Lifting the Ladies of Lebanon

May is a month that naturally leans into beauty— blooms begin to unfurl, sunshine lingers a little longer, and we pause to celebrate the incredible women who shape our world with strength, grace, and resilience.

In this special Women’s Issue, we’re honoring the leading ladies of Lebanon—women who inspire us with their stories, their service, and their style. From the entrepreneurs building legacies to the caregivers nurturing communities, this issue is filled with moments that celebrate the power, purpose, and beauty of womanhood.

As Mother’s Day approaches, we’ve gathered thoughtful features that reflect the love and care moms pour into everyone around them. You’ll find a recipe that’s sure to make Mom’s day delicious, and a curated guide to local self-care experiences she truly deserves—like luxurious treatments, a refreshing blowout, and glow-worthy skin services, all from our trusted partners.

As a female business owner, I’m continually inspired by the women in this community—those I’ve featured in these pages, and those who quietly lead in their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us.

This month, let’s lift the ladies of Lebanon—by celebrating their successes, sharing their stories, and supporting their dreams. And as we do, I’m reminded of Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”

Here’s to strong women, in all the ways they show up—with heart, with hustle, and with unmatched beauty. This month we celebrate you!

CELEBRATING WOMEN WHO SHAPE LEBANON

PHOTOGRAPHY BY KAT BRADSHAW PHOTOGRAPHY

At the heart of Wilson County, six remarkable women are shaping Lebanon’s future through leadership, resilience, and a deep commitment to their community– thriving in every season. From business consultants to entrepreneurs and industry trailblazers, these women have built legacies rooted in service, faith, and empowerment. Their journeys, filled with wisdom, determination, and heart, remind us of the incredible impact strong women have when they uplift others. As they share their stories, lessons learned, and the advice they’d give their younger selves, we celebrate their contributions and the powerful roles they play in making Lebanon a thriving, connected, and inspiring place.

For Katie, legacy isn’t about titles or achievements—it’s about how she makes people feel. “I don’t want to be remembered for my job title. I want to be known for loving well and creating spaces for real, authentic connection,” she says.

A recent lesson changed her perspective: “The most important relationship I’ll ever have, aside from my relationship with God, is with myself.” She realized that how she treats herself teaches others how to treat her. “If I don’t respect myself, prioritize my well-being, and uphold my values, why would anyone else?”

Her biggest inspirations? Her mother and grandmother. “As a child, I didn’t realize how much my mom sacrificed for us. Now, as a busy adult, I see the grace and strength it took to balance it all.”

To her younger self, she’d say: “Enjoy where you are. Stop rushing to the next thing. Life isn’t about climbing ladders—it’s about the people you love and the moments you cherish.”

Her mornings start at 4:30 a.m. with red light therapy, prayer, a workout, and an audiobook—fueling her mind, body, and soul for the day.

As for seasons? “Fall used to be my favorite, but now I love Spring, Summer, and Fall. There’s something magical about each.”

Katie Myers

For Nicole, legacy is about faith in action. She strives to make Lebanon a place where people feel supported, empowered, and inspired to serve. “I hope to leave a legacy of faith in action by helping others, building meaningful relationships, and contributing to the growth of our community,” she shares.

Her guiding principle? “Find ways to add value to people.” This piece of advice shaped her career and life, reminding her that the greatest impact comes from uplifting others.

Nicole credits her mother, grandmother, and aunt for instilling in her the power of service. “They gracefully served others with joy and never sought recognition for their efforts,” she says. If she could tell her younger self anything, it would be “Laugh more. I took life too seriously and missed out on the fun of the moment.”

Her success starts with daily prayer and meditation, setting her focus for the day. And when it comes to seasons? “Summer is my favorite—travel, volunteering, and, of course, more ice cream!”

Nicki Jones

Darlene’s dream was to bring the warmth of island culture to Lebanon—and she’s done just that. “I want Island Breeze Bistro to be remembered not just for great food, but for the spirit of community it brings.”

She believes in learning from every challenge: “Get all you can, and can all you get.” This mindset has helped her turn obstacles into stepping stones.

