Share a brief bio about yourself.
My journey began at Texas A&M, graduating in ‘05, leading me into the medical field. However, my true calling emerged when I witnessed my father’s remarkable recovery post-cancer treatment. Guiding him back to mobility ignited a passion within me to empower others. Now, with over two decades of certification, I’ve cultivated a training and nutrition business centered on sustainable, balanced lifestyles, specializing in young athletes and individuals overcoming mobility challenges. On a personal note, I’m blessed with an extraordinary husband, Josh, and three dynamic stepdaughters, Piper, Knox, and Everly, whose soccer passion fuels our home. Our pack is completed by four rescued canine companions—Otto, Roscoe, Daisy Mae, and Princess—each a testament to our ‘foster failure’ love.
What’s your favorite “guilty pleasure”?
Contrary to the norm, my guilty pleasure is deeply rooted in my love for automobiles. I’ve been a ‘car girl’ since childhood, a passion that’s only intensified with time. Specifically, I’m a fervent Corvette enthusiast and have a deep appreciation for American muscle cars. It’s truly a delight to share this passion with my husband, turning our garage into a shared sanctuary of horsepower and craftsmanship.
Who is the woman who inspires you most, and why?
Among the many remarkable women I admire, Beth Twilla Wright stands as my guiding star. Her influence has been transformative, pushing me to elevate both my personal growth and business acumen. Beth embodies unwavering generosity, kindness, and love. Balancing the demands of a thriving company with the dedicated care of a son with disabilities and raising two exceptional daughters, all while prioritizing her faith, is nothing short of extraordinary. She inspires me to strive for a fraction of her grace and strength.
Describe your last perfect day off.
A ‘day off’—a rare and cherished concept! My most recent perfect day was spent in the delightful company of my stepdaughter, Knox. We began with leisurely coffee and heartfelt conversation, followed by a creative session at FoxFire Candle Company, where we crafted candles and bath products. Our day culminated in a relaxing manicure and pedicure after a delightful lunch. Any day spent with my husband or my girls, filled with laughter and connection, is truly a perfect day.
What advice would you give your younger self?
To my younger self, I’d say: Release the grip of overthinking and cast aside self-doubt. You possess an innate strength to conquer challenges. Embrace the recognition you deserve, and let your purpose shine as you positively impact the lives of others.
What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?
For the past 15 years, my heart has been dedicated to animal rescue, particularly through fostering and fundraising. Organizations like Schnauzer Rescue of Texas, H.A.R.T., and Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston hold a special place in my heart. The joy of providing temporary shelter or contributing to the care of these vulnerable animals, offering them a chance to experience love, is immeasurable.

I’m a dynamic and relational executive with a passion for people, community, and service. Raised in both Houston and Plano, I have built a life centered on connection, leadership, and giving back. My greatest joy comes from my four children, who range in age from 15 to 26. I hold a bachelor’s and a MEd from Texas A&M University (Whoop!) and am currently in my second year pursuing a Ph.D. in I-O Psychology. I am deeply grateful to have a career that allows me to give back in ways that align with my personal mission and values.
Committed to serving my community, I am actively involved in the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), the Federation of Houston Professional Women, and the YMCA Langham Creek board, among other volunteer initiatives.
I am honored to have been recognized as one of ABWA’s national Top Ten Business Women for 2024 and as the 2024 Woman of the Year for my local chapter.
Beyond my professional and community engagements, I am a devoted rescue cat mom and firmly believe in sharing my time, talents, and treasures to uplift others.
What’s your favorite “guilty pleasure”?
Netflix bingeing, dark chocolate and buying books. I not only have a living room wall full of books, I have stacks of books all over my house.
Who is the woman who inspires you most, and why?
I have been blessed with strong women leaders since I was a child. From my first-grade teacher, Mrs. Olson (I still have her framed photo on my dresser) to my professors at Texas A&M, to Pamela Adams from my first teaching job, to Diana Gulotta from my first executive job in McKinney, to Pam Wells in Cy-Fair. Laurie Bricker and Pam Redd continue to be mentors, but overall, I must mention a specific leader – Dr. Linda Parrish! She may blush, but I often talk about how she stood up for people’s rights, never shied away from sharing her beliefs, and lives every moment to the fullest! She taught me that when I am asked to dance, jump in with both feet and never hesitate.
