Molding future physicians starts with With July 2021 rapidly approaching, Bayhealth’s Family Medicine Residency Program Director Brintha Vasagar, MD, and Internal Medicine Residency Program Director Joseph Deutsch, MD, are busy working behind the scenes interviewing more than 2,900 applicants for their residency programs. The Internal Medicine Residency Program has 13 residency spots to fill for its first group of postgraduate year-one residents (PGY-1), while the Family Medicine Residency Program is busy interviewing to fill their eight residency spots. Both programs will begin their

inaugural year with their first classes of residents on July 1, 2021. Once interviews are complete for both programs, Drs. Vasagar and Deutsch will select their top candidates to fill the residency spots. The applicants will also choose their top residency programs. Once the matching is complete through a computer algorithm used nationwide, the Bayhealth Family Medicine and Internal Medicine residents will be officially announced on Match Day, March 19, 2021. “Match Day is always an exciting event for residency programs, but this year is momentous as we

select the very first residents to train in Kent and Sussex counties,” said Dr. Vasagar. In addition to conducting interviews, Drs. Vasagar and Deutsch are developing the curricula for their residency programs. The programs have a strong emphasis on well-being for both the residents and their patients. “The Internal Medicine Residency Program curriculum will focus on training physicians to deliver healthcare that is effective, efficient, timely, and patientcentered.
