Summer knows how to make an entrance. Pools open, patio furniture covers are cast aside, grills are ignited, lemonade is poured, golf clubs are a staple in the trunk, and the possibilities are endless. By the time we hit July, summer has been in full swing for a month ... and the need to explore or shake things up becomes apparent.
This issue, we want to help make the middle of summer remarkable. If you’re planning a bbq or picnic soon, maybe try our featured chicken salad recipe from Castle Prime Meats. Of course, nothing beats an ice-cold glass of lemonade, and thanks to Magnolia Springs, we have a new spin on the classic beverage for you to try.
If weekends mean hitting the green—and you haven’t explored O’Bannon Creek Golf Club—you have to make time to tour this private club. This breathtaking course is tucked away right off of 48 and … well, just look at our cover! It really says it all.
Perhaps you’re thinking about exploring options for a backyard that stuns? Read Everyday Escape and take notes. You’ll definitely be inspired.
So, get ready to shake up the summer—because before you know it, we’ll be trading sandals and sunscreen for scarves and suede.

You might be satisfied with your patch of grass, but are you open to exploring ways to maximize your yard’s full potential? Think (dream!) about how much more that space could be—now, are you ready for some tempting ideas?
If so, Donnie Powell of Finer Lawn & Landscaping is in the business of delivering stunning outdoor transformations that set the stage for making family memories. Over the last 23 years, services have grown to include everything from in-ground pools, fireplaces and firepits to outdoor kitchens, seating areas, landscaping, and even concrete services like sidewalks and patios.
For homeowner Amy J., her overall desire for a more appealing outdoor space for family fun proved the perfect blank canvas for Finer Lawn’s creativity. Donnie and his team are currently showing off their range of skills and talent, turning Amy’s yard into a refreshing outdoor escape, one project at a time (with still more to come soon!).
The process? Donnie describes it step by step. “We ask the questions, help clients envision the options with 3D renderings of their home with the improvements, and then work on the design until they absolutely love it. Best of all, we can plan to work through a project in phases to fit within a budget, which is what we’re doing with Amy.”
This outdoor space is still a work in progress, but Amy and her kids are already thoroughly enjoying the parts of the project that are complete. Follow along here to explore the possibilities for your own yard (along with a few inspiring ideas?).
When this customer requested a place for the kids to hang out, Donnie’s crew delivered in spades. Now Amy and her kids can do that, literally—in three swings suspended from a gorgeous custom-built pergola. Strategically positioned with a view of the in-ground pool, the cushy round hanging swings invite the family to nestle in for lounging, reading or alfresco dining.
Hello, summer! The custom 18'x36' heated saltwater pool features a unique curved design. Decorative pavers surround the single-depth pool, and colorful LED lighting keeps it festive and fun well into the night. An impressive waterfall feature is in the plans, but the family is already happy. “We love it. With all the fun the kids have, plus relaxing on a float after a long day at work, it truly is our own little paradise.”
A three-tiered fountain blends nicely with the updated landscaping and paver driveway. Beyond visual appeal, it provides another way to enjoy the yard. The attention-grabbing water feature has quickly become the perfect place for special occasion photo ops. Amy’s favorite part of this new addition? Enjoying a coffee on weekend mornings while listening to the fountain and watching the kids play in the yard.
No more cracked and settling concrete here!
The 200-foot driveway now provides sophisticated curb appeal that welcomes the family home and provides an inviting entry for guests. Their paver-accented drive—starting with the apron and including the landing— seamlessly ties into the front walkway. Now it’s a stunning feature that complements the entire home and updated landscaping.
Magnolias, arborvitaes and maples are just part of the fresh features selected based on Amy’s preferences and needs. With an artful blend of 30–40 varieties of plants, trees and shrubs, there's always something beautiful in bloom. Even in winter, evergreens and plants with berries show off their brilliant color. The gorgeous natural elements are a perfect backdrop to the ongoing improvements of this property’s outdoor spaces.

