Communications & Marketing services encompass a wide range of activities aimed at promoting your organization, a product, or a service and effectively communicating with target audiences. Communications & Marketing is crucial so that organizations can connect with those they serve, build awareness about the organization, and maintain a positive reputation. LEARN’s Communications staff are available to create and manage advertising; create and distribute press releases; organize events; build infographics, brochures, and sell sheets; create and execute social media strategies; review and make recommendations on an organization’s website; and set up your brand identity.

Facilitation

Facilitation is a process of guiding and managing group interactions to achieve specific goals or outcomes effectively. LEARN’s staff are neutral, trained individuals who help groups of people work collaboratively, and encourage open communication, active participation, and constructive problem solving. Our staff ensure that groups stay on track, maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere, and reach consensus or a desired outcome.

Grant Writing

ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS Project Management

Project Management is the process of planning, organizing, executing, and evaluating the resources, tasks, and activities required to achieve specific objectives within a defined timeframe and budget. LEARN’s staff take a systematic approach to ensure that projects are completed efficiently, effectively, and successfully.

Stakeholder Survey Development

Stakeholder Survey Development is the process of creating a structured and well-designed survey to gather feedback, opinions, and input from various stakeholders involved in or affected by a particular project, program, or organization. LEARN’s staff help organizations identify the purpose of a survey; define the target audience; set objectives and research questions; choose a survey methodology; design and distribute the survey; and analyze and interpret the data.

Strategic Planning Facilitation

Strategic Planning Facilitation is a specialized form of facilitation focused on guiding organizations through the process of developing a strategic plan. The process involves defining an organization’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives, as well as determining the actions and resources needed to achieve them. LEARN’s staff play a key role in helping leaders and stakeholders collaboratively navigate the planning process and create a clear, actionable, and future-oriented strategy.

Website Review

LEARN’s staff assess and evaluate an organization’s website design, functionality, content, and the overall user experience. The goal of the Website Review is to provide constructive feedback to help an organization enhance their online presence and increase user satisfaction.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable are two fundamental components of an organization’s financial management system. LEARN’s Business staff are available to help you maintain a healthy financial operation by tracking the flow of money into and out of your organization.

Audit Preparation

Audit Preparation is the process of getting ready for an audit, a systemic examination of your organization’s financial records. Proper audit preparation can help ensure a smooth and successful audit process. LEARN’s Business staff, with expertise in educational business, work with you to organize your financial documentation; review previous audit reports; understand applicable auditing standards; perform internal pre-audits; prepare personnel for audit visits; perform reconciliations; and verify compliance.

The Audit Finding Remediation process should be a structured approach to address and resolve any issues identified during your audit. Bank Reconciliation processes ensure the accuracy and consistency of your organization’s financial records and account statements. These processes are important components of your organization’s internal controls. LEARN’s Business staff gather information from your internal records; compare deposits and receipts; match withdrawals and payments; check for outstanding items; and reconcile the ending balance. Our staff work on your behalf to maintain accurate financial records and help safeguard the financial integrity of your organization.

Budgeting

Budgeting is a crucial financial planning and management process that involves creating a detailed plan for revenues and expenditures. The primary purpose of budgeting is to allocate resources effectively, set financial goals, and guide financial decisions to achieve those goals. LEARN’s Business staff help you use your budgeting process as a tool for financial success, stability, and future planning. Our staff monitor expenditures, provide accurate forecasting, and prepare reports for your Board or other governing body.

Coaching/Mentoring

Coaching/Mentoring is a process of professional development in which a LEARN Business staff person, with expertise in educational business, works with an individual or group of individuals to continuously improve an organization’s internal processes, procedures, and policies.

Documentation of Policies & Procedures

LEARN has over 160 policies and procedures that are part of our system of internal controls. These policies and procedures help to onboard and cross-train staff. LEARN’s Business staff help identify your policies and procedures, as well as help document those in standardized formats across your key processes.

