The Style Issue

Dear Reader,

I hope this letter finds you in high spirits and full of creative energy.

Today, I want to celebrate the fascinating world of style. Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style permeates every facet of our existence. It is the thread that weaves together the tapestry of our lives.

Style is deeply personal. It evolves as we celebrate our quirks, passions, and desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world, and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, enabling us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.

As individuals, we have the freedom to embrace established styles, blend them together, or forge entirely new paths, becoming trendsetters ourselves. We hope this issue inspires you to forge new paths or perhaps explore familiar ones. There is so much here in Brentwood to uplift our spirits, boost our productivity, and ignite our creativity.

What I’ve found is that the best style is an authentic expression of who you really are. And that’s something no one on earth can duplicate. So, I encourage you to embrace your unique style and let it shine.

Here’s to being uniquely you!

NURTURING NASHVILLE’S creative talent

The

Nashville Fashion Forward Fund Is Inspiring The City’s Next Generation Of Fashion Influencers

At its core, Nashville is a creative community. Creatives are the source of the city’s energy. They are its beacon to the rest of the world.

That creative spirit now extends to the fashion industry. Over the last quarter century, Nashville has taken a position alongside the world’s leading fashion centers. From design and manufacturing, to corporate and retail and from trade shows to education, if it’s happening in fashion, it’s happening in Nashville. “Everyone wants a piece of the Nashville fabric,” says Marcia Masulla, a communications strategist, brand builder and the co-founder and managing director of Nashville Fashion Week. “The key is to balance all this growth by offering viable resources and opportunities for Nashville’s talent pool of designers, stylists, retailers, models, hair and makeup artists, and more. “We need to continue to nurture the fashion community and economy that is homegrown and in our own backyard.”

Masulla grew up in St. Louis where she remembers “being a precocious little girl” who started sketching and styling her own dolls and requested a subscription to Vogue when she was eight years old. She studied Fashion History and Business at Parsons School of Design – The New School in New York City. Since then, she’s been a

stylist, fashion writer, organized closets, owned her own namesake boutique, managed a vintage/upcycled store, produced fashion shows and consulted and produced events for fashion brands.

She moved to Nashville in 2008 where she found the local fashion community to be warm and welcoming. She became involved, made connections and eventually pioneered Nashville Fashion Week (NFW), along with Connie Cathcart-Richardson and Mclaine Richardson.

NFW debuted in 2011 with a city-wide celebration of Nashville’s thriving fashion and retail community and its vast array of creative talent. Perhaps as a way of reciprocating for the way she was embraced by the local fashion community, Masulla and the volunteer-led organization introduced the Nashville Fashion Forward Fund (NFFF). As part of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT), the NFFF is an endowed fund that supports the next generation of fashion industry professionals with ties to Middle Tennessee.

The annual award is a financial grant intended for experiential professional development opportunities. Applications are accepted each year with the recipient selected “by a committee of the Community Foundation board, based on pre-established criteria inspired by the Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA)/ VOGUE Fashion Fund to advance the career of select local talent,” says Masulla.

“Applicants must first meet the criteria of having Middle Tennessee ties and then submit an outline of their brand and plan of how they intend to utilize the funds. With the NFS team being so connected to the community, we chose to have a panel of judges selected by the (CFMT) review the entries and select the recipient each year.” Masulla notes that, to avoid conflicts, NFFF members are not privy to the identities of those who serve on the selection committee as it is managed by the CFMT.

In July, Clarksville native and TSU graduate Rhea Daniels became the 12th Nashville Fashion Forward Fund recipient. Daniels is an entrepreneur who has worked for Nike in Portland, Oregon. Currently, she’s the founder and creative director for Papierdoll Factory, an online accessories boutique dedicated to blending avant-garde resort wear with cultural consciousness.

Daniels is from a military family and she plans to use her grant to take a class where she can learn how to obtain government contracts that will enable her to place her products in stores on military bases across the globe.

Rhea Daniels Photo by Hannah Graham, Atlanta

“I think this award is a catapult to the stratosphere,” says Daniels. “It’s giving me an opportunity to propel my brand forward and introducing me to people who can make that happen. Anthony Bourdain traveled the world and talked about food and the culture and the people behind it. Papierdoll does the same thing through creativity and fashion. Accessories are important to me because it’s how you make an outfit your own. I can tell you the story behind the accessory. When you can tell someone how an item is dyed and why they use that fabric, it sparks interest in other cultures. It’s a conversation starter and a way to bring people together.”

