The Sound of Music

The family musical The Sound of Music is on the Broadway Palm stage July 8 through Aug. 8. The Sound of Music is based on the book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers and the 1965 film starring Julie Andrews. This Rodgers and Hammerstein musical has touched the hearts of audiences around the world for decades. Follow Maria, the high-spirited, aspiring nun as she is sent from her convent to be the governess to seven unruly children of a strict father, Captain von Trapp. The children eventually come to like Maria and she finds herself falling in love with the captain. Cultural Park Theater

July 6 - 17 for ages 7 to 15 Join us at for a fun-filled summer theater camp for campers to gain hands-on experience in musical theater, acting, dance, voice and technical production. Cultural Park is taking every precaution to help campers maintain social distance. Weekend immunization clinics in July

help kids get ready to go back to school The Florida Department of Health in Lee County (DOH-Lee) is reminding parents of kindergartners, 7th graders, out-of-state, transfer and college students to make sure their children’s immunizations are up to date before the start of the new school year. The department is accepting appointments for back to school immunizations and will be hosting weekend clinics in July, only for back to school immunizations, at two locations. The weekend clinics will be held Saturday, July 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3920 Michigan Ave. in Fort Myers and on Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 83 Pondella Road in North Fort Myers. All students are required to receive the Tdap booster before entering 7th grade. Children may receive the Tdap booster as early as age 11. Vaccines are free of charge for children through age 18. Appointments are also available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m.

Florida’s theme parks reopening

Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in Lake Buena Vista plan to begin a phased reopening in July, pending approval from local and state authorities. SeaWorld, Aquatica and Discovery Cove parks in Orlando reopened June 11. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has a large collection of roller coasters, and world-class shows provide entertainment for all ages. The animal habitats are home to more than 200 species of animals. Busch Gardens reopened June 11.

Fun, colorful and inspirational, Legoland is where awesome awaits for families looking for a great day out, or the ultimate shortbreak experience. Each Legoland is bursting with interactive family rides, live shows, building workshops, and amazing attractions, including awe-inspiring Miniland areas reflecting iconic buildings and attractions from the resort location. Legoland Florida reopened June 1.

Universal Parks & Resorts began a phased reopening of Universal Orlando Resort beginning June 5. The reopening will be carefully managed and include a wide range of new and enhanced best-practice health, safety and hygiene procedures based on guidelines from the CDC and health officials. The reopening includes Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal’s Volcano Bay.
