Superintendent’s Corner Over the years, I have seen countless children stop to watch construction while passing by a jobsite with their parents. The most common comment I hear from children is that they would like to stay and watch all day, especially if we have heavy equipment operating. Children have an intense interest in something they don’t understand. What is the reason for this interest? Is it the noise, the machines or simply the activity itself? My opinion includes all of the above, plus basic curiosity. It would be interesting to know why we each decided to commit our careers to the construction industry. Every person who shows up to the jobsite is looking to be a piece of a larger puzzle. No matter the complexity of the project, there is an inherent value in our participation. This value is amplified by the fact that we are working with people of all disciplines and perspectives. Through collaboration, we can solve any problem while doing something for the greater good beyond completion of the project. How are you going to contribute to that greater good?
