In our Conejo Valley and Santa Rosa Valley communities most of our attention regarding “style” is on our home. While almost everyone dresses quite well, we are not a hyper fashionista-focused place like Paris, New York or even Los Angeles. The distance between us and La La Land may not be far, but culturally we are pretty far apart. The “style” that concerns us the most is what takes place in our homes…inside and outside.
If I look back on what attracted Robin and me to want to live in the Conejo Valley when we moved here 20 years ago, it was the natural beauty that still surrounds us and the way our cities and neighborhoods have been built out without creating too much congestion and pollution so common to much of Southern California. I lived in South Orange County for many years. When I moved there, it was similar to the Conejo Valley—not anymore. I am happy to be here.
Our homes are often a reflection of the overall zeitgeist of the community. Not necessarily the particular type of décor or outdoor landscape or hardscape, but simply the care and love that has gone into it. If we love the environment and the community in which we live, it makes it easy and enjoyable to invest and continually improve the personal space in which we live: our home.
Cat in a Hammock, Holly Viane Interiors, The Sofa Guy and State Restoration take us on a style tour of new ideas and opportunities for your home. At Conejo Valley Lifestyle we have also expanded our social media presence on Facebook and Instagram. There you can find articles from Turf & Paver Exchange, Aldik Home, Milben Construction, First Choice Painting and the beautiful homes represented by the amazing Rosemary Allison.
We also thought it would be nice for you to discover Ilene’s Boutique for some of the most beautiful style in women’s clothing. Ilene has been tucked away in North Ranch for “only” 34 years. What took you so long to find her?

“We manage every detail in-house: engineering, permitting, materials, project management and of course, the build.”
Designing beautiful spaces that reflect the unique style and function of every family inspires Kristina Jones, who founded Cat in a Hammock to do just that.
Kristina’s full-service design and construction firm has the expertise to bring clients’ visions to life, from the initial glimmer of an idea to the final touches of the completed project.
“I especially love when clients share how their new backyard has changed their everyday life. It’s no longer just a yard—it’s a sanctuary, a gathering place, an extension of their home. That’s deeply rewarding,” shares Kristina, noting that creating the ideal space starts with inspiration.
“I always recommend that clients explore Pinterest, Houzz or even pull pages from magazines. It costs nothing to start dreaming. Don’t worry about whether it fits your space or your budget just yet—this is your time to gather visual ideas that stir something in you. Think of it as building a mood board for your lifestyle: textures, colors, garden moments, architectural elements. Give yourself the freedom to explore without editing. That’s where the magic begins,” says Kristina, who finds her own source of inspiration in natural settings.
“Botanical gardens have always been a wellspring of inspiration for me. Whether it's Lotusland, Descanso Gardens or a tucked-away estate abroad, I make it a point to observe how nature is framed, layered and allowed to speak,” she says, adding, “I recently visited Casa del Herrero in Montecito to refill my creative well. I love blending classical and modern influences— creating spaces that feel rooted in tradition, yet fresh and relevant.”
Meeting with clients to discuss their goals enables Cat in a Hammock to formulate a well-designed plan.
“Our consultations are deeply personal and tailored to each family,” explains Kristina. “We begin by
exploring lifestyle—how our clients live, entertain, relax and connect at home. Are there children or pets? Do they host large gatherings or prefer an intimate retreat? This discovery shapes the functionality of the space before we even touch the design.”
The next step involves the artistic elements: “We then begin layering in aesthetics—materials, mood and color palettes that speak to the home’s architecture and the client’s taste. Many clients share inspiration boards they’ve curated over time, and it becomes a collaborative design conversation,” shares Kristina. Once a realistic budget is set—"we help prioritize features, select premium materials strategically, and craft a plan that reflects value and intention”— the design phase begins, transforming vision into detailed 3D renderings.
“We manage every detail in-house: engineering, permitting, materials, project management and of course, the build itself. It’s a full-service experience with a single point of contact from concept to completion,” she says, noting her satisfaction with a job well done.
“Each phase brings its own joy. The design process is imaginative and intimate, the build phase is tangible and gratifying, and the final reveal is where it all comes full circle.”
Kristina invites homeowners to explore how Cat in a Hammock can add style and elegance to enhance their home and lifestyle.
“We’re more than a design-build firm—we're storytellers of outdoor living. We care deeply about our clients’ experience, and we’re here to create timeless, soulful spaces that elevate how they live,” says Kristina. “Beauty matters, but it’s how a space makes you feel—and how it supports the way you live—that makes it meaningful.”