Daniels’ relationship with Nashville Fashion Week goes back several years. “We first met Rhea when she applied to be a vendor at one of our outdoor marketplaces,” says Masulla. “I can still recall her infectious energy and professional acumen when she showed up. I just had to scoop up one of her clutches for my personal closet. Over time, Rhea kept in touch and made the leap to apply for the NFFF. I’m so thrilled that she did. She is the epitome of all the good things that anyone would want to cheer. She’s a hardworking self-starter who is both kind and intelligent. She also happens to have a keen eye for both style and business opportunities.”

CHRISTY THE CONNECTOR

CHRISTY HUNTER IS PASSIONATE ABOUT CONNECTING OTHERS THROUGH FASHION, PHOTOGRAPHY, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, AND EMPOWERMENT.

Christy Hunter is a woman who wears many hats… literally!  From her impeccable style to her success in several endeavors, Christy has mastered the art of combining her passion for creativity and love for her community. Also known as Christy the Connector, the mother of four is a photographer, entrepreneur, content creator, and travel and fashion enthusiast. Growing up in a military family, Christy shares she always thought of Nashville as home since her grandparents lived here. She recalls fond memories of visiting Opryland as a child and taking in the glamour of being in Music City.

Christy has always been a fan of photography. From spending time scrapbooking to patiently waiting to get her film photos developed, she shares that documenting memories has always meant a lot to her. After getting her first professional camera fifteen years ago, she taught herself the ins and outs of photography, ultimately leading to paid shoots. Prior to becoming a photographer, Christy shares that she enjoyed life raising her four children and began a “new era” when entering this creative journey.

“I realized my love had always been for fashion,” Christy shares. “I’ve always been fascinated with editorial and fashion photography… then I realized I could create that, and it could be an outlet for me.” Christy began working with different designers around town, which ultimately built her creative portfolio and led her to shoot New York Fashion Week, weddings, influencers, and more.

“I’ve always been inspired by the 1990s supermodel era, the 1940s Hollywood glam era, and the old Nashville rhinestone cowboy era,” Christy shares, describing her style. I love incorporating pops of color, learning the color palette that works for me, knowing my body shape, and trying things that push me out of my comfort zone.”

CONTINUED > photo by Cora Hunter

With all the tourism in Nashville over the past several years, Christy had a lightbulb idea to create a brand that offered a dual two-in-one photoshoot and city tour that visitors could book to enhance their trip. Naming it PhotoWalk Nashville, Christy curated a personalized experience with an expert photographer and local insider to capture your vacation memories and make selfies a thing of the past. They bring you to their favorite spots in town and guide you through their posing magic – ensuring you’ll have tons of photos to post and share from your trip. Over the years, they have worked with over ten thousand customers, partnered with over twenty local businesses, and been named one of the top Airbnb experiences in Nashville for five years in a row.

In the midst of PhotoWalk, Christy also acquired Go To Nashville, a recommendation page sharing Nashville’s best restaurants, bars, hotels, shows, and events for both locals and tourists in the area. She explains how full circle it has been to share not only the new finds in the city but also the hidden treasures that she went to growing up.

“It fits in as such a natural part of who I am that I can have my personal brand as Christy the Connector as well as PhotoWalk Nashville. I am still very involved as the founder and CEO, but having a great team and letting the company be its own [is great],” Christy shares. “Then there’s Go To Nashville, who lets Nashville be the star… I’m just the supporting actress and get to show off my city!”

As far as some of her personal favorites in Music City, Christy says she loves visiting Cheekwood Botanical Garden, which gives her the European feel in her own backyard. She also loves to sip on the amazing cocktails offered at Mimo Restaurant and Bar, located inside the Four Seasons Hotel, before dining at Bad Idea in East Nashville—which she ensures is, in fact, “a good idea.”

While speaking on what it means to have integrated her love for Nashville, photography, and fashion into her career, she explains it has been a dream come true and has given her such fulfillment in connecting others to the places, people, and food she loves.

“With PhotoWalk, I’m able to encourage people and lift them up,” Christy shares. “I can’t tell you how many times we’ve had people come in saying they don’t like themselves in pictures, but by the end, have a new mindset and are looking at themselves and feeling a different way. Knowing we can make an impact is what it’s about to me.”

THE ULTIMATE ROAD TRIP- PORSCHE

What’s the ultimate road trip you can imagine? On the East Coast, it’s hard to beat the legendary Tail of the Dragon. Out West, the Pacific Coast Highway might steal the spotlight. But picture this: a journey starting in Southern Germany, weaving through Austria and the Italian Alps, navigating hairpin turns in Switzerland, and culminating at the world’s most challenging racetrack. The best part? You’re driving a brand-new Porsche GT4—your GT4. It may sound like a dream, but it’s all too real. Buckle up—this is the story of a Porsche European delivery.

