Candidate Petitions must be turned into the Admin Office by Friday, August 31, 2018. Ballot name order is determined by the order in which Petitions are time stamped.

2018 MANDATORY MOWING

FOR UNIMPROVED LOTS #2 JUL 27-AUG 6 (Report by 12pm Aug 6th)

Report to mowing@golakecarroll.com or call 815-493-2552 ext 127. Provide your Name, Sec & Lot, and date mowed. If you don’t report it, you will be billed for LCA arranging the mowing. Whoever mows (you or a contractor) calls in the report.

ATV / UTV:

1. Hours of Operation 06:00am to 10:00pm 2. Only vehicles with Headlights and Taillights can be used after sunset 3. Vehicles must have a side and/or rear view mirror 4. All operators are required to wear D.O.T. approved helmets and eye protection 5. All vehicles must use a Safety flag (Red or Orange) that projects to a minimum of seven (7) feet above the ground surface.

6. All vehicles must have section and lot number affixed to vehicle, minimum size of numbers is 2 inches.

7. All vehicles must have LCA Decal 8. Vehicles equipped with Seat Belts must be worn 9. Modification to Exhaust systems for the purpose of increasing noise is prohibited 10. The manufactures suggested number of persons per vehicle will be followed within Lake Carroll 11. Operator must be a Licensed Driver 12. Operator must be a Member of the LCA (Guests are not allowed to operate ATV/UTV on LCA roads) 13. Vehicles operating on LCA roadways shall be governed by the Lake Carroll Rules of the Road that include speed limit, signage and direction of travel

GOLF CARTS:

Vehicles operating on LCA roadways shall be governed by the Lake Carroll Rules of the Road that include speed limit, signage and direction of travel 12. Golf carts must yield right of way to licensed motor vehicles and ATV’s / UTV’s

*Golf Carts are prohibited from using trail system **Rules and Regulations regarding trail system have not changed ***ATV’s / UTV’s / Golf Carts are prohibited from travelling on any County or State roadways including Zier Rd., Peace and Quiet Rd., and Payne Rd. per the Carroll County Sherriff. ****Reiterating: Guests are not allowed to drive ATV’s / UTV’s or Golf Carts on LCA Roadways under this trial period for purposes other than from your home to the trail system.

RULES & REGULATIONS The current copy of the Rules & Regulations is available at the Front Desk or may be accessed through the official LCA website: www.golakecarroll.com. Click on Resources>Document Library>Membership-General Info> or Resources>Governing Documents>TITLE V. At this point you may view Association Rules & Regulations., A&E Building Regulations and other membership documents are also available. If you have questions, please call the Office.

ASSOCIATION DUES All Association dues, assessments and fees must be current to be eligible to use the Lake Carroll amenities. Photo ID Membership cards must be presented at the Golf Course, Swimming Pool, Campground, Ski Hill, etc.

If you are paying your Association dues on a quarterly basis, the 1st & 2nd installments must be paid to use the amenities. Third Quarter Payments will be due by July 31, 2018.

Quarterly bills were sent out the last week of June. Bills for the May 2018 mowing will also be sent during this time period. They will also be due on July 31, 2018.

INFORMATION SHEETS New owner packets are sent to our new property owners upon receipt of a copy of the recorded deed, which should be accompanied by the transfer fees (seller is responsible for $150 & the fixed asset reserve fee of $450 is to be paid by the purchaser) and any other outstanding dues or fees. A 2018 Information Sheet is included with this mailing.

This form must be completed and returned to the Association Office. Photos are needed for the Amenity photo ID cards. Decals and guest passes will be processed when we have your information. All vehicles belonging to the property owner and used at Lake Carroll must have a current Association decal displayed. Also, be sure to provide the required registrations and proof of insurance on vehicles, watercraft, ATV’s, golf carts and snowmobiles Members in good standing are the only persons eligible for registration privileges.

HOMEOWNER ADDRESSES As we have previously stated, PLEASE inform the Association Office at 815-4932552 Ext 114 as soon as you become a full-time resident so we may update our address & phone information. All lot owners are requested to forward all contact information (addresses, email addresses or phone numbers). Your cooperation is appreciated.

PHOTO ID MEMBERSHIP CARDS Thanks to all owners who have already had their pictures taken for the Lake Carroll membership cards. Please take the time to stop by the office this summer and have this done. It only takes a small amount of time.

Please remember, photos for ID’s must be a clear head and shoulder shot with the subject facing the camera and full head features (face and hair) are visible. No hats or sunglasses accepted. We will not accept scans or copies of other ID’s that contain holograms.

The Front Desk is available to take your picture(s) Monday through Saturday between the hours of 9:00AM & 3:00 PM. MARINA CONCESSION INVOICING PROCEDURES These procedures are included in the 2018 Rules & Regulations booklet. A current Visa/ MasterCard/American Express form must be on file at the Association Office authorizing the use of your card for marina concession purchases. Payments of Marina concession invoices are due within 15 days of purchase. Bills will not be sent. If no payment is received at the Association Office within the 15-day timeframe, the amount due will be processed with the Visa/Master Card information on file.

If no payment is made within the 15-day timeframe and there is NO Visa/MasterCard/ American Express on file, the Association may curtail your privilege of utilizing this method of payment at the Marina. Questions regarding this procedure may be directed to the Front Desk, 815-493-2552 x110 or 120 You may also pay for your marina concession purchases at the time of sale with cash, check, or you may use your Visa, Master or American Express cards.

BOATER REGISTRATION CARDS There are approximately 368 registered watercraft at Lake Carroll that have an expiration date of 6/30/2018 with the IDNR. The Department of Natural Resources DOES NOT send out watercraft renewal notices. It is your responsibility to make sure your watercraft registration is current. Please refer to our website www.golakecarroll. com >Amenities>Lake & Natural Resources> Watercraft Registration Online Renewal System to link to the IDNR to register online. When you receive your new state of IL logo, you will also receive your new Watercraft Registration card which will have a new expiration date of 6/30/2021. This card is approximately 3”x 5”. The Association office must have a copy of this card on file. Please take the time to bring it to the office (we will copy it) or email a copy to us so we may update your records (be sure it is clearly legible).

You will not receive your watercraft decal next year until we have a copy. Provide it now before you file it away & forget where you put it.

There are approximately 57 additional registered watercraft that have applied for, or a few cases reapplied for, registration with the State of IL. We have your applications for registration on file. You should have sent these into the State with the proper paperwork & monies. The State will then send you your current watercraft decal and registration card (approximately 3” x 5”). The Association will require a copy of this card when you receive it. Future decals will not be issued until we have a current card on file.

Insurance information needs to be updated each year – when you receive your notice from your agent – send us a copy of the new policy for the upcoming year. We thank you for your cooperation.