Education Financial System (EFS) Reporting The EFS is a mandatory State of Connecticut report of all school expenditures. LEARN’s Business staff assist with your EFS reporting by standardizing your own processes, training staff, or managing your reporting temporarily.

Financial Reporting

LEARN’s Business staff are available to help identify key required reports necessary to capture budgeted and actual expenditures, projections, and year-over-year comparisons. Our staff work with you to develop reports into meaningful documents for your Board or other governing body.

Food Service Operations

The main goal of Food Service Operations is to promote healthy eating habits, support students’ academic performance, and ensure that students have access to proper nutrition during the school day. Through interdistrict contracts, LEARN’s Business staff facilitate the provision of meals, using LEARN’s food service provider.

Grant Accounting

Grant Accounting refers to the process of managing and tracking financial transactions and reporting related to grants received by an organization. LEARN’s Business staff are available to help you develop a detailed budget prior to applying for a specific grant; establish accounting records once the grant is awarded; track expenditures related to the grant; allocate costs when appropriate; ensure financial and reporting compliance; report on the grant; and close the grant. Our staff help maintain a clear financial trail, ensure regulations are met, and foster transparency in the use of grant funds.

Request for Proposals (RFP)

A Request for Proposal process is a formal procedure used by organizations to solicit proposals from vendors or service providers for specific projects, products, or services. LEARN’s Business staff identify project needs; create the RFP document; publish and disseminate the RFP; host the pre-proposal conference; evaluate received proposals; help select a vendor; and execute a contract. Our experienced staff ensure your district policies are followed and state requirements are embedded into each step of the process.

MUNIS Expertise

LEARN’s Business staff are trained in Tyler Technologies’ Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software known as MUNIS. MUNIS is a comprehensive financial management system designed specifically for public sector organizations. As trained professionals, our staff support you in a range of MUNIS modules and tools to streamline financial processes, enhance operational efficiency, and improve overall financial management.

Payroll

Payroll is a critical function within organizations that involves the process of calculating and managing employee compensation for the work they perform. Timekeeping and attendance; calculating gross pay; deductions; net pay calculations; payroll taxes; payroll records; payroll compliance; and reporting are all key components. LEARN’s Business staff provide accurate and timely payroll processing to maintain employee satisfaction, comply with legal requirements, and ensure smooth financial operations within an organization. BUSINESSRESOURCES HUMAN SUPPORTS (HR) Employee Handbook Review

An employee handbook is a comprehensive document that serves as a guide for employees about the policies, procedures, and expectations of an organization. LEARN’s Human Resources staff review your handbook to ensure a well-crafted product that promotes consistency, transparency, and compliance, while also fostering a positive work environment.

Employee Training & Assessment

Employee Training & Assessment are crucial components of an organization’s Human Resources strategy. They aim to equip employees with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform their job effectively and ensure continuous improvement in their performance. LEARN’s Human Resources staff are available to design structured learning opportunities, including orientation and compliance training. We are also available to build employee assessments that provide valuable insights into individual and team performance. Assessments may include performance reviews, goal tracking, and competency assessment.

Fingerprinting

In the State of Connecticut, fingerprinting is required for various purposes, including background checks for employment. LEARN’s Human Resources staff offer electronic fingerprinting services to expedite the hiring of school district personnel. These services are available to Local Education Agencies and their job applicants in compliance with State of Connecticut law.

Job Description Reviews

Job Description Reviews are an essential aspect of Human Resources and Organizational Management. Reviews involve the evaluation, analysis, and updating of job descriptions throughout an organization. LEARN’s Human Resources staff review your materials to verify whether the job duties, responsibilities, qualifications, and reporting relationship accurately reflect the current state of the role. Our team looks for alignment with organizational objectives; compliance with employment laws; performance metrics; integration into Human Resources processes; and review schedule. Through these job description reviews, organizations enhance their practices, support employee development, and ensure that all employees understand their roles and responsibilities.

