We value the specific needs of each individual client. Our commitment to provide a superior level of service and attention to detail will be evident as we partner with you through every step of the process.
Mothers, sisters, wives, aunts and daughters are some of the most influential women in our lives.
And of course with Mother’s Day this month, attention is on moms. However, it’s not just biological mothers, but the mother figures in our lives who've made indelible impacts on us. It’s the family members, teachers, friends and neighbors taking awesome steps in our communities, pouring into our lives -- making themselves unforgettable and irreplaceable.
While it’s always important to shop local and support our area businesses, this month is the perfect time to patronize businesses owned by women in our community. That’s one of my favorite parts of this role -connecting with and championing the best of the best when it comes to Frisco's women. They are movers and shakers, builders and makers. They are both seen and unseen. Their silent service blesses those who are under their care. Their attention to detail shows us something about beauty that can’t be seen or understood any other way.
Additionally, how about the features of the innovative spaces at Frisco's new library, which include indoor and outdoor special event areas, a Creativity Commons, quiet reading room, community event room, terrace, makerspace, computer lab, teen area, children's services, "The Pond" (a themed area for toddlers), "Tiny Town" (designed for preschoolers).
Please take a few minutes to send a text, make a phone call, set up a special meal or get your kids on a video call with the women in your life who deserve recognition. Brighten someone’s day and remind them how much you love them.
Smiles to all,

AMANDA FINNEY
"Whether you're a business owner, customer, resident or student, our community's people are welcoming," proclaims Amanda Finney, owner of Neighborhood Solar. "You have a friend in the community everywhere you go." She says the advice that she'd give to future female leaders is that perseverance is key. "Always have faith and bet on yourself. You will succeed." While she admits her husband and two sons are her "whole world," she says she enjoys learning from other people within the Frisco community. "I'm a firm believer that other people who have 'been there, done that' can be the best teachers. Finding those I admire, being myself and asking questions is my go-to for finding mentorship."
AMY PATTON
Amy Patton, director of operations and marketing of Frisco-headquartered Libertas Capital Management, LLC, says she most admires Frisco area community residents
and employees' desire to serve those around them.
Looking toward upcoming female leaders, she says she would tell them they don't have to take 'no' for an answer, that they should keep going. "Reading will change your life," Amy says about what inspires her. "Always find someone ahead of you and ask questions."
TRACY LEE
As an animal lover involved with animal rescues, Tracy Lee, suggests to "dream big and never stop moving forward." She's a physician assistant at CCRM Fertility Dallas-Fort Worth. Her role is to serve as a liaison and education resource for referring physicians of patients with fertility challenges.
She says the Frisco region is filled with pride and a true sense of community.
Tracy shares that she looks to books for inspiration and knowledge, as well as her medical director, Dr. Dorette Noorhasan.
As branch manager of Lamar National Bank-Frisco, Mercedes Butler says she especially appreciates how welcoming and friendly the Frisco community is, while being supportive of local businesses. "I absolutely love meeting new people."
Mercedes finds inspiration from books, and recommends to future female leaders to always "be themselves, stay alert and build connections wherever you go." She adds, "Stay true and confident to who you are."
"Get involved," is the sage advice shared to upcoming female leaders from Alicia Baum, a commercial lender at Lamar National Bank-Frisco.
She says she is motivated by other women, podcasts and audio books.
"What I like most about Frisco is the willingness from small business owners and teams to help each other," explains Alicia.
Positive music, her husband and her faith in God uplifts Sandy Tutwiler, owner/education consultant of the local Tutor Doctor franchise for Frisco and McKinney.
"Be fearless, learn and know your numbers, that you are enough and can do anything you set your mind to," offers Sandy to future female leaders.
As the clinical lead for Dr. Shopana Ganpath's Pulse and Poise medical office in Frisco, Amanda Wahdan says she gets opportunities to witness that Frisco is a great, close-knit region. From assisting with medical and aesthetic procedures to providing patient care and education, she focuses daily on patient safety and satisfaction, and assures that the proof is in the details regarding local sentiments and operations.
She proclaims that everyone should get to know their "work neighbors."
Supporting and lifting one another up with encouragement is the first observation that comes to mind about the local community for Roxanne Rapske, a franchise specialist who assists potential business managers to find their best career matches.
She says she relishes having a podcast because it allows her to interview successful entrepreneurs and to hear their personal stories.
