Denys Lapointe, executive vice president of BRP’s Design and Innovation Centre, received the NMMA Canada Hall of Fame award for his contributions toward the advancement of the marine industry. This is the association’s highest honor.

Palm Beach Boat Show Returns The 32nd annual Palm Beach International Boat Show returns March 23-26. The event will feature more than $1.2 billion worth of yachts and accessories, including hundreds of boats ranging from 8-foot inflatables to super yachts nearly 300 feet in length. The show will also offer fun and educational activities, including free youth fishing clinics by Hook The Future, IGFA School of Sportfishing seminars, on-water boat handling sessions and long-range cruising clinics. Attendees can also enjoy live music and refreshments at the show’s world-famous floating cocktail lounges. Guests are invited to come by boat and may tie up to free docks located south of the in-water displays. For more information, visit SHOWMANAGEMENT.COM.

Scott Smiles’ 42-foot boat sank in 50 seconds, leaving him, a friend and their two life jacket-clad young sons clinging to a cooler and EPIRB — the only items he had time to grab. The harrowing experience inspired Smiles to develop Life Cell — a self-contained, buoyant device that holds usersupplied safety and survival equipment. An EPRIB can be mounted externally for faster activation. The basic Life Cell, The Trailer Boat, assists 2-4 people and has a grab handle to keep people attached. The Trailer Boat is SOLAS certified, endorsed by the Westpac Life Saver Helicopter Service, and is fire, impact and UV-resistant. For more information, visit LIFECELLMARINE.COM.

MJM Unveils New 35z

MJM Yacht’s most recent model, the 35z, combines performance and a comfortable, all-weather boating design. Thanks to twin 300s and a 250-gallon fuel capacity, the 35z boasts impressive fuel efficiency, 50-plus mph speeds and a 300-plus-mile cruising range. The model’s distinctive features include: Yamaha offshore or Mercury Verado power; joystick docking; sliding glass or roll-up Strataglass sides; a Seakeeper 3.5 DC gyrostabilizer option; a fulllength yacht Bimini option; and fully opening windshields option. The boat is described as a “classic Downeast yacht with a versatile modern layout... open transom, flush deck and side boarding doors,” according to MJM. Below deck, a pair of almost 7-foot berths can be transformed into a double berth configuration with the “filler” option. For more information, visit MJMYACHTS.COM.