Here’s a pro tip: if a friend invites you to join them on a Porsche European delivery road trip, don’t hesitate—say yes! That’s exactly what happened to me last year when Jake reached out unexpectedly. After special ordering his GT4 nearly a year prior, he meticulously planned the ultimate road trip for car enthusiasts. As a lifelong Porsche fanatic and a professional automotive photographer, I was thrilled to be invited along.

Jake and I landed in Frankfurt and quickly boarded a highspeed train to Porsche’s home in Stuttgart. As the Intercity Express (ICE) zoomed along at nearly 180 mph, charming villages, hilltop castles, and lush farmland flashed by. Arriving in Stuttgart, we checked into our hotel, explored the city, dined with some of Jake’s German colleagues, and finally got some much-needed rest.

After a hearty German breakfast, we took a taxi to the Porsche delivery center, where we met Jake’s delivery specialist, Tillman. Tillman was the epitome of the quintessential German—stylish, approachable, and with a clever sense of humor. His English was impeccable. He led us to a spacious room with individual delivery bays, and there, in bay number one, was a black cover draped over the unmistakable silhouette of a GT4. The moment we had eagerly anticipated had finally arrived.

The cover was gracefully pulled away to reveal a stunning GT4 in Porsche's historic "Ruby Star" color, complemented by striking bronze wheels. As the pinnacle of the Cayman lineup,

the GT4 features a 4-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine delivering 414 HP, with Jake opting for a manual transmission to enhance the driving experience. His GT4 also boasted an exclusive interior package with bespoke leather and custom paint details, so unique that it was built by Porsche Sonderwunsch— Porsche’s equivalent of Skunk Works.

Once the initial thrill of seeing the car wore off, Tillman got to work, introducing Jake to his new Porsche. With 25 years of experience as a delivery specialist, Tillman was exceptionally skilled. He guided us through every feature and maintenance procedure to ensure Jake was fully prepared for the journey ahead. Porsche handled all the paperwork, insurance, and license plates, making the process as smooth and straightforward as possible.

The delivery experience included a factory tour, a delightful lunch, and a museum visit before it was time for the first drive. We departed Stuttgart, heading south towards the Italian Alps with Stelvio Pass as our first destination. This iconic road, the second-highest mountain pass in the Alps, straddles the border

between Italy and Switzerland. While the views were breathtaking, the pass was crowded with camper vans and cyclists moving at a pace far less thrilling than a Porsche GT4’s potential. Rather than wait for the crowds to thin, we shifted our focus to our next dream routes: the Furka and Grimsel Passes. Driving through Switzerland felt like stepping into a storybook, with stunning scenery, quaint villages, and cabins perched on hillsides, all under the best weather the region had seen in weeks.

We arrived late at our lakeside mountain top hotel on Grimsel Pass, just in time to witness a mesmerizing full moon rise over the water, with a trail of Starlink satellites cutting through the peaks—a sight I’ll never forget. Early the next morning, we descended Grimsel Pass and ascended Furka Pass to the iconic Hotel Belvedere, renowned as an automotive photographer’s dream backdrop. The weather was spectacular, with the sun rising over the Alps, casting a morning glow on the scene. Hotel Belvedere stood before us; a massive glacier loomed behind, and the view stretching back down the pass extended for miles—an absolutely breathtaking panorama.

We could have easily stayed in Switzerland until the snow began to fall, but our last destination awaited: the Nürburgring. One of the most renowned racetracks in the world, the Nürburgring, located in the Eifel Mountains, is just under 13 miles long, with 154 turns and a 1,000-foot elevation change. It’s so expansive that it even encompasses entire villages. We completed three laps, with Jake skillfully navigating the turns while avoiding the impossibly fast cars driven by experienced locals. If there’s a bucket list for car enthusiasts, lapping the Nürburgring is undoubtedly at the top.

Our journey concluded back in Stuttgart, where we handed Jake’s car over for its transatlantic voyage. 43 days later, the GT4 arrived at Porsche Nashville for its final delivery and handover. It was surreal to see the car that had navigated the Alps, roared down the Autobahn, and conquered the Nürburgring now cruising the streets of Nashville. While our epic European road trip had come to an end, Jake’s thrilling ownership experience with his iconic Porsche GT4 was just beginning.

STYLIN’ ON THE OUTSIDE

ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI | PHOTOGRAPHY BY REED BROWN

“Everybody wants a backyard paradise,” says Dana Rondeau, co-owner, along with husband, Steve, of Rondo Pools in Franklin. “People want the luxury that’s on the inside of their homes to match the outside because their outdoor living space is really just an extension of their houses. They want to have their families and friends in the backyard and hold birthday parties, graduation parties, and football watch parties.”

