Cultural Park Theater

Summer Camp 2021 Cultural Park Theaterʼs Triple Threat Theatre Summer Camps are perfect for serious, aspiring performers, as well as for kids who just want a super-fun, creative outlet - a place to discover and gain solid skills that will serve them on stage and throughout life. To our campers and camper parents. While under the Covid 19 restrictions, Cultural Park has been working hard to explore the options for how to offer our campers a true summer theater camp experience and still stay safe in this time of social distancing. The health and safety of everyone in our camp community is always our highest priority. Like you, we have been watching the updated recommendations from local authorities as we prepare for the summer season. In addition to local experts, we are also keeping up-to-date on state-level decisions, and we are continually monitoring guidance and advice issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Camp Association (ACA). Based on guidelines that weʼve seen so far, we have decided to fully explore how to take the best parts of Cultural Parks Camps and provide them through a combination social distancing and the joy of a live production. We believe that this will be the best way for us to ensure that we can deliver a consistent experience for your children. Cultural Park is taking every precaution to help campers maintain social distance • Class size is limited to 35 students- Registration Starts April 1. • Campers Temperatures will be checked daily • Staff and Counselors will wear masks • Campers and parents dropping off children are requested to wear masks. • Campers will be broken down into three groups $300 for Each “The Littles” ages 7 to 9 “The Not so Littles” ages 10 to 12 Two-Week “The Teens” ages 13 to 15 Session • We divided the theater into three classrooms • Campers will be eating snacks and lunch in their class room instead of with the whole camp • No fast food lunches • Campers may not leave for lunch • Campers will stay in their classes at pick-up time • All campers will perform in the final show on Saturday at the end of their camp session. Cookie Monster Oreos One package of Double Stuff Oreos One bag of Wilton’s Candy Melts in royal blue Candy eyes Royal blue decorating sugar A box of Cookie Crisp cereal Drinking straws

Directions: • Place candy eyes, and about 24-28 pieces of cookie cereal into two small bowls. • Place parchment paper over flat working surface. • Melt candy melts in microwave in 30 second increments, stirring between until melted and smooth. • Dip Oreo in melts and use a fork to lift out. Tap firmly against side of bowl to remove excess candy and slide along bowl edge as you remove it. • Divide dough into parts and knead in food color gels. • Gently slide covered Oreo onto parchment paper. Immediately sprinkle with sugar, and place eyes (a tweezer helps with this). • Place a piece of cookie cereal in “mouth”. You may need to wait a little bit until the melts harden up a bit and get sticky. I found that a drinking straw placed in front of each one helped hold the cookie in place until it hardened. •Allow little monsters to harden and then share! www.easybaked.net

Blood supply critically low Lee Health is seeking blood donations to help replenish supply levels. Current blood supplies are critically low, and Lee Health’s blood centers are in urgent need of donors. As home to the region’s only trauma center, it is vital that the health system’s blood supply remains at healthy levels in order to quickly care for patients needing an urgent transfusion. Blood and blood products are not only used in the trauma center, but also to treat cancer patients, premature babies, anemia and a variety of other conditions. Lee Health’s blood centers are the sole supplier of all blood products for the entire health system. About 800 units of blood are needed per week, and the blood centers rely on life-saving donations from the community to maintain inventory levels. The Lee Health Blood Mobile will be at numerous locations throughout Southwest Florida in May. All blood donated at Lee Health stays within the health system to care for patients in Southwest Florida. If unable to attend one of the upcoming blood drives, donations can also be made at one of Lee Health’s blood centers to help save lives. Teen drivers

What parents, teens need to know Motor vehicle crashes are the second leading cause of death for U.S. teens. In 2018, 2,500 teens aged 13-19 were killed in motor vehicle crashes, while another 285,000 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in the crash (according to the CDC). Every day about 7 teens aged 13-19 die due to motor vehicle crashes and hundreds more are injured. These crashes are predictable and preventable. Per CDC, teen drivers ages 16-19 are 3 times more likely to be in a fatal crash, than drivers ages 20 and up, per mile driven. The crash risk is the highest during the first 6 months of driving.

Know the danger zones:

Make sure you and your teen driver are aware of the leading causes of teen crashes and injuries. • Driver inexperience (practice at least 50 hours or more) • Driving with teen passengers (limit your teen to zero or one passenger for the first 6 months) • Nighttime driving (practice driving with your teen at different times of the day)

• Not using seatbelts (buckle up every trip, all the time) • Distracted driving (put all distractions away) • Drowsy driving (get 8 hours of sleep a night) • Reckless driving (follow the rules of the road) • Impaired driving (do not drink alcohol or use drugs.)

Teens Top 4 things to keep in mind before getting behind the wheel:

• Buckle up (proven to reduce risk of serious injury or death by one-half) • Do not drink or do drugs before getting behind the wheel • Put all distractions away (turn cell phone off, do not text or use social media while driving) • Take the time to familiarize yourself with the vehicle (especially if this is the first time using it lights, turn signals, adjust mirrors and steering wheel, etc.) Syndi Bultman, R.N., Trauma Injury Prevention & Resource Coordinator, Lee Health. Free autism screening for young children May 21 in Fort Myers Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Florida, offers a free monthly autism spectrum disorder screening for toddlers 18 months to five years of age. The next screening will be held on May 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pediatric Specialist Office, 15901 Bass Rd, Suite 102, Fort Myers. It is estimated that one in every 59 children is diagnosed with some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. Medical consultants for the project stress that an early diagnosis can make a vast difference for toddlers and their families. They say early intensive behavioral intervention can make an immense difference not just in the development of the child, but in their families as well. The ASD screening is conducted by the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. The screenings are administered by an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, who has extensive training and experience in typical child development and developmental disorders. A physician referral is not required. To schedule a screening, call 239-343-6838.

Lee Health COVID-19 vaccine appointments open to public As of April 19, anyone 18 and over can now sign up online to receive a COVID-19 vaccination at Lee Health by visiting www.leehealth.vaccine.mychart.com/. You do not need to be a Lee Health patient to get the vaccine. All vaccines will be administered at Gulf Coast Medical Center. After signing up, you will be notified when the vaccine is available to you and given a choice of time slots of available appointments. If Lee Health has multiple brands of COVID19 vaccines in stock, you will be able to select which vaccine you receive. Currently, Lee Health is offering the Moderna vaccine. All self-scheduling appointments must be made online, and Lee Health kindly asks you not to call the hospitals or physician offices to inquire about vaccine appointments as it overwhelms our phone system and keeps others from reaching us for their care. “As Lee County’s community-owned health system, Lee Health is pleased to offer the COVID-19 vaccine to anyone who wants one. Widespread vaccination is the best path to end the pandemic and a return to normalcy, and I encourage everyone in our community to get the vaccine as soon as possible,” Larry Antonucci, Lee Health president & CEO. Per Florida guidelines, vaccine appointments are available for Florida residents only. A mask is required to enter any Lee Health facility. Family News
