Seaford College SPORT

Saturday, 20th September, 2025

Welcome from the Director of Sport

It has been a fantastic week of sport at Seaford College. We believe we may have seen a record number of students participating in fixtures, training sessions and activities across the school, with Outdoor Education also playing a significant role in ensuring so many of our young people were physically active. That breadth of opportunity is what makes Seaford Sport so special, and it is brilliant to see so many students embracing it with such enthusiasm.

This coming week promises to be just as exciting. On Friday evening, our 1st XV take to the field under the lights in what is set to be a memorable night of school rugby. We warmly encourage the whole community to come along and lend their support; it makes such a difference to our players when they can hear and feel the energy of Seaford behind them.

Saturday’s fixtures are also set, with both hockey and rugby showing creativity in adapting around our busy Open Morning schedule. Ensuring our students still receive their weekly “fix” of sport has been a priority, and I am delighted that we can provide this balance between competition and whole school events.

This week has also given me the pleasure of meeting more of our Prep School families, and I look forward to continuing those conversations with many more at the upcoming coffee morning on Wednesday, 24th September. These opportunities to connect with our community are hugely valuable and help us to continue building the culture of our Seaford Way

As always, my message to our students remains the same: play as a team and endeavour to out-enthuse your opposition. But remember, your role in the team is not limited to the minutes you spend on the pitch. It is forged in the way you prepare during the week, the positivity you show in conversations with coaches and teammates, and in the simple but powerful acts of encouragement, the “well done”, the recognition of a teammate’s effort.

I would also urge all of you to value the post-match experience as much as the match itself. Sitting together, eating together, laughing and reflecting on the game are vital parts of being in a team. These moments deepen friendships, strengthen bonds and create the memories you will carry long after school.

Finally, a word of thanks to our dedicated staff. The heavy rain and strong winds have certainly tested our preparations, but our grounds remain in superb condition, thanks to the tireless work of our estates team. It has also been wonderful to see spectator numbers continue to grow. Your presence and support mean so much to our students, and they help create the atmosphere that makes Seaford Sport so unique.

Good luck to all of our teams this week. Play with energy, play with pride and, above all, enjoy the experience.

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