Nestled in the heart of Westlake Village just off Hampshire Road, State Restoration Inc. has been a trusted name in the community for over 25 years. What began as a dedicated restoration company has evolved into one of the area’s premier remodeling firms, bringing inspired design and meticulous craftsmanship to countless homes. Family owned and operated by Darlene and Doug Kimbell, State Restoration is committed to creating spaces that elevate daily living and stand the test of time. Stepping into their stunning showroom unlike anything else in the region, clients discover what becomes possible when experience, passion and creativity combine. Whether you are dreaming of a refined kitchen, a serene bathroom retreat or a full home transformation, State Restoration welcomes you to call and arrange a tour to explore the remarkable materials, fixtures and finishes they offer.
One of the company’s recent projects, featured here, perfectly illustrates the vision and expertise that set State Restoration apart. Located in a Moorpark home built with traditional finishes common to the area, this master bathroom was ready for reinvention. The original space was dominated by white tiled countertops, orange-toned cabinetry, a framed shower and a drop-in tub clad in builder-grade 4x4 tile. While functional, these materials felt dated and required significant upkeep.

Today, the bathroom has become a sanctuary of modern elegance, designed for effortless maintenance and lasting beauty. The freestanding soaking tub immediately draws the eye, with its sculptural silhouette positioned beneath an arched window that fills the room with natural light. A sleek floormounted tub filler adds a sophisticated touch, blending form and function.
The adjacent walk-in shower has been transformed with frameless glass, creating a seamless flow and amplifying the sense of space. Largeformat porcelain tiles with soft veining wrap the walls, delivering the luxurious look of marble without the demanding maintenance. Two built-in niches offer convenient storage for bath essentials, maintaining the uncluttered feel.
The shower itself features a contemporary rain showerhead complemented by a handheld sprayer, offering a spa-like experience every day. A discreet linear drain integrates into the floor, while slip-resistant surfaces ensure safety without compromising style.
flawless execution. Understated recessed lighting, high-quality fixtures and clean lines combine to create a bathroom that feels timeless yet current, an inviting space that will remain beautiful for decades to come.
At State Restoration Inc., no detail is too small. Every project is approached with care, clear communication and a commitment to exceeding client expectations. Darlene and Doug Kimbell take pride in guiding homeowners through each step of the remodeling process, from initial consultation to the final reveal. This hands-on, personalized approach has earned the company a reputation for exceptional work and lasting relationships.

Opposite the bathing area, a spacious double vanity showcases warm natural wood cabinetry that balances the cool elegance of the tile. Generous drawers and cabinets provide ample storage, while polished hardware and smooth quartz countertops create a crisp, refined finish. A full-wall mirror visually expands the space, reflecting soft lighting and the serene palette.

