This September will see the U3A ’s 40th anniversary. The group was initially set up by three friends in Cambridge with inspiration take n from the French model. Today the U3A is global and has its biggest presence in China. In the UK ther e are around 500,000 members across 1,000 groups, with Orpington welcoming 1,000 members preCovid. If you are retired or have the time why not join us? We have 80 widely varied interest groups, whi ch include Bridge, IT, philosophy and walking. Our mon thly meetings feature a topical public speaker, plus the chance to meet other members and potential friends over refreshments. Membership is just £12 a year. PIB (People In Business) recently held a charity Speed Networking event at the Bromley Court Hotel to help raise funds for the MumMum Foundation and The Chartwell Cancer Trust. Just under £400 was raised as the ticket money was kindly fund matched by Southeast Legacies.
