming more sophisticated, having this extra layer of security can prevent costly legal battles down the road. When it comes to real estate investments, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.”
Looking ahead, Smyrna and Vinings are expected to maintain strong demand, particularly in areas with top-rated schools, parks, and community amenities. The growing popularity of townhomes and condos, especially in Vinings, is catering to both young professionals and empty nesters looking for low-maintenance living options.
With continued growth and development, the future looks bright for this charming community. Whether buying, selling, or simply keeping an eye on the market, staying informed and working with trusted professionals like Leanne and Sheila will be the key to navigating real estate in 2025 and beyond.
At the end of the day, finding the perfect home is about more than just a transaction—it’s about creating a space to build memories and enjoy all that Smyrna Vinings has to offer. And with the right knowledge and support, that journey can be both exciting and rewarding.

In today’s fast-paced world, finding balance amidst the chaos of everyday life can feel like an impossible task. Decluttering your home is a powerful first step toward creating a serene and functional space that supports your lifestyle. With a little intention and a proven method, you can turn overwhelming clutter into a manageable and transformative project.
A practical and effective way to tackle any space is by using the 4-Bin Method . This system breaks down decluttering into clear decisions, making the process less overwhelming. Here’s how you can apply it:
1. Keep: Identify items you love, use regularly, or have a designated space for. These are the essentials that align with your current needs and lifestyle.
2. Donate: Set aside items in good condition that you no longer use but could benefit someone else. This step not only clears your space but also helps others.
3. Relocate: Gather belongings that are out of place and return them to their proper home. This ensures that every item ends up where it belongs.
4. Toss: Dispose of anything that is broken, expired, or beyond repair. Be mindful to recycle or discard items responsibly.
PRINCIPLES OF PURPOSEFUL DECLUTTERING
Decluttering isn’t just about getting rid of things; it’s about creating a space that feels intentional and functional. Keep these key principles in mind as you organize:
• Every Item Needs a Home: A clutter-free space starts with assigning a designated spot for every item. When everything has a home, it’s easier to maintain order over time.
• Zone Organization: Group similar items together to streamline daily activities. For example, in your kitchen, create zones for utensils, spices, and cookware to make meal prep more efficient.
• Mindful Decisions: Decluttering can be emotional, especially when dealing with sentimental items. Take your time to reflect on what truly adds value to your life and let go of the rest.
CONTINUED >
• Start Small: Begin with a small area, like a single drawer or shelf. Completing a small task can build momentum for larger projects.
• Set Goals: Define what you want to achieve for each space. Are you looking for better functionality, more visual clarity, or easier access to essentials?
• Use the Right Tools: Invest in storage solutions that work for your space and style, like bins, baskets, or drawer organizers.
• Stay Consistent: Make decluttering a regular habit by dedicating time each month to reassess and organize your belongings.
Once you’ve decluttered, keeping your space tidy becomes easier with consistent habits. Always return items to their designated spots and periodically review your belongings to ensure they still serve a purpose. Remember, organization is an ongoing process that evolves with your needs.
Decluttering your home is more than just tidying up; it’s about reclaiming your peace of mind and creating a space that reflects your best self. By using the 4-Bin Method and following these principles, you can transform your home into a sanctuary of order and balance.