Letters must be received at the Association office by the 18th of each month unless otherwise specified due to altered deadlines and adhere to the following guidelines: 1. Writers must be LCA members in good standing, reflect their viewpoint, focus on the issues and/or must be of interest to the majority of Lake Carroll members.

2. Letters should not contain personal attacks against any individual(s) or businesses and may not express personal grievances or conflicts.

3. Letters containing libelous material or statements, derogatory remarks or obscenities will not be published or are subject to editing after consultation between submitter and editor.

4. Constructive criticism is acceptable; suggestions on alternative solutions to the concerns are appreciated.

5. Letters are limited to 400 words or less.

6. All letters must bear a signature and LCA section and lot numbers.

7. The Editor, General Manager, and LCA BOD reserve the right to review to accept or deny publication of any Letter to the Editor and to offer a rebuttal within the same issue.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND Memorial Day Weekend went well from a security standpoint. No accidents were reported on the trail. An incident was reported at the West Marina when a subject trying to dock his boat collided with the boat moored next to him, causing minor damage; a report was filed. A minor accident was reported in West Marina parking area when a boat trailer hit the front of a parked vehicle; a report was filed. During Memorial Day weekend the Security Department issued 8 citations and 31 written and verbal warnings, checked 67 fishing licenses and creel limits, checked 1,970 vehicles at the gate, marinas and pool, checked 126 ATV’s / UTV’s, assisted 120 boats at the West Marina, and 22 boats on the water. We also responded to 3 ambulance calls.

FISHING FROM THE MARINA DOCKS Fishing at the marinas is a popular pastime during the summer. When fishing off the docks at the East and West Marinas, please be considerate of other people who are not fishing.

Give them room to get where they are going; try not to leave to much equipment lying on the docks. I always receive complaints from boat owners at the marinas stating disregarded line, lures and hooks being left on buoy ropes or boat covers. This is not only inconsiderate, but dangerous to the boat owner. When fishing from the docks, you cannot fish from a boat moored at the marinas unless you own the boat. If it doesn’t belong to you, it is considered trespassing.

FIREWORKS Fireworks are ILLEGAL at Lake Carroll. In addition, there are property owners, veterans, and pet owners who do not enjoy fireworks. While I realize many of you will receive this edition well after the 4th of July celebrations, but all too often we continue to hear fireworks throughout the summer. If you choose to light fireworks; you will be issued a citation.

2018 DECALS AND GUEST PASSES Make sure your guests have the proper 2018 guest passes and your 2018 LCA decals are displayed on all your registered vehicles, boats, ATV’s, campers, golf carts, etc.

MARINA PARKING When using the marinas during the summer months, please consider carpooling on the weekends, at times do to amount of people enjoying our lake, space can be limited at the marinas.

WATERCRAFT FLAG REMINDERS The boat patrol officers have asked me to clarify the State of Illinois regulation on the use of the orange helm flag while towing. This flag should only be flown when your watercraft is towing one or more persons, such as a skier, tuber, knee boarder, etc. This flag is not meant to be flown at all times, only when towing someone. The flag should not be flown when the watercraft is anchored. If the flag is flown at all times it defeats the purpose of utilizing the flag in the first place.

The Skier Down flag is in addition to the State Helm Flag. It is raised when the person(s) being towed fall and are no longer connected to your watercraft. This alerts other watercraft in the vicinity to be on the lookout for someone in the water.

Both flags are mandatory and are available for purchase at the LCA Admin Office.

PEDESTRIANS With the summer season upon us, it is that time of year when bikers, joggers, and walkers return to the Lake Carroll roadways. Please remain aware that these pedestrians will be sharing the roadways. For those of you who do bike, walk or jog wearing a safety vest is recommended. These bright vests vastly increase your visibility to motorist and can be purchased at the LCA Admin Office or any big box store.

ROADWAY USE HELMET REQUIREMENTS I would also like to clear up some confusion with UTV and ATV regulations. If you own an ATV (a machine with handle bars) you must wear a helmet regardless where you are riding at Lake Carroll. If you own a UTV (a machine with a steering wheel) you must wear a helmet when using the trail system; you are not required to wear a helmet on Lake Carroll roadways.

PETS MUST BE LEASHED I have also been receiving complaints about dogs running freely. Please keep your pets leashed at all times when not on your property.

2018 RULES & REGULATIONS I would like to encourage everyone that has not picked up a 2018 copy of the Rules and Regulations to please do so. They are available at no charge at the LCA Admin Office. They are also available online at golakecarroll.com in the Lake Carroll Code of Ordinances. A couple minutes reviewing the Rules and Regulations can make everyone’s experience more enjoyable at Lake Carroll, not knowing a rule is not an excuse to violate one.

Neighborhood Watch

Last month’s article I dedicated to Claire Holmberg. In that article I mentioned Claire’s passion for her Illinois teams. I also said that she liked the Iowa Hawkeyes. Claire and I had a little inside joke. I would mess with her about her being a Hawkeye fan. We would go back and forth, and then she’d laugh. I put it in the article to see if those closest to her would catch it. They did, so it was good to see some people read it. I’m pretty sure Claire was laughing at me calling her a Hawkeye fan, but just in case I’m covering my butt. Claire was never an Iowa Hawkeye Fan. Last month the LC Board approved the safety and recreation committee’s motion/recommendation to name our aquatic center after Claire. Soon it will be called the Claryce “Claire” Holmberg Aquatic Center. Type of plaque, wording, placement location and date of dedication TBD. BEWARE OF SUMMER SCAMS Summer is here and along with it come all the holiday plans. Make sure that your plans do not include becoming a victim of a scam artist’s trap. Even though there are con artists who run scams all through the year, the statistics for the number of people who fall prey to these scams rise in summer. Despite the number of warnings that are issued every year, there are huge numbers of people who get tricked.

POPULAR SUMMER SCAMS The most popular summer scams are the summer rental scams, summer job scams, concert ticket scams and the door-knocker scams. However, these aren’t the only ones. Here’s a list of all the summer scams that you could become a victim of this year.

SUMMER RENTAL SCAM Finding the perfect summer rental that has all the right elements is not the easiest thing under the sun. You just never seem to find a place that is close enough to the beach, has the right number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and is available at a reasonable price. So if you do find one, don’t pounce on the offer. It is most likely to be a rental scam. The worst part about a rental scam is that you won’t know that you’ve been stood up until you arrive at the site and discover that the place doesn’t exist or that the property was never on sale. Scammers are known for stealing pictures of properties off social media or actual rental websites and selling them at highly discounted prices on sites like Craigslist. The best thing to do before you book a rental is to visit the property in advance. In case you can’t do that, look for reviews about the company online. Copy paste a few words from the ad onto your search browser and check if the ad has been reported. If there are no reviews, ask for references and confirm that the property does actually exist and is available for rent. If you are dealing with a real estate agent, ask for his/her license number and check it. It is advisable to make payments through your credit card so the charge can be reversed if the need arises. However, this can happen only if a cancellation policy is applicable, so don’t forget to read the fine print.

