The Soundings December 1, 2017 A letter from our President Serena West

LCSC EVENTS ***

It's the most wonderful time of the year and I'm so glad that so many of you continue to choose to spend time with LCSC each month! From luncheons to Subclubs, the turnouts at each event and the support you've provided for our various donation drives has been nothing short Photo credit: Casey Obringer Photography of wonderful! Last month's Friendsgiving luncheon was particularly exciting because it was the beginning of what we hope will be many joint events as we welcomed members of the McChord Spouses' Club. As part of this joint base community, it is important to us as a Board to continue to strengthen our relationship with their club, thus creating a broader sense of community, despite our differing service affiliations. This month we look forward to seeing you at our special holiday "luncheon", graciously hosted by our Honorary President, Mrs. LeAnn Volesky. I've had a fantastic time getting to know everyone this year and look forward to lots more fun in the new year!

Our 1st Vice President- Whitney Johnson Well, here we are. It’s the last month of 2017, December! This year almost over and this provides us a time to reflect on the past year and look forward to what’s to come in 2018! We are very thankful for yet another successful Holiday Market on November 4th. It was a great way for the members of the community to come out and get a head start on their holiday shopping! And now, beginning on December 1st and going all the way until Christmas Eve is our Gift Wrap fundraiser! Come by the Lewis Main PX and get your gifts wrapped by units and clubs on JBLM. Your donation Photo credit: Casey Obringer Photography will go to support the units wrapping and will go to support our community grant program which begins in the Spring. They’re both great causes and it saves you from having to wrap all of your gifts!! We hope to see you out at the Lewis Main PX!

Our 2nd Vice President- Caryn Anderson Happy Holidays! We are approaching the end of an awesome year and it has been wonderful to see how strong the Lewis Community Spouses' Club has become! We hope to keep gaining momentum as we prepare for the upcoming year. I am personally thankful for all you have done to care for each other and support the club's goals, including participation and support for fundraisers, social gatherings, and volunteer work. We have truly set a great example for the rest of the Spouses' Clubs across the board. Also, if you’re considering getting involved, please feel free to reach Photo credit: Casey Obringer Photography out to any of the board members - we still have a few open positions and we always welcome more members! Regardless of when you join the club, it's always a great way to meet new people, help those in need, and also have fun! I'm looking forward to seeing you again at our next meeting on 13-DEC!

Wine Club Wine Club met on November 30th at the schoolhouse. The challenge was to go to a tasting room and participate in a tasting and to select a wine you enjoyed to share with the group. Attendees brought an appetizer, snack or dessert to pair it with. *Remember, for every wine club night, bring your own water, glass and $3 for the Left, Right, Center game. *We're looking to decorate ACE Night with wine bottles so if you're willing to save empty wine bottles, we're willing to use them for that event in March. Thank you! * Note: There will not be a meet up in December. Wine Club will resume in January.

Book Club

December’s Pick: Merry and Bright by Debbie Macomber

Book Club Updates: The club discussed a plan for the upcoming few books and a great suggestion was given to plan out the next few book club selections into the new year. This would allow members to squeeze books in when they have time and take more time for the longer books.

To help with picking books, a topic/genre will be selected for each month. air. A topic will be posted to Facebook for each month with the selected theme/genre and members can post suggested books. Topics are: January: Local to the PNW February: Love/Anti Love March: Sci-Fi/ Fantasy * Next event- December 21st: Book Sub Club BOOK SWAP The Book Club will be moving back to the Schoolhouse for the foreseeable future. What this means is that the book club will need hosts for each month. 2 members will bring food and a third member will be in charge of beverages. The December meeting we will be a BOOK SWAP! How this is going to work: - Attendee brings a wrapped book (wrapping, brown, newspaper, whatever!) - Write 3 words on the cover that describes that book - There will be some kind of exchange (surprise, surprise...lol)! Might be white elephant or another Christmasy exchange game. This book does not need to be new and attendees are not expected to buy a book for this. You are welcome to include a notecard in the book on why you selected it for the swap. It can be a book that means something to you, the cover art called to you, or because you were in a hurry and it’s the one that touched their fingertips first!