With a keen eye for detail and a passion for design, Holly transforms homes into stunning, timeless spaces that reflect your unique style. From concept to completion, experience exceptional design that elevates everyday living.
At Holly Viane Interiors, Inc., the belief is simple yet powerful: A home should not only look beautiful—it should feel like you . Specializing in high-end residential design, this boutique firm transforms ordinary spaces into warm, personal sanctuaries that reflect the people who live in them. Every detail, from the cabinetry finish to the fabric on a throw pillow, is chosen with intention and care. For Founder and Principal Designer Holly Viane, thoughtful design isn’t just about style—it’s about creating comfort, functionality and a sense of belonging.
Whether starting with a new build or breathing life into a dated room, Holly and her team approach each project with a fresh perspective. They balance aesthetic excellence with practical solutions, crafting environments that support the daily rhythms of their clients’ lives. The firm’s signature style leans toward timeless elegance, layered textures, curated materials and clean lines but always leaves room for personal touches that make a space feel truly lived in.
One of the distinguishing elements of Holly Viane Interiors is its focus on high-quality finishes. These details, whether a custom oak cabinet, hand-troweled plaster walls or tailor-made marble countertops, are the foundation of a well-designed home. Holly believes that materials matter.
“Quality finishes are what take a space from builder-basic to beautifully customized,” she says. “They elevate the everyday experience. When your hand grazes a honed stone countertop or your feet step onto wide-plank hardwood floors, it feels different.”
That tactile experience is at the heart of Holly's process. Her studio is deeply collaborative, often working closely with artisans, contractors and tradespeople to bring her vision to life. She believes in quality over quantity, ensuring that each project receives the attention it deserves. Whether she's guiding a young family through their first renovation or helping longtime homeowners reimagine their forever home, Holly prioritizes craftsmanship, comfort and timeless appeal.
Clients often praise the firm’s ability to interpret their vision even when they can’t fully articulate it themselves. Holly has a keen eye for layering materials and finishes in ways that feel intuitive, cohesive and personal. A kitchen isn’t just a kitchen; it’s where children do homework at the counter while dinner simmers. A bathroom isn’t just a bathroom; it’s a retreat at the end of a long day. Through a thoughtful blend of form and function, she helps clients see not just what a space can look like, but how it can feel .
Beyond the finishes and furnishings, what sets Holly Viane Interiors apart is a genuine love for the process of making a house a home. The team is known for being responsive, communicative and easy to work with—qualities that clients value as much as the stunning end results.
As the firm continues to grow, one thing remains constant: a commitment to beautiful, livable design made possible through refined finishes and heartfelt collaboration. Because at Holly Viane Interiors, a house isn't complete until it feels like home.

California Dance Theatre, in the heart of Westlake Village, proudly celebrates its 40th season of inspiring dancers across the greater Conejo Valley. Since opening its doors in 1985, the studio has remained a cornerstone of the local arts community—an enduring space where creativity, discipline and joy come to life through movement.
Founded by Joyce Hurley, her daughter Kim Maselli and fellow dance artist Lori Sorensen, California Dance Theatre was born from a shared vision: to cultivate excellence in dance while nurturing the individual. Drawing on their collective experience as professional performers and educators, the three women set out to create more than a dance school—they envisioned a second home for young dancers, a vibrant space where talent and character could flourish in equal measure.
From the beginning, California Dance Theatre (CDT) quickly gained recognition for its outstanding faculty and world-class instruction. Offering training in an impressive range of styles—from classical ballet and jazz to hip hop, tap, acro, contemporary and even aerial arts—the studio welcomes students of all ages and skill levels, from recreational beginners to aspiring professionals. Over 4 decades, CDT has served thousands of dancers, some of whom have gone on to careers in professional dance companies, Broadway, film, television and major universities.
At its core, CDT remains a family-run business, and that familial spirit runs deep. The studio’s roster of teachers includes longtime faculty members— many of whom have taught at CDT for over 20 years—as well as generations
“I love that our studio still has a feeling of family after so many years. Some of our teachers have been with us for decades. We all share a genuine love for dance and for the young artists we serve.”
of dancers returning as instructors. It’s not uncommon to find mother-daughter pairs, siblings or even twins on staff. This intergenerational connection reinforces the deep sense of belonging that defines the studio culture.
“I love that our studio still has a feeling of family after so many years,” shares Artistic Director Kim Maselli. “Some of our teachers have been with us for decades. We all share a genuine love for dance and for the young artists we serve. It’s especially touching to see former students come back with their own children—continuing the legacy of dance through a new generation.”
A defining feature of CDT’s curriculum is its implementation of the American Ballet Theatre® National Training Curriculum, a comprehensive, six-level program designed to promote both technical excellence and dancer health. This approach ensures that students receive strong foundational training while learning to respect their bodies and develop longevity in the art form. Dancers in the upper levels have the opportunity to audition and perform with Pacific Festival Ballet (PFB), CDT’s affiliated nonprofit resident company at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center. Productions like “The Nutcracker”
and “Cinderella”have become annual community traditions, giving young dancers the extraordinary chance to share the stage with international ballet stars.
While ballet is a strong foundation at CDT, the studio is equally committed to a wide variety of dance styles. From tap and lyrical to acro and musical theatre, students are encouraged to explore all avenues of movement. More than just a training ground, CDT is a performance hub, with opportunities including seasonal recitals, outreach performances and community events that help students gain confidence and stage presence while building lasting friendships.
As CDT reflects on its 40-year journey, it does so with gratitude and excitement for the future. In celebration of this milestone, the studio invites community members of all ages—from 3 to 73— to experience the joy of dance through a free trial class. Whether you’re stepping into the studio for the first time or returning after many years away, CDT welcomes you with open arms.

