WHAT IS INTERLIBRARY LOAN & DOCUMENT DELIVERY? The InterLibrary Loan (ILL) & Document Delivery Department exists to expand access to materials not available in the Jerry Falwell Library (JFL) collections. The department fills requests for materials from JFL’s physical and electronic collections as well as from other lending libraries within the United States.
HOW DO I CREATE AN INTERLIBRARY LOAN ACCOUNT? The system used for InterLibrary Loans is called ILLiad. You can create an ILLiad account at Liberty.edu/Library/InterLibrary-Loan.
WHAT IS THE CENTER FOR RESEARCH LIBRARIES, AND HOW DO I REQUEST THEIR MATERIALS? The Jerry Falwell Library is a member of the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), an international consortium of university, college, and independent research libraries. CRL collects rare and uncommon primary source materials from all over the world in the topics of humanities, sciences, and social sciences. To search the CRL collections: • • •
Visit Liberty.edu/Library. Click on “Databases by Name” below the “Search Anything” box. Click on the letter “C” and then click on “Center for Research Libraries.“ If you are off-campus, you may be prompted to log in.
You can download electronic resources from CRL’s collection or fill out a request for physical items by completing the proper form through your ILLiad account.
HOW DO I REQUEST AN ITEM IF I HAVE ALL OF THE CITATION INFORMATION?
• Log into your ILLiad account, complete the appropriate form, and click “Submit.”
HOW DO I REQUEST AN ITEM FROM A DATABASE SEARCH? If no full-text item is available, click “Send a Request through InterLibrary Loan.”
WHAT TYPES OF MATERIALS CAN I REQUEST, AND HOW WILL THEY BE DELIVERED? Local students can request any items that are not available in any of JFL’s collections. »» All requested articles will be delivered electronically to the student’s ILLiad account. »» Any physical items will be delivered to the JFL Customer Service Center, and students will be notified to pick their items up there. Local students can request articles from print periodicals owned by the JFL via ILLiad. »» The library will scan these articles from our print copies and deliver them electronically to the student’s ILLiad account. Local Faculty »» Physical items, whether owned by JFL or borrowed from another library, will be delivered to the faculty member’s campus department by an ILL staff member or via campus mail. »» All requested items that are available in a digital format will be delivered electronically to the faculty member’s ILLiad account. Online Faculty and Students »» Students and faculty who do not live locally can also request physical materials owned by JFL and any journal articles. Requested articles will be delivered electronically to the customer’s ILLiad account. All physical items owned by the JFL will be shipped to the customer. (Customers are responsible for return shipping charges.) »» For physical materials not owned by JFL, customers can check with their local public library. Some exceptions and restrictions may apply. Contact the ILL staff with any questions or concerns.
HOW LONG CAN I KEEP THE ITEM? • Articles have no due date, but they will expire. Download articles from your ILLiad account before the expiration date indicated for the item. • Due dates on items from other libraries vary based on the policies of the lending library. • Physical items shipped from JFL collections are subject to the policies found on the JFL website, and their due dates can be checked by logging into your library account at Liberty.edu/Library.