Wallpaper is back—and it’s bolder, brighter, and more versatile than ever. After years of neutral paint dominating home interiors, homeowners are embracing pattern, texture, and color with open arms. If you’ve been on the fence about wallpaper, it might be time to reconsider.
Amanda Nogales of Three Brushes, a local painting and wallpaper installation company, has seen firsthand how wallpaper is transforming homes. “With just a half bath or an accent wall, you can drastically change the entire feel of a space,” she says. So what’s fueling this wallpaper resurgence? According to Amanda, it’s a combination of DIY-friendly products, social media inspiration, and a growing desire for customization.
Forget the outdated, hard-to-remove wallpaper of decades past. Today’s options include peel-and-stick varieties for the commitment-phobic, hand-painted murals for the artistically inclined, and traditional
wallpapers that offer rich texture and depth. Homeowners are gravitating toward bold choices—vintage floral patterns, geometric designs, faux finishes, and large-scale murals. Maximalism is having a moment, with deep colors and daring prints replacing the all-white, minimalist look of recent years.
One of the most exciting developments is the ability to create custom wallpaper. “Just like I can match a paint color to a favorite pillow or artwork, homeowners can now design their own wallpaper,” Amanda explains. This allows for truly one-of-a-kind spaces that reflect personal tastes and stories.
Beyond aesthetics, wallpaper also offers a practical solution for imperfect walls. Instead of investing in extensive repairs to prepare walls for painting, some homeowners opt for wallpaper to mask minor imperfections.
For those intrigued by wallpaper but hesitant to go all in, Amanda suggests easing into the trend. “Pick a small space—maybe a half bath or a single wall in an office,” she advises. “The last thing we want is a loud pattern in a commonly used space if the homeowner isn’t in love with it.”
Choosing a simpler pattern or starting with peel-andstick wallpaper can help test the waters. And if commitment is still a concern, remember that wallpaper removal has come a long way. Unlike the stubborn papers of the past, modern wallpapers are designed to be more forgiving when it’s time for a change.
If you’re ready to dive in, keep these expert-approved tips in mind for a flawless finish:
• Order Samples: Online images can be deceiving. Always order samples before committing to a design.
• Buy Extra Rolls: Slight variations in print batches mean it’s best to have more than you need rather than risk running out.
• Prep Your Walls: The quality of your wallpaper installation depends on the surface underneath. Imperfect walls require proper prepping to avoid a bumpy finish.
• Consider the Room’s Conditions: High-moisture areas, like bathrooms and kitchens, need wallpapers with a vinyl finish to resist humidity and grease.
• Don’t Skimp on Installation: Wallpaper application requires precision. A poor install may not reveal its flaws immediately, but over time, bubbles, peeling edges, and misaligned patterns will surface.
“WALLPAPER ISN’T JUST décor —IT’S personality ON YOUR WALLS. BOLD PATTERNS, RICH TEXTURES, AND custom designs ARE TRANSFORMING homes EVERYWHERE.”
As a seasoned expert in both wallpaper and painting, Amanda sees an opportunity to combine the two for maximum impact. “Wallpaper used as an accent with the right paint color surrounding it creates a bold yet cohesive look,” she explains. Thoughtful placement—like wallpapering a ceiling, using it as wainscoting, or incorporating it into built-in shelving—can elevate a room without overwhelming it.
For those who adore a dramatic wallpaper pattern but fear it may be too much, Amanda suggests using it as a backdrop rather than an accent. “Think built-ins or those little nooks in your home that you just don’t know what they’re for—wallpaper!”
Wallpaper can also be used in unconventional ways to add architectural interest. Covering just the top or bottom half of a wall, mimicking chair rail or wainscoting, or extending wallpaper from the ceiling down onto the walls can create a dynamic and customized effect. These approaches allow homeowners to experiment without covering an entire room, keeping things fresh and balanced.
With the rise of social media showcasing stunning, personality-packed interiors, homeowners are more eager than ever to create spaces that feel unique and personal. Bespoke wallpaper designs—whether hand-painted, custom-printed, or layered for texture—allow for an artistic and individualized touch. “Cookie-cutter is out,” Amanda says. “Homeowners don’t want to feel like they’re living in a model home anymore.”
If you’ve been playing it safe with neutrals but longing for something more exciting, consider dipping your toes into the wallpaper trend. Start small, take your time choosing a pattern, and trust the process. You just might fall in love with a little—or a lot—of wallpaper.

Step onto something spectacular with 2025’s top flooring choices.
ARTICLE BY STACEY SCOTT | PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHRIS LAWERY
As we step into 2025, homeowners are looking for more than just beautiful flooring—they want durability, sustainability, and a style that reflects their personality. Flooring plays a foundational role in home design, setting the tone for every room. The experts at After Five Floors, a trusted source in the flooring industry, have shared their insights on the latest trends shaping homes this year.
One of the biggest shifts in flooring trends is the emphasis on sustainability. Homeowners are becoming more environmentally conscious, seeking materials that minimize their carbon footprint while still delivering on style and performance. Natural flooring options such as marmoleum , bamboo, hardwood, and cork are in high demand. These materials not only offer long-lasting durability but are also free of harmful chemicals, making them a safer choice for families and pets.
Marmoleum, a lesser-known but rising star in the flooring world, is made from natural ingredients like linseed oil, wood flour, and jute. It’s a fantastic alternative to vinyl, offering antimicrobial properties and a sleek, modern look. Cork flooring, known for its softness and resilience, is another sustainable option making a comeback, providing a natural cushion underfoot while reducing noise in busy households.
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) continues to dominate the market, but advancements in technology are making it more lifelike than ever. Homeowners appreciate the realistic wood and stone textures that mimic the natural grain and variations found in hardwood and tile. LVP remains a go-to choice for busy households because of its water-resistant properties, making it ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and basements.
In addition to its practicality, LVP now comes in a variety of finishes that rival high-end materials. From hand-scraped wood effects to ultra-matte finishes, homeowners can achieve the timeless look of hardwood with added durability and affordability.
While classic wood and neutral palettes will always have a place in home design, 2025 is seeing a resurgence of bold patterns and expressive flooring choices. One of the biggest trends? Chevron and herringbone patterns. These designs, which date back to 16th-century Europe, are being used in everything from grand entryways to cozy living rooms, adding a sense of depth and dimension.