DOOR-KNOCKER SCAMS A door knocker scam can range from protecting an endangered species to someone trying to sell you some product that you just don’t require. The cause or product that the person is offering may be genuine, but the person may not. If you support the cause or like the product and intend to buy it, first ask the salesperson for their permit. Door-to-door salesmen are required to have a permit. If they have a permit you can go ahead with the payment. Make the payment either by credit card or check, but never in cash. If the salesman does not have a permit, do not buy the product from him/her. If you still want to donate to the cause or buy the product, you can always do it online.

WI-FI SCAMS Wi-Fi scams are a mode of conducting theft of sensitive information where a person logs onto a free Wi-Fi network and the scammer gets access to the files, emails, and other information on the devices connected. Free Wi-Fi does not mean that it is a secure Wi-Fi. With municipalities offering free Wi-Fi, it is becoming tougher to spot networks that are not secure. Check with the network provider or an authority before you log onto any free wireless connections. It is advisable to use a VPN (virtual private network) for transactions that concern sensitive information.

FRONT DESK & FAKE MENU SCAMS When you’re traveling always beware of becoming a victim of a scam. These are the two most common scams that travelers experience. The front desk scam is pretty simple after you check into the hotel, you get a call from the ‘reception’ saying that they are experiencing problems with your credit card. They ask you to confirm your credit card number and that’s how the scammer gets your card’s details. If you ever get such calls from the “front desk”, hang up and call back. Or walk over to the front desk and check if the problem is genuine.

The second scam is fake menus, con artists make fake menus and steal your credit card information when you call to order food from them.

HOME IMPROVEMENT SCAMS There are many variations of this one, they knock on your door, tell you that they’ve done work for your neighbors and have left over material from it. They offer you a deal for a highly discounted price. Why not get work done if you’re getting a good deal anyway, right? First, talk to your neighbor and ask them if they really used this person and find out if he/she did a good job. In a slight variation to this scam, you get a knock on your front door from a man posing to be a contractor. He tells you that he worked for a house further down the block and just wanted to know if anyone else on the block needed to repave their drive or repair their roof. They offer you a fair quote and usually ask for advance payments. Keep an eye out for phony landscapers as well. These people either do a shabby job or just never turn up.

Did you know it is illegal to let you dog or cat roam freely at Lake Carroll. Please be courteous with you neighbors. Even if they are not at their Lake Carroll residence your pets should not be making a mess on their property. Please review the rules regarding pets in the Lake Carroll Governing Documents Title V. Rules and Regulations, Chapter 50.06 (H).

DID YOU KNOW...

Did you know all garbage receptacles must be returned to residence within 24 hours of garbage pickup. All garbage must be placed in a proper receptacle to avoid the garbage being distributed throughout the area by local wildlife.

Moring disposal offers receptacles and residential garbage service that will return your receptacles to your property. This information is located in the Lake Carroll Governing Documents Title V. Rules and Regulations, Chapter 50.06 (F)(2).

Safety First

July’s article is a must read if you are going to own and operate a boat on our lake, or be a passenger in a boat on Lake Carroll.

Don’t overload your boat, know the capacity. Make sure you have lifejackets for every person in the boat, and make sure they are the appropriate size for each person. Children MUST be wearing their lifejackets; it’s a State law.

If you are pulling a skier or tuber, it’s a good idea to have either your spotter, or someone else on the boat, preferably a good swimmer wearing a life jacket and ready to jump in the water at a moment’s notice. What if injury would occur to the person you are pulling? Are you ready to immediately have a person or two jump in the water and save their life? Many people don’t think of that.

Everyone is using the required orange safety flags, and that’s great. One flag up if you’re pulling someone behind your boat and two flags up when that person has fallen into the water.

Now when you’re following someone pulling a skier or tuber, do not follow very closely, nor follow directly behind them. If they should fall in the water, you may not notice them quickly enough and could cause some serious injury.

If you have a jet ski and you are allowing a visitor to ride it, please give them the proper instructions on our lake safety rules such as our no wake zone’s, speed limit, and our counter clockwise direction of travel rule.

If you are out for a leisurely ride, as most people are, please be very aware of people pulling tubers or skiers and jet skis. All these crafts may be making sudden and unexpected turns in front of you; NEVER follow too closely.

After you’ve had your fun let’s talk about taking the boat out of the water. Many people have a real problem with this. First of all have all your passengers get out of your boat before you try and put it on the trailer. This will make the boat lighter and easier to slide onto the trailer.

For the person standing in the water hooking the winch strap onto the front of the boat, please be aware that the take out areas can become very slippery. You don’t want to slip and slide down underneath the trailer.

What if you’re just pulling back into your boat slip and it is very windy ...what do you do?

Try to go into the wind when you’re pulling into your slip. That might mean pulling in to the marina area and going past your parking area, only to turn around facing the wind and then pull into your slip. Keep the wind blowing in your face and you will have better control.

When the wind blows against your back, the wind has more control over your boat. Once you’re pulling in, it seems that half the people want to help you get the boat docked, and the other half stand up and scurry around to find shoes and whatever else they brought with them, preparing to exit the boat. This causes confusion and the captain of the boat cannot see where they are going. Best to ask everyone to remain seated, and have one person stand up and either throw a rope to the people on the dock to help you, or grab one of the poles to pull the boat close enough to the dock to tie up. Whatever you do, please do not sit on the very front bow of the boat or stand on the front swinging a docking pole around trying to hook onto something.

You are destined to fall in the water right in front of the boat, or worse yet between the boat and the pier = Instant Disaster.

In closing, have respect for the boat owner. Don’t just exit the boat and run for your car.

Stop and ask if you can help cover the boat or carry anything to the car or house? You might ask the captain if he or she would like some help snapping the cover back onto the boat. It’s much easier with another pair of hands to help you.

Boat registration stickers from the State expire on June 30th. Your sticker is good for three (3) years. Have you looked at yours? Be sure to renew it in time that you don’t have a lapse in your registration. Also, be sure to provide a copy, or stop by the office, so they can update their files.

Please be careful if you’re drinking alcoholic beverages and boating. Hot sun and alcohol can be a deadly combination. Just so you know, occasionally the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) patrols Lake Carroll. They have the authority to arrest for DUI. Let’s all have a fun boating season, and let’s all stay safe!

