Deirdre Graddick Heart of Service Award The Deirdre Graddick Heart of Service Scholarship was established in honor of Foundation Member Deirdre Graddick. In 2018 while serving as co-chairman of the Cotillion, she experienced some health challenges. After a few medical exams it was determined that Deirdre needed a heart transplant. Throughout the program, she continued to check in on the progress of the Pearls to make sure they stuck with the program and did their service. Deirdre is a servant leader, and you could find her at almost every program and service activity for the sorority. She also serves faithfully for Spellman College.

Linda P. Calloway Leadership Award The Linda P, Calloway Leadership Scholarship was established to award young leaders for their active community engagement and leadership skills. Linda P, Calloway was a charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Sigma Omega Omega Chapter. She was a supporter of education for all children and a leader in the community, the sorority, and her church. The family of Linda P. Calloway has also established a Legacy Scholarship open to young women pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Man of Honor Essay Contest The Man of Honor Essay Contest was established for young men who serve as escorts for the debutantes. Each escort was invited to write an essay about the importance of leadership and community service. Escorts should share how they have been a leader and participated in a service project that has been impactful.

Congratulations and best wishes to the exquisite Debutantes, our Pearls! The Cotillion serves as the culmination of the 2023 T.E.A. Rose Debutante Cotillion & Scholarship Program where the participants are presented to society. The Debutantes engaged in a six-month journey that consisted of leadership development, confidence building, college preparation, etiquette training, money management, branding and community service while learning to navigate through a unjust society and being a voice of encouragement to their peers . We were very excited to have the Escorts join and participate in some of the workshops/activities. It has been truly exciting to interact with such a group of intelligent, talented, and delightful young ladies and gentlemen. Pearls and Escorts thank you for your dedication.

We salute and thank the parents of the Debutantes and Escorts who allowed us the opportunity to work with their daughters and sons. This night would not have been a success without your support, time, and commitment.

Greetings, On behalf of the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Sigma Omega Omega Chapter, it is my distinct honor to welcome you to the 2023 T.E.A. Rose Debutante Cotillion. Though our world has been filled with political and social unrest, the extraordinary group of young ladies making their debut tonight have demonstrated unparalleled optimism, exceptional character, and impressive leadership qualities—all traits that our world so desperately needs. Parents, you are to be commended for your unwavering support and commitment to your children’s social development as they prepare to finalize their high school experience. I had the pleasure of interacting with each of your daughters and sons (escorts) when I provided their dining etiquette training. They are simply amazing young adults! I was deeply impressed by their thoughtfulness, intelligence, ambition, and kind hearts. As such, I congratulate you, dear parents, for raising such wonderful and accomplished young adults. We also extend many thanks to everyone who supported the debutantes’ fundraising efforts, volunteered their gifts and talents by presenting training sessions and workshops, purchased tickets to witness this grand occasion, and offered words of encouragement and support to these incredible young ladies. The magical moments of this entire experience have all been made possible by the extraordinary Cotillion Committee, led by Mrs. Marcheria Jessie. Congratulations, ladies, on a job well done! Your creativity, innovation, and diligence are unparalleled. To my darling debutantes, we look forward to witnessing the extraordinary contributions you will all make to society. Though our final event culminates tonight, know that we will always be here for you as you navigate your path and cultivate the dreams of your hearts. Keep your focus and work your plans because you are all destined for greatness! Soaring in Service,

Nia M. Brown President

It is with extreme excitement and pleasure that I welcome you to the 2023 T.E.A. Rose Debutante Cotillion and Scholarship Program. We are excited to celebrate with the participants, families, and supporters as we debut our “Exquisite Pearls: The Essence of T.E.A. Rose”. This has been an amazing year for the Debutante program, as we have experienced precipitous growth. The cotillion committee and I were delighted to have 30 young ladies interested in growing socially and culturally through the program. This is a record year for the Foundation, as this year marks the highest amount of in-person debutante participation in the history of our program. I am so very proud of the commitment and dedication of each Pearl over the last six months. Working with such creative, intelligent, and beautiful young women has been my true pleasure. I hope that the memories from the different workshops, activities, community service, and new friendships they have gained remain with them forever. It has truly blessed me to meet and get to know each of these young ladies. I am also so very proud of the young men who volunteered to be escorts in the program, giving of their time and commitment to graciously serve. Please allow me to extend a special thank you to the parents, guardians, family and friends of our Debutantes and Escorts. This night would not have been possible without your support, commitment, and participation. Thank you for sharing your daughters and sons with us during this most memorable time of their High School years. As the committee chairman, I must also thank the T.E.A. Rose Debutante Cotillion Committee. Each member has dedicated a great deal of their time and talent to the program to ensure each of our Pearls and Escorts had a memorable experience. Thank you for your unselfish commitment, diligence, and countless hours of service. Thank you to the Legacy of Pearls Foundation, Incorporated, and Sigma Omega Omega Chapter, for your unwavering support of the program, the Debutantes, and the cotillion committee. Thank you for entrusting me as Chairman for this current cotillion cycle. This marks our 6th year of our annual cotillion, and with the commitment and dedication of both our Foundation and our Chapter the cotillion program shall continue to grow and flourish each year. Lastly, to all of our Precious Pearls, I can’t wait for you to show the world how great you are! Seek knowledge and become educated, not just academically, but spiritually and emotionally. Relish in your power and seek to empower others. You are exquisite young ladies; let your beauty shine from the inside out! With Love,