The two most influential women in her life? Her mother and daughter. “My mother taught me resilience and grace. My daughter inspires me with her compassion and strength.”

To her younger self, she’d say: “Trust your instincts, take risks, and believe in yourself. Everything will work out—just trust God and do your part.”

Her day begins with prayer, meditation, and journaling—habits that keep her centered and focused. And when it comes to seasons, she loves Spring. “It’s a season of renewal, growth, and fresh possibilities.”

Darlene Webb

Michelle is paving the way for women in male-dominated industries. Her goal? To inspire others to lead with faith, integrity, and purpose. “If I can encourage others to embrace their potential and make a difference, then I’ll know I’ve made an impact.”

The best advice she ever received? “Step outside your comfort zone.” Every major success in her life has come from doing just that.

Her mentors include Heidi Ellsworth, founder of National Women in Roofing, and her close friend Liz Garza. “Liz and I met as industry competitors, but we never let that get in the way of friendship. We support each other in life and in business.”

To her younger self, she’d say: “You don’t need all the right answers—just take the next right step.” She’s learned that success comes from the journey, not perfection.

Her mornings begin with Bible reading, often through The Bible Recap podcast. “Starting my day in Scripture gives me clarity and gratitude.”

Though she once loved Summer, Fall has her heart now. “Friday night football, community spirit, and watching my son grow into a leader—there’s nothing like it.”

Michelle Boykin

Kaci Fisher’s mission is personal—she hopes to provide support, peace of mind, and hope for the future to special needs families like her own.

She finds purpose in 1 Peter 4:10: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another.” Her experience as a special needs mom drives her commitment and sense of urgency in helping others. Sometimes we have to walk through the hard times and then step out in faith to use them in the ways we’ve been called.

Her greatest inspiration is her mother. “She showed me perseverance, grace under pressure, and unwavering faith.”

To her younger self, she’d say: “Just be yourself. Don’t worry about what others think— shine bright.”

Her morning routine? Quiet time with God, journaling, and lots of coffee.

She loves Fall on their farm. “A crisp breeze, beautiful leaves, and a rocking chair on the porch—it doesn’t get better than that.”

LEBANON MAIN STREET

Robyn hopes to inspire others to follow their passions and build strong community connections. She believes, “When we support each other, amazing things happen.”

Her personal motto? “Be kind.” It’s simple yet life-changing—“Kindness can shift someone’s entire day—or even their life.”

Robyn’s biggest influences are her mom, adopted grandma Evelyn, daughter Lily, and close friends, who’ve taught her about resilience, love, and grace.

To her younger self, she’d say: “Do your best and forget the rest.” While we can’t control outcomes, we can control our effort and attitude.

Her mornings include hydration, stretching, walking her dogs, and a quiet moment with coffee to review the day’s plan.

Spring and Fall are her favorite seasons—“Spring brings fresh energy and blooming flowers, while Fall in Tennessee is simply magical.”

The 41st Annual Phoenix Ball: June 7th , 2025

One of the premier charity events in Tennessee, the Phoenix Ball, is a black-tie gala benefiting Cumberland University. Attended by hundreds of prominent middle Tennesseans, the Ball has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for scholarships for students attending Cumberland. Kevin and Christine New, the chairs for this year’s event, have been working tirelessly with members of the Planning Committee since last summer to plan a truly spectacular event. The theme for this year’s Ball is “Starry Night”.

In keeping with tradition, the evening will begin with a wonderful reception and silent auction at 5:30 PM. The guests will then move into the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena at 7:00 PM for the dinner, program, and live auction. Dancing begins at 9:00 PM and goes until midnight.

Hunt Brothers Pizza is this year’s presenting sponsor and we are extremely grateful for their outstanding support. A limited number of tickets ($475 per person) are still available and can be purchased directly on the Phoenix Ball website phoenixball.com.