BUOY DAMAGE on Lake Carroll

Security has been informed by the members of the Yacht Club that the buoys on Lake Carroll are being intentionally stuck by boats and jet skis causing damage to the buoys. The Yacht Club has donated thousands of dollars over the past several years, and continues to do so this year, to Lake Carroll Association for upgrading to lighted buoys on our lake. Intentionally running into buoys with a boat or jet skis will not be tolerated. A citation may be issued and restitution will be sought for any damage to Lake Carroll property, as stated in the Lake Carroll governing documents, Chapter § 53.04 (C) (19).

Lake Carroll membership is strongly urge to contact Security (815-275-6122) immediately if you witness this type of activity occurring.

REMINDER: Buoys indicate the “No Wake” boundaries on Lake Carroll.

Well we just got thru the Memorial Day weekend and it was great to see the masses back in town. It’s been quite some time since Mother Nature cooperated and gave us some awesome weather. Overall, the weekend was a success with no major issues that came up. I will say as a reminder that operating an ATV/UTV or golf cart on Zier Road is not allowed. Zier is a County road and you will be ticketed if caught by a Sheriff. I would also like to say that dumpsters at the Marinas are not meant to dispose of your household items or garbage. If you do not pay for disposal service at your LC residence, you must take your garbage with you.

Dave Pacione The Dredger is diligently working in South Bay and when finished Board President will move on to the Three Tubes area. Our new harvester has also been out cutting the weeds and I know I’ve seen a big difference from a few weeks ago.

This is an ongoing project because with the warmer weather and clear water, the weeds will continue to grow and we will have to keep working hard to offer everyone an enjoyable boating and swimming experience.

Our Lake Safety and Environmental Issues AdHoc Committee is still working on a recommendation in regards to large wakes. In the meantime, I want to reiterate the need for Safe Boating Etiquette. Be courteous to those around you, pay attention to No-Wake Zones and Be Safe.

For those of you that have not gone, stop by the Concession Stand at the West Marina and grab some food. The kids working over there would love to see you!

Check the calendar for upcoming events. There is a lot happening and I would love to see many come out and support these awesome events that our various amenities and departments have planned. Our new Recreation Director has been working hard to have a great summer planned for our LC kids and families. And as always, the Pro Shop has some great outings scheduled throughout the summer and fall.

Independence Day is my favorite time of the year. I know this paper will not reach many of you before our celebrations, the Fourth of July Fireworks were enjoyed on two separate weekends this year. July 1st (private member Ron Cox, Sec 27) and July 7th (the Association from the dam). Thank Ron for always being willing to share with the LC Community.

GM Report

Summer is here, the weather has been excellent, and it’s great to see so many of you have been taking the time to come out and enjoy the amenities. The lake, campground, golf course, pool and clubhouse have all been very busy so far this year and in most cases, considerably busier than last year. By the time you read this, the fourth of July will have come and gone and as we move into the middle of the summer, I have much to report on.

The Lake Improvement Project continues to move forward with very good results. The stream bank stabilization project was completed on time and under budget. The new weed harvester, Mike Schmieder General Manager shore conveyor, and weed transport barge were delivered in late May and the purchase of these pieces of equipment also came in under budget. The largest part of the Lake Improvement Project is the dredging of the East Marina, South Bay, and the Three Tubes Bay. Dredging of the East Marina was completed in May and we are nearly finished dredging South Bay. As soon as they are done in South Bay, the dredge equipment will be moved to Three Tubes. I would like to take a moment to thank the Members of the Lake Improvement Project Advisory Committee who are overseeing this massive undertaking. Joe Rush, Tom Wienecke, Clarence Grant, Don Marrone, and Don Aleksy have all worked very hard to make sure these projects are completed successfully, on time and within the budget and so far, they have all done an excellent job.

Over the past month we have been able to harvest more aquatic weeds than we ever have before. All of the new equipment is being utilized which allows us to harvest as efficiently as possible. Don Aleksy and his team have worked very hard to learn and train on the new equipment and they have done a fantastic job removing weeds to a depth of 3 – 4 feet below the water surface.

I’m glad to report that the 2019 budget process has started and the first of several budget related workshops and meetings will be held shortly. As the process begins, I would like to take a moment to thank the many volunteers who will invest hundreds of hours into this process. The Fixed Asset Budget, the Operating Budget, and the Fee Schedule will be discussed and presented during these open meetings. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, offer input and be part of the process and I encourage you do so.

General Manager - Monthly Board Report (BOD) - June 22, 2018 Michael Schmieder

Following is a synopsis of this month’s activities. I have identified those items that are of importance or that are not necessarily obvious. I have not included the normal day-to-day activities or those items that are covered by the Treasurer and others. Please also refer to the staff reports that have been provided.

The order is by department/category.

1. Report on directives from the April, 2018 BOD Meeting. a. The contract with Sperlonga Data & Analytics appears on this month’s agenda for approval for credit reporting services. b. A scanned copy of the entire Board packet will be posted to the Website in advance of June meeting.

2. Administration: a. An updated copy of the 2018 Fixed Asset Expenditures – Cash Status has been included in the Board packet under “Treasurers Report”. b. An updated copy of the LIP Expenditures – Cash Status has been included in the Board packet under “Treasurers Report”.

3. Safe Workplace Committee & CinciSafe Program: a. The Safe Workplace Committee met on Monday, June 4, 2018. Minutes from this meeting are included in within this report.

4. Sales of Lake Carroll Owned Lots: a. I have received numerous inquiries over the past 30 days from potential property owners as well as a few Associate Members. Two Association lots were sold in May and two additional lots were sold in June. See attached Lot sales summary spreadsheet.

5. Accounts Receivable & Front Desk: (see attachments) a. Seventeen (17) resale transactions were entered in the database between 5-12-2018 and 6-13-2018. Seven (7) lots with homes were sold and ten (10) vacant lots were sold. b. Natural Gas Permit Fees: -As of 5/10/18 620 Natural Gas permit fees have been paid totaling $155,000.00 -As of 6/12/18 623 Natural Gas permit

fees have been paid totaling $155,750.00 6. Finance & Human Resources: a. Finance: i. Preliminary Financial Statements for February, March, April and May 2018 have been sent electronically prior to the meeting and the Board will be asked to approve the statements at the 6/22/2018 Board Meeting. ii. The Gaming Machines generated $3,689.44 in income for Lake Carroll during the month of April, 2018. The budgeted income for April was $3,800.00. iii. The Auditors from O’Connor & Brooks completed the Audit and it appears on this month’s agenda for approval. b. Human Resource: i. Most of the seasonal hiring has been completed for the seasonal summer staff.

7. Safety & Security: a. As requested by the Board, I am including Luke’s full report.

8. Information Technology: a. Deb is currently working on getting quotes for the new camera to be installed at our main entrance as part of the 2018 Fixed Asset Budget.