Paraeducator Assessment Testing

Paraeducator Assessment Testing is a standardized evaluation designed to measure the knowledge and skill of individuals seeking employment as paraeducators. The test is offered weekly by appointment at our central office building in Old Lyme.

I-9 Form Review & Processes

The I-9 form is a critical document used for verifying the identity and employment eligibility of individuals hired to work. It is a requirement under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Both employers and employees have specific responsibilities related to the completion and retention of the I-9 form. LEARN’s Human Resources staff help increase your understanding of the requirements associated with the I-9 form and ensure proper completion and retention to remain in compliance with federal immigration laws.

Human Resources Consulting

LEARN’s Human Resources staff provide advice, guidance, and support to organizations on various human resourcesrelated matters. The scope of consulting services is determined by the needs of the requesting organization. Archiving is the systemic process of collecting, organizing, preserving, and storing records, documents, data, or other valuable information for long-term retention and future reference. The objective of archiving is to ensure that important information remains accessible, secure, and usable over an extended period. LEARN’s IT staff help you implement robust archiving practices to safeguard data, support business continuity, and retain a historical record of activity.

Break Fix

Break Fix is a term used to describe a service model where IT professionals, in this case LEARN’s IT staff, fix specific issues or problems within an organization’s technology structure. In our model, a LEARN IT staff person is nestled within your organization, available on-demand whenever a problem arises. This partnership between LEARN and our customer provides the customer with immediate IT solutions.

Compliance

IT Compliance refers to an organization’s adherence to relevant laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies concerning the management, security, and privacy of information technology systems and data. LEARN’s IT staff provide organizations with a proactive and holistic approach to safeguard their IT infrastructure, data, and reputation.

Cyber Training & Tools

Critical components of cybersecurity measures, Cyber Training & Tools are aimed at protecting computer systems, networks, and data from cyber threats and attacks. Cyber Training refers to educational programs and initiatives designed to enhance individuals’ knowledge and skills related to cybersecurity. Cybersecurity Tools are software and hardware solutions that help detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats. LEARN’s IT staff recommend and design training appropriate for your needs, as well as recommend and maintain tools to safeguard your organization.

Data Backups & Data Migration

Data Backups refer to the process of creating copies of important digital data and storing them in a secure location to ensure data recovery in case of data loss, system failures, or cyberattacks. Data Migration refers to the process of moving data from one storage location or system to another. LEARN’s IT staff properly execute backups and migration so an organization’s data integrity remains intact and data management practices are efficient.

Google Workspace Support is available from our LEARN IT staff and is in place to assist an organization with technical and administrative issues related to Google Workspace.

Using activities, tools, and protocols aimed at monitoring, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining, LEARN staff proactively address network issues, minimize downtime, and ensure the network meets the organization’s requirements.

Firewall Management is the configuring, monitoring, and maintaining of firewalls to protect a computer network from unauthorized access, cyber threats, and security breaches.

Network Security is a critical aspect of information security that focuses on protecting computer networks, devices, and data. LEARN’s IT staff ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability

of network resources and information, guarding against various forms of cyberattacks.

PowerSchool Training & Reporting

PowerSchool Training & Reporting are two essential components of the PowerSchool education technology platform. The two components work together to empower educational institutions with the tools and insights necessary to foster student success, streamline administrative processes, and enhance the overall educational experience. LEARN’s PowerSchool staff have years of training from PowerSchool University and stand ready to support new and veteran staff to optimize the tool.

Procurement

IT Procurement is the process of acquiring information technology hardware, software, services, and solutions to meet the technological needs of an organization. LEARN’s IT staff develop a strategic approach to selecting vendors, negotiating contracts, and purchasing IT resources that align with an organization’s IT strategy and objectives.

Server Management

Server Management is the process of overseeing and maintaining the operation, performance, security, and availability of computer servers. LEARN’s IT staff offer effective server management that ensures servers run smoothly, efficiently, and securely.