“First-time players are often struck by the charm and natural beauty of the grounds.”
- Marianne
Talk about a whole new level of fun right in your own backyard—summer is in full swing at O’Bannon Creek Golf Club ... and it’s calling you. This private, member-owned Loveland golf club is idyllically situated on 187 acres off Route 48 near Goshen, offering a park-like course with scenic, wood-lined fairways. It’s truly a hidden gem ... nestled back into the trees, away from homes and street noise, making it the perfect place to discover and explore this summer.
Named after the creek that borders the property, the lush golf course has been around for 48 years and offers something for every golf enthusiast and community member. Currently, the club boasts 330 golf members and 130 social members—it also offers an impressive 18-hole course, including five holes with water in play as well as numerous natural hazards and bunkers.
“It’s a fun layout—challenging and enjoyable for all skill levels,” shares Marianne Utz Sahms, Director of Golf and Administration. “First-time players are often struck by the charm and natural beauty of the grounds. Folks never seem to tire of playing the same golf course ... which is a great testament to the design and setting.”
Membership also includes an updated practice facility with an expansive range and short-game practice area, full-service casual fare and fine dining, bar, locker rooms, an award-winning golf shop, and the option of private and group lessons from three PGA golf professionals.
Best of all, if you’re tired of calling around trying to find a tee time for those notoriously busy mornings, evenings or weekends, O’Bannon Creek Golf Club may be just the place for you. With a membership, there’s no need for a reservation , and it’s easy to access the golf course any day of the week. According to Marianne, O’Bannon Creek encourages a fast-paced golf environment, where most members walk the course in 4 hours or less.
Regardless of age, there’s something for every golf lover. The golf club even offers a student membership, where students can play and practice during the week without restrictions. “We’re likely the most junior-friendly private club in town,” smiles Marianne. “We have fielded a PGA Jr. League team for years, and have hosted numerous junior events and championships, as well as fostered a great environment for junior high, high school and collegiate golfers.” Talk about growing with the game.
There are also several tournaments for members, such as men’s and ladies’ championships, twoplayer team events, ladies’ invitationals, men’s and ladies’ leagues, and couples’ events, just to name a few. Marianne says the golf club has also hosted numerous city and state events and championships through the years.
However, it’s not all about golf 24-hours a day at O’Bannon Creek. With a host of social and charity events, this club is busy day and night. “We’ve worked diligently to create a fun, family-oriented community,” Marianne explains. “It’s a home away from home for our members.”
In fact, members and their guests often partake in the revelry all year long. Favored events include a Fourth of July cookout, special wine tastings, unique festivals, themed dinners, and, of course, annual holiday celebrations. The club is also home to up to 10 charity golf events per season that help raise money and support for nonprofits such as Green Beret Foundation, Stepping Stones Ohio, Child Focus, CancerFree KIDS, and Circle Tail, Inc.
And food and drink choices? They’ve got that well-covered, too. From burgers and wings to gourmet salads and elegant entrées, even the pickiest of eaters will enjoy the dining options, with seating both indoors and out. The main dining room offers a more formal setting, while the grill room, bar, legends room and veranda deliver a decidedly casual, laidback setting, Marianne says. “It’s a comfortable, cozy setting with great food,” she explains. “We are very proud of what we offer our members.”
In addition, the beautifully outfitted clubhouse is designed to host reserved events, including private gatherings hosted by members, such as birthday parties, baby showers, and rehearsal dinners. The club also often hosts business meetings, card parties, and many other activities at their members’ request.
So whether you’re just dipping your golf shoes onto the green for the first time, or are a long-time, seasoned player looking to up their game, it’s not too late to discover everything O’Bannon Creek Golf Club has to offer. With membership spots still available, you don’t have to miss out on any of the fun this summer (and beyond) has to offer.

THERE’S SO MUCH FUN TO BE HAD! GET OUT AND EXPLORE AND DO EVERYTHING—BUT PLAY IT SAFE.
It’s not a far stretch to say life is all about human connections and unforgettable experiences. With the heart of the warm-weather season already here, now’s the perfect opportunity to get with your people and get going. Head to the beach or backyard, bbq joint or local blues festival, and make the most of your summer.
But here’s a friendly reminder that as enjoyable as summertime activities can be, a common mishap can spoil the fun. Before you set out on the Great American Road Trip or make your way to that spectacular fireworks show, check out these super-handy summer safety tips, brought to you by Loveland’s own Wolterman Law Office.
“Summer’s meant to be full of fun and spending quality time with family and friends—which can quickly take a turn without proper precautions. To keep you and your family safe from personal injuries all summer long, use common sense and stay alert!”
– Steve Wolterman
Buckle up, this is about more than just seat belts
Designate a Driver. Pass off the car keys to someone in your group who will abstain from alcohol before attending any parties. Utilizing a ride-sharing service to get home is also an uber-smart idea.
Watch Out for Pedestrians. Jogging, shopping, or simply taking in the sights, they’re everywhere in warm weather. Be proactive in scanning for pedestrians, especially in crosswalks.
Use Caution in Traffic. A seasonal increase in cars and motorcycles on the roads means more opportunity to meet one unexpectedly. Slow down and look around in congested areas (and remember, phones down!).
Be certain you’re making the right kind of memories
Campfires & Fireworks. Easy to forget—whenever fire or combustibles are involved, always have a water supply or extinguisher nearby. Maintain a safe distance, be extra cautious with children, or just leave the pyrotechnics to the pros.
Barbecues & Picnics. Tasty tips: grills should be kept at least 10 feet away from any structure. Plus, grills that are cleaned regularly are less likely to cause accidental fires and injuries.
Pool Parties & Water Sports. Keep a watchful eye on little ones around any body of water. Always wear a life jacket for boating, jet skiing, and any other water sports.
In the unfortunate circumstance you experience a summertime accident or injury, speak with the legal team at Wolterman Law Office for a no-cost consultation.