Tell us about the last time you danced!
With the risk of over-sharing, I uniquely have been married/divorced to the same man twice! After 32 years, we found ourselves together, and I took him on a date to a charity gala this past Saturday. The live band was playing a favorite Sinatra song and we danced in the middle of the cocktail hour where there wasn’t a dance floor. We’ve had a beautiful journey together, and it was very romantic!
What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?
I love being a connector and helping people directly. I pray a lot and often post on my social media asking, “How can I pray for you?” I find joy in helping people directly, such as dropping off groceries, driving someone to an appointment, delivering a home cooked meal, or volunteering at an event. My faith calls me to give. I love people and I love them as they are, and not what society says they should be.

I spent forty years with Houston’s largest computing services company, where I retired as Vice President, Director of Operations. After my retirement, my husband, John, and I embarked on a new adventure by purchasing a struggling antique business. With determination and a lot of hard work, I managed to transform it into a profitable and thriving enterprise. I am a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a proud member of The Foundry Church. I am also the mother of four, with eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who bring immense joy to my life.
For many years, I worked alongside my husband in street outreach to the homeless in the Northwest Houston area. We began our ministry from the back of our truck, storing food, clothes, and other necessities in our garage. It didn’t take long for us to realize that we needed to provide more than just these items. In 2010, we sold our antique business to fund Cy-Fair Helping Hands, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping the homeless become self-sufficient. Under our guidance, this fledgling organization grew, soon acquiring office space and a food pantry, which enabled CFHH to serve not only the homeless but also the hungry in Cy-Fair. I remain active in volunteering with CFHH as the Senior Director of Homeless Services and Board President.
What’s your favorite “guilty pleasure”?
Daydreaming about my beautiful backyard and everything I want to do with it. My backyard is currently a disaster, but my dreams live on.
Who is the woman who inspires you most, and why?
Rahab. Rahab’s story is a powerful example of redemption and the transformative power of faith. She went from being a prostitute to a revered figure in biblical history. Rahab’s story is a testament to the transformative power of faith and God’s willingness to accept and use those who turn to Him, regardless of their past.
Tell us about the last time you danced!
Well, this is embarrassing. Picture this: an 80-year-old woman at Cy-Fair Helping Hands’ Festival of Trees. The band starts playing “Do You Love Me?” and without a second thought, I start dancing. Now, mind you, no one else in the room is dancing, but I just couldn’t resist. The music took control of my feet like they had a mind of their own! Honestly, how can anyone hear that song and not dance?
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t wait. Do it now.
What’s your favorite way to give back to the community? I volunteer at Cy-Fair Helping Hands and receive great joy from working with the Homeless.

I’m Shenette Prevo—wife, mom of six, and proud grandmother of one. With 20 years in project management, I’ve always thrived on structure, coordination, and execution. The structured side of event planning taps into my Type A personality, while seeing an event come to life taps into my creative Type B side.
In 2019, I founded Teacup Planning & Events ensuring seamless, unforgettable experiences for my clients. I recently celebrated my six-year business anniversary, a milestone I’m especially proud of. Stats show that most small event planning firms don’t make it past year three, and to still be thriving— especially after surviving a pandemic that shut down in-person gatherings—is an accomplishment I don’t take for granted!
Outside of work, I love hot tea, my five-year-old Lab mix, Jinx, and most importantly, my family and faith in God.
What’s your favorite “guilty pleasure”?
I’d love to say I actually try to resist my favorite snacks… but that would be a lie. I am a full-on snack lover—especially desserts. Right now, I’m obsessed with white powdered donuts, but my all-time favorite? Peach cobbler—heavy on the crust!I don’t fight my cravings—I use them as a reward system! If I finish a hard task or push through something I wasn’t excited about doing, I treat myself. It’s all about balance, right?
Who is the woman who inspires you most, and why?
