LEMMON DROPS: Political signs should be popping up all around the county Six bite-size Lemmon Drops to nibble on while waiting for Kevin Harvick to take the checkered flag in the Daytona 500:

• Where are the political yard signs?

In any other year, I’d quickly grow tired of them before an election. But I’m actually looking forward to seeing signs for the various candidates in the weeks leading up to the March 15 Presidential Preference Primary. I’ve seen surprisingly few signs so far. On the Republican side, most of the signs I’ve seen are in support of either Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. I admit I did a double-take when I saw a sign in Sebastian for Democrat Bernie Sanders. I know there’s great interest locally in the Republican race. Almost everywhere I go, it comes up in a conversation. Trump, Trump, Trump. While I’m glad Trump is in the race (because of how much excitement he has generated), I’m one of those who believe there’s no way he’ll be the GOP nominee.

Last fall, when Trump began dominating in the national polls, a friend said he was starting to get concerned about the business mogul’s popularity. I assured him Trump had no chance of getting the party’s nomination. The day after Trump won the New Hampshire Primary, I received an email that circled back to the conversation we had a few months before. Russ Lemmon “You promised me this Trump creature would be gone by now,” he wrote. “I’m getting worried!” Not to worry, I still say. Granted, I’m not as confident in my prediction as I was last fall. If Trump beats both Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio in Florida, then I’ll be a believer. Maybe. You’ve heard of the Drudge Report, right? Well, there’s a

new website called the Vero Report. (The home page looks just like the Drudge Report.) Check out veroreport.com. It looks like an ambitious project. Let’s just hope it’s not used to trash local candidates in the August Primary. A politically connected person told me it was created by a supporter of one of the County Commission candidates. If so, and the website is used to trash the opponent(s) of said candidate, then the website’s credibility will be shot. Which would be a shame because it’s a pretty cool site. The long-awaited traffic signal for the intersection of 43rd Avenue and 1st Street will be a reality in a few months. Construction on the $2.2 million project is expected to begin next month, according to Kim Graham, the county’s Traffic Engineer. The traffic signal was supposed to be installed in 2015, but it got pushed back to ’16. Treat of the week: Frank Formica, a retiree who works part-time at Bob Evans, loaned me his copy of the first issue

of Sports Illustrated – with a publication date of Aug. 16, 1954. It’s incredible to see how much the world has changed since then. Speaking of Bob Evans, I received one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever received when I did a restocking of Lemmon Lines. When I arrived, Bill Scott introduced himself and extended his hand for a copy. “Thanks,” he said. “And thanks for doing this.” My pleasure, Bill. Thanks to those who emailed me with their “Stranded on a Desert Island” items. (Send your lists to russ@lemmonlines.com.) You’re up, Melissa Morales. “Book: ‘The Outsiders’ by S.E. Hinton. Album: ‘Take This to Your Grave’ by Fall Out Boy. Movie: ‘In Time.’ Person to be stranded with: Scott Eastwood.” As I told Melissa, I had never heard of “In Time” or Scott Eastwood!
