In my capacity as the recently appointed Chairman of the Board, I am excited to present a capital project that we aim to complete within this school year. As the former Chair of the Buildings and Grounds committee, we have been working for many years towards the culmination of these lower-level improvements. Several projects are currently underway that will elevate the campus with tangible and exciting upgrades. First, maximizing the Lower School footprint by creating larger learning spaces, and making much-needed aesthetic improvements, giving our students an even better learning experience. Secondly, with funding from the Parent Faculty Club, we will be refurbishing the sports court and adding turf to the Lower School play area. All of which are expected to be completed by the start of the 2023 academic school year. In addition, the Athletic Locker Rooms, Coaches’ offices, and PE bathrooms will be remodeled and upgraded to better serve our students and teams.

This project aims to enhance the functionality and appearance of these areas to better serve our physical education programs, athletic teams, and coaches. By modernizing and beautifying these spaces, we will greatly improve the overall experience for our students. This endeavor reflects our commitment to excellence and will instill a strong sense of pride in our Warriors, both now and in the future.

As a proud parent of two Lakehill alumni from the classes of 2010 and 2014 and a longstanding member of the Board of Directors, I recognize the significance of this opportunity to positively impact the entire Lakehill community. As a premier education option for the city of Dallas, the campus enhancements will add to the excellence of Lakehill Preparatory School. Research proves that the foundation of productive learning is a creative space that provides collaborative thought and enthusiastic leadership development for our young academicians. Our renovation of the ground floor space will give our younger Warriors the space needed to evolve into excellent thinkers; additionally, the locker room project will be the upgrade that supplies our student-athletes with the championship atmosphere to compete like Warriors.

Lakehill Preparatory School was founded in 1971 to transform the lives of students in our East Dallas neighborhood and beyond. Since that time, we have grown to over 420 students and become a pillar amongst Dallas independent schools with a prominent reputation in East Dallas.

With the unfortunate occurrence of a burst pipe during last winter’s hard freeze, we are presented with the opportunity to broaden the necessary repairs to update our locker rooms and to remodel our Lower School space to reflect the demands of a 21st century education.

To meet the growing needs of our students and to allow our teachers, coaches, and staff to deliver a transformational curriculum and experience to our students, we are expanding on the required repairs to give our students the resources to thrive. A flexible library space and technology updates will provide teachers with ample room and resources to extend the curriculum for our students. Updated Lower School classrooms and bathrooms will better reflect modern classroom best practices as well as the needs of our students today. Collegiate-style locker rooms and new space for coaches’ offices will refashion our athletic areas of the building to the top-quality space that our athletes deserve. This campaign is about updating and transforming our Lower School and athletic spaces to be cutting-edge in today’s educational environment. With your help, we will strategically reimagine these areas for the benefit of all of our students.

The new library and computer lab will be the hub of Lower School serving as a central meeting point, gathering space, and workspace for research, creative projects, and a love of learning. The transformed space with its broad windows and lighting will be open and inviting to students.

The computer lab’s flexible workspace will enable more maker-space collaboration between classroom teachers and computer and library staff. Current students will have their interest in reading, research, and projects reinvigorated by the new space and computer systems. Prospective students will be attracted to the same. This open, inviting space will help our Lower School to look like the warm, inviting space we all know it to be.

The upgrades and transformation of the locker room space reinforce our commitment to our student-athletes. We are a college prep school so having a locker room space that falls more in line with a collegiate locker room is not only beneficial for our current Warriors but for all the future Warriors. Updating the locker room space for our athletes provides an opportunity for our teams to take ownership, strengthen their camaraderie, and take pride in the rich history of successes of the teams that came before them. Lakehill Athletics is in a time of exciting and talented growth. It’s a great time to be a Warrior!

As an architect with a long professional relationship with the school and as a parent of an alum, I’m excited to partner with Lakehill on taking these next steps into the future. We were originally drawn to Lakehill by how poised and articulate the students were that I met during a planning project years ago, and the school delivered on that promise. The strong mentoring relationships that my daughter (Michaela, 2011) established during her thirteen years as part of the Lakehill family, as well as the writing and critical thinking skills she developed as a student, have served her well in college and beyond.