9. Communications: As usual, Donna Beyer remains busy on a daily basis working to maintain communications between the LCA, the Membership, Committee’s and the Staff. Below is a listing of some, but not all of the items she has worked on recently: a. Keeping web documents up-to-date. b. Reformatting html links on website c. Maintaining LCA FB page – check multiple times a day. d. Check other FB pages to ensure no conflicts. e. Updated summertime flyers for golf, recreation, and clubs. f. Process, archive, and post committee minutes. g. Process, archive, and submit committee applications to various committees.

Submit committee recommendations to the BOD. h. Update committee rosters as needed. i. Maintain Committee Member List.

j. Assist various Clubs: k. Format and print Ladies League Booklet. l. Convert FC PowerPoint to DVD. m. Assist other staff as requested in MS program formatting. n. Organize 2019 Rules meetings and collect/organize potential changes. o. Create new web accounts for new Members. p. FYI: When sending an E-Blast, we now reach over 2300 separate email accounts. q. Take care of planters at guard house and Admin Office.

10. Facilities Management: a. I have attached Don’s full report for your review.

11. Lake Management/Wildlife: a. The lake level as of May 14, 2018 was 740’. Pool Level. b. I have attached Joe’s full report for your review.

12. Lake Improvement Projects: a. See Joe’s full report which is attached.

13. Building Inspection/Architectural & Environmental: a. At the Board’s request, I have attached Doug’s monthly report for your review.

14. Golf Operations (Pro Shop): a. Summer is now in full swing and we have been very busy with golfers. Our large and small group outings have been very good with larger numbers for both the PC Boosters Outing and Rolling Hills Outing. Both with max capacity turnouts. b. Jason continues to book more outings; currently we have just picked up 2 more events, 1 very large event in August on a Thursday of more than 160 and 1 in September on a Saturday of over 60. This will give us 5 new large outings for the year. We also have several smaller events scheduled for the season as well. c. Our Member Tournament schedule is also very full, so checking for course availability is a must. The schedule of events is available in the pro shop, newspaper, www.golflakecarroll.com and on the Lake Carroll golf course Facebook page. We also have a very large recipro-

cal list, which will allow our members to play at various courses in the area for a reduced fee. This should offer options for our members when the course is closed due to weather or events. d. Season Golf Pass sales are as followed 10 singles and 2 couples. Slightly up from last year.

15. Golf Maintenance: a. Tim has most of the seasonal summer positions filled at this time and has been very busy trying to keep up with the rapidly growing grass. Mowing of the course is being completed seven days per week.

16. Clubhouse Operations: a. The Clubhouse was inspected by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission on April 30, 2018. No violations were observed. See attached.

17. Recreation Complex Operations: a. Aquatic Complex: i. The pool was open for the Memorial day weekend and saw very large crowds on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Pool income is up considerably as compared to last May. ii. The indoor pool remains operating with no problems to report. b. Recreation: i. The first session of swimming lessons was held June 4th thru June 8th. ii. The first session of activity camp was held on June 18th thru June 22. This session had over 40 participants. iii. The Kick-off to Summer weekend was held on June 15 and 16, 2018.

The activities and night swimming were very well attended and I have received numerous compliments from many who attended. Great Job Donna. c. Ski Hill: i. Closed for the season 18. Campground: a. The new playground equipment was installed in early June and is already very popular with the kids. See attached picture.

Photo by Nancy McCormick (25-4) So far this early nesting season for bluebirds has been very disappointing. It seems that more often than not we are finding missing eggs, nests and baby birds. We’re also finding some nests of dead baby birds that have been smothered by gnats. As usual, most of the destruction can be blamed on wrens and sparrows although some snakes, squirrels and chipmunks have been known to eat eggs and baby birds. This is one of the reasons that groups like Bluebirds Across Nebraska (BAN) exists, to try to help increase the population of bluebirds. As dismal as all this sounds, we are still hoping for better results for the second nesting period.

For everybody who is trying to raise bluebirds, please remember that the most important thing to do is to check your bluebird houses on at least a weekly basis and remove any unwanted nests of other birds. There’s a good chance that the birds that move into your birdhouse are the kind that actually kill bluebirds. Therefore it’s better not to have a bluebird house at all than to have one that’s not monitored. For more information on bluebirds, go to www.bbne. org. BAN is a non profit group and always willing to help with providing information on the correct ways to help bluebirds. The Lake Carroll Women’s Club ended the 2017-2018 season by holding their end of the year meeting at the Clubhouse where they enjoyed a delicious pasta luncheon and wine bar out on the back patio. Danielle and her team did an awesome job!

President Char Messmore started the meeting portion of the day by introducing the 2018 Eastland High School WC scholarship winner Kenady Drake. Kenady gave a short speech about herself and then expressed her sincere thanks to the ladies for their generosity. She informed the group that she will be attending Western Illinois University in the fall.

According to JoAnn Gariff, the WC treasurer, the club account had a balance of approximately $6,000.00 at the end of May. We have dispersed $6,100 to area organizations in the area leaving roughly $1,600 in the account.

Vice-President Gael Will talked about the success of the Rolling Hills outing in May. She reminded the group that our purpose as a club is to inspire teamwork, promote positive thinking and support community. Everyone agreed that the club is definitely doing those things!

Pat Bykowski reported that we currently have 73 members. 36 were present at the luncheon. Donna Aleksy, Ways and Means chair, thanked her committee and everyone who helped support our fund raising efforts in one capacity or another.

The community service chairperson reminded everyone that we no longer collect plastic bottle caps. 52 blankets were distributed thus far this year from our WC Blanket Project and Loretta Dick asked for more people to sew. If you’re interested in helping out, please contact her.

Many members of the club will be going to Good Samaritan in Mt. Carroll on Wednesday, August 8 at 2:00 for their annual birthday celebration. If you’re interested in joining these ladies please contact JoAnn Borysiewicz or Loretta Dick asap.

The LCWC will be selling Christmas ornaments for $10 at the annual Labor Day bonfire. These will make a great addition to your tree as well as beautiful gifts for friends and family.

Finally, Char thanked JoAnn for serving as our treasurer and Gael Will for her work as Vice-president over the last two years. She then installed Lana Soldat as our new vice-president and Gael Will as our new treasurer.

The first meeting of the 2018-2019 season will be held on Thursday, September 13 at the Lodge. If you aren’t a member and would like to join a group of women that are dedicated to improving Lake Carroll and the surrounding communities please come that day and join us!

- Merce Meyers (1-90) commented on the ByLaws amendment and furnished a copy of her remarks. Copy attached.

- Joanne Harper (19-25) commented that it would be irresponsible to not have building inspections.