With over 40 years in the design and build industry, Rondo Pools has the expertise to create exactly what clients envision. In addition to an amazing pool, the company can also provide all the extras that can really turn a backyard into a complete entertainment space.

“Outdoor fire pit areas are very popular because they’re conversational, and they’re great for everything from s’mores with your kids to your teenagers hanging out with friends,” she says.

Water features are also popular, not only for their aesthetics but also for the serene sounds they create. While outdoor kitchens have been standard for a while, people are adding fun additions like pizza ovens and beers on tap.

“Another big thing now is turf areas for putting greens, bocce ball courts, corn hole, and even sports courts for pickleball,” says Dana.

When it comes to furnishing these extraordinary outdoor spaces, she has that covered as well, having just launched Harmony Luxury Outdoors. “There’s a difference in furniture and it needs to withstand the outside elements. As a Rondo Pools client, we can make a completely cohesive project where we not only design your space, but we design your furnishings, rugs, umbrellas, pillows, and more.” Non-Rondo clients will have access to all these products as well.

Of course, Dana and Steve have their own spectacular outdoor space and love to throw lavish pool parties. “We like to do big shrimp boils and my husband will do great smash burgers on the Blackstone®. It’s always easy to bring in some catered barbecue too.” Cocktails may include Mai Tais, pitchers of margaritas, and fun mocktails.

They want their clients to be able to enjoy the same types of parties in their own backyards. When choosing a design, Dana wants to encourage people to be brave, be bold, and do something different with their selections. “You don’t want your backyard to look like everybody else’s, and I think people are getting a little more experimental. When I was in Portugal last summer, I found these porcelain and ceramic tiles dating back to the 1400s, and it inspired me to bring a whole new line of tiles into our design studio.”

She loves sitting down with clients to create personalized spaces for their unique tastes and desires and then implementing the final designs into action. “If you have an idea, we can create it,” says Dana. “We listen, and we want our clients to feel valued. At the end of the project, we want them to look out back and be glad that they partnered with us. This is a big investment and they’re not only investing emotionally, but financially.”

With the unprecedented growth in Nashville and the surrounding areas, many new pool companies have surfaced. She says it is imperative when choosing a pool builder for homeowners to do their due diligence and research to make sure they pick someone highly qualified. Experience matters, and not all pools are built the same.

“A luxury space requires an established luxury build firm,” says Dana.

J ENNIFERREID: A WOMANLIKE YOU

Jennifer Reid is a wife, mother, content creator, and podcast host.

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, she attended Bishops University—located in the Eastern Townships in the province of Quebec—where she received her degree in Philosophy.

Here, Jennifer met her husband, John, whose family had immigrated from Scotland to Canada a few years prior. After graduation, Jennifer began her career in corporate sales while John pursued a music career.

Fast-forward several years to 2001. The pair were married, expecting their first child, and preparing to relocate to Music City, where John had landed a record deal. While Jennifer was very successful in sales, she knew she would not return once her son was born.

Experiencing the music industry in Nashville struck her with complete awe—not only was their new community supportive and welcoming to musicians but also to creatives of all kinds.

While reflecting on that era of life, Jennifer shares that balancing traveling on the road and being at home raising their four kids had allowed her to experience the best of both worlds. After being a

stay-at-home mom for twenty-one years, her kids were getting older, and she wanted to do something for herself. She knew she wanted to do something creative and, though it was a bit daunting, ultimately decided to take a very big leap and do something she had thought about for a while - launch a podcast.

Jennifer first created the A Woman Like You Instagram account in 2015, where she posted about everything she loved: family, friends, animals, interior design, fitness, fashion, and makeup, to name a few. People began asking why she hadn’t started a blog – something she’d never thought about – but says she found a creative outlet, which she was surprised by how much she enjoyed. She continued to share that while she never claimed to be an expert on any of the topics she discussed or posted about, she did feel that she had become a ‘mini expert’ on some things due to life experience. This mindset gave her the push to take the leap and begin a fulfilling journey!

“My husband actually wrote and recorded a song called ‘A Woman Like You,’” Jennifer shares on how she came up with the name for her podcast. “It was always in my mind, and when I was trying to come up with a name for my Instagram and podcast, [it seemed perfect] since I wanted it to be for all women.”

Jennifer wanted her podcast to be an extension of the content she already posted on her Instagram page, striving to dive deeper and create bigger and longer discussions. After signing to iHeart Radio earlier this year, the A Woman Like You podcast was launched and can now be found on Spotify and Apple in addition to iHeart. Consisting of twenty episodes, the podcast was also simultaneously launched on YouTube - since Jennifer valued the visual aspect as well. Season two is out now and features new episodes every Wednesday. From mold-breaking conversations with CONTINUED >

special guests to light-hearted banter, A Woman Like You was created to be a safe space where women can laugh, cry, and relate.