Michelle Obama. Her poise and grace as First Lady captivated me. Through eight years in the global spotlight, she remained true to herself—humble, unwavering, and never letting critics see her sweat. Watching her definitely influenced both my marriage and my business. As a wife, she helped me practice patience and empathy with my husband—understanding what the world throws at him daily. In business, she taught me to show up with grace, no matter what’s happening behind the scenes.
Describe your last perfect day off.
My last perfect day off was my birthday, and let me tell you—it was glorious. I had the best burger and fries at Shandy’s in the Heights, and then I came home and took an uninterrupted 2.5hour nap. When I finally emerged, I was able to reset, plan my next moves, and get back into my normal routine with a clear mind. More than just physical rest, it gave me the mental clarity I needed to handle all the fires constantly burning around me.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Be fearless. Every obstacle, every setback—it’s all worth it. You are worth it. God loves you through every season, and He will never let you fail. I joke all the time that I did life backward—I had my children, then I got married..had a couple more children, then I earned my degree -- and then later in life, started my business. But looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. That path was mine to walk. Every step, even the unconventional ones, shapes who you’re meant to be. What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?
I love supporting my local ecosystem—small businesses, restaurants, and entrepreneurs—because they are the heartbeat of our community. One cause especially close to my heart is Letting Everyone Achieve Dreams (LEAD), a Houstonbased nonprofit that provides experiences and knowledge to kids in underserved areas, helping them see beyond their current circumstances. This mission resonates deeply with me because I was once that child.
OWNER/EVENT DIRECTOR, TEACUP PLANNING & EVENTS
DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS, CY-FAIR FIRE DEPARTMENT
Share a brief bio about yourself.
I serve as the marketing and community relations director for the Cy-Fair Fire Department. A University of Texas alumna, I began my career in Houston before embarking on a 20-year career stint in San Diego. Now back in my hometown, I lead initiatives to improve community engagement and public safety communications at Cy-Fair.
Beyond my professional role, I am a passionate Texas lifestyle blogger, sharing my love for local culture, lifestyle, and personal experiences. With my husband, Will, and our beloved shih-poo, Murphy, I enjoy exploring new destinations and appreciating the joys of travel and cuisine.
What’s your favorite “guilty pleasure”?
McDonald’s! A hot Big Mac meal—it sends me into a state of pure euphoria! I love to grab my food, find a quiet corner, and play games on my iPad like I don’t have a care in the world. Who is the woman who inspires you most, and why?
Oh, there are so many women I admire. This is a tough one! I have to give my mom a big shout-out here. She was a strong Texas woman at a time when being a strong woman wasn’t as acceptable! Her fingerprints are all over me.
Another woman who really stands out is Eleanor Roosevelt. I love her Book of Common Sense Etiquette. She believed that etiquette is rooted in kindness and consideration for others—not about following rigid rules, but about making people feel comfortable and valued. That resonates deeply with me. I want people to know what to expect and to feel at ease in any situation.
I would be remiss not to mention the women I have the pleasure of working with at Cy-Fair. From our leaders, Chief Amy Ramon and Commissioners Bevin Gordon and Naressa MacKinnon, to all the women who work on the front line every day in fire and EMS. Plus, we have amazing women leaders who serve in our community whom I learn from every single day.
Describe your last perfect day off.
I love to explore with my husband, Will. He’s not from Texas, so I really enjoy taking him on day trips to new places and showing him everything Texas has to offer. That said, we’re just as happy unwinding on our patio—sitting by the fire pit, talking about our day. One of my favorite moments is coming home, being greeted at the door with a sweet tea, and heading outside to relax and reconnect.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t get so locked into one career path that you ignore other opportunities. I was laser-focused on the corporate world for 30 years, working with the big boys like AT&T and Stewart Title. But when I came to Cy-Fair, I discovered a world I had never experienced before. At a time when so many people feel disconnected, investing in your community is an investment in yourself. It creates purpose, fosters belonging, and takes care of so many of life’s other challenges.
What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?
Nothing makes me happier than connecting with people. There’s no better conversation starter than being part of the fire department. It’s an instant bridge to people, a way to build relationships, and a reminder of why community matters so much.