Symphony on the Lawn –Friday, June 13, 2025

Patron’s Party –Saturday, July 19, 2025

The annual Patron’s Party and the Phoenix Ball events have traditionally gone hand in hand. While the Phoenix Ball is a very formal event for up to 475 guests, the Patron’s Party is a more casual and intimate event for 100 – 200 guests. Patron’s Parties have typically been hosted in homes of the hosts, but this year we are trying something different.

This year’s Patron’s Party will be hosted by Jim and Gina Stradley, at the Lebanon Golf and Country Club, on July 19, 2025.

Tickets for this year’s event are $175 per person and they are still available for purchase at phoenixball.com/tickets.

Sports Village Fitness Empowers Women in Fitness and Beyond

StrongHER

Together

At Sports Village Fitness (SVF), fitness is about more than just breaking a sweat—it’s about building strength, confidence, and community. With seven dedicated female trainers, a wide range of training programs, and a supportive environment designed to help women thrive, SVF is redefining what it means for women to take charge of their health.

Sports Village Fitness Owner, Peggy Keel

From weightlifting to Pilates, self-defense to group training, SVF provides a space where women feel empowered to challenge themselves, connect with others, and grow stronger—both physically and mentally.

MEET THE WOMEN BEHIND THE STRENGTH

Each of SVF’s female trainers brings her own unique experience, passion, and expertise to help women achieve their fitness goals.

Carly Cates grew up in a family of athletes and brings her competitive background in tennis to her training. With a degree in Sports Management and a NASM certification, she’s passionate about helping both young athletes and seasoned competitors push past their limits. Carly is excited to train individuals of all ages and looks forward to making a positive impact in her clients' lives.

Thalia Luffman, an ISSA-certified personal trainer and boxing instructor, believes fitness is a powerful tool for mental resilience. “Your body can do it—it’s time to convince your mind,” she says. Having been involved in sports from a young age, she understands that fitness is more than just physical transformation—it’s about building confidence, maintaining a happy lifestyle, and overcoming challenges.

Paige Paladino blends her love of sports and science into her training approach. With a background in sports medicine and an ISSA certification, she focuses on making women feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. “Put all excuses aside and remember this: You are capable,” she encourages. Paige enjoys strength training, HIIT, and spin, and she loves helping clients explore new workouts.

Cristina Martinez started her fitness journey to improve her own health but soon realized her passion for helping others do the same. Her experience in CrossFit reinforced her belief that fitness is a lifelong journey with endless possibilities for growth. Cristina is dedicated to working with clients of all ages and finds joy in seeing them achieve what once seemed impossible.

Holly Frisch knows what it takes to create lasting change—she lost 90 pounds in nine months and later became an ISSA-certified personal trainer. With additional certifications in Functional Nutrition & Metabolism, she helps women approach fitness with a holistic mindset, emphasizing lifestyle changes that go beyond the gym.

Amber Fraley specializes in Contemporary Mat and Reformer Pilates, ensuring women of all fitness levels can build strength, flexibility, and endurance in a safe and supportive environment. With over a decade of experience, she provides modifications for injuries and special conditions, making fitness accessible to everyone. She has a passion for offering positive, motivating, and challenging workouts tailored to each individual.

Courtney Schroder discovered her passion for fitness in Colorado, earning certifications as a personal trainer, nutritionist, health coach, elite trainer, and master trainer. She loves working with people of all backgrounds but finds the most joy in helping middle-aged women lose weight, build confidence, and improve mental health. For Courtney, fitness isn’t about restriction—it’s about creating a balanced, healthy lifestyle while still enjoying life. She believes exercise and nutrition should be empowering, not punishing.

CREATING A COMMUNITY FOR WOMEN TO THRIVE

Women naturally thrive in community, and SVF recognizes the importance of providing a welcoming space where women feel seen, supported, and understood. Through group fitness classes, small group training, and even childcare services, SVF makes it easier for women to prioritize their health without sacrificing other responsibilities.

“A lot of women feel more comfortable working with female trainers because we understand their challenges,” says the SVF team. “We become their cheerleaders—not just in the gym, but in life.”