Another emerging favorite is the use of large-format tiles—think oversized porcelain slabs that mimic marble or concrete. These tiles create a seamless, high-end look while reducing grout lines, making maintenance easier than ever.
For color lovers, warm wood tones are taking over. Honey oak and walnut are making a major comeback, with strong, warm browns setting the stage for a cozy, inviting ambiance. Paired with plush furnishings and muted wall tones, these classic wood hues create an elegant, lived-in feel that stands the test of time.
Technology is playing a huge role in shaping the flooring industry, bringing forth materials that are more durable and stylish than ever before. One of the most exciting advancements is the rise of waterproof wood flooring. While traditional hardwood has always been susceptible to moisture, new treatments and engineered designs are making it possible for wood to be installed in moisture-prone areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
Another game-changer? Hybrid flooring, which blends the best qualities of LVP and laminate. It provides the look and feel of real wood but with enhanced water resistance and scratch-proof technology— perfect for homes with kids and pets.
Choosing the right flooring for each room in your home requires a careful

balance between aesthetics and practicality. High-traffic areas, such as entryways and hallways, demand durable materials like tile, LVP, or engineered hardwood, which can withstand heavy foot traffic without sacrificing style.
For living rooms and bedrooms, many homeowners are opting for engineered wood or plush carpet, prioritizing warmth and comfort.
If you love the look of hardwood but want something softer underfoot, area rugs over wood or vinyl flooring can achieve the perfect balance of style and coziness.
Kitchens and bathrooms continue to favor water-resistant materials, with porcelain tile and luxury vinyl leading the charge. These options not only provide superior durability but also offer an array of design choices, from marble-look tiles to rustic wood textures.
With so many trends emerging in 2025, it’s important to consider your lifestyle, budget, and personal style when choosing flooring. Whether you’re drawn to the elegance of herringbone hardwood, the practicality of luxury vinyl, or the eco-conscious appeal of cork, there’s a flooring solution that fits every home.
The industry experts at After Five Floors understand the ever-changing world of flooring and are dedicated to helping homeowners make informed decisions. HOW REGULAR MAINTENANCE KEEPS YOUR HOME BEAUTIFUL, PROTECTED, AND IN TOP CONDITION.
ARTICLE BY STACEY SCOTT | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Your home’s curb appeal is more than just a first impression—it reflects the care, character, and value of your property. Whether you’re looking to sell, maintain your investment, or simply take pride in a well-kept home, regular maintenance is essential for keeping your home’s exterior in top shape. While many homeowners focus on landscaping or a fresh coat of paint, often-overlooked services like window cleaning, pressure washing, and gutter cleaning are just as crucial.
According to Carlos Culbreath of We Clean Windows, these services not only enhance your home’s aesthetics but also play a significant role in its longevity.
Clean windows don’t just make a home sparkle—they also help protect your investment. Many homeowners don’t realize that regular window cleaning is actually a requirement for some window warranty agreements. Over time, dirt, grime, and hard water deposits can damage glass, frames, and seals, leading to costly
“Regular maintenance isn’t just about looks— it protects your home, prevents costly damage, and extends its lifespan.”
repairs or replacements. By scheduling routine cleanings, you can prevent this buildup and extend the life of your windows.
Pressure washing is another key maintenance task that helps preserve your home’s exterior. Dirt, mold, and mildew can accumulate on siding, driveways, and decks, causing deterioration if left unchecked.
“Pressure washing is the only way to ensure the longevity of your siding, concrete, and wood surfaces,” Carlos explains. Regular cleaning keeps these materials looking fresh while preventing costly damage that can occur over time.
Neglecting your gutters can lead to major problems. Gutters play a crucial role in directing water away from your home, preventing leaks, mold, and foundation damage.
“Gutter cleaning is the best peace of mind a homeowner can buy! The last thing you ever want to deal with is water intrusion,” Carlos emphasizes.
Clogged gutters can cause water to back up into your roof and walls, leading to expensive and preventable repairs.
Carlos recalls a client in Fairburn, Georgia, who learned firsthand the importance of routine maintenance. After losing her husband, she neglected exterior upkeep, assuming it wasn’t an urgent need. When water stains appeared on her bedroom ceiling, she called
a contractor—only to discover that clogged gutters were the culprit.
After a full-service cleaning package, she now schedules routine maintenance to prevent future issues.
“She’s booked every 15 to 18 months for repeat services, and her gutters are now cleaned twice a year,” Carlos shares.
To maintain your home’s curb appeal and structural integrity, Carlos recommends the following schedule:
• Gutters and windows: At least once a year
• Pressure washing (siding, driveways, decks): Every 18 months
• Dryer vents and deep interior cleaning: Every three years
By staying proactive with professional maintenance, homeowners can protect their investment, enhance their curb appeal, and enjoy a cleaner, safer home year-round. After all, a well-maintained home isn’t just about appearances—it’s about longevity, comfort, and peace of mind.

