Superintendent’s Corner Over the course of my career, I’ve developed some simple fundamentals that I often revert to when faced with a challenge. One of my primary fundamentals is to “always function in the best interest of the project.” I view my construction project as a living entity, needing to be fostered by our team to ensure a successful life cycle. As a superintendent, I’m regularly put in a place where I need to make decisions and provide direction, often with little time to evaluate and respond. Sometimes it’s hard to have perfect confidence and often these decisions come at the cost of dollars, days, or gray hairs. However, when that happens, I pause to ask myself if my decision is in the best interest of the Project, aside from its ancillary consequences. If the answer is yes, then I can rest assured that it’s a sound decision. I truly believe that if we each show up every day and commit to this fundamental, we’ll have a successful project, a satisfied client and a lucrative company trajectory.