Greater Cincinnati just got a whole lot cleaner, and Rolling Suds—one of the country’s largest commercial and residential power washing companies—just got even bigger, with the help of three new franchise owners to serve Loveland, Symmes, Deerfield and beyond.
Rolling Suds’ power wash methods and superior equipment allow service technicians to reach up to five stories high to clean office buildings, apartment complexes, housing developments, hospitals, schools, parking lots, and other public spaces. The company also shines (pun intended) at polishing private properties and residences for a squeaky-clean look that helps transform the way families can really appreciate them.
These local Rolling Suds franchisees are proud of serving friends and neighbors—while also exploring all our area has to offer.
But it’s not just access to powerful tools that make the brand successful, however. The Rolling Suds brand and franchise is built on three core elements: relationships, reputation and reliability … each one intended to benefit both dedicated customers and proud franchise owners alike.
Rolling Suds has already made quite an impact in other regions across the country, happily serving more than 200,000 residential and commercial clients. And now, it’s positioned for growth throughout Greater Cincinnati as well.
When asked about what makes it stand out, local franchise owners are quick to point out that it’s a combination of hiring the best people, using the best equipment, and providing customers with the best experience the industry offers. These local Rolling Suds franchisees are proud of serving friends and neighbors—while also exploring all our area has to offer.
Northeast Cincinnati Rolling Suds franchisees Kevin Carr and Dan O’Hara know a thing or two about serving neighbors, and are proud to bring the company into their own communities; Ken Melick is excited to oversee the brand’s offerings as well from his Cincy-Dayton hub.
Kevin moved to Cincinnati in 1994 to attend college at Xavier. “I’m a local now,” he proudly explains, and currently lives in Montgomery.
Dan, on the other hand, has lived in the Greater Cincinnati area his whole life. His favorite part? “I love the great restaurants we have,” he says. “I enjoy traveling all over to sporting events. When I can, you’ll find me at one of the many great golf courses we have here.”
The decision to begin a partnership offering Rolling Suds services, they both say, was an easy one.
“I really liked the concept and the leadership,” Kevin says of the Rolling Suds team. After operating a vending business for more than two decades, he was looking for another business to grow. That’s when he learned of Rolling Suds. “We decided it was right for us.”
Dan credits a desire to own a business “with the support of a growing and thriving franchise,” as key to his decision. “We aligned our values of establishing credibility and trust in the community,” Dan offers, “while providing a much-needed service.”
Dan points to prior experience serving the community as influencing his commitment to Rolling Suds.
“I recently left a 25+-year career in the sales and service industry,” he shares. “That experience taught me there’s no replacement for excellent customer service—and that we at Rolling Suds should always put the customer experience first.”
There were also experiences learning about and exploring the community that he valued. “I look forward to building relationships with the people I get to meet every day. We’re in a relationship business, and building upon that should allow us to grow our own business.”
RollingSudsPowerWashing.com/cincinnati-northeast
“This is a great opportunity to build a nationally recognized brand. And we’re happy to be a part of building it.” - Ken
“Power washing,” Ken says, “is needed by almost everyone.” In addition to that sincere sentiment, however, is his belief in Rolling Suds as a powerful network and dependable brand. Ken oversees Rolling Suds operations in the Cincinnati-Dayton area.
No stranger to providing home and business solutions, Ken operated a Filta Environmental Kitchen Solutions franchise for a decade before joining the Rolling Suds family. He points out that each company serves a similar customer base.
When asked about what drove him to be part of the organization, Ken singles out the company’s culture. “Rolling Suds makes it clear that this is a relationship,” he says, “and they’re committed to putting franchisee interests first. This will lead to a strong and vibrant franchise network over time.”
“This is a great opportunity to build a nationally recognized brand. And we’re happy to be a part of building it.”
When he’s not hard at work helping homes and offices look their best, Ken enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys. “I grew up in Lebanon,” he says. After graduating from Ohio State University, he lived in Columbus for about 10 years. Now, he’s back on home turf in Greater Cincinnati, and eager to help friends and neighbors make the most of their surroundings.
“We’re happy to have moved back home” he finishes with a smile.