As the owners of The Sofa Guy, Paul and Holly Trent provide a long-lasting, extraordinary experience for clients in a warm, friendly and knowledgeable environment.
“What makes us unique is our attention to our clients’ comfort and design needs,” says Paul, whose business has been established for more than 2 decades.
“It’s not one size fits all,” Paul emphasizes.
“We spend a lot of time in our showroom helping our clients find their unique comfort. It may be back pitch, firmness or softness, seat depth or seat height. Our showroom has many different styles and variety of cushions that we use as tools, moving them from frame to frame if necessary. Once we have their unique comfort, configuring pieces in the space is easy.”
Paul and Holly started the family-owned business with custom sofas and have evolved into a local interior design team that helps clients furnish their entire home—or homes, in some cases.
Located at 2520 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., “our space is filled with beautiful pieces from all our vendors, as well as our own custom upholstery,” he says. In this space, “we are passionate about serving, helping and

solving problems. We have been doing it for 20 years with upholstery, so why not do it with all aspects of the home?”
One of the most popular services they offer is the old-fashioned house call. This service guarantees that any piece they make will actually fit the space.
“It gives us and our clients peace of mind knowing that the configuration they order will fit perfectly into their home,” Paul explains. “Often our clients need help with their complete rooms or their entire home, and we have all the amazing design resources to fulfill their needs.”
Flashback to 1996, when the Trent couple opened their first furniture store with a business partner in Venice Beach called Philip Paul Designs. From the original store in Venice Beach, they changed their name to Welcome Home Interiors.
“When we described what we do, people would say, ‘Oh the Sofa Guy! My neighbor just bought a sectional from you guys…or something similar,” Paul recalls. “We got that so often we finally gave in. We figured it’s simple, memorable and a little goofy. We embraced the moniker and today we are The Sofa Guy Inc.”
The Trent couple moved their business to Thousand Oaks in 2003.
“I actually started out of my garage,” Paul remembers. “I would go to clients’ homes with fabrics and pictures, have my guys build the pieces, and then personally delivered them in my pick-up truck.”
They have since moved the business out of the house and into the Westlake Design Center, and in 2013, they made their big move to Thousand Oaks Boulevard.
“We hope to be able to add more stores in the future and continue to serve the Conejo Valley,” Paul says.
Placing their clients’ needs first, they consistently strive to deliver exceptional customer service and furnishings of the highest quality.
“It’s really not about the sale; I mean yes, we need sales to survive, but really, we want the experience to be a joyful process without any pressure,” Paul adds. “Our showroom is set up to feel relaxed and comfortable; our staff often welcomes you with ‘make yourself at home’…hopefully, bringing just a little peace to this over-anxious world of ours.”