- Dave Allgood (15-2R) supports rescinding the motion to publish the names of delinquents and supports some of the provisions in the by-laws amendments.

- Joannie Perez (31-91) reported that the minutes of 4/27/2018 are incorrect in that the monies associated in motions #9, #10, #11, are

to be from the LIP budget rather than the fixed asset budget.

- Cliff Mortensen (16-167) wanted assurance that the proper procedures are followed and no shortcuts.

- Sam Halderman (5-164) opposes sending the proposals to the membership and request that public hearings be held and commented on costs of inspections and reiterated the by-laws sections 31-09, 31-10, 31-11.

- Mike Sweeny (4-115) sees no reason to have this motion. He is concerned as to what would happen with no inspections.

- Don Miller (5-31) as a builder at Lake Carroll, he has no problem working with the building inspector at Lake Carroll and is concerned no inspections would result in degraded work.

- Lisa Filberg (19-47) is concerned that inspectors from other counties would not be familiar with our codes. She asked why there wouldn’t be information meetings before going to the by-laws.

- Cindy Griffin (27-12) There are many issues selling property at Lake Carroll and delays for outside inspectors would be putting up more road blocks.

- Sam Haldeman (5-164) asked why the minutes are not expanded to include the discussions.

Treasurer Report: Financials were tabled until June John Grotto moved, and Alan Cazzato seconded the motion to correct the April minutes to reflect that the funds expended in motions #9, #10, #11 are from the LIP budget and not the fixed asset budget. Motions passed unanimously by voice vote. Motion 18.05.03 General Managers Report: Mike reported LC has received the Harvester, Transport Barge and two trailers with employees being trained. John questioned the status of DPE’s and the pool liner. Other questions were regarding the mowing program, shoreline treatment, dock repair and insurance claim.

Committee Minutes with Actions Requested: - Clarence Grant moved, and Kevin Oscarson seconded to direct Management to order a survey and prepare a quit claim deed for the land created by sediment deposited on the shoreline of #25-66. Motion carried. 5/1/0 (Grotto no) Motion 18.05.04 - Clarence Grant moved, and Kevin Oscarson seconded to approve the renaming of the Aquatic Complex to the Claryce Holmberg Aquatic Complex in her honor as are recommended by the Safety and Recreation Committees. - John Grotto moved, and Clarence Grant seconded to approve re-plat of #3-597 and #3-596 to #3-597R as recommended by the A&E Committee motion carried 6/0/0 Motion 18.05.06 - Clarence Grant moved, and Kevin seconded to adopt Reserve Study as a key component of the Lake Carroll budget process. Wow, what a great Father’s Day Weekend. Yes, the weather was HOT, but that didn’t stop the parents, grandparents, friends and families from enjoying a morning with the kids at the Fishing Club’s Annual Kids Fishing Derby. Registration began @ 9:00am, each young angler received a Tee Shirt and bait to catch that dream fish. This year, the club changed the derby from the West Marina to the East Marina. And the East Marina didn’t disappoint. Not only were lots of fish caught, a total of 179 fish were recorded, the days catch included Northern, Walleye, Large Mouth Bass, Small Mouth Bass, Crappie, Perch, Bluegill, Sunfish and Rock Bass. Finding that hot spot to catch these fish is always a challenge, some young anglers were lucky, others had to search the marina for areas that might hold a trophy fish. All in all, everyone enjoyed the thrill of watching their bobber go down and reeling-in what everyone hoped was the “Big One”.

When the fishing contest ended, our young anglers traded in their fishing hats for game contest hats. Age groups 7-10 and 11-14 tested their casting skills by casting a practice plug into a grid which had different scoring zones. Most point would win this contest. For ages 3-6, a Bags competition was organized to test our young athlete’s throwing abilities. Here again, most points would determine the winner. As each competitor finished their event, all were invited to spend time playing non-competitive games of Ladder Ball or Lawn Darts. During these events, the Derby volunteers were busy tabulating the fishing results for biggest fish and most fish caught. With the results finalized, the winners were announced;

Winners for the fishing contest were awarded trophies; game contest winners received a trophy or ribbon.

Once the fishing award ceremonies were complete, it was time for the Raffle. Each child received a ticket which could win a Tackle Box, Fishing Pole, Assorted Crappie Jigs, Fishing Club Tackle Box or a Gift Certificate for Mini Golf. Plus, in addition to the Raffle, any child not winning a prize was given the choice of a Frisbee, Jump Rope or Nerf Lawn Tennis Set. Congratulations to all, everyone was a winner.

The morning activities were coming to an end, the fishing and games were complete, the awards and raffle finished, all that remained was lunch. Everyone was hungry, so serve up the hot dogs, chips, cookies, water, juice boxes and Freeze Pops. The Derby was over, everyone was grateful for the nice weather and hungry fish which provided fun for many anglers. The Fishing Club wants to extend a grateful “Thank You” to everyone who attended the Derby and especially the parents for allowing their kids to enjoy fishing.

As a final note, the Fishing Club needs to recognize our sponsors and say “Thanks”. Their support makes this event a truly rewarding experience for all who attend and for all who volunteer. Rain Rain go away…. I’m starting to think this is our theme for 2018! We’ve had so many substantial rains this spring, including the flooding in February this year!

Not small rains, but several inches over short periods of time. These heavy rain events can bring nutrients in on the landscape and from lawns which feed the plant and algae growth in the lake. Unfortunately, I’m anticipating our water quality monitoring program to show results of higher Joe Rush nutrients this year. We’ll know more after our monitoring Lake Manager program this summer.

Right now I’d like to take a moment and introduce the membership to a nasty little invader in the fields of Lake Carroll. It’s called “Wild Parsnip”. It is a nonnative invasive from Europe that was brought here for cultivation but escaped to invade native landscapes throughout North America.

Most important to our membership is that this plant is actually quite dangerous to you. The fluids produced by the plant are considered toxic to your skin, producing a dermal rash and severe blisters. This condition is known as ‘phyto photo dermatitis’. The sap from the plant, once on your skin, becomes ‘activated’ by sunlight, causing severe blistering and rash symptoms. Before I was aware of this plant, and what it could do to me, I personally was burned quite severely, and the scars were still on my body all through the winter!

It is very likely you have come across, or will come across, this plant in your adventures at the lake. It is very prevalent around the lake. It looks like the white Queen Anne’s Lace that we used to pick for our mothers when we were children, but it has a yellow flowering head.

If you come across this plant you should take caution not to get the sap on your skin. When mowing or weed whipping be sure to wear pants, long shirts, and gloves and be sure any exposed skin is protected.

