Seaford College SPORT
Saturday, 27th September, 2025

Welcome from the Director of Sport
This week has certainly kept us on our toes. With another week of cancellations from our opposition, we have had to adapt and shuffle the sporting calendar around – a bit like playing Tetris with fixtures! Thankfully, we have managed to ensure that most students still have the chance to take part in their chosen activities, and with our coaching options running alongside, there’s been no shortage of sport and physical activity on offer. Due to circumstances outside of our control, flexibility seems to be our theme this term, and I’m pleased to say the students, staff and our parents have risen to the challenge brilliantly. Please read the attachment with an update from Mr Thomson (Rugby) and Mrs Teague (Hockey) regarding this weekend.

The energy and positivity around Seaford Sport has been infectious, and it has been great to see students throw themselves into everything from rugby and hockey to equestrian and netball. Speaking of rugby, we wish the England Red Roses every success in their Rugby World Cup Final at Twickenham (yes, yes, I know it is technically Allianz Stadium, but I can’t bring myself to say it either). Our very own Red Rose, Mrs Lyne, will be there – keep an eye out for her feature on BBC Sussex. I have told her we expect a good word for Seaford Sport slipped in between stories of tries and tackles!
On a personal note, I have been genuinely encouraged by the number of parents and students who have stopped me for a chat about sport at Seaford. It is always uplifting to hear just how much our community cares about the sporting journeys of our students. Rest assured, we are already thinking about ways to work even more closely together. And yes, if you see me scribbling notes around the campus, it is probably another one of my “bright ideas” for how we may make things even better.
Looking ahead, details about our Remembrance Service and Sports Dinner will be shared very soon. Both are set to be truly special occasions as we welcome back Old Seafordians and a number of esteemed guests at the dinner. It promises to be a memorable moment to connect past and present, and to celebrate what makes this community so unique.
For now though, I will keep things short as I am off to join the sailing club (I must remember my waterproofs). To all our students in fixtures this weekend: stay in the moment, enjoy pulling on the jersey and remember to play to your strengths, then work on making those strengths even stronger for the team And above all, enjoy it.
Go well!

Additional Medical Support
To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.
I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations
As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
Dogs on the School Site
We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct
For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.
One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.
We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
