TCS is a global leader in IT services, consulting & business solutions building great futures through innovation and technology.
Building on belief
Finally, it’s time again. Time to lace up the running shoes, get to Lidingö, pick up the bib and stand on the starting line. Hopefully the preparations have been good, you have ”the day” and the weather is perfect. Best of luck and glad that you want to be part of creating the world’s biggest cross country race!
This year, TCS Lidingöloppet will be held September 22-24. We are of course aiming for glorious autumn sun, but regardless of the weather, we are looking forward to a folk festival where both the audience and runners will have a wonderful experience. After a few years with the pandemic and the backlog of it, this year we are back with full force and many registered runners in all classes. We are very happy about that.
Many officials have worked hard all year so that everything will be in place when you come to Lidingö. You are most welcome and even
during the weekend we will do everything to make your visit as good as possible. As usual, we offer beautiful nature, varied terrain, nice surface and support along the tracks.
Also this year, we have several novelties, one of which is our new race Girls/Boys 7-15 years without timing 1.7 km. Perfect for those who want to run with a sibling, a friend of a different age or by themselves without looking at the watch. Another news is that TCS Lidingöloppet 30k is broadcast live on TV4 Sportkanalen and TV4 Play 12.00-14.30. So tell the loved ones that they can follow the race free of charge.
Again; a warm welcome to our green island and TCS Lidingöloppet in 2023. And please come back in 2024 as well, then it will be an anniversary when we celebrate our 60th race. It will be something really extra!

On sunday you can support the fight as well!
One who knows how important it is that there are many of us who run Rosa Bandet-loppet ( the Pink Ribbon-race) is Sophia Zackrisson. She is a radiologist at Skåne University Hospital and a professor at Lund University. She is researching new methods to detect breast cancer early with imaging. Sophia became Cancer Researcher of the Year 2020.
Soon it will be time for you to stand on the starting line for the Rosa Bandet-race, how does it feel?
-Very fun, it’s been a long time since I ran a race.
What are you most looking forward to this year’s race?
-To experience the joy of movement with so many others and to run the race with my daughter.
The Rosa Bandet-race annually collects several hundreds of thousands kroner for the Cancer Foundation. You have had a share of this money, what has it meant for your progress in cancer research?
-The grants from the Cancer Foundation have been absolutely decisive for my research group. I received my first grant in 2008 and it has made it possible to carry out, among other things, our large screening study with 3D mammography and much more. 700,000 women are screened every year for breast cancer in Sweden and we are constantly looking for ways to improve the examinations. Today it is done the same for everyone, a kind of one-size fits all method. In the future, I hope that we can have an individually tailored examination depending on how high a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer is.
How do you see exercise as part of preventive work against cancer?
-Physical activity has so many positive effects on health, physical and mental well-being and not only
related to cancer. There are links to a reduced risk for some types of cancer, but also that physical activity helps cancer patients to cope better with their treatment and have fewer side effects.
What’s your best trick for getting mobility and pulse-raising exercise into your everyday life?
-I don’t take the elevator at work and walk instead of taking the bus. I always have running shoes with me when I travel for work, it’s a great way to discover places. I like to exercise outdoors and decide on certain evenings or mornings when it works with family, travel and work. I need and want to exercise regularly to feel good, think clearly, sleep and eat well.
Good luck with your continued research progress and on the tracks in the Rosa bandet-race!

GO FROM LIDINGÖ
DURING THE WHOLE WEEKEND AND ROAD BLOCKS
Even though the TCS Lidingöloppet weekend is marked annually by tens of thousands of personal victories, it is a special honor to obtain first place in the world’s largest XC race. TCS Lidingöloppet is therefore proud to present this year’s laurel wreath carriers (kranskulla and kransmas), who will hand out this year’s victory wreaths. Their names is Mårten Boström and Linda Skantze.
The tradition of victory wreaths in the Lidingö race has existed since 1968 and as usual this year’s chosen ones come from the two organizing clubs. Laurel wreath carriers is Linda Skantze, high jumper from IFK Lidingö Athletics and Mårten Boström from IFK Lidingö Ski and Orienteering Club.
We meet two athletes with quite different backgrounds at the Lidingöloppet statue at Grönsta.
Linda is in the middle of her high jump career with several top positions at the Swedishs champs on her merit list. And despite her young age, she is a veteran in IFK Lidingö with almost 20 years at the club!
Mårten, on the other hand, has his real elite career behind him, despite a continued very high level in the forest. His credentials are impressive to say the least, with a WC victory in orienteering and - actually - a victory in Lidingöloppet on the list! Mårten is originally from Finland, and has lived with his family in Lidingö for nine years now, since he got the job as coach in IFK Lidingö Orientering.
The motif on this year’s TCS Lidingöloppet medal, which by tradition bears motifs by the Lidingö artist Carl Milles, is a rearing horse.
Throughout his life, Carl Milles (1875-1955) has returned to animals as motifs. He observed in detail their expressions and movement patterns and placed great importance on their symbolic meaning.
For Milles, horses represented an energetic power animal that takes on all challenges in its path with pride and courage. ”Rearing horse” is an example of a late sculpture where Milles moved towards a more
How does it feel to have the honor of being crowned this year’s winner in the Lidingö race?
Linda: I was very happy when I was asked! It is obviously full of honor, but also nervous. You don’t want to cause it and be in the way in any way.
Mårten: It’s really honouring. But unexpectedly, I thought my time had passed, so to speak. What are your favorite memories of the Lidingö race?
Linda: I’ve done everything as an official, been at the hydration stop, the bag drop, been a forerunner and an afterrunner. And mascot! But I think the very best is probably the school jog. Seeing school children cheering each other on is wonderful! But the whole folk festival is fantastic.
Mårten: Getting to arrange with the club mates is nice. And the atmosphere along the track, with all the residents coming out to cheer. But of course – winning was also fun, of course!
Good luck this autumn with the assignment!
modern and geometric design language than before, which can be seen in the simplified mane, ponytail and angular plant stems.
All of Carl Milles’ statues, which, for 30 years have been featured on the TCS Lidingöloppet medals, can be seen at Millesgården on Lidingö.
