“People fail us...”

But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your from the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:20

“Do not be afraid” was a great consoling and comforting message from the angel who visited Joseph in a dream to put his fears to rest. For Joseph, God intervened to avert his quietly putting away his pregnant betrothed wife, in order to avoid shame and embarrassment from society. This is a great reminder that God intervenes in our state of fear, uncertainty and doubt. Similarly, in Nigeria as Christians, we daily live in situations that cause fear of our own countrymen. Attacks, killings and kidnapping by Islamist militants, the Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen terrorize every part of the country. Recently, about 200 Christians were reported massacred in cold blood in Benue State, and many more killings of Christians occur on a daily basis in other parts of the country. Sometimes they enter churches to burn them, and they mercilessly gun down Christian worshipers during services. In our situation of trauma, fear and doubt, we rest assured even in this Christmas season that God has intervened tion in His people. will never destitution, He will vation suffering, For those in fear salvation angels, ted Christians! of LHF, lated, published proclaiming and comfort our fear Christ, times when will never comfort Pray face persecution, port the ing Gospel the ministry

Mary heard the greeting of Angel Gabriel and tried to interpret those the angel continued with the words of encouragement and consolation: not, Mary.” Mary was a very attentive and thinking student of the Word; therefore she needed that encouragement to be courageous, and she needed the consolation that she found favor with God. that time, Mary’s life changed dramatically, and it was not a life most dream about. So many typical things common for other women were away from her. As the world around her came crashing down, and as things fail her, she would have to return to the encouragement and consolation of Word. She did witness the crucifixion of her Son. But not only that – she also witnessed the resurrection of her (and our!) Lord Jesus Christ! Her Son, our Lord did not fail her! He will never fail us either. Before the birth of our Savior, there was a priest named Zechariah, who in his old age was to father a son, John. Yet because he doubted the Angel Gabriel’s announcement of this miracle, Zechariah suffered a physical affliction: he was made mute, unable to speak. I wonder how this problem affected Zechariah’s work as a priest. Did he worry? Did he struggle?

I also have been walking through a very difficult journey. For many years, I have lived with diabetes, and now my eyes are growing weak, almost to the point of blindness.

Even though my body is failing, my faith in Jesus Christ remains strong. Through pain, tears, and struggle, I have learned one unchanging truth: Jesus never fails.

There were moments when I felt discouraged, moments when I was afraid. But in those dark times, God reminded me of His promise in Psalm 23:4:
