We are extremely excited to welcome back Summer at Lakehill! Our summer programs will be held from June 3 to July 26, 2024. We hope you find the information in this catalog helpful as you plan your student’s summer activities.

Our camps include limitless opportunities in academics, arts, STEM, sports, summer games and fun, and offer you the opportunity to select from a wide variety of options.

Summer is a time to be creative, explore new worlds, sharpen skills, and have fun, all while being surrounded by a vibrant community! Summer at Lakehill was specifically designed to promote excellence in education, athletics, and recreation while encouraging students to have fun in a creative and supportive learning environment.

Our faculty is at the heart of the summer experience at Lakehill. Their passions, talents, and skills, combined with outstanding energy and enthusiasm, results in the creation of an unforgettable summer for our students.

Welcome to Summer at Lakehill 2024!

At Summer at Lakehill, you’ll find camps that will turn summer into a learning adventure for your student. We’re glad to be back this summer, and we know your student will have a blast at our camps.

Summer at Lakehill is unique in offering quality, teacher-led camps at an affordable price, which includes before-camp (8 am - 9 am) and after-camp (4 pm - 5:30 pm) care every day without an additional fee.

Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Science Center

The state-of-the-art LEED-certified Environmental Science Center houses laboratories, classrooms, and meeting space. With over 40 acres of land to explore, students have the opportunity to experience science and nature in a pristine environment.

Warrior Athletic Complex

L. The Roger L. Perry Campus is less than four miles from Lakehill’s Main Campus. Built in 2001, this 17-acre campus is home to the Warrior Athletic Complex and the Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Science Center. This premier athletic complex is home to the Warriors Football Stadium, Baseball Field, Softball Field, Tennis Courts, and Field House.

The registration deadline for Summer at Lakehill is May 3. Camps that have not received the minimum number of students required for the class by the deadline may be canceled. Notification of any class that has been canceled will be made by May 13. Late registrations may be declined if camps are full, so please be sure to register online by May 3.

Su MMEr AT LAKEHILL CAMP fEES

Summer at Lakehill provides an economical alternative to other summer programs while providing top quality enrichment activities led by certified teachers. Week-long camps are available in a halfday or full-day format. Campers may select a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) camp for a half-day program at $300, or mix and match by selecting one morning and one afternoon camp to constitute a full-day program for $500. Some material-intensive camps will have additional lab or materials fees as well. You may elect to pay half of your camp fee at registration, with the remainder split between automatic payments on June 1 and July 1.

Extended care is included in the cost of camp fees. Students will participate in a variety of activities which could include board games, outdoor games, card games, and crafts. Students should dress for indoor/outdoor play.

Before-care: Available from 8 am - 9 am for students attending a morning or full-day camp. After-care: Available from 4 pm - 5:30 pm for students attending afternoon or full-day camps.

NOTE: After 5:30 pm a late charge will be assessed and collected at the rate of $1.00 per minute, payable upon arrival. The same rate will apply for morning campers not enrolled in afternoon camp who are not picked up by 1:00 p.m.

CA n CELLATIOn P OLICIES

We recognize that sometimes summer plans change unexpectedly. However, because the school must purchase materials and incur other expenses in preparation for these camps, any student who withdraws from Summer at Lakehill after the registration deadline may be subject to a 50% cancellation fee (equal to forfeiture of the deposit). Refunds (minus the cancellation fee) will be available within 30 days of the date of cancellation.

In the event of inclement weather or other factors beyond our control, a camp may be canceled on a given day. If camps are canceled more than one day during a Summer at Lakehill week, prorated refunds for the camp days missed will be issued. There will be no prorated registration fees or refunds given when a camper is absent for other reasons.

In the event that a camp must be canceled due to insufficient enrollment, placement in another camp will be offered or, if requested, the complete registration fee will be promptly refunded.

Throughout the duration of camps at Summer at Lakehill, we ask that parents help their children choose clothing that is modest and appropriate for a school atmosphere. Jeans, shorts, and t-shirts are allowed. Please ensure that your child is wearing recess-appropriate shoes in order to participate in outdoor breaks and activities. Additional dress requirements may be announced on the first day of camp for outdoor camps at the Environmental Science Center.

COdE Of COnduCT

Campers will behave courteously in manner and speech at all times, be respectful of persons in authority and the rights of others, and exercise proper care in the use of materials and equipment. Lakehill reserves the right to dismiss any child whose attitude is not in accordance with the goals and spirit of Summer at Lakehill or whose behavior is considered detrimental to any person or to the school.

LunCH

Campers who enroll for both a morning and afternoon camp should bring a sack lunch with a drink each day. They will remain on campus for supervised lunch time and recess at no additional charge. Lunches will not be refrigerated and microwaves may not be available. Campers will eat with campmates under the supervision of camp instructors.

TrAnSPOrTATIOn

Bus transportation will be provided between the two campuses for campers who are attending morning and afternoon sessions on different campuses. Weekly information will be sent to the email address provided at registration with complete details. Please be sure to add summercamps@lakehillprep.org to your address book to stay up-to-date all summer long.

Calling all entrepreneurs! In this creative camp dedicated to man’s best friend, campers will engage in real-world problem-solving to create and design an imaginary doggrooming business. They’ll master the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to find a location, secure a bank loan, choose equipment, use a blueprint to design different rooms, create and price grooming services, price homemade dog treats, market their business, and more. Daily activities guide campers’ learning as they unlock their imaginations to plan a business venture.