“I am a huge fan of friendships. I love having female friends, I love laughing with them, sharing stories, sharing secrets, sharing conversations. I love having a cup of coffee or a glass of wine with a friend – it’s like food for my soul, therapy in a cup,” says Jennifer. “I was once told that my podcast was essentially topics you would talk about with your best friends over lunch… and that is exactly what I had hoped for!”

When asked what advice she has for anyone scared to make a creative leap, she shares, “Just do it! Today… right now… put it on paper and start brainstorming. We often get in our own way more than anyone else [and] there is truly no time like the present.”

“Women in my generation were raised to play it safe… to take the path of least resistance… to not make waves and cause a scene,” she continues. “I'm trying to raise my daughter differently, and a big part of that is leading by example. I want her to go through life with the mindset of one of my favorite quotes, ‘What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?’”

ESCAPE TO BOLT FARM TREEHOUSE FOR A WEEKEND OF MAGIC

Unwind In Paradise

“There's just so much beauty,” Tori says.
“It's a perfect place to reflect.”

Just a short two-hour drive from Nashville lies a mountain paradise that sits on 55 acres of breathtaking land: Bolt Farm Treehouse. This renowned retreat offers an enchanting escape with its Honeymoon Treehouses, Mirror Cabins, and Domes, perfect for couples, friend groups, or writers’ retreats. Featured on Netflix’s "World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals" and famous for luxurious stays, Bolt Farm Treehouse is a bucket list must for every couple seeking a magical getaway.

NEEDTOBREATHE’s Seth Bolt and his wife, Tori, are the driving force behind Bolt Farm Treehouse, whose mission is to ensure every visitor leaves relaxed and rejuvenated. The origin story of the original Honeymoon Treehouse that started it all is one that rivals that of a romantic comedy, beginning in 2013.

Before meeting Tori, Seth and his dad envisioned a mountainous retreat where he could escape into nature and unwind, so he got to work on the first treehouse. During this, he met Tori, and they quickly fell in love. Inspired by love, he raised the bar of luxury and romance in how he designed and built the treehouse, which he presented as a wedding gift to Tori and the perfect place to spend their first days as newlyweds on their honeymoon.

“It turned into this gift for that day, and it was incredible,” Tori gushes.“He wouldn't let me see it until our honeymoon, so it was a total surprise. It was just absolutely breathtaking, and it was on our honeymoon that we were staying in the treehouse for a few days. We put our phones on Do Not Disturb, and the environment not only inspired us and fostered

connection, but it gave us space to dream, pray, and think about our future and what we wanted our life to look like. I was working in news at the time, and this time for us in the treehouse was a turning point. We just felt like this was what we needed to do. This is our life's work and calling, to create more places like this. So that other couples and individuals can experience the same thing. Soon after, I quit my job, and we went all in on this dream together.”

This wedding gift has evolved into the gift that keeps on giving, offering guests the opportunity to stay at one of their three unique options: the Honeymoon Treehouses, the Mirror Cabins, and the Domes – all of these places being one-of-a-kind. All three provide peace and privacy, allowing visitors to reconnect with nature. Guests can also opt for Bolt Farm’s Chef-Made Meals, high-quality meals that you can easily heat and eat inside your pizza oven, eliminating the stress of cooking. They also offer a pizza-making kit, allowing guests to assemble a pizza and bake it in their pizza oven, which is included in their stay. Each stay has a French press and record player, perfect for the guaranteed slow-paced, serene mornings.

Besides adding five new treehouses, they are also in the process of creating a spa, all of which will be finished by the end of the year.

“I love that we work together,” Tori says. “It's one of our superpowers. And we have common goals, common struggles, and I love being in sync with him, and I love getting to do it together to chase dreams together.”

BUILDING THE FUTURE. HONORING THE PAST

Monroe off of Granny White Pike, located in Green Hills / Brentwood

AT BARLOW BUILDERS, AUSTIN PENNINGTON HAS APPLIED LESSONS LEARNED FROM HIS FATHER AND GRANDFATHER TO DEVELOP SOME OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE’S MOST DESIRABLE HOMES.

Being a good steward of the land is something to which everyone aspires. That’s because we’re all connected directly to it.

But what does being a good steward entail? It’s one thing to champion the cause, but taking tangible steps toward that goal is quite another. It’s a challenge that one Nashville-based builder takes to heart.