If you do get sap on you, be sure to wash immediately with soap and water and try to stay out of the sun. This will not ensure you won’t get a rash, or blisters, but will aid in having less issue with the sap. By Mike Bykowski, Secretary Eighty-four club members and guests attended the General Meeting and Potluck on a beautiful Wednesday evening. Socializing, relaxing with good friends and sitting down for an enjoyable meal were the prerequisites for the evening. Following the meal, Connor (Tom & Pat Wienecke’s grandson) lead the membership and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance. Joining the club this evening were guests Connor, Sandy Sorenson, Jeff Reed who moved here in November, Kelly from North Aurora and Steve and Carol Mack who have been property owners since 2010. Following the personal introductions from each guest, Tom Stangl presented the Treasurer’s Report which officially opened the meeting @ 6:57pm.

Filling in for Mitch, Tom delivered the Treasurer’s Report. May financials did not show any unusual activity, income was recorded from dues and the Raffle while expenses centered around Hatchery supplies, postage and Pot Luck food. Total income for the month was $255 versus expenses of $286. The Treasurer’s Report was approved by a motion from Sue Ugorek, a second by Lisa McQuilkin and voice approval from the membership.

Following the Treasurer’s Report, Tom Stangl provided a brief update on the clubs upcoming events so that Joe Rush could begin his presentation on the History of Lake Carroll.

• Kids Fishing Derby – Saturday June 16th at the East Marina. Registration is at 9 and fishing begins at 10. Because this year’s event is at a new location, signs will be posted at the West Marina directing all anglers to the East Marina.

• Couples Fishing Tournament – Monday August 6th @ 9am at the West Marina. Bloody Mary Bar opens early.

• Golf Outing – August 25th @ 1pm, more details will be available next month • Spillway Rescue – October 20th is the planned date to rescue all game fish.

• Draining Fawn Pond – Planned for the end of October, this activity will hopefully rescue many walleyes. These walleyes were placed in the pond as Fry and have been growing throughout the summer and Fall. This walleye netting operation will coincide with the Pig Roast and Bonfire.

• Christmas Party - Judy Czurylo and JoAnn Gariff will co-chair the decorating committee for this year’s Party. Barnwood will be used to assemble the many decorations which can be purchased via a silent auction at the party. Dean Lower graciously donated all the Barnwood.

• Ice Skating Pond – The club will again prepare the pond behind the Hatchery for ice skating this year.

• Baseball Game – Mike Siciliano mentioned that the club may organize a baseball game outing to Clinton on a Tuesday night in July. Transportation will be carpooling; more specifics will follow.

The membership meeting ended @ 7:14pm with a motion from Barb Anderson and a second from Lisa McQuilkin. Mike Siciliano then conducted the Gift Card Raffle. This month’s lucky winners were Sue Ugorek, Bob Miller and JoAnn Gariff. Congratulations to all.

With the membership meeting complete, Tom Stangl asked Joe Rush to provide an update on the LIP program. Joe mentioned that South Bay is nearing completion and that work will soon start at Three Tubes. Also mentioned is that the project costs are coming in under budget which could open-up dredging to some of the smaller bays.

Following this update, Joe began his presentation on the history of Lake Carroll. The presentation consisted of many old photos showing the pre-Lake Carroll days. They included the “Boat on a Pole”, farm buildings, dam construction, lodge construction, winter activities at the ski hill, and of course Leroy Hinkle who was so instrumental in overseeing and providing valuable input to the project. Everyone enjoyed the presentation and had great fun trying to guess what section was being shown in the different pictures. Guessing each section was difficult because the usual landmarks of the lake, roads, homes and trees did not exist. The audience was able to identify some sections, other are still being debated. Thanks go out to Joe for his informative presentation and the pictures showing the history of Lake Carroll.

Public Notice: SWIMMER’S ITCH

In an effort to educate our members and help them have the best experience possible at Lake Carroll, we are providing you with information on conditions that can occur in lakes.

Also, there are inherent risks associated with being on, in, or around lakes and any use or association with the lake is always at your own risk.

We recently received reports of possible “swimmer’s itch” symptoms at Lake Carroll. The following excerpts are from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Educational Website on a condition known as “Swimmer’s Itch” and the website link to the entire publication can be found at: http://dnr.wi.gov/lakes/swimmersitch/ Swimmer’s itch is widespread and has been reported in many other states and also elsewhere in the world. There seem to be no special characteristics of lakes having the problem. Some of the finest recreational waters in the state experience swimmer’s itch annually, whereas other lakes may have an occasional outbreak or none at all. An outbreak may be severe, but last for only a few days, or minor and last much of the season.

Swimmer’s itch is caused by the larvae (immature stage) of certain flatworms that can be picked up while swimming. Technically known as schistosome dermatitis, swimmer’s itch appears as red itching, bite-like welts within several hours of leaving the water. It is neither dangerous nor contagious, but is very uncomfortable.

When the larva penetrates the skin, it causes a small red welt. The degree of discomfort and bodily reaction varies with the person’s sensitivity and the degree of infestation. In some people, the reaction may be hardly noticeable. Others have considerable pain, fever, severe itching, and swelling. The swelling usually subsides within a week, but the redness can last longer.

– Swimmer’s itch organisms are most commonly noticed in early summer, when the water is its warmest.

– Relatively short season - usually four to six weeks, depending on the weather.

– Nothing can be done to eliminate them, and our best action is to learn how to reduce exposure.

PREVENTING SWIMMER’S ITCH – Use of waterproof sunscreens and lotions can reduce the infections.

– Stay clear of plants growing in the lake.

– Swimming rather than playing or wading in shallow water will reduce exposure.

– Swim offshore if possible.

– If swimmer’s itch is known to be present, avoid swimming when winds are likely to be carrying the organisms into the shoreline.

– The most important thing to do to prevent the itch is to rub down very briskly right after leaving the water to crush the organisms before they can penetrate the skin.

– Showering shortly after leaving the water also should help.

EASING SWIMMER’S ITCH After the swimmer’s itch organisms have penetrated the skin, there is little that can be done to treat it. You may get some relief by using soothing lotions such as calamine or lotions containing antihistamines and/or local anesthetics. In severe cases, see a physician.

Upcoming Deer Management Program 2018

Lake Carroll is preparing for the 2018 Deer Management Program archery hunting season. As in previous years, there will be 2 MANDATORY Deer Hunters Meetings: Saturday, August 4th and Sunday, August 19th. Both meetings will be held at the Lodge and will begin promptly at 9am.

ALL HUNTERS, NEW AND OLD, MUST QUALIFY. Please bring your equipment and be prepared to qualify at the meeting you attend. Qualifications dates are: Saturday, August 4th; Sunday, August 19th; and if needed, Sunday, August 26th.

The goal of this program is to help control our deer population; to aid in preventing the risk of our deer herd growing too large, which poses a health risk for property owners such as Lyme disease and animal/vehicle collisions.