All Natural For These Local Entrepreneurs and Their Bottled Water
ARTICLE BY PAMELA MCWHORTER

How can you take some of the world’s best water and make it even better? Former Procter and Gamble colleagues Erik Loomis (a Loveland resident) and Satinder Bharaj, PhD, say they’ve found a way, and it’s called Pahhni® Premium Alkaline Water.
Their startup business—which springs from the award-winning waters of the Great Miami Buried Valley Aquifer in Hamilton, Ohio—has been making a splash around town, where it’s sold at select local businesses and is a sponsor at popular community events throughout the year.
Pahhni is also making waves among a number of social media influencers, including ESPN sports analyst and former NBA player Kendrick Perkins, San Diego State swimmer Avery Turney, APGA professional golfer Kevin Hall, former World Boxing Organization heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster, and Nashville recording artist Michelle Robinson.
That’s quite a roster, right? Especially considering bottles of Pahhni just started flowing off the production line in July 2022. However, these fans see something—or more likely, taste something—different in Pahhni. According to Satinder and Erik, it’s what’s not in Pahhni that accounts for its appeal.
“Our water goes through natural limestone filtration,” explains Erik. “The majority of other alkaline waters are made artificially.”
With artificially-made alkaline water, electrolytes (aka salt) are used during the production process to stabilize the pH level within a specified time period. Pahhni is naturally alkaline, so there’s no salty aftertaste—just a hint of sweetness with a crisp, refreshing finish. Maybe that’s what inspired Erik and Satinder to come up with the name Pahhni, which is the Punjabi word for water “pani” with an “ahh” added in. It’s water—that’s extra refreshing.
Alkaline water, which has a higher pH level than typical water, has been rapidly rising in popularity
in recent years due to its overall health benefits, including superior hydration versus regular water.
“We like to say increasing the alkalinity lets your body work on other things other than trying to maintain its proper pH,” says Erik.
Satinder and Erik are not only the founders of Pahhni; they’re also the production line staff. A day or two a week, they process and bottle Pahhni in a clean room that’s adjacent to their office space. The other days, they’re out making deliveries. Weekends? Well, those are made for sponsoring events, which Marsha Loomis, Pahhni’s executive director of public relations, arranges. And she’s been busy. If you ran a race or attended a sporting event around Loveland, chances are you were handed a free bottle of Pahhni.
“We also do a lot with the schools,” says Marsha, a P&G alum herself. “We’ve been the hydration sponsor for the athletic boosters, music boosters, homecoming parade, cross country, and girls’ volleyball.”
On September 28, you can find Pahhni as the hydration sponsor for Sonder & Friends Oktoberfest 5K in Mason, which benefits the Greater Project, supporting vulnerable children in Kenya and India.
“We’re getting a lot of positive support,” says Satinder, who spent 27 years at P&G before becoming an entrepreneur. “I have people asking me, ‘What is retirement?’ and I laugh, ‘I don’t know.’ This is my phase-two career.”
Because when it comes to quenching the growing thirst for alkaline water, Satinder, Erik and Marsha are always ready to dive right in.
Want to order your own Pahhni, see more about upcoming events, or just follow this amazing hydration journey? Follow those socials and check out their website.