Avenue Downs in Thompson's Station

“Middle Tennessee is known for its rural farm setting; more open space means more freedom,” says Austin Pennington, president and CEO of Barlow Builders. “Every time you develop, you have one chance to get it right. History will tell you where to go and how to get there. So, honoring the past allows for a bright future.”

Pennington founded Barlow Builders (Barlow is his middle name and has been in his family for generations) in 2006 while he was still a student at Belmont University.

Pennington is a third-generation developer. His grandfather was an architect,

and his father was a homebuilder. “My grandfather did mostly commercial work, but he taught me what proper architecture should be,” he says. “My father taught me what it means to build something beyond codes, which is the minimal standard.

“Historically, Nashville has been in a race to follow the trend. But we strive to make things better than the way we found it.”

Those characteristics can be found in Barlow-built homes and developments. From land procurement to construction and realty, the Barlow team has been involved with more than 10,000 residential

lots. However, the company is not in the business of developing and turning over homesites to meet certain quotas.

“We try for lower density,” says Pennington. “More homes are not better; better homes are better.”

That’s a lesson Barlow learned back at Belmont when he purchased a site in Nolensville from his grandfather. “People will drive to price or drive to quality,” he says. “That’s when I realized that you had to build a higher-quality home on the outskirts of town. If you build it nicer, it sells faster. That’s been our strategy from day one.”

Pennington credits his team for its commitment to building the Barlow

brand. “I came on board 14 years ago when Austin developed his first neighborhood in Nolensville,” says managing broker Lorraine Mineo. “It was a great product. I saw that he was going to have a lot of neighborhoods that would grow and that a small company could become a larger one.”

Mineo says that the finishes are major differentiators in Barlow homes. From countertops to flooring and high-end treatments, Barlow homes are characterized by their meticulous attention to detail. “A lot of comments that we receive from buyers are that Barlow homes ‘feel better,’” she says.

Says CFO Bryan Solomon: “The floor plans enhance the livability of the home.

Every space has a purpose; everything is functional.”

Barlow has four major neighborhoods in various stages of development: Avenue Downs in Thompson’s Station, Reese in Franklin, Telluride in Brentwood, and Monroe in Green Hills.

Avenue Downs is off Lewisburg Pike and Columbia Pike and only five minutes to I-840. The majority of homesites back up to open spaces, and a walking trail will lead to Thompson’s Station elementary and middle schools.

Located off Del Rio Pike, Reese is five minutes from downtown Franklin with easy access to Mack Hatcher Parkway. The entry-level price point is $800,000 for townhomes and $1 million+ for singlefamily homes.

Barlow has partnered with two other builders on the Monroe development, which is on the corner of Glendale and Granny White Pike. Homes start at $3 million and 5,000 square feet.

In September, Barlow will return to where it all began. Telluride is a development that straddles Brentwood and Nolensville.

YOUR FOOT IS O TOP PRIORITY

The EPITOME of Luxury

ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI

Entering the beautifully landscaped, gated community of Windstone in Brentwood is like driving into a private park. Nestled in a serene and charming valley, it’s also conveniently located near Green Hills and Franklin.

Within the gates, luxurious homes abound, including the nearly 10,000-square-foot estate at 821 Windstone Boulevard, which has six bedrooms, six full baths, and two half baths. It’s tailored to please even the most discriminating buyer who demands the best in life.

“It’s a really warm and inviting home,” says Realtor® Lisa Culp Taylor of the LCT Team in Franklin. “You walk straight into a beautiful living room that overlooks the pool and outdoor living area. You can then open the sliding doors off the living room and step into a spectacular screened-in covered porch that features a wood-burning fireplace. It’s very much indoor-outdoor living.”

“This community has one of the prettiest entries in the area. It’s beautifully landscaped with gates that are set back off the main road. It’s just kind of nestled there in a valley.”

The gourmet kitchen, with its incredible center island, also features a built-in banquette. “It’s open to the family room, which has a beautiful fireplace, shiplap, and beams,” she says. “The primary bedroom suite is secluded and includes a large sitting area, two walk-in closets, and a luxurious spa bathroom.” Four other bedrooms are en suites as well, providing family and guests the privacy they desire.

A truly expansive game room with a wet bar and sitting area is a great space for entertaining a crowd or simply relaxing and enjoying some alone time. “The resort-style pool is to die for,” says Lisa. “It has diving platforms, waterfalls, little grottos under the waterfalls, and a huge tanning ledge. It’s great for entertaining a large group.”

Lisa and her team of 11 agents are experts at handling the purchase and sale of this type of luxury home. “We’re now with Onward Real Estate, which was just founded this year by Bob Parks. He was the owner of Parks Realty for 49 years, and I worked with him for 21 years, so I decided to stay with Bob."