From the Golf Pro

June has come and gone in a flash, and it was a very busy month. We had great turnouts for all of our outings and tournaments held throughout the month, which included the PC Booster, Rolling Hills Outing, Campground outing, Father’s Day Scramble, Cleveland Scoring Clinic, WCCI Golf Outing and LCA Big Cup. Thanks to all who participated in these events. June also was the start of Junior Golf League and the Junior camps Jason Hill PGA Golf Professional and clinics, don’t worry if you missed the June sessions, we have July Junior Golf Camps still open for signup.

July will be an even busier month around the golf course starting off with the 4th of July weekend events. July 6th will be Moonlite Nite Golf and July 8th will be the Firecracker Scramble. With the course being so busy, making tee times will be very important to everyone wanting to enjoy the course. I also have included a schedule of events in the paper, along with flyers for the upcoming events. This month we will have many: PRO AM on July 13th, Mt Carroll Fire Department Outing on July 14th, Ladies Invitational July 18th, Junior Open July 20th, Club Championship July 21st and 22nd, LC Ryder Cup July 27 pairing party and July 28th matches.

We also have several Junior camps and clinics along with several weekend clinics and a Junior Tournament on July 20th. I look forward to seeing everyone on the course this summer; let’s hope for great summer weather.

On Wednesday, June 6, the ladies league enjoyed a warm afternoon celebrating the Fun/Charity Night. This event is held each season and is dedicated to raising funds for a charity. With the theme being “Cheeseburger in Paradise”, 28 ladies from all divisions played a scramble, and then experienced a cheeseburger from the Burger Bar, and dessert at the Clubhouse.

The charity chosen this year was the Home Improvement Task Force, Eastland Council of Churches. Pastor Mike Jones of Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon, spoke about their mission and the aid they have given to people in need living in Shannon and Lanark. HIT began in 2015, and has helped more than 20 local homeowners. Projects can be simple (like yard work) or more involved (like roof replacement and remodels). Projects are funded through cash donations, area business discounts, volunteer labor, USDA grants and other sources. Our league donations, along with raffle money, totaled $1,000 for this very worthy cause. Many thanks to Donna Carroll, Pia Molloy, Sue Lamoreux and Sheri Moutrey for all their work in hosting this event.

Deb Scheidegger reminded everyone of the Ladies Invitational coming up on July 18. “It’s Showtime” promises to be a great day of fun and golf. Other events to put on your calendar are August 15, Big Break, and September 12, Final Fun Night/Awards.

It was a hot and busy day at the lake and I think we all would have preferred to be in the lake and am sure many headed there after being out on the trails. The Poker Run started with check-in at the Dan Herman pavilion, hot dogs & chips and some fun conversation and a chance to meet new LCA members. Once our bellies were full, the riders headed off in search of 4 other Trail Club card dealers stationed at different points along the trail. All riders ended up back at the Dan Herman pavilion, where the poker hands were turned in. We enjoyed some watermelon and the prizes were awarded. Our winners this year were: 1st prize with 4 Aces went to Rita Rolf, 2nd prize went to Bob Massey, 3rd prize went to Al Headley and we had a tie for 4th with Alec Drake & Gloria Vitelli. We also kept track of all hands and it was decided that the person with the worst hand would receive their entry fee back as they should not have to pay for losing ---- that honor this year went to Don Aleksy.

I would also like to thank 4 dedicated card dealers who sat in 90 plus degree heat with little or no breeze or shade to ensure our riders had stops to pick up their cards. Thanks Lynn Vernsten, Sandy Sorensen, Patti Dunn and Judy Maluchnik! You ladies made our riders day!

Around the Campfire Ellis Fitzgerald, Campground Host

The camping season is in full swing for 2018 and exciting things are happening at the Campground. The Farmers Market is at the Pavilion every Saturday (9-11) and the summer kickoff party on Memorial Day weekend was a fun event despite the heat, and DJ Ron Hennings was great, as usual.

Due to the efforts of the Campground Committee hard work of the LC Maintenance Staff, we have added a climbing wall to the playground and this is not the end. Thanks to monies contributed in the donations jar last summer an additional item will be added in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.

This summer we are conducting a campsite of the month contest and the winner for the month of May was Jeff and Heather Grimm (30-14) in site 503.

The annual Campground Golf Outing held on June 9th was the most successful ever with a good mixture of campers and homeowners participating. 66 players participated in the 18hole tournament and 80 people attending the dinner after. Lots of prizes and laughter. Thank you, Mike and Jill Tepps, for your continued excellent management of this great event.

ABCS OF SCHOOL NUTRITION PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS TRAINING

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR GARDENING EXTRAVAGANZA JULY 28 IN STERLING

Whiteside Master Gardeners will be hosting a gardening workshop on Saturday, July 28 from 1:00- 4:00pm at the Whiteside Extension Office, 12923 Lawrence Rd., Sterling, IL 61081. There will be topics of interest for everyone from the novice to the expert gardener.

Individuals of all ages will learn something new and take home useful materials. The afternoon will include three separate sessions entitled: 1) Shade Gardening, 2) Grace of Gardening, and 3) Homemade Natural Hand Scrub and Bug Spray.

The Grace of Gardening session will specifically detail the multiple benefits of gardening as it applies to all ages from toddlers to senior citizens. Gardening is an adventure that holds both challenges and blessings for multi-generational families or individuals. Attendees will analyze their needs and interest by designing their own garden plan. Master Gardeners will assist with decisions and offer suggestions to meet your specific personalized plan.

University of Illinois Extension and the Illinois State Board of Education entered into a grant partnership to provide required USDA professional standards trainings to Illinois school foodservice staff, called the ABCs of School Nutrition.

University of Illinois Extension is offering a school food service professional standards training Thursday, August 2 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at Eastland High School. Eastland High School is located at 500 S School Dr Lanark, IL. This training will provide 6 hours of USDA Professional Standards continuing education credit for the 2018-2019 school year. Training topics include Saved by the Breakfast Bell, Positive communication, Quality Standards, Portioning Food, and Customer Service, Merchandizing, and Food Presentation.

BUOY DAMAGE on Lake Carroll

Security has been informed by the members of the Yacht Club that the buoys on Lake Carroll are being intentionally stuck by boats and jet skis causing damage to the buoys. The Yacht Club has donated thousands of dollars over the past several years, and continues to do so this year, to Lake Carroll Association for upgrading to lighted buoys on our lake. Intentionally running into buoys with a boat or jet skis will not be tolerated. A citation may be issued and restitution will be sought for any damage to Lake Carroll property, as stated in the Lake Carroll governing documents, Chapter § 53.04 (C) (19). Lake Carroll membership is strongly urge to contact Security (815-2756122) immediately if you witness this type of activity occurring.