Trainers at SVF tailor workouts to each woman’s unique needs, ensuring that every client feels

strong, powerful, and confident. “We don’t just train bodies,” Thalia adds. “We build friendships, trust, and support systems that help women push through mental and physical barriers.”

OVERCOMING FITNESS MISCONCEPTIONS

Despite growing awareness about the benefits of strength training, many misconceptions still hold women back from reaching their full potential.

One common myth? Lifting weights makes women bulky.

“This is not the case UNLESS that is your goal,” SVF trainers emphasize. Strength training is one of the best ways to build lean muscle, reduce body fat, and improve overall health.

Another misconception is Eating less equals better health .

“In order to take care of our bodies and make them strong and fit, we must fuel them properly,” says the SVF team. Under-eating can slow metabolism, cause fatigue, and hinder progress in the gym.

Many women also over-rely on cardio, believing it’s the only way to lose weight.

Trainer, Amber Fraley

“Cardio is great, but strength training is essential for long-term health,” the trainers explain. It helps improve bone density, balance hormones, and enhances overall longevity.

UNDERSTANDING WOMEN’S UNIQUE FITNESS NEEDS

SVF trainers also recognize the unique challenges women face in their fitness journeys.

• Hormonal fluctuations: A woman’s energy and strength levels can vary throughout the month due to hormonal shifts. SVF trainers encourage women to listen to their bodies and adjust workouts accordingly.

• The demands of daily life: Many women juggle work, family, and personal responsibilities, making it hard to prioritize fitness. SVF makes it easier by offering flexible training times, childcare, and diverse class options to fit busy schedules.

• Feeling safe in the gym: SVF fosters an inclusive, non-judgmental environment with a zero-tolerance policy for harassment. With multiple workout areas, women can find a space where they feel comfortable.

BUILDING STRENGTH INSIDE AND OUT

SVF goes beyond traditional training by offering programs designed to empower women in all aspects of life. One of the most impactful offerings is the Women’s Self-Defense Class, a four-week program designed to build strength, endurance, and confidence. The course teaches women how to handle adverse situations, use defensive tools, and protect themselves— skills that extend far beyond the gym.

“It will help you feel more confident while taking care of yourself,” the trainers emphasize.

A SPACE FOR EVERY WOMAN’S FITNESS JOURNEY

Because SVF is a multi-purpose facility, women have endless options to explore what works best for their bodies. Whether it’s weightlifting, Pilates, yoga, step, kickboxing, spinning, or specialty classes like Burn Booty and Senior Strong, SVF ensures that no woman is limited to just one fitness style.

“We want women to enjoy the journey,” Holly says. “Fitness should be fun, empowering, and something that makes you feel good inside and out.”

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

At SVF, women aren’t just working out—they’re building a lifestyle of strength, resilience, and selfcare. With dedicated female trainers, a supportive community, and a variety of programs tailored to women’s needs, SVF is helping women take charge of their health in a way that’s sustainable, enjoyable, and empowering.

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your fitness to the next level, SVF is here to support you every step of the way.

LEGACY FARMS

WHERE HISTORY, HOSPITALITY, AND HEART COME TOGETHER

Tucked away in the scenic countryside of Lebanon, Legacy Farms isn’t just a venue—it’s a place where stories unfold, milestones are celebrated, and unforgettable moments come to life. With its rich history, Southern charm, and impeccable service, Legacy Farms has become a sought-after destination for weddings, corporate events, and special gatherings. But behind the stunning estate and top-tier catering is the inspiring journey of Kellie Bryson, a former nurse who turned her passion for hospitality into a thriving business.

Kathy Thomas Photography

Kellie’s path to the hospitality industry was anything but traditional. She began her career as a CVICU nurse, caring for critically ill patients, but found herself drawn to the joy of baking as a creative escape. What started as a small dessert business in 1996 quickly gained momentum, leading her to launch A Catered Affair and expand into full-scale catering.

With the encouragement of mentors, family, and her now-husband—who once sketched out her first business plan on a cocktail napkin—Kellie took a leap of faith. In 2010, she purchased Legacy Farms, a breathtaking estate with roots dating back to the 1830s. Originally a private home, the property had been transformed into an event venue in the 1990s, and Kellie saw its potential to become something truly special. Over the past 15 years, she and her team have renovated, refined, and reimagined the space, making it the elegant and welcoming venue it is today.