“We were the number one team with Parks Realty for several years, and we are now the number one medium-sized team in Tennessee and the 14th medium-sized team in the nation.”

Like Lisa, some of her agents were born and bred in Brentwood, which allows them to guide buyers—especially those coming from out of state—to the best areas and homes for their needs. Others are newer to the area, which helps them understand how challenging it can be to move to an entirely new community.

“Being a native of the area, I've seen a lot of changes over the years with the market,” says Lisa. “I understand how to market luxury homes and what people might be looking for. One of my greatest strengths is being a good listener. It’s important to listen to what people are looking for and not just try to direct them. I let them direct me on what they’re looking for in a home because everyone’s needs are different.”

Courtney Major, owner, and artist of Cocostylz Artistry hair and makeup salon, may be modest in person and about her success, but the volume from her blowouts is anything but. There is a lot of volume, height, texture, and dimension. High-volume hair is so in this fall.

Cocostylz Artistry was created by Major a year and a half ago. Her nickname, “Coco,” inspired the name of her salon and “Artistry” because she is a true artist, a beauty artist. Coco specializes in dry cuts, extensions, wedding and special events, makeup, and hair.

At the age of 7, Coco was intrigued by beauty and had a knack for style. She would practice hair and makeup to the delight of her cousins and soon realized this was her passion. Initially, Coco thought she would do something in medicine, maybe becoming an anesthesiologist. She knew she wanted to help people in a meaningful way with her choice of career. Styling and pampering were a way of helping others feel confident and satisfied in themselves and their looks.

“My passion is deeply rooted in helping people, whether medicine or hair. I love empowering people,” said Coco as I sat in the cozy salon chair surrounded by the calm spa atmosphere. The salon is peaceful, with rooms for one or two, which is perfect for direct attention. There’s no hustle or bustle from a noisy salon that can be overcrowded and impersonal. It’s one-on-one and relaxing.

Inspired by natural elements, Coco uses only natural products without synthetic ingredients.

Synthetic components can create a barrier between the nutrients the hair needs and the hair itself. Without the added fuss of silicon and other damaging ingredients, the hair can receive the treatment, moisture, and healthy features to make it beautiful.

Coco is inviting, and her salon is luxurious and charming. There are luxury styling products, chocolates to savor, and your choice of beverage: wine, coffee, or water. The double mirrors allow you to take a look and a double look.

Coco, only 26, has gone on from her Aveda Institute education in Franklin to achieve so much through her training. While studying at Aveda before graduation, Coco started to look for a job post-grad. This ambitious student was ready for the next step and didn’t want to wait. She reached out to celebrity hairstylist Jon Reyman through Instagram. He flew her out to Los Angeles to see her work firsthand. After watching her esthetics, he was incredibly impressed. She did better work than many of his existing stylists! She took on an apprenticeship with Reyman for nearly a year. Reyman, throwing away Coco’s old sheers, gifted her his own personal ones. She is definitely “on a good journey,” as she puts it.

From LA, it was on to New York for New York Fashion Week in 2018. Coco worked behind the scenes with other artists for one of the world’s most notable fashion weeks. She helped fashion designers complete the art and look they wanted, sometimes working with 7 to 8 other stylists at the

same time on the same model. It required teamwork, efficiency, talent, and speed. She met famous designers such as Elie Tahari, who inspired her to learn so much about beauty and skill. Coco’s enthusiasm for her craft is just beaming from her spirit.

“I just love it! I could not have picked a better job,” said Coco while trimming and texturing my hair for a new and

trendier look. She feels like a trusted friend, open and friendly, and happy to answer all my questions. She wears her hair slicked back in a ponytail full of volume and curls, showing off the sleek style that is trending everywhere now.

Coco has an eye for detail, ambition, and eagerness to her. She would love to open her own full-service salon. She also wants to be the first salon available for service at the airport. Coco asks, “There are nail salons; why not a blowout salon?” You may need a blowout in between or after flights. Coco is a go-getter and doesn’t shy away from the hard work it takes to create an up-and-coming business. She takes business classes and networks as well to perfect her company. She would love to open her next location.

This September is improvement month, and Coco is ready to make you shine and help you create a refreshing new look that you are proud to show off. Celebrate the milestones in your life, like retirement, a new baby, or graduation, and have her pair a brand-new look with your achievements.

Coco’s salon is located in Green Hills. You can check out her portfolio of designs on her website, Facebook page, or Instagram. She has blowout packages available. Mention this article, and you will receive a free blowout. I was blown away!

A New Style Of Dining

PROVIDED BY

In a town known for its abundance of spectacular entertainment and world-renowned restaurants, Grand Hyatt Nashville has introduced the city to something it has never seen before: Le Petit Chef.