BUSINESS SUPPORTS STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES (SSS) Programs Developmental Disabilities Programming

LEARN’s multidisciplinary team creates comprehensive, customized learning opportunities to support and enhance the educational experiences of individuals with complex needs. Our team fosters their growth, independence, and overall well-being. The program serves students ages 3-21 (22). To support each learner, the team uses a variety of approaches, including the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and evidence-based teaching practices to build toward long-term life goals.

Diagnostic Services Placements

LEARN’s diagnostic team of professionals work to identify the specific learning needs, disabilities, or developmental areas that may be affecting a student’s performance or overall educational experience. Our team consists of experts from a variety of fields, including psychiatry; psychology; nursing; special education; speech and language pathology; and occupational and physical therapy. The team provides school districts with a comprehensive plan to determine a student’s least restrictive environment.

Social-Emotional & Behavioral Disabilities Programs

LEARN’s Student Support Services programs incorporate customized learning opportunities, social and behavioral support, and therapeutic elements focused on positive relationships linking back to family and community. This creates the context for students to build the skills needed to be resilient community members who practice self-care

and empathy and who can establish relationships both in and out of school. LEARN’s staff understand that socialemotional well-being is essential for academic success and overall personal growth. Our programs are designed to empower students to thrive in both academic and social environments.

Secondary Transition Programming

LEARN’s team of specialized educators work to empower students with significant disabilities to transition successfully into adulthood. Through a customized, personcentered, and collaborative approach, our team works closely with students, families, schools, and community partners to ensure a comprehensive and tailored transition plan that promotes independence, employment, and meaningful engagement in the community.

Professional Learning Experiences

LEARN’s Student Support Services staff, with experience in highly specialized fields, co-develop targeted, customized learning opportunities with school district staff. The overall

goal is to support schools and educators in continuous learning, leading to improved student outcomes.

School & Program Reviews

LEARN’s Student Support Services staff collaborate with school district staff to provide an unbiased, objective analysis of current practices and systems to create a plan for continuous improvement. The review captures both general education and special education practices that are coupled with data to form recommendations for continued growth. The process is highly customized. It focuses on essential questions and is co-designed to meet the school district’s goals.

Related Services and Behavioral Consultation & Coaching

LEARN’s specialized staff have a breadth of expertise to support programming and needs within a school setting. Supports can be embedded staff members, ongoing regular consultation, program development, or responding to specific individual student needs. The consultation is built based on mutual goal setting to meet the school district’s needs.

BUSINESS SUPPORTS STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES (SSS) Specialized Evaluations

LEARN’s Student Support Services staff use a culturally responsive frame to identify specific learning difficulties, disabilities, second language acquisition, or developmental issues that may be affecting a student’s academic performance and overall educational experience. Our team typically consists of experts from various fields and includes psychiatrists; psychologists; special educators; speech and language pathologists; occupational therapists; multilingual experts; and educational diagnosticians. The team conducts assessments and evaluations of students, develops individualized education plans, and makes recommendations for interventions. Recommendations are designed to promote effective learning and enhance overall educational outcomes.

Trauma Informed Care Training Programs

LEARN’s Trauma Informed Care Training Programs focus on understanding and addressing trauma within educational settings. Our programs aim to effectively equip educators, administrators, and school staff to support students who have experienced trauma. Key components covered include understanding childhood trauma; trauma-informed school practices; recognizing trauma signs and triggers; trauma sensitive classroom strategies; building resilience; self-care for educators; policy; and systemic change.

Early Childhood Education Early Childhood Consultation & Coaching

LEARN’s Early Childhood staff customize learning experiences to meet program needs. The overall goal of this service is to provide on-site training and coaching that continuously improves programs and leads to improved child outcomes.

School Readiness Grant Coordination

The Connecticut Office of Early Childhood supports the School Readiness Grant Program. This program provides affordable, high-quality early care and education services in high-need communities that help young children prepare for kindergarten. LEARN’s staff, experienced in both early childhood education as well as in the requirements and practices of the School Readiness Grant, provide leadership and support to those receiving School Readiness funds.