DIRECTOR, CLUB Z! IN-HOME TUTORING OF CYPRESS, SPRING, KLEIN & TOMBALL
Share a brief bio about yourself.
Originally from Mumbai, India, I came here to pursue a Ph.D. in Stem Cell Biology. I worked as a scientist in a stem cell therapeutics company and also as an adjunct faculty for Biology at Lone Star College, CyFair. I am the Director of Club Z! In-Home Tutoring of Cypress, Spring, Klein & Tomball. I serve on the board of directors for the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce and for Shield Bearer Counseling Centers and Leadership North Houston program.
I met my husband, Tushar Patil at UT Austin, where we were both pursuing graduate studies. This July we will celebrate 20 years of marriage. Our son, Vihaan, is a sophomore at Cy-Ranch High School and is on their swim and water polo teams. We live in Cypress and have a dog named Zoey who is the sweetest girl and completes our family.
What’s your favorite “guilty pleasure”?
Traveling! We love to travel locally, nationally and internationally. Last year we visited the Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks during summer! It was packed with breathtaking views with unique topography and wild lifesuch a memorable trip! I say it is a guilty pleasure because I wish sometimes I could be omnipresent so I can travel and be present helping students at the same time!
Who is the woman who inspires you most, and why?
Starting from my mom, my sister, my mother-in-law, my friends, ladies I meet at various meetings! I feel each woman has something unique to offer-it could be intellect, fashion style, ability to have difficult conversations or take difficult decisions, be a fearless leader, have opinions, be there for others, lift each other up, give advice when asked, be humble!
Tell us about the last time you danced!
I love dancing! I dance whenever I get a chance! Recently, I participated in a group dance performance on stage for a local non-profit organization called Houston Maharashtra Mandal. The final performance was a huge hit but so were the rehearsals! From picking the music to costumes to photographs, we had a blast!
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t be afraid to try different types of food! I am a vegetarian, I feel if I had started eating meat and fish sooner, I wouldn’t have had the mental block today.
What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?
Serving the local schools in any capacity is my favorite way to be involved in the community! I volunteer at local CFISD schools for the bus buddy program. I have been invited as a speaker for the ‘Junior Achievement Program’ in several schools throughout Houston to lecture about various topics such as ‘research as a career choice’ or ‘woman in science’ or ‘woman entrepreneur’. Each year in January, I partner with a local non-profit organization and organize a donation drive at my home. My ladies group donates generously for the non-profits; be it cash, or items or volunteer hours, whatever the organization needs. To name a few, we have donated to Cypress Assistance Ministries, Cy-Fair Helping Hands, Shield Bearer Counseling Centers, BEAR-child services and Cy-Hope.

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Serenity Wellness and Counseling Center. My path into the mental health field has been both personal and purpose-driven, rooted in a deep understanding of trauma, healing, and the human spirit’s resilience.
Outside of the therapy room, I find peace and grounding in nature—working on our land, and spending time with our animals. I also love getting lost in a good book. Whether through therapy, community service, or simply living life with intention, my mission is the same: to help others reconnect with their authentic selves and find healing that lasts.
What’s your favorite “guilty pleasure”?
I find joy in immersing myself in nature. Activities such as boating, swimming, and tending to our property and animals provide me with a profound sense of relaxation and connection to the natural world.
Who is the woman who inspires you most, and why?
Throughout my life, I’ve been fortunate to have strong female role models who have profoundly influenced my personal and professional journey. As a child, my mother was my primary inspiration. Her empathy and dedication to helping others were evident through her volunteer work, especially with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Special Children’s Committee—a passion that my husband and I now share.
In recent years, I’ve found inspiration in Kelly Peyton, a fellow therapist and group practice owner. During a pivotal time in 2023, Kelly became a mentor. Her kindness and commitment to our field have profoundly influenced my approach, motivating me to mentor other clinicians and give back to our community. Our friendship continues to be a source of mutual support and inspiration in both our professional and personal lives.
Describe your last perfect day off.
