The Bayhealth Emergency and Trauma Center, Sussex Campus (ED) is nearly three times as big as the previous Bayhealth Milford Memorial ED. Julianne Wysocki, DO, medical director of the Bayhealth Emergency and Trauma Center, Sussex Campus, says the ability to do certain procedures at the bedside, room for diagnostic equipment and the ability to care for multiple injuries in a trauma situation are some of the benefits the additional space will provide for staff and patients alike. Here are some other ways the new ED is built around you. MORE TREATMENT BAYS There is a total of 30 bays, including two designated trauma bays with the capacity to hold two patients each. DEDICATED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SUITE This area provides a quiet and stable environment for patients requiring this type of care. The addition of the behavioral health suite also increases privacy and security for all patients. ADDITIONAL SECURITY A security guard is posted outside in the lobby and the ED is badge access, further improving security for patients and staff. EASIER ACCESS TO OPERATING ROOM & IMAGING There are elevators near the ED that go directly to the OR, while Imaging is located close by; both of these features will save time when treating patients. ONE CENTRALIZED LOCATION All patients are in one location rather than split into a main ED and “fast track.” EMPLOYED DOCTORS Bayhealth recently began employing the doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who work in all three of its EDs versus using them on an independent, contracted basis. This has resulted in more staffing and a better patient experience and flow.