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS HOSTS SUMMER FUNDRAISER BENEFITING ALZHEIMER’S
ARTICLE BY CARLY TAMBORSKI
Beat the heat with Magnolia Springs Loveland as they host their annual Lemonade Stand Fundraiser in late July, benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati.
“We do some great fundraisers throughout the year, but our annual lemonade stand is among the most simple and perfect,” says Debby Farmer, Community Resource Director.
This assisted living and memory care community boasts nearly 70 apartments in a traditional assisted living space and 48 apartments in their “Memory Care Neighborhood.”
“Our Memory Care Neighborhood is devoted to those with some sort of dementia—we provide very specific care for our residents and very specific training to our employees,” Debby shares. “It’s a difficult disease overall, so our goal with the fundraiser is ultimately a world without Alzheimer’s disease.”
Now in its sixth year, the event began with a manager’s daughter inspiring the very first lemonade stand fundraiser.
“We all did lemonade stands when we were young, and it’s just continued to be a positive thing—it even brings in people driving by that day who see our lemonade stand sign,” Debby smiles. “We’ve had tremendous results from the community at large just stopping and making donations. This year, we may also have some lawn games like cornhole and hillbilly golf.”
Those who would like to support the cause can simply drive into the Magnolia Springs parking lot and look for the tents.
“Any donation is accepted,” says Debby. “Just let us know how many glasses of lemonade you’d like.”
Rain or shine, this annual Lemonade Stand Fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association takes place Wednesday, July 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. What better place—or reason— to stop on a summer day?
“Our goal is to have our residents continue to live the life they’ve loved, no matter their status—rather than looking at things they can’t do, we focus on what they can do … that’s what our memory care is all about.”
Thirsting for some sweet summer refreshment at home? Try this recipe for your own twist.
Ingredients:
• 6 lemons
• 1 cup white sugar
• 6 cups water
Directions: Juice the lemons (roll or cut them, or use a juicer or citrus reamer, reserving the pulp if desired). Combine juice, sugar and water in a pitcher; thoroughly stir until sugar dissolves. Taste, and add more water if desired (to dilute or cut the tartness/ sweetness). Refrigerate until well chilled; serve with ice and fresh lemon slices.
For a summery treat, turn this recipe into strawberry lemonade! Cut the green stems off ½ lb of strawberries, then purée in a food processor or immersion blender; strain to remove seeds (if desired) and set aside. Bring 2 cups of water and 1 cup sugar to simmer in a saucepan over medium heat; cook until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Juice lemons as above, then combine lemon juice, strawberry purée and sugar syrup. Chill and serve over ice with fresh strawberries (or consider kicking it up even more by adding rum or vodka … voilà!).

What’s better than dining al fresco? The fresh air, the sunshine, the summer breeze (before the sultry, humid heat of late July/August descend). Whether impromptu patio picnic or full-blown basket-and-blanket affair, there’s simply nothing like a meal out of doors. Even better? There’s one place with everything you need to pack and please—Castle Prime Meats.
“But wait,” you say. “I thought they were just a butcher shop.” Au contraire. This hidden gem off Loveland Madeira Road is truly a one-stop, easy-access shop, stocking everything from fresh fruits and veg to
pantry items like pastas and oils—alongside, of course, high-quality beef, pork and chicken.
But they didn’t stop there. This neighborhood store also carries pre-made sides, salads and entrees. “We keep it easy for you,” smiles manager Zack Louis. “If you don’t want to cook, we have you covered!”
And that includes Sixteen Bricks breads, Georgia peaches, sweet corn, and homegrown tomatoes from Adams County.
But the true hidden gem at this hidden gem? The Rosemary Chicken Salad. Truth—I usually make my
Your Outdoor Dining Adventure Is Calling, and It’s Demanding Chicken Salad
own, ’cuz I haven’t found one that measures up. I stand corrected. It was creamy. And dreamy. Just-right without being overly … anything. “It’s refreshing and different,” Zack says. “It doesn’t dry out like most other chicken salads.” And pairs perfectly with their fresh summer salad or pasta salad. Hint, both.
Then the ultimate question—bread or crackers? I default to Triscuit, but stand corrected again. “It’s a little sweet, so I don’t think I could do a whole sandwich,” Zack shares. He’s right; half was perfect. “I think it’s a nice topper with crackers. Ritz, if you will.” Right again—I couldn’t resist just one more cracker-filled scoop.
And while Zack and shop owner John Ness are happy to share their proprietary recipe, my reco is to skip the make-your-own and just pick up some instead—why mess with perfection?

Blue Latitudes: Boldly Going Where Captain Cook Has Gone Before. The Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist travels to various parts of the world, following in the footsteps of explorer James Cook.
BY ELIF SHAFAIT
It is 1974 on the island of Cyprus. Two teenagers, from opposite sides of a divided land, meet at a tavern in the city they both call home. The tavern is the only place that Kostas, who is Greek and Christian, and Defne, who is Turkish and Muslim, can meet, in secret, hidden beneath the blackened beams from which hang garlands of garlic, chili peppers and wild herbs. This is where one can find the best food in town, the best music, the best wine. But there is something else to the place: it makes one forget, even if for just a few hours, the world outside and its immoderate sorrows.

Three classic tales of childhood on an island paradise - My Family and Other Animals, Birds, Beasts and Relatives and The
Garden of the Gods by Gerald Durrell - are available in a single edition for the first time in The Corfu Trilogy
Just before the Second World War the Durrell family decamped to the glorious, sun-soaked island of Corfu, where the youngest of the four children, ten-year-old Gerald, discovered his passion for animals: toads and tortoises, bats and butterflies, scorpions and octopuses. Through glorious silver-green olive groves and across brilliant-white beaches Gerry pursued his obsession . . . causing hilarity and mayhem in his ever-tolerant family.