Taking a genuine day off has been a learning experience for me. My most recent perfect day off was intentionally unplugged from all work communications. It involved simple pleasures: basking in the sun with a good book, enjoying moments of relaxation, and spending quality time with my husband, Bryan.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self that it’s not necessary to do it all. Success manifests in various forms, not solely through financial achievements—though early financial planning can alleviate future stress. Embracing self-compassion, setting healthy boundaries, and recognizing the importance of balance are essential lessons I’ve learned along the way.
What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?
My passion lies in facilitating healing through alternative modalities. At Serenity Wellness, we emphasize that true healing originates from within, offering services like EMDR, Neurofeedback, and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy to those who might not have access otherwise.
My husband and I are dedicated volunteers with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Special Children’s Committee, and we operate a nonprofit that contributes to the event’s World Championship BBQ Cook-Off. These endeavors allow us to connect with and support our community in meaningful and impactful ways.

I’ve served on the Cy-Fair ISD Board of Trustees since June of 2019, when I was appointed to a vacant Position 2. I was then elected to a four-year term in November 2019 and served as Vice President of the CFISD Board. In 2023 I was re-elected to the CFISD Board and am a strong advocate for public education.
In addition to my CFISD Global Volunteer duties, I also serve on the Cy-Hope Board of Directors. I’m a member of the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Cy-Fair League of Women Voters, Cy-FARE and Cy-Fair 100 Women Who Care.
A 20-year resident of CFISD, I live in Cypress with my husband of 30 years and I’m the mother of two daughters. My family and I are members of St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church where we serve on the vestry.
What’s your favorite “guilty pleasure”?
Staying at my college best friend’s beach house is my favorite guilty pleasure….really, it’s more like self-care. I love sitting outside in the sun, listening to the water, reading books, and spending time with my family. My family has many wonderful memories of spending time there together.
Who is the woman who inspires you most, and why?
Every day I am inspired by the women who are educational leaders in CFISD. I am inspired by the principals leading their campuses, directors managing their departments, assistant and associate superintendents guiding our district…all serve with intelligence, compassion, integrity, and dedication. These women leaders do great work while raising their own families, working on their own education goals, and supporting our students and employees.
Tell us about the last time you danced!
The last time I danced was at the CFISD first annual Field Day for our high school VITAL special education students held at the Langham Creek YMCA. I joined students, teachers, and paraprofessionals in doing the Electric Slide at the outdoor pavilion between games of kickball. What we may have lacked in coordination and rhythm, we made up for with enthusiasm and joy!
What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?
My favorite way to give back to the community is as a volunteer for Cy-Hope. I enjoy volunteering as a Cy-Hope Mentor weekly at one of our high schools, distributing food to families during one of our weekend food distribution events, attending Cy-Hope fundraising events, and serving on the board of directors. Cy-Hope’s mission is to make life better for kids in Cy-Fair and this mission means so much to me.

WE ASKED THE EXPERTS FOR THEIR BEST WATER SAFETY TIPS
ARTICLE BY LAURA SANCHEZQUAN
Many accidents occur in the presence of multiple adults who all assumed that someone else was watching the water.
Understanding how to swim and respond to water-related situations significantly reduces the risk of accidents. “The cornerstone of water safety is education,” says Katherine Tabeling of Goldfish Swim School. “By teaching children essential swimming skills and safety protocols, we empower them to navigate aquatic environments confidently and safely.”
Goldfish Swim School recommends the following: Be sure to check your surroundings. Always be aware of potential hazards like deep water, strong currents, or slippery pool decks. Designate a Water Guardian. Assign a responsible adult to actively supervise kids in the water at all times. Taking swim lessons year-round. Consistent practice helps reinforce skills, build confidence, and improve overall water safety.
Ashley Yates of British Swim School shares, “It’s important to remember there is no one singular thing that will make someone water-safe. It requires a multi-layered approach. At British Swim School they teach the Stop Drowning Now Safer 3 message, which is Safer Water, Safer Kids and Safer Response.
SAFER WATER.
Physical barriers that block access to water like a pool fence with a self-latching gate, removing toys from the water after swim time so that children are not tempted to re-enter the water
SAFER KIDS.