Let the fiesta begin! Experience Hispanic culture through its cuisine. Learn how to make homemade tortillas, tamales, flan, and mucho más while exploring the cultural importance of traditional foods in Spanish-speaking cultures. Campers will prepare a book of recipes to share with friends and family. Dishes prepared in this camp may include gluten, nuts, meats, and dairy.

There is an unimaginably large universe just beyond the horizon. Campers will marvel at the vast size of the sun and the enormity of the solar system and how small it is compared to the vastness of the universe. Explore space through books and hands-on activities such as “galaxy slime” and gas-powered “pop rockets.” Send your imagination to the stars as you design your own imaginary planet. Advance your soccer skills to the next level using the same drills as the Lakehill Varsity and Middle School teams! Become a Medieval apprentice as you discover the fascinating world of the Middle Ages. Be a herald and make your own shield. Who knew the “Dark Ages” could be so much fun?

The silvery orb that brightens our night sky is the inspiration for this camp that blends math, science, and literacy into one luminous experience! Ooh la la! If you love all things fancy, fabulous, and French, you’ll love Fancy Nancy! Join Fancy Nancy in her mission to help others find joy in their lives with fun projects that add color and excitement to the world. You can “do it all yourself” as you design jewelry to wear or share, decorate a fancy dog house, design beautiful hair accessories, host the fanciest tea party, and so much more. Like Fancy Nancy herself, this camp is full of sprinkles, sparkles, glitter, and pizzazz!

This full‐day camp engages campers in meaningful service while strengthening their community. Each day offers a new opportunity to partner with a different community group. Campers will learn about each organization, and then create and complete a service project targeted specifically to them. Certificates documenting their service hours will be presented to campers at the end of the week. This session is full of activities specifically designed for middle and high school campers only.

Put your own twist on some of the greatest paintings from artists around the world, both contemporary and throughout history, such as Van Gogh, Kehinde Wiley, Picasso, Amy Sherald and more. Every day, campers will learn about different artists and take home a completed acrylic painting inspired by those masters. Learn tricks and techniques to elevate your painting game, and stretch your imagination!

This fundamentals-based, non-contact football camp focuses on skills development. Campers will learn proper mechanics for throwing, running, and catching a football. We will also explore the vast world of existing games, such as Mario Bros., Zelda, and sports games old and new to inspire our own creations. Game on!

No, not pulling rabbits out of hats magic. Elves and dragons and goblins magic! This camp is for the collectible trading card game Magic: The Gathering is all about the beginner and intermediate rules of the game, developing early, middle, and late-game strategies, and discovering what it takes to build a competitive Magic deck. Campers will play with (and keep!) cards from recent Magic: The Gathering sets, such as Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Note: There is an additional $50 fee to cover the cost of cards and materials that campers keep.

This camp focuses on proper mechanics and fundamentals of baseball. Campers will practice pitching, throwing, catching, fielding, and batting to round out their individual and team skills. Take home instructions for your newly learned games, and teach your family and friends how to play.

Who says you can’t mix it up when it comes to art? It’s time to break all the rules! Campers will blend many art and design methods and materials, including patterns, negative space, and color schemes to craft unique pieces that blur the lines of traditional art. Sew on a canvas, painting on an object, are there Legos in that sculpture? No two pieces will look the same when campers mix it up!

Delve into the world of myths and legends! Discover how the world got its very first flying unicorn and why it’s always a good idea to thank the crows for teaching you how to dance. Learn to make treats that will please any fairy you might come across and forge a mighty sword for battle against fearsome dragons. The stories might be myths, but the fun will be legendary!

Who knew there were so many ways to have fun with paper?

Come create a dragon, unicorn, or other fantastical creature using recycled materials, plaster, modeling clay, cardboard, foil, wire, paper, tap, and your imagination! We will do a deep dive into using the materials to create items from our imagination, or maybe even just a replica of your favorite pet! Be prepared to get messy! Save your recycled water bottles or paper towel holders to bring with you on the first day of camp!

Pokémon fans unite! This camp for young Pokémon Trainers celebrates the rich history of the original video games, animated series, and card games. Campers will learn about the Pokémon generations that have adapted to match their local regions, from the original Kanto to the latest Paldea evolutions, will create a scrapbook of their favorite Pokémon, and will even get to try their hand at some of the classic Pokémon video games. Campers will also learn the basics of the Pokémon Trading Card Game rules, taking home their own My First Battle! decks! Note: There is an additional $10 fee to cover the cost of cards and materials that campers keep.

Chill out this summer with this camp devoted to all things frozen and fun. Create frozen snow crystals and melting snowmen. Learn how arctic animals stay warm and how penguins stay dry. Discover the amazing things that happen when the temperature drops. You won’t find a cooler camp anywhere else. Don’t be left out in the cold!

Campers will explore classic and modern cartoon culture in this camp devoted to the history and cultural impact of cartoons. That’s all, folks!

You won’t believe how tasty gluten‐free snacks can be! Campers will make all kinds of gluten‐free treats including cookies, muffins, cakes, brownies, and more. Learn how to create your own cake and cookie mixes to use in a number of recipes.