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation Facilitation

LEARN’s Early Childhood staff provide leadership and support, information and consultation, and professional learning experiences to programs pursuing NAEYC Accreditation. Services include overviews of NAEYC Program Standards and Accreditation Performance Criteria; technical assistance with the process of accreditation; and individualized support for programs engaged in the self-study.

TEACHING AND LEARNING Using Data in Instruction

LEARN’s Teaching & Learning staff equip educators with the knowledge and skills needed to harness the power of data to enhance their instructional practices and optimize student learning outcomes. In today's data-driven world, educators must understand how to collect, analyze, and utilize data to make informed decisions about their teaching methods and strategies.

LEARN’s Teaching & Learning staff design professional learning to equip educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively integrate technology into their teaching practices.

Teacher Supervision and Evaluation TEAM

The TEAM Program promotes excellence, equity, and high achievement for Connecticut students by engaging teachers

in the purposeful exploration of professional practice through guided support and personal reflection. LEARN’s Teaching & Learning staff provide training for mentors and facilitate Module 5 reflection sessions.

Training and Calibration of Evaluators of Teachers and Leaders

Effective leadership has a powerful influence on student outcomes. Training and Calibration of Evaluators of Teachers and Leaders is a session that provides an overview of the Connecticut Guidelines 2023 for Educators, including classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and student support specialists. This new model includes cycles of Continuous Improvement and is designed to align professional learning plans with professional practice to support improved outcomes for all students.

Instruction and Assessment Blended Learning Strategies

Blended Learning is an educational approach that combines traditional face-to-face instruction with online or digital learning methods. LEARN’s Teaching & Learning staff help organizations leverage the strength of both in-person and online learning to create more flexible and personalized learning experiences for students.

Instructional Coaching

Instructional Coaching offers personalized support and feedback to educators, fostering continuous professional growth and improved teaching practices. Building Thinking Classrooms

Building Thinking Classrooms involves creating learning environments that prioritize critical thinking, problem-solving, and metacognition. Educators encourage students to question, analyze, and evaluate information, fostering intellectual curiosity and deep understanding. Through inquiry-based activities, collaborative discussions, and reflective practices, students develop higher-order thinking skills. The goal is to cultivate independent and adaptable thinkers who can apply their knowledge effectively in various real-life scenarios.

High Leverage Tier 1 Strategies

High Leverage Tier 1 Instructional Strategies are researchbased, effective teaching approaches used for all students in the general classroom setting. These strategies focus on essential content, differentiation, and active student engagement. They include explicit instruction, formative assessment, cooperative learning, and scaffolding techniques. iChoose Success (iCS)

iChoose Success (iCS) is designed to coach young adults towards recognizing, understanding, and developing their natural strengths as tools for exploring leadership and fulfilling professional and personal paths in their future. Using virtual reality career exploration and workforce training software coupled with face-to-face engaging individual and small group activities, iCS aims to guide young adults towards professional and personal paths to which they will feel connected, and through which they can emerge as driven, responsible, and prosperous members of their communities.

Equity in Education Culturally Responsive Practices

Culturally Responsive Practices in schools aim to equip educators with the knowledge and skills to better understand and incorporate students’ diverse cultural backgrounds into the learning process. These workshops provide strategies for culturally responsive teaching, fostering inclusive classrooms, and honoring students’ identities. Equity Strategic Planning is a process that aims to create a comprehensive roadmap for an organization to promote inclusivity in all aspects of its operations. It involves setting clear goals, implementing targeted initiatives, and allocating resources to address disparities and promote diversity.

Increasing Educator Diversity

At each stage of the hiring practice there is the possibility of bias entering the selection of candidates. Each stage also provides the opportunity to create a wider net to attract candidates from marginalized communities. LEARN’s Teaching & Learning staff offer anti-bias training for hiring managers. Our team also provides support in creating the Connecticut mandated District Plan to Increase Educator Diversity.