Children should ALWAYS be supervised by a responsible adult. Be intentional by using a Water Watcher Tag which helps adults identify who is on duty to watch the water avoiding lapse in supervision–and they can switch off every 15 minutes to keep fresh eyes on the pool at all times. Many accidents occur in the presence of multiple adults who all assumed that someone else was watching the water.
SAFER RESPONSE.
Adults should have a safety response plan including having a phone nearby to call for help if needed and ideally would be trained to administer CPR and First Aid if necessary. The quicker a drowning victim gets oxygen, the better their chances of survival.
Nobody is drown-proof but in order to help kids be safer in the water they should be taught how to float on their backs and how to safely enter and exit the water. Educating parents and kids alike is key, swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by up to 88% and can be started as young as three months old to teach them these life saving survival skills. Goldfish Swim School holds W.A.T.E.R. Safety Presentations where they offer free, interactive presentations focusing on water safety education for children aged three to seven. Throughout May, National Water Safety Month is celebrated by diving into their Safer Swimmer Pledge. Started this in 2021 to spread awareness about water safety and drowning prevention and to give back to the USA Swimming Foundation.
Unfortunately most drowning accidents occur when it is not time for swimming. “When swimming, many parents think that they are keeping their children safe by putting them in a flotation device when they go to the pool but that actually robs them of the opportunity to learn how to float”, says Ashley. “It gives them a false sense of security making them believe that they can swim when in reality it is the floatie doing the work, not the child. Ditch the floaties and teach them to float independently. The best thing that parents can do for their children is to get in the water with them and provide 1:1 touch supervision while they are learning to swim.”
Unsure when is the right time to get your children swim lessons? Right now! We have a lot of options here in Cypress, find the one that protects your family and helps you thrive.
Special Thanks to Goldfish Swimming School and British Swim School for lending their time and expertise.

Gain peace of mind with a whole home generator
Hurricane season in Texas officially kicks off in June and reaches its peak in August and September. While Houstonians are no stranger to hurricanes, power outages and blackouts are often random and unexpected. During severe weather or a hurricane, outages can last for several days and sometimes weeks. One way to add extra protection to your home or business when the power goes out is to install a home generator, which runs on natural gas or liquid propane that delivers backup power to the home’s electrical system.
Lacie Fridrich with Texas Elite Generators, Inc. shares the benefits of installing a generator and how to prepare it ahead of hurricane season.
“If you have a generator, it can prevent food from spoiling, provide air conditioning if it’s large enough, and supply power for medical equipment,” Fridrich said. “It can keep your cabinets from warping.”
ARTICLE BY KAYLEE DUSANG
For those who already own a home generator or recently installed one, Fridrich recommends double checking that there is enough fuel and oil for the generator so it can run as long as needed during an outage. Remember to check the oil and coolant levels every eight hours if the generator is continually running. Most generators sit outside the home like an air conditioning unit. Before a storm hits, Fridrich said to secure any loose items around your property, such as outdoor furniture, and remove any loose tree limbs to prevent damage to the home or generator. “Always be prepared well ahead of hurricane season,” Fridrich said. “Make sure your generator’s oil is at the correct level and that your battery is in good condition and providing the proper volts.”
While generators can help lower the risk of damage to your home from loss of power, Fridrich said it still requires repairs and yearly maintenance, like a car. “You will need to have the oil changed, spark plugs, air filter checked or replaced yearly,” she said. “Manufactures are even canceling warranties if you do not keep up with your maintenance on your generator. We offer two different maintenance plans to cater to everyone’s needs.”
Generators not only require time and maintenance, but there are different brands and varieties to choose
from. Fridrich recommends doing research on generator options before moving forward on the installation process. “Getting a generator installed in your home is not a one-day project, it can actually take months depending on your situation,” she said. “Generator installations require HOA approval, permits, an electrician, and a plumber and some require customers to get a larger gas meter.”
Texas Elite Generators specializes in installing residential and commercial generators of all brands for homes and businesses. They also provide both preventative maintenance and repair services, including 24/7 remote monitoring that can notify owners if the generator experiences a technical issue. “We can monitor your generator to make sure there are no issues before the storm hits,” Fridrich said.

