Superintendent’s Corner We’ve recently seen a draft for the Superintendent Jobsite Cleanliness Check Sheet come through as part of our Lewis Standardization initiative. Phil Kreiger, who is championing this effort, said, “Our commitment to our craft, subcontract partners, owners and communities is to provide industry leading, clean, organized and safe jobsites that our project teams can be proud to bear the Lewis name. The appearance of our jobsites, offices and vehicles should reflect our purpose, values and company culture in every detail, every day.” Nothing bothers me more than an unkept jobsite, from cleanliness, to signage, to organization. It speaks to how we value and honor the opportunity and responsibility given. Or not. If it looks like a train wreck, it probably is a train wreck. If we had Bill Lewis with a client standing on the corner looking back at your project, what would the perspective be? Our clients only have a general idea about what’s really happening on site, but they know what they see. They don’t forget first impressions. Step back and throw “Lewis” at the end of your name and ask yourself, “Would they have me back? Do I represent them, myself, and the Lewis name well?” Certain brands and products are successful because they’ve maintained and represent an image we want to be associated with. Our brand is only as good or valuable as the user’s (client’s) perspective, and their desire to be associated with it. Let’s be careful to protect this perspective by maintaining clean and orderly jobsites. I used to tell my daughters, “Love You First.” What I was trying to communicate is that only you will act in your own best interest. Take ownership of your own concerns first without compromise. As an owner you would value every detail and make very little compromise. When you are here at Lewis, you’re a part of a culture empowering our people to improve our communities. Every Decision. Every Detail. Every Day. EVERYONE. Very proud to be part of such a culture. David Torres Superintendent, Portland