NEAT ORGANIZATION SOLUTIONS BEYOND THE BEDROOM CLOSET.
ARTICLE BY SUE G. COLLINS
Organizing is necessary and unavoidable and for some, impossible.
I spend hours tidying and reorganizing my bedroom closet each spring and the laundry room gets a makeover once a year before the kids come home from college (and again when they leave). I long for shelving in the garage dedicated to my outdoor gear, for cubbies in my office to hide my knitting and crafts, and a guest room that isn’t all bed and pillows.
Turning to the experts in custom organization and innovative designs for the home, Closets By Design, I found the options enticing and the one-on-one design services essential. The company, family owned and operated, provides help every step of the way with solutions for every room of the house, not just closets.
“At Closets by Design, we understand that every home is unique, which is why our design process is tailored specifically to your individual needs and preferences. From the moment you schedule your no-obligation consultation, our dedicated team is here to guide you every step of the way,” says owner and operator, Stephanie Parmer.
Set an appointment online or by phone and a professional designer will come directly to your home bringing the showroom experience to your doorstep. “Together, you’ll collaborate to create a personalized design that maximizes your space and fits your budget. Once the perfect layout is established, your designer will coordinate the installation date, ensuring a seamless transition from vision to reality,” Stephanie explains.
On installation day, a highly trained installer will arrive with all the necessary materials to complete your project—typically in just one day. Dreamy!
Since its inception in 1982, Closets By Design has carved a niche as a trailblazer in home organization, and today one of their latest focuses has been on transforming garages into efficient spaces that reflect the needs and lifestyle of the homeowner. Think sleek cabinetry, versatile shelving systems, tools neatly organized on wall-mounted racks, sports gear tucked away in custom cabinets, and dedicated spaces for hobby supplies. The company offers garage flooring options too, durable and easy to maintain, giving your space a polished look.
Indoors, a standout trend is in home office design with the rise of custom furniture. These versatile pieces can be configured to fit any space, allowing you to create a customized workstation that adapts to your needs. Think vertical storage options like shelves and pegboards that utilize wall space effectively, as well as drawers that help you find what you need quickly along
with storage cubes and baskets for keeping supplies neatly tucked away while adding a decorative touch.
When we think of home design, laundry rooms often take a backseat. Yet, this hardworking area deserves just as much attention with custom cabinets in on-trend colors or finishes with ample workspace for sorting, folding, and ironing clothes. Countertops— made from durable materials like quartz or granite— that are both functional and appealing are paired with stylish backsplashes for a cohesive look that transforms your laundry area into a mini oasis of organization. Include pull-out hampers, dedicated areas for sorting clothes by color or fabric type, and a foldable ironing board that tucks away neatly when not in use,
My guest room is also my office and I am pining for a Murphy bed from Closets By Design. Their wallbeds are designed to fold up against the wall when not in use, with a user-friendly mechanism, engineered to be lightweight yet sturdy; while they support a standard mattress.
“We’re passionate about transforming overlooked spaces into beautiful, functional areas that you’ll enjoy using,” says Stephanie. “We offer a wide spectrum of finishing options, whether you prefer the warm, natural look of wood or the sleek, contemporary feel of laminate finishes. Each material is crafted for durability while providing an elegant aesthetic that can elevate any room.”
Her team understands every home has unique needs and styles, and they are passionate about providing tailored solutions that enhance both functionality and aesthetics, transforming your spaces into beautifully organized havens.