"I would recommend to future female leaders to believe in themselves and to surround themselves with other successful women who have gone before them for support," says Roxanne.
One of her favorite sayings is: "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
Frisco City Lifestyle Publisher Sharon Duffy enjoyed hosting Frisco female community leaders to a luncheon highlighting camaraderie and service; one embodying wise words of Dolly Parton: “If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you're an excellent leader.”
Laura Goodwyn says she’s always been a problem-solver type of person. Due to unforeseen circumstances in January 2020, Laura became the primary owner of Builders Carpet & Design Center. For Laura, selling the business was never an option.
“It was not a question of ‘if,’ it was a question of ‘how.’” With many employees and installers being with the company for more than 20 years, my main priorities were to make sure everyone knew the company was stable and moving forward,” Laura recalls.
“We’re a big family, and I care about the people here,” she adds. “I wasn’t just concerned about myself but for all the employees and their livelihoods. It was important for us all to stay together.”
Originally from Lubbock, Laura’s been in North Texas for the last 43 years. While she’d been primarily out of the workforce for 40 years, her business and accounting background allowed her to keep the business running and assure employees not to be worried. “My faith in Christ and

After rebranding the company, Laura set up the executive board with her sons, Jason, Jordan and Trey. They then got busy doing what their family has always done –– selling flooring. Builder Carpet & Design Center started in 1982 as a family-run and managed company. After becoming the primary owner, Laura wanted to bring her three sons under one roof. To achieve this, she and her sons merged Builders Carpet & Design Center, The Eclectic Floor Company, and BC Flooring Studio and rebranded the business as Goodwyn Flooring Companies. This rebranding allowed the business to expand their regional presence, serving primarily North Texas, but they work for clients regularly in Oklahoma, West Texas, Austin, Houston and East Texas lakes.
The company is backed by decades of experience in the wood, tile and carpet industry. Goodwyn Flooring Companies service new and existing home construction, and commercial construction industries. It features a state-of-the-art showroom with budget-friendly to high-end flooring. Product offerings include solid and engineered hardwoods, ceramic tile, natural stone, LVP, area rugs and other surface coverings. The team indicates the most popular floor covering always has been solid hardwood, however, they offer a variety of oak flooring in custom finishes and stains.
“Our customer service focus and longevity sets us apart from others in the industry,” says Laura.
“Thanks to homebuilders like Shaddock Homes, GG Cain, Alford Homes, and others, we’ve been able to succeed and grow for 40 years and put ourselves in a position to provide our customers unparalleled service,” says Jason Goodwyn, president of Goodwyn Flooring Companies.
In addition to being a woman-owned business, several of the company’s interior designers and administrative staff are single and single-again women. Laura says each employee is committed to following a project through from start to finish, partnering with clients to ensure the project is done correctly. Given the stable longevity of the employees, they’ve developed personal relationships with homebuilders and customers, with many being repeat customers.
“Goodwyn Flooring Companies focuses on relationships, not the sale. That has always been our mission,” says Jason.

Based on thoroughly and accurately handling the nuances of individual banking needs, the professional team of 10 at the newest Lamar National Bank location in Frisco provides full-service banking services, along with commercial, personal and mortgage loans
Exudes Frisco Pride
Located at 6801 Gaylord Parkway, Suite 101, since January 2022, Lamar National Bank CEO Greg Wilson says they selected Hall Park business campus for this location because they view it as the epicenter of Frisco’s commercial business. "We're excited to be part of this vibrant community. North Texas continues to attract companies from across the country, and its status as a commercial hub has exceeded very high expectations. We love being in the heart of it," he adds.
"We build lifelong, multigenerational relationships and use our collective talents to assist one customer, one family, one business at a time," he adds.
The bank's Frisco office is the right size to provide personal attention by building on the employees' culture of care.
"We refer to our services as 'relationship banking at its best' because we're all about having conversations so we can help solve our customers' financial challenges by working together to help them reach their goals," says Frisco Branch Manager Mercedes Butler, who joined Lamar during April 2022 after nine prior years of banking experience.
Mercedes says they're happy to provide Lamar's versions of flexible personal banking, supportive business banking and secure mobile banking options. "Customers tell us our bank has a different feel to it, that they feel important when here because we really do listen to their questions and take care of their needs."