At Legacy Farms, hospitality is an art form. With nearly 30 years in the industry, Kellie has built a team that prides itself on exceptional service, attention to detail, and genuine care for each client. One of her event planners has been with the company for 24 years, a testament to the loyalty and passion that fuel the business.

From handcrafted menus to custom décor, every event at Legacy Farms is designed to be unique. Transparent pricing and clear communication ensure that expectations aren’t just met—they’re exceeded.

“Women deserve a seat at any table they wish, and together everyone is stronger.”

Kellie’s success wouldn’t have been possible without the female entrepreneurs and mentors who guided her along the way. Now, she pays it forward by hosting women’s networking events at Legacy Farms, creating a space for businesswomen to connect, learn, and grow.

“I never learned it all by myself,” Kellie says. “So many people helped me along the way, and I believe women deserve a seat at any table they wish.”

A Decade of Dreams

The Story of Urban Mills Boutique – Journey to 10 Years

Ten years ago, Ramona Welch took a leap of faith, transforming a vision into reality. What started as a small custom printing business has evolved into Urban Mills Boutique, a premier shopping destination in Lebanon. As the boutique celebrates its 10-year anniversary, Ramona reflects on her journey—one filled with hard work, dedication, and a deep love for fashion and community.

A lifelong resident of Hartsville, Ramona spent 15 years as a teacher in the Trousdale County School System before stepping away from education to become a local trendsetter in 2015. Urban Mills Promotions and Boutique, initially focusing on custom screen printing, embroidery, and promotional products, but her business quickly grew, and in April 2017, she moved to the Historic Downtown Square. This shift allowed her to expand into a carefully curated boutique featuring one-of-a-kind brands that reflect her unique style.

Urban Mills Boutique carries one-of-akind clothing, stunning jewelry and accessories from local artisans, and will soon introduce the Brighton Jewelry line. Beyond fashion, the boutique offers gift items, home décor, and cowhide rugs, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Ramona and her team specialize in helping customers find the perfect outfit for any occasion—weddings, vacations, parties, a night out in Nashville, or even the Kentucky Derby, complete with statement-making Derby hats. But beyond the stylish clothing, what truly sets the boutique apart is its warm, personalized shopping experience. Over the years, Ramona has built lasting friendships with her customers, many of whom she considers family.

"I love hearing their stories, celebrating their milestones, and being part of their lives,” she shares. “They’re way more than customers—they’re my people.” Events like Ladies’ Nights and special gatherings make Urban Mills more than just a boutique—it’s a place where women can connect, celebrate, and feel their best.

This is all possible because of Ramona’s incredible team. “I hear it all the time—our customers love my team,” she says, “They’re family.” Alongside her dedicated employees, her husband, Andy, has been by her side every step of the way. After 41 years of marriage, he’s

even developed a keen eye for fashion, often accompanying Ramona on market trips. She also credits her daughter, Carly, for encouraging her to expand into boutique fashion. When she’s not at the shop, Ramona enjoys gardening, relaxing by the pool, and spending cherished time with her four grandchildren.

Ramona’s greatest inspiration is her mother, a 90-year-old powerhouse who still drives, works a few hours a day, and never stops praying for and supporting her family. “She is so precious,” Ramona says. “I hope I inherited her good genes!”

Recently, Ramona was shocked and deeply honored to receive the Woman of Excellence Award at the Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce Banquet. Though she still lives in Hartsville, Wilson County has

embraced and supported her business in incredible ways. “I love being part of this community and giving back to it,” she says.

As Urban Mills Boutique celebrates 10 years, Ramona says she’s overwhelmed with gratitude for the customers, employees, and family who have supported her journey. To say thank you, the boutique is hosting a 10-Year Birthday Celebration during the first full week of May, with special events, exclusive promotions, and exciting surprises.