CUSTOM-BUILT HOMES DESIGNED WITH PURPOSE, WHERE STUNNING STYLE MEETS EVERYDAY PRACTICALITY AND COMFORT.
For Michael Yofee, owner of Dogwood Family Homes, homebuilding isn’t just about construction—it’s about creating spaces where memories are made. What started as an investment project quickly turned into a passion for crafting custom homes that reflect the heart and dreams of the people who live in them.
“I fell in love with the process of turning a house into a home,” Michael shares. “Every project I take on, I approach as if it were my own home. Seeing homeowners over-the-moon happy with the final result is what drives me.”
That personal approach is what sets Dogwood Family Homes apart. Instead of a one-size-fits-all mentality, Michael and his team take the time to understand each family’s vision, ensuring that their home is both beautiful and deeply personal.
Custom home trends are always evolving, and Michael has noticed a shift toward warmer, more inviting interiors. “We’re seeing more color coming back into homes, along with natural stone,” he explains. “Both elements bring warmth and character, making a house truly feel like home.”
However, beauty alone isn’t enough -- homes need to be functional, too. That’s where Michael’s collaboration with designers becomes essential. “One of my most important jobs is to make sure that the design not only looks good but also works well in everyday life. A home should be as practical as it is stylish.”
One project in particular stands out as a true reflection of Dogwood Family Homes’ mission. Michael recalls a basement remodel that was designed to bring an entire extended family together. CONTINUED >
“We transformed the space so that family members of all ages could move around easily and gather in one place,” he says. “By the end of the project, we felt like family ourselves. That’s the most rewarding part—getting to work with kind people and helping them create a home they love.”
For Michael Yofee, homebuilding is more than a profession; it’s a way to bring people together, one dream home at a time. With a commitment to quality, thoughtful design, and a genuine passion for his craft, Dogwood Family Homes continues to build not just houses, but lifelong connections.

I often joke that if my preaching gig doesn’t work out I’ll become a girls basketball coach. I love coaching my daughter’s 5th grade girls team! Moments like the one that happened at a recent practice explain why. I opened the time teaching my team the fundamentals of a good pass. We improved in our previous game in playing as a team, but a few too many of our passes were stolen. A big part of the drill taught the girls not to telegraph their passes so that they could successfully work the ball around and find an open shot.
Then, the fun began. The time for our team devotion came and I felt led to go off-script. I talked to the girls about the courage of a woman in the Bible named Esther. Though she was a Jew, she remarkably became the queen of a powerful, foreign king. When the Jewish people were threatened, God used Esther’s bravery, in her Godgiven position, as an instrument in His hand to protect all of God’s people. I then showed my team the way that Esther is connected to the life and ministry of Jesus. Esther was brave enough to risk her life for God’s people, and God used her courage to save them.
“Even while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
- Romans 5:8
Similarly, in a showing of great bravery, Jesus took things even further. Esther was saved, but Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice by giving up his life on a cross. That is when one of my brilliant players raised her hand: “Coach, it is amazing that God telegraphed, through Esther, how we would be saved through Jesus.” Isn’t this insight profound? An old hymn that we sometimes sing proclaims: “I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus.” The more I study the Old Testament, and then read of the life and ministry of Jesus, I am amazed at how God telegraphs the greatest demonstration of his love. If you would like to join us at First Baptist, I welcome the chance to stand amazed, side by side, at the telegraphed, amazing love of our Savior.

Toast to Smyrna’s storyteller at this lively book launch!
ARTICLE BY STACEY SCOTT PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALANA WICKHAM
There’s always something brewing in Smyrna, but on Saturday, March 8, the buzz is all about Colleen Oakley. This bestselling author, Smyrna resident of 14 years, and mom to four busy kids is throwing a party to celebrate the launch of her latest novel, Jane and Dan at the End of the World .
From 5–7 p.m., JE Dunn Construction (2555 Cumberland Pkwy SE) will transform into the place to be. Think free cocktails, tasty bites, and a crowd of book lovers ready to toast Colleen’s wild and witty new tale. Hosted by FoxTale Book Shoppe, the event promises to be as charming and unpredictable as Colleen’s stories.
And speaking of stories, Jane and Dan at the End of the World is one for the books—literally. It follows a couple whose date night takes a hilariously chaotic turn when they’re taken hostage by eco-activists reenacting one of Jane’s failed novels. Equal parts laugh-out-loud funny and heartwarming, it’s the kind of story that’ll keep you turning pages well past bedtime.
So, mark your calendars, Smyrna! Come for the fun, stay for the story, and leave with a signed copy (and maybe a new favorite book). This is a celebration you don’t want to miss!