Alicia Baum, Lamar's commercial lender in Frisco, says they view themselves as a concierge bank. "Going to our customers versus the customer coming to us,” she explains. "As a community bank, we're relationship-based and centered around
serving the community. A new source of pride for Lamar is our Community Hero Checking program designed for veterans, active military, first responders and teachers. It’s a way to show our appreciation for the numerous individuals who play a role in the countless opportunities we have thanks to their hard work."
Lamar National Bank started in 1981 in Paris, Texas. Lamar National Bank has full-service branches in Paris, Reno, Frisco, Celina and Northlake, as well as a loan production office in Bryan. At press time, the company's managers were about to open another banking location in Anna.

Connecting With This Unique Community For Women Veterans, Military Spouses And Dependents
She Vets It founder, Althea Williams, is a US Army combat veteran. She’s also a trailblazing podcast host who created an online community and “safe space” for women veterans and their families to provide resources and support from others who have shared experiences.
The She Vets It podcast explores topics regarding mental health, career development and issues important to women. Frisco City Lifestyle caught up with Althea to learn more about her endeavors.
Althea lived in Frisco prior to joining the military. While she currently resides in nearby Prosper, she has workspace at The Formation at The Star in Frisco. “I’ve worked with many Frisco organizations, and have strong ties to the community. I’m participating in the Frisco Veteran Advisory Council, and co-chairing the first Frisco Veteran Resource Expo on Sept. 20-21,” she says.
Her goal is to get a proclamation to host Women Veteran’s Day every year, given that Women Veterans Day has been an official holiday in Texas since 2017. “We’ll have a kick-off celebration on June 12, and I’m excited to be a part of this initiative.”
“This community was born out of my own experiences as a disabled Army woman veteran. I joined the military at age 39 with an MBA focused on advanced community studies, and a background as an executive director, small business development center assistant and public policy researcher. But my life took a dramatic turn when I enlisted in the Army and deployed to Afghanistan. I lost several of my battle buddies and dealt with PTSD. While stationed in Germany, I experienced a traumatic brain injury from a head-on collision that changed my life forever. Despite my medical challenges, I was determined to use my experiences to make positive impacts for women veterans and their families.
“She Vets It was created because I understood the power of community in healing, and it was what I was
looking for when I returned home from deployment. I didn’t expect it to expand beyond my local area; however, it’s grown into listeners and supporters from across the United States and internationally.”
“We seek a wide variety of guest speakers who can share unique perspectives as they relate to women veterans and families, not to exclude our male veteran supporters. I aim to provide audiences with a diverse range of voices, from veterans to service providers, advocates and experts in women’s entrepreneurship, health, employment, education, career training and more.”
“The Clubhouse app is a free, social networking platform and incredible tool that allows users to participate in live, audio conversations with other users. I started the club in 2021. There’s no charge to be part of it at Clubhouse.com/club/SheVetsIt It’s live on Instagram every Thursday, and soon will be increasing reach on YouTube, Spotify, Apple and other podcast platforms.
“I’m incredibly grateful for those who found hope and community through our platform. It’s an honor to have the support of film producers, television show producers, numerous podcasters, several cities, municipalities within the DFW community, universities and major corporations who recognize the She Vets It audience for their service.”
“I refer those who reach out for help with employment, mental health and financial support to organizations like Texas Veteran Network, Combined Arms program, Texas Veteran Commission and other vetted organizations, because what I do is for educational purposes only.
“I speak at events and conferences to discuss diversity and inclusion; the veteran transition and how to celebrate inclusive behavior within organizations; or important issues relating to military women, such as mental health, health care access, homelessness, employment and transitioning to civilian life. Women veterans often face unique challenges, including a lack of understanding or resources tailored to their specific needs.”
“I’m excited to sponsor the North Texas Training for the Veteran Sponsorship Initiative, a VHA program on June 29 at the Formation Star. It’s a program that matches transitioning service members with community-based sponsors to provide one-on-one support during the military-to-civilian transition.
“I rely on the support of listeners and supporters to continue the mission of bringing awareness of our women veterans. Everyone can subscribe to She Vets It on the website, follow on social media platforms, listen to the podcasts, volunteer time or resources with local VFW and American Legion organizations, and donate to these organizations.
“She Vets It is not a nonprofit organization, but will be in the future. By working together, we can ensure women veterans and their families receive the support and resources they need to succeed in their civilian lives.”