“Ava has always been an old soul. Her maturity, level of responsibility and accountability, as well as compassion for others has been demonstrated since an early age,” said Jennifer Pringle Taylor, mother of Cypress-area superstar Ava Taylor. “She expects high results and achievements from herself, and when she sometimes doesn’t meet those, she gets back up and tackles it from a different angle.”
Ava began horseback riding at Little Bay Farm in Cypress at the age of six and has since represented the city in horseback riding competitions at the regional and national levels. Beyond riding, Ava works hard to balance her time between her interests and a rigorous honors and AP school schedule.
“Her dedication, compassion and work ethic make her so special,” remarked Jennifer. “School has always been her number one priority, followed closely by riding. Her ability to balance a challenging school course load alongside a rigorous training schedule is incredible.”
Her impressive list of competitive awards continues to grow. Most recently, she and her horse, Optimal Hastak, a Swedish Warmblood, were named Zone 7 Horse of the Year by United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) for the 2023-24 season for 1.10/1.15 meter jumper division. Zone 7 consists of Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Prior to becoming a horse jumper, Ava participated in the discipline called “horse eventing”. During her Freshman year, she qualified for and rode in the American Eventing Championships, where she finished 8th in the nation in her division.
To Mom Jennifer, Ava’s work ethic was evident early on. Ava attended school and then would go immediately to the barn to care for and ride her horse(s) five to six days a week for the past ten years. Ava also carved out time to help raise money for a good cause, as a freshman, she started a small business making cocoa bombs and cookies with half of her profits going towards a non-profit called The Laurel’s Army Foundation, which raises money for research at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. Following graduation, Ava plans to stay in Texas and study business at a Texas university.
“Ava’s finest qualities are her empathy, kindness, honesty and a strong work ethic,” added Jennifer. “She has always had a high level of care and compassion for others.”
Taekwondo Olympic Hopeful
“Since Taylor Jo was very young, she’s always given a hundred percent. As a toddler, she wasn’t a fan of dance class because the other kids weren’t listening,” said Crystal Gavin, mother of Cypress-area teen Taylor Jo Gavin. “I thought it was cute and funny at the time, but looking back, I think it was just the beginning of her personality coming out, she was a perfectionist very young.”
Taylor Jo began her career in Taekwondo at the age of six, under the instruction of Grand Master McCloskey at Young Brothers Taekwondo. She started competing in 2018 with Master De Los Reyes, and by 2023 had earned her 2nd Dan Black Belt and in late 2023, she joined the G-Force competition team at The Houston Center for Taekwondo to continue her Olympic Sparring career.
Taylor Jo has racked up a stunning seventeen medals and has earned impressive titles such 2025 US Open two-time gold-medalist, 2025 gold-medalist at the Canada Open, gold medalist at the USAT team trials, earning a spot on the World Cadet team representing the USA, and many other accolades. Her next goal? She’s looking for support to pursue her dreams to make the Olympic team in 2028.
“In addition to her medals, Taylor Jo is a distinguished honors student, maintaining grades while traveling throughout the US and the World,” says Crystal Gavin. “She’s representing the USA for the USA Taekwondo National Team and the AAU National Team. She’s ranked 9th in the world (winning 9 of the 10 registered fights, the 1 she lost was 3rd place).”
Taylor will represent the USA in May at Cadet Worlds in Fujairah UAE. This is the Olympic equivalent for her age in a non-Olympic year. Taylor Jo is part of team G-Force, which has a non-profit called G-Force Achieve that supports elite athletes. The goal of G-Force Achieve is to have four worldclass taekwondo athletes qualify for World and/or Olympic competition by 2028. Together with support from G-Force Achieve, family and from the community, Crystal is hopeful that they can take Taylor Jo to the Olympics.
“Taylor Jo is a leader always striving for excellence and will push her teammates. She has two very close teammates and friends with whom she trains daily,” added Crystal. “She is a highly confident young woman, particularly in the context of her sport. She exhibits a strong sense of self-assurance and executes with precision. I can remember when she earned her first gold medal in a large tournament, the grand prix in 2023 and the look on her face was like ‘I can do this’. And it was that moment that we realized that this was her calling. This was her thing.”
