Style Issue Growing up with eight older siblings, I wore what fit, and if it didn’t, I rolled the sleeves and hoped for the best. Fashion wasn’t really on my radar. These days, I’m trying to catch up… with mixed results. Thankfully, this month’s Style Issue is full of people who do know what they’re doing. Let’s start with Steven Milkovich. From the moment I met him, I liked him. He’s a go-getter who knows the Maple Grove market inside and out. When I checked his stats before inviting him into the magazine, I was impressed. Homes sold fast and at great prices. His guide to local architectural styles shows just how much personality is built into the homes we walk by every day. Then there’s Brian Thole of Blue Line Exteriors. Meeting Brian and his wife was a highlight. He clearly takes pride in his work. His business has that sweet spot of experience and scale, big enough to handle anything, small enough that he’s still on-site making sure the work is done right. I’ve worked with Nelia Ivanova since before the magazine launched. Her story is powerful, and her creativity is remarkable. If dealing with a storm damage claim feels like a full-time job, Brian Thole is someone you’ll be glad to have on your side. As the owner of Blue Line Exteriors, Brian helps homeowners navigate repairs with clear communication, steady guidance, and a strong sense of follow-through based on years of real-world experience.

HOW DID BLUE LINE EXTERIORS GET ITS START, AND WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM?

Blue Line Exteriors started because I saw a need for a different approach. After years of working with large contractors, I noticed how often homeowners were treated like just another job. Highpressure sales and confusing processes made things harder than they needed to be. I wanted to create a company where people felt heard, respected, and taken care of. The name “Blue Line” is personal. I’m a former police officer and retired Military Police Officer with 23 years in the U.S. Army. The name reflects my background in service and my commitment to protecting what matters most: your home.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO THE EXTERIOR REMODELING BUSINESS?

I’ve always liked working with my hands. I studied carpentry in high school and enjoyed the craft from the beginning. Over time, that interest grew into remodeling, where I found a real connection to helping people improve their homes. There’s something rewarding about taking a space that’s damaged or worn and helping bring it back to life with honest, practical work.

WHAT TYPES OF EXTERIOR SERVICES DO YOU SPECIALIZE IN?

We handle most exterior work: roofing, siding, windows, soffit and fascia, gutters, and garage doors. But my focus is on insurance restoration. I understand the process well and work closely with homeowners to make sure they get what their policy allows. A lot of people end up underpaid or overwhelmed, and I try to help take the stress out of that.

WHAT SETS BLUE LINE EXTERIORS APART FROM OTHER COMPANIES IN THE AREA?

One point of contact. I’m there from the first meeting through the final walkthrough. I manage the project myself, handling insurance, materials, scheduling, and any questions that come up. That kind of consistency makes things easier for homeowners and helps avoid miscommunication. It also builds stronger working relationships along the way.

WHAT’S A RECENT PROJECT YOU’RE ESPECIALLY PROUD OF, AND WHY?

I worked on three homes where insurance had denied claims, even though the damage was pretty clear. I spent close to two years gathering photos, documents, and other details. When it

finally went to appraisal, all three claims were approved in less than 20 minutes. It felt good to see it through and know the homeowners got what they were owed.

HOW HAS THE MAPLE GROVE COMMUNITY SUPPORTED YOUR BUSINESS, AND HOW DO YOU GIVE BACK?

Maple Grove has been great. My first job in the area led to several more just through word of mouth. One neighborhood grew from three homes to over twenty. That kind of support means a lot. As for giving back, I quietly help out military and first responder families when I can. Sometimes that means offering work at no cost. A lot of them won’t ask for help, but I know what they’ve given. It’s a small way to show appreciation. At the end of the day, Blue Line Exteriors is about doing right by people. AMY SEEMAN If fall fashion had a motto this year, it would be: the bolder, the better. From vintage fur to buttery suede, texture is having a major moment, and I’m fully embracing it. Let’s start with fur. Faux, vintage, cropped, full-length, even fur footwear. It’s showing up everywhere. My favorite way to wear it is tossed over a matching sweat set with a ball cap. It gives relaxed energy with just the right amount of drama. Minnesota winters are long, cold, and dark. Sometimes, fashion is the little spark that gets you through it. Here’s your reminder: you need more than one coat. Of course, you need a practical one, but you also deserve the colorful one, the oversized one, the one that turns heads. And please, don’t wait for a special occasion. Wear it to drop the kids at school, run errands, or grab coffee. Life itself is the occasion. Suede is also sneaking into fall wardrobes in a big way. It’s the perfect in-between fabric. Structured but soft. I’m loving the idea of a suede bomber paired with a fancy midi skirt or dressed down with a tee and slouchy denim. Either way, it brings effortless polish. Coach is also making a quiet comeback. Their reimagined classics deserve another look, especially the rectangle shoulder bags. One in particular has my heart and might soon land in my closet. Try swapping your bulky scarf for a sweater drape. Wear it over your shoulders or across your coat for a chic, cozy update. The “double sweater” is my favorite look. Wear one, drape one. This fall, don’t just get dressed. Have fun with it. Layer up. Be bold. INGREDIENTS • 1 1/2 oz- Cucumber & dragon fruit gin • 3/4oz- Toasted black sesame Velvet Falernum • 1/2oz- Lime juice • Topped with ginger beer • Hawaiian black lava salt & black sesame

GARNISH • Small paint brush • Simple syrup • Hawaiian black lava salt mixed with a pinch of black sesame

INSTRUCTIONS Infused Gin: Infuse 1 whole peeled and cut cucumber in gin for a week. Strain the cucumbers out. Add 1 tablespoon of organic dragonfruit powder and mix very well with a whisk. To make the syrup, toast 1/2 cup of black sesame at 350 for 10 minutes. Take it out and let it cool. In a mortar and pestle, grind the toasted black sesame, but not too fine. Add the sesame into one bottle of John D. Taylor’s Velvet Falernum. Let that set for about 2 to 3 days and use cheese cloth to strain out the fine bits of sesame. Juice one fresh lime and strain to remove the pulp.

Cocktail: Paint a strip of simple syrup down a Collins glass. Take a spoon full of Hawaiian black lava salt mixed with black sesame and layer that down where the painted simple syrup was placed. In a shaker tin combine: 1 1/2oz cucumber dragon fruit gin, 3/4oz toasted black sesame Velvet Falernum, and 1/2oz lime juice and shake that up! Fill the painted glass with ice (I use crushed ice) and strain over the ice. Top with your favorite ginger beer (my choice is Fever Tree ginger beer).