Volunteers are the heart of Frisco and neighboring areas. In support of this generous community, we’re spotlighting some of Frisco’s finest volunteers on a monthly basis. These are volunteers who exhibit passion, reliability, integrity, teamwork, positivity and energy. We salute their contributions of time, effort and talent to Frisco’s needs, causes or missions without personal financial gain.
For 29 years, Frisco Family Services has helped Frisco and Frisco ISD community members facing hunger, homelessness, loss of employment, health or medical issues, death, divorce and other destabilizing challenges.
One representative of the quality-minded and caring volunteers who support FFS is Jennifer Vedra. This Frisco resident even engages her family to assist, husband Pat and their three children, calling their volunteerism “Vedra Family Fun.” Examples of this family’s contributions include Thanksgiving food basket distributions; cleaning up FFS building trash; helping at the FFS Market; plus building and installing a FFS recycling shed cover.
“I started volunteering with Frisco Family Services 3.5 years ago and currently volunteer there three days a week,” Jennifer says, adding she chose FFS because it sounded like a great way to have a positive impact on others’ lives, and because what she does there actually matters.
She says she volunteers with, and often bakes for, fantastic people, and really enjoys getting to know the group’s clients. “When a client tells us it’s their last visit because they have a job and no longer need our services, that’s always something to celebrate. While I’m happy to be there when they need it, I’m happier to know they don’t need our help because they’re in a better situation.”
Jennifer summarizes: “Volunteering to help others just makes me feel good. And involving my family makes it that much better.”
To benefit Frisco Family Services, consider volunteering at the agency’s office, Frisco Resale store, or the grocery store-like Market. Also, hosting a food drive is an immediate way to support their community efforts. The group can be aided through the Amazon GIVES! Program, too. Call 972.335.9495 or visit FriscoFamilyServices.org/ what_you_can_do/ways-to-donate.
IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR
Bring spring indoors by brightening rooms with flowers, including entryways, kitchens, living rooms or even bathrooms. It’s a great way to create beauty in everyday living.
Use any cereal bowl in the kitchen and a bundle of store bought flowers, or ones grown. Other creative ideas for bowl alternatives include decorative platters, vintage vases, trays, outdoor containers, buckets or pails, rustic wooden bowls, pitchers, Mason jars, teapots, boots, old shoes, antique sugar bowls, wine bottles, watering cans, mugs or shallow containers for floating flower heads.
For an extra texture and depth in final projects, look for small tree or shrub branches and ornamental grasses found in yards to add intricacies into the arrangement. Then, place the newly created floral bowl in a place where a burst of joy is most needed. Enjoy!
• Bundle of flowers (about 24 stems), plus floral food packet
• Branches and ornamental grasses found in yard
• 6-inch bowl
• Floral shears (or garden clippers, kitchen shears, craft scissors)
• 12-inch square cut chicken wire
• Wire cutters
• Garden gloves (to protect hands when forming chicken wire)
• Clear floral tape (Scotch tape will do)
• Lazy Susan (also called a manual dumbwaiter) to easily move arrangement and work from all sides
First, prepare the mechanics. The mechanics are the non-floral elements used to assemble a floral arrangement. These materials will act as a grid in which the flowers are built into to hold each stem in its place.
• Wearing garden gloves, cut chicken wire roughly into a 12-inch square. Loosely form the chicken wire into a ball and place inside the bowl.
• Use clear floral tape to make an X shape over the top of the bowl to hold the chicken wire securely into place. This will also give extra support when adding the floral elements later.
• Fill the bowl with water and mix in a flower food packet, if flowers came with one.
• Begin to arrange floral elements into the bowl. As a general rule, start with the strongest, thickest stems and end with the most delicate stems. A good idea is to start with branches, then the largest base flowers followed by taller focal flowers, and finally delicate stems, grasses and wispy greens.
• When first bringing home flowers, clip the ends and add to clean water for 1 hour up to 24 hours. Then, when ready to build the arrangement, the flowers will be in tip-top shape.
• Replace the flowers’ water every two days to expand the life of the arrangement.
• Do not let any leaves or other foliage sit in the water as it will dirty the water faster.
• Remove dead flowers as they fade to make an arrangement look fresh longer.
If desired, download and print a Floral Bowl Arrangement guide found at at SilvertoothHome.com/store