This new-to-town restaurant is so popular that it’s booked three months in advance. It seamlessly fuses entertainment and fine dining into one unforgettable experience that’s not like any other dinner reservation you’ve ever had and is truly the first of its kind. It’s the perfect place to be, whether that be for a date night, a night out with friends, or even a night out on the town with family.

HEAD OVER TO GRAND HYATT NASHVILLE TO MEET THE WORLD'S TINIEST CHEF

"IT’S SOMETHING THAT’S UNIQUE, SOMETHING THAT YOU DON'T SEE EVERY DAY, AND IT’S JUST SOMETHING FOR SPECIAL MOMENTS."

“Nashville has a very vibrant restaurant scene, there’s this element of show, this element of experience and dining, and I think that one thing that we’ve created is the high-class food offering that comes with it,” Grand Hyatt Nashville’s General Manager, Marc Sternagel explains. “It’s not just that we put this show on for us, it was very important to have an elevated dining experience, and we combine it with a show effect. It’s something that’s unique, something that you don't see every day, and it’s just something for special moments or even if you just want a different date night.”

So, what exactly is Le Petit Chef?

It’s an immersive dining experience produced by Grand Hyatt Nashville and 2Spicy Entertainment GmbH that utilizes a projector that’s built into the ceiling and visual mapping that projects the world’s most miniature chef—Le Petit Chef— onto the dinner table. Then, he will make their dinner in front of the patron’s own eyes and they will get to witness his cooking mishaps right onto the plate as he “prepares” the fivecourse meal. But the tiny chef isn’t actually cooking the dinner. The projection of his cooking is synced to the extremely talented kitchen staff who is working hard to bring to life the chef’s creations so the customers can taste them, with each course being drastically different from the previous course.

“It’s not just sitting there and getting a meal, it's an animation that’s taking place right in front of you, there’s a little storyline around you,” Marc says.  “It’s a little chef who experiences some ups and downs while he’s preparing the meal for you, so you get to experience the storyline, and eventually, when he’s done, they come and serve you the matching dish, and you get to experience great food.”

CONTINUED >

Le Petit Chef is just 6 cm tall, and he will not grow any bigger. According to legend, he was born in April 2015 in Marseille, France. Enjoy an unforgettable experience with delightful dining and entertainment. By using a profound artistic knowledge, and combining it with the latest technology, his "parents" - the art directors of Skullmapping - tell stories with stunning bespoke visuals, such as “Le Petit Chef”. The technology they use is called 3D Projection Mapping.

The show is paired with themed music, props, and an exquisite menu. A miniature chef to life on your dinner table, all through the magic of visual mapping. By mapping your dining table and the objects on it (e.g. your plates and cutlery), they are able to project a virtual story onto the tabletop. The 3D effect is often thought of as a hologram or a 3D projection. In fact the use of special optical techniques, length distortions from the right angle to produce the effect or illusion of 3D.

Those who dine with Le Petit Chef can expect their dishes to be cooked to perfection while being able to have a little taste of everything: from wagyu tenderloin to a lobster cioppino, the chef prepares it all topped off with a perfect wine pairing that complements every course. The dining experience also offers a vegetarian and kid’s menu so guests of all appetites can feel welcome. They can also accommodate those who are dairy, gluten, and fish-free without compromising the unforgettable experience.

“We are using high-end, quality products, it’s all prepared fresh, so nothing is premade, nothing is done weeks in advance, and it is done right in the kitchen and literally right when the video runs, we start plating,” Marc says. “It’s quite a logistical matter.”

Middle Tennessee is one of the few spots in America that gets to experience this worldwide phenomenon, as there are currently over 71 locations available worldwide for Le Petit Chef. After five months of figuring out the logistics, the Grand Hyatt Nashville was finally able to introduce the public to Le Petit Chef in late May. Since its opening, the experience has quickly blown up, and there are no signs of slowing down.

Customers can expect their experience to take an hour and a half and two hours, making it a perfect dinner experience before any other plans they may have for the evening.

“You get a great product, and you’re not in the restaurant for the entire night, so it’s a speedy service you don’t have to sit there with endless breaks in between,” Marc says. “It’s a fairly speedy and great experience, and the time that it takes to experience it is just a perfect combination that you enjoy the meal and enjoy the presentation, but it doesn't take up the entire night.”

Le Petit Chef is an experience that you will talk about for months after your reservation, leaving you wanting more. This whimsical experience is something you’ll have to see to believe. So book a reservation, head down to the Grand Hyatt, and prepare to be immersed in the magic that is Le Petit Chef.