“Looking back, I can’t believe it’s been 10 years,” Ramona says. “Looking forward, I’m excited for many more. Thank you, God—I am so grateful and blessed.”

BELIEVING IN BIGFOOT

LOCAL WOMAN’S LEAP OF FAITH IN BUSINESS

WHIT MARIE

Starting a business is like believing in Bigfoot. It requires faith, persistence, and a willingness to show up, even when others don’t see your vision. For Donna Ferraro, the founder of Bigfoot Bartending, this metaphor perfectly captures her entrepreneurial journey.

Donna's story is one of a relentless pursuit of carving her own path. Ten years ago, as a young mother juggling a demanding post office job and raising her children without a support system, she faced a hard decision: work or be there for her kids. She chose family and left the post office to build a career in event bartending. But it wasn’t just about pouring drinks; it was about serving people, connecting with others, and making a meaningful impact.

Inspired by mentors Jim and Gina Stradley, owners of Sammy B's, who showed her the power of balancing family and work life, Donna realized that she could combine her passion for service with her entrepreneurial spirit. With this realization, Bigfoot Bartending was born. Named after the elusive creature that some believe in and others don’t, Bigfoot Bartending became Donna’s way of proving that even the most unconventional dreams can come true.

In 2022, after years of working events as a freelancer, Donna took the leap to formally establish Bigfoot Bartending as a highend event bartending business. At the time, she was a mother to three young children and admittedly, the decision felt a little “insane.” But she did it and hasn’t looked back. The payoff? She now runs a successful business that allows her to support her family while staying present for her children.

But Donna’s investment in herself didn’t stop there. Alongside Bigfoot Bartending, she is also a real estate agent with Compass RE - Roten Partners and an event manager at Tucker's Gap Event Center. Balancing multiple careers could easily lead to burnout, but for Donna, it’s all part of the beautiful chaos of motherhood and entrepreneurship. By investing in her own growth, Donna found a balance between work, financial independence, and quality family time—something she never thought possible.

Donna’s journey has taught her that investing in yourself is one of the most important decisions you can make. It’s not always easy, and the road is filled with setbacks, but it’s worth it. She encourages others to trust their journey, even when others don’t believe in their dreams. “You will fail,” she says, “but don’t stop. Stay positive, keep showing up, and make it your own.”

Donna Ferraro’s story is a reminder that with hard work, passion, and the courage to take risks, you can create the life you’ve always wanted. Just like Bigfoot, sometimes the magic happens when you simply choose to show up and believe.

On the Front Lines

Meet Two Lebanon Women Who Answer the Calls

Women in first responder roles have long fought to prove their strength and resilience in fields historically dominated by men. Meet two extraordinary local women—Lynn Ray and Lisa Beck—who have carved paths of dedication and service, inspiring future generations. Their journeys, though distinct, share a common thread: a relentless passion for emergency response and a deep commitment to their community's safety.

LYNN RAY: A LIFELONG DEDICATION TO EMERGENCY MEDICINE

For Lynn Ray, the call to serve started early. "I was always enthused with first aid and medical stuff," she recalls. That passion led her to the Civil Defense station in Lebanon, where she began her journey in emergency services. Over the years, she climbed the ranks, becoming a Lieutenant at Station 5 in Gladeville before retiring from Wilson Emergency Management Agency (WEMA) in 2000 to pursue a nursing career. Ray’s resume is extensive: EMT school in 1982, firefighter training, and continuous education in EMS and fire service.

One of her biggest challenges came when she attended basic firefighter school—one of only three women in her academy class. Alongside Glena Hunt and Debbie Malone, she entered a world where women were rare, determined to prove she could handle the same rigorous training as her male counterparts. "I had to prove to the men I worked with that I could pull my own and that I was tough," she says.

Her commitment extended beyond emergency response— she spent 15 years in the ER at Vanderbilt Wilson County before transitioning to surgical services. When COVID-19 struck in 2020, she returned to the ER without hesitation. "It was like I never left," she says.