Scars, whether from surgery, burns, or accidents, can affect self-image. Thanks to the services offered by industry professional Monica DiPrimeo, you don’t have to live with unsightly scars. Serving clients from Orange County to Santa Barbara, Monica specializes in diminishing the visibility of scars with various camouflaging techniques.
“I specialize in medical scar camouflage,” says Monica, who founded The Blend Beyond after 20 years of working with plastic surgeons and dermatologists. “These services deliver life-changing results and transform the way people feel about themselves,” she notes.
Here, we asked Monica to share more about her transformative services.
What techniques are used to camouflage scars?
I camouflage scars through a process called micropigmentation, which uses permanent makeup to match skin tone and leave a natural-looking result. I also use other techniques,
“I specialize in medical scar camouflage. These services deliver life-changing results and transform the way people feel about themselves.”
including inkless camouflage to treat stretch marks and scars using serum. Scalp micropigmentation involves inserting pigments into the skin to achieve a fuller hairline. And microchanneling employs an infusion of growth factors to renew and accelerate healing and improve the skin’s texture and overall appearance.
How did you get started in this field?
I started as a technician in the operating room and have worked for more than 2 decades with plastic surgeons and dermatologists, so I know what the options are and exactly how to treat scars. Over time, the pigments and techniques have gotten better and better, and the colors are more natural. I’m glad I’m in this field, because we get great results!
How did you learn these specific techniques?
I obtained training in stretch mark removal and scar camouflage at Twenty2 Institute. I learned microblading at Omnia Studio Academy, and I learned scalp micropigmentation at Picasso Academy. I am Board certified, and I’m always learning, keeping abreast of updates and improvements in the various techniques.
How long does it take to camouflage scars?
I recommend three treatments to get the best results. On average, each treatment takes 1-2 hours with 4-6 weeks between treatments. The final results may take up to 4 months.
What is the average cost of these services?
Depending on the size and specifics of the scar, most treatments start in the range of $350.
How long do the results last? Results typically last for 3-5 years.
Are you offering any specials?
Readers can mention this article to receive 20% off their first treatment. Talk to us about how we can provide you with life-changing procedures and address your needs.