University of Texas at Austin Academic and Creative Excellence
“Even without formal training, she always exhibited an exceptional gift in her artistic endeavors,” said Bincy Binoj, Mother of Cypress-area phenom Bitiah Binoj. “Given any type of writing utensil and a sheet of paper, she would yearn to create with stunningly unexpected results.”
Bitiah’s talents extend far beyond her creative pursuits. With a list of awards and accolades as long as the day, Binoj boasts a stellar combination of strong academic achievements, diverse leadership experiences, active involvement in extracurricular activities and community service, and a demonstrated capacity for embracing new challenges.
Bitiah was recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program with a Letter of Commendation and received the AP Scholar Award. In addition to academic excellence, Bitiah has extensive extracurricular and leadership positions including Integration Manager for NASA High School Aerospace Scholars, President and Vice President of the Art Club, Leader of the Mural Committee, and Historian for the National English Honors Society. She has also participated in STEM-related programs like NASA High School Aerospace Scholars and the University of Texas’ My Introduction To Engineering.
“Bitiah has actively engaged in various community service activities,” remarked Bincy. “These include volunteering at her church, participating in environmental cleanup initiatives with the Cy-Ranch Ecological Alliance, contributing to the Cypress Ranch Mural Committee, and bringing joy to others through the Music Therapy Club and Art Club.”
Her leadership and academic successes are matched by her artistic abilities and talents, and she’s earned accolades for her craft. She won 1st place in the Pearl Fincher High School Division and was a two-time Gold Medalist at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Program, with two of her pieces auctioned at price. Additionally, she was selected to be featured on the CFISD Visual and Performing Arts Center Billboard and received multiple Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. She’s a National Champion in Visual Design for the FBLA National Leadership Conference as well as first place for Graphic Design at the Texas State Conference. Bitiah is also a great stage performer and has participated in many live musical and theatrical performances, in addition to pursuing her love of playing drums. Bitiah is currently pursuing a degree in Engineering at University of Texas in Austin.
“Bitiah’s finest qualities include her exceptional academic aptitude, strong leadership skills, significant artistic talent and recognition, dedication to community service, and a remarkable capacity for personal growth and adaptability,” said Bincy.

Flowers have a rich history of symbolic meanings. As far back as the 19th century, they were used to convey secret messages. Stories throughout history recount how flowers were used to send hidden messages between people. French publishers began producing flower dictionaries that cataloged the many floral codes that had been gathered over time. Some of these meanings were linked to the flower’s root name, often derived from mythology, while others were drawn from the flowers themselves. The colors, medicinal properties, and even the superstitions
associated with these flowers all contributed to the creation of this secret language.
In addition to their symbolic significance, flowers bring natural beauty to any interior, enhancing spaces with their color, texture, and mood-boosting qualities. Floral arrangements not only create a cozy atmosphere but also infuse a room with personality, elevating the overall ambiance. There are multiple ways to creatively integrate florals into your home, and whether using fresh or artificial flowers, creative displays can make quite the statement piece.
“Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.”
Add an extra burst of color and texture to your floral arrangement by layering fruit around the edges of your vase. To achieve this, place a smaller vase inside a larger one, ensuring the flowers stay contained in the inner vase to preserve their shape. Fill the surrounding space with water and then arrange sliced fruit along the vase’s outer sides. For a fresh touch, add ice cubes to keep the fruit looking vibrant longer and to hold them in place. Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.
For a dramatic effect, try creating a hanging floral display. Floral cones are available for this style, or you can craft your own for a more personalized, organic look. The contrast between longstemmed white flowers and a dark wall creates a striking visual impact.
No matter how you choose to display them, flowers are a wonderful addition to any room. They boost mood, improve air quality, spark creativity, and bring a decorative charm to any space.
Using a frog to display flowers creates a minimalist yet elegant look that highlights the individuality of each bloom. It helps the stems stay in place. To set it up, place the frog on your chosen display base, whether it’s a vase, bowl, platter, or any container you prefer. Then, simply insert the flower stems by gently pressing them into the prongs. Tip: Flowers with sturdy stems and a lighter top work best in a frog, as delicate blooms tend to lose their shape more quickly.