Ray hopes her experience as one of WEMA’s first female firefighters has opened doors for the next generation of women in EMS and fire service. Her advice? "Attend all the classes you can. Keep expanding your education. Never stop learning."

Even after decades of service, Ray still feels the adrenaline rush when she sees an ambulance speeding past. "Emergency medicine has always been in my blood," she says. "It's my true love."

FROM DESK TO DUTY: HOW LISA BECK FOUND HER CALLING IN LAW ENFORCEMENT

Detective Lisa Beck’s journey into law enforcement started behind a desk, but it wasn’t long before she realized her true calling was in the field. Working as an administrative assistant for Parole and Probation in Nevada, she was drawn to the work of officers around her. Encouraged by mentors, she entered the Police Academy, launching a career that took her from supervising parolees to chasing criminals on the streets.

Her career began as a Parole and Probation Officer before she transitioned to Capitol Police, where she

gained patrol experience. But becoming a full-time officer brought a new challenge—she was one of only three women in her Police Academy class. "It wasn’t always easy," she admits, "but I pushed myself beyond my limits to prove I belonged."

After years of service in Nevada, Beck felt the pull for a new challenge. In 2020, she made the life-changing decision to move to Tennessee, choosing Lebanon as her home while working in nearby Nashville. She joined the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) as part of the city's first lateral transfer class in a decade.

Her work in Nashville has been intense. "I've responded to almost every call imaginable," she says of her time in South Precinct’s Antioch area. Later, she joined the Vehicle Crimes Operations Unit, tracking stolen vehicles and suspects, before transitioning to Robbery Investigations. "Now, I speak with victims of robberies and do my best to bring suspects to justice."

Beck sees her role as an advantage, particularly when working with female victims of domestic violence and

assault. "They’re more willing to open up to me," she says. "Male officers often call me in because they know I can connect in a way that helps get the details we need."

Her advice to young women considering a career in law enforcement? "Push yourself beyond your limits. The job will test you in ways you never imagined—physically, mentally, and emotionally. But the moments where you truly make an impact? Those make it all worth it."

From Stem To Vase:

TRANSFORMING FLORALS INTO ART

Flowers have a rich history of symbolic meanings. As far back as the 19th century, they were used to convey secret messages. Stories throughout history recount how flowers were used to send hidden messages between people. French publishers began producing flower dictionaries that cataloged the many floral codes that had been gathered over time. Some of these meanings were linked to the flower’s root name, often derived from mythology, while others were drawn from the flowers themselves. The colors, medicinal properties, and even the

Florals and Fruit

Add a burst of color and texture to your floral arrangement by layering fruit around the edges of your vase. To achieve this, place a smaller vase inside a larger one, ensuring the flowers stay contained in the inner vase. Fill the surrounding space with water, then arrange sliced fruit along the vase’s outer sides. For a fresh touch, add ice cubes to keep the fruit looking vibrant longer and to hold them in place. Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.

superstitions associated with these flowers all contributed to the creation of this secret language.

In addition to their symbolic significance, flowers bring natural beauty to any interior, enhancing spaces with their color, texture, and mood-boosting qualities. Floral arrangements not only create a cozy atmosphere but also infuse a room with personality, elevating the overall ambiance. There are multiple ways to creatively integrate florals into your home, and whether using fresh or artificial flowers, creative displays can make quite the statement piece.

Hanging Florals

For a dramatic effect, try creating a hanging floral display. Floral cones are available for this style, or you can craft your own for a more personalized, organic look. The contrast between long-stemmed white flowers and a dark wall creates a striking visual impact.

No matter how you choose to display them, flowers are a wonderful addition to any room. They boost mood, improve air quality, spark creativity, and bring a decorative charm to any space.

Flower Frogs

Using a frog to display flowers creates a minimalist yet elegant look that highlights the individuality of each bloom. It helps the stems stay in place. To set it up, place the frog on your chosen display base, whether it’s a vase, bowl, platter, or any container you prefer. Then, simply insert the flower stems by gently pressing them into the prongs. Tip: Flowers with sturdy stems and a lighter top work best in a frog, as delicate blooms tend to lose their shape more quickly.