Audiology is undergoing a quiet revolution—where healthcare and cutting-edge technology are converging to not only improve how we hear, but how we live. For decades, hearing aids were seen as simple amplifiers, designed to make everything louder for those with hearing loss. But hearing is about more than volume. Untreated hearing loss is now linked to a range of serious health concerns, including dementia, depression, social isolation and balance problems.
As our understanding of hearing health deepens, the tools we use to protect it are evolving. One of the most transformative developments in recent years is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into hearing devices. Modern AI-powered hearing
aids do more than amplify sound—they learn from the wearer’s environment and adjust automatically in real time. Whether someone is in a noisy restaurant or a quiet living room, AI can distinguish between speech and background noise, reducing listening fatigue and making communication easier and more natural.
This kind of smart processing doesn’t just improve hearing—it supports mental and emotional well-being by helping users stay connected and engaged. Some advanced hearing aids now even feature fall detection and activity tracking, acting as general health monitors in addition to hearing solutions.
Smartphone apps are also changing how people manage their hearing care. Many allow users to fine-tune their devices, track listening environments and even perform basic hearing checkups without a clinic visit. These tools empower users to take control of their auditory health, encouraging a more personalized and accessible model of care. For those managing tinnitus, some apps offer sound therapy or calming audio environments, providing both immediate relief and ongoing support.
Importantly, these digital tools are making hearing health more approachable, especially for younger users or those experiencing early signs of hearing difficulties who might not yet qualify for traditional hearing aids. By offering early support and self-guided tools, the barriers to care are beginning to break down.
Tele-audiology is another major step forward in making care more accessible. With remote programming and virtual consultations, patients—especially older adults or those in rural areas— can receive expert adjustments and follow-ups without leaving home. As digital platforms become more sophisticated, remote care may soon include comprehensive hearing assessments and auditory training programs, bringing high-quality services to anyone with internet access.
Looking to the future, hearing aids may play an even greater role in overall health monitoring. Emerging technologies suggest that biometric sensors could soon be built into hearing devices to track heart rate, temperature and even early signs of neurological change. AI models might one day detect subtle shifts in auditory patterns that signal broader health issues, allowing for earlier intervention across multiple conditions.
Some of the latest hearing platforms already use dual-processing systems that analyze speech and background sounds separately in real time, allowing wearers to stay engaged in conversation without losing awareness of their surroundings. Other innovations
include self-voice recognition, which adjusts how users hear their own voice, reducing discomfort, especially for new users.
These breakthroughs are not just about improving sound clarity. They help reduce cognitive load, sharpen mental focus and support brain health. By making hearing aids smarter, more intuitive and more aligned with individual needs, AI is helping more people address hearing loss earlier, before it affects their mental, cognitive or emotional health.
Ultimately, the fusion of AI, apps and smart devices is redefining what hearing care looks like. Audiology is shifting from a reactive model—treating hearing loss once it's severe—to a proactive, holistic approach that views hearing as central to overall well-being. The challenge now is to ensure these innovations remain accessible, affordable and focused on the human experience, so that everyone, regardless of age or tech comfort, can benefit from a healthier way to hear and to live.
Dr. Roya Razin is an audiologist at Conejo Hearing Center, specializing in the intervention and treatment of tinnitus, as well as aural rehabilitation and the use of advanced hearing technologies. Conejo Hearing Center is located at 699 Hampshire Road, Suite 215 in Westlake Village. For more information, call 818.991.3800 or visit ConejoHearingCenter.com.
INthis unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression.
As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors.
Although we tend to consider cost-per-wear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture for the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space.
The woman who wears a blazer with sharp shoulders that makes her feel powerful in her everyday life—or the black dress that gives her a necessary boost of confidence—may naturally gravitate toward sleek, modern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives.
In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble—like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans—may also look for home pieces that are functional and make their guests feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory.
Just as we carefully choose outfits to express ourselves, it’s equally important to ensure that our living spaces are designed

with the same intention. More than ever, modern buyers are making purchasing decisions based on personal morals and values, forming a new wave of consumers who seek products that are both high-quality and environmentally or socially conscious, whether for themselves or their homes.
The following imagery affirms that living a timeless lifestyle across all aspects of life is possible through the thoughtful styling of sustainable clothing and vintage furniture. As the modern retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s become increasingly vital to make conscious consumer choices—ones that allow us to express our truest selves through both our wardrobes and the places we call home.

Style isn’t about what the magazines say or what the trends dictate—it’s about how you feel when you walk out the door. Your style should speak before you even say a word. It’s a reflection of your personality, confidence and spirit.
As a radio host and business mentor, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when someone walks into a room owning their look. And not just in business—but in life. Whether I’m hosting one of my mixers or just grabbing coffee, I want what I wear to reflect who I am: bold, warm and ready to connect. For me, that means embracing color—hello, hot pink!—a little sparkle and clothes that make me feel alive. I’m not only dressing to impress; I’m dressing to express. Whether it’s a blazer that makes me feel sharp or a comfy dress that flows with my energy, it’s all about alignment. Style should never feel like a costume. It should feel like coming home to yourself.
You don’t need a closet full of designer labels to look amazing. Some of my favorite outfits are a mix of high-low pieces that simply make me feel good. And guess what? That confidence shows.
So here’s my tip: Don’t save the good stuff for “someday.” Wear it now. Put on the earrings you love. Rock the lipstick that makes you feel fierce. Life isn’t a dress rehearsal—this is your moment, every day, to show up and Rock!
Your style is your personal brand. Let it reflect your journey, your joy and your uniqueness. Because the best thing you can ever wear is confidence— and that never goes out of fashion. Be bold. Be bright. Be beautifully YOU.
