Communications Announcement An end of an era...a new beginning
Vol. 48 No. 2
Many of you know me as the Editor of our newspaper and Communications Director. One of my main duties is to communicate with the membership; to relay important announcements, information, and to do my best to help you know what has and will be happening at Lake Carroll. Much of the information has been presented to you through our monthly newspaper publication. Of my twenty years working at the Administration Office, of which 18 years in my current position, I have seen many property owners, committee and board members, and staff come and go. With our ever-changing membership demographic and the digital lifestyle, we live in, the decision has been made by the Board of Directors and management to discontinue the Lake Carroll News and welcome a new era of communication. The original publication that began in 1973 was simply entitled Lake Carroll the great escape and was a seasonal publication. The heading of the cover article from the summer 1973 edition was “Lake Carroll Changing from a Donna Beyer Dream to a Reality.” For some of us, we have been living the dream for many years and for others, their new reality Communication Director has just begun. The 1973 publication was an interesting read showing the infancy of the various amenities, the social engagements of the time, and using the lake bottom for races while anticipating the filling of the lake. (Page 1 & 2 of the 4-page edition shown below.) In December 1976 the first newspaper was published under the title of Lake Carroll News. My how the times have changed, and our organization must continue to evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of our membership. With new direction and vision from management, we’ve made some changes to the way we communicate with you this past year. A fresh new website that offers members and non-members information on our community and incorporates member-submitted photos to depict the lifestyle and activities of lake life. The most impactful communication update is our redesigned weekly emails. We’ve received positive feedback on the new format and our desire is to continue improving and updating our methods of communication. It’s with excitement and high anticipation that we announce the end of an era at Lake Carroll. The March 2020 publication will be the last of the Lake Carroll News. With that statement I’m sure many of you are surprised and are asking, “What now?” Our plan is to continue presenting the information and articles you have grown to expect over the years; however, it will be presented digitally. The current link to the newspaper on our website will remain your access to all the great informative articles, photos, and event details. We anticipate providing a direct link to the new format in the weekly emails. Our communication team will continue to investigate different platforms to improve our presentation and delivery of pertinent news to keep you up to date. Our current plan is to continue with weekly eblasts and move to a bi-weekly newsletter. The newsletter will be delivered in a PDF format and will have more timely articles and information. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact me at editor@golakecarroll.com. Here’s to a new beginning… You can view the 1973 publication in its entirety by logging onto www.golakecarroll.com > Members > Documents > Admin

Golfers’ Choice: Best of Illinois Golf Courses Lake Carroll Golf Course Ranks #8 in the best public-access courses from Chicago to downstate based on reviews. The annual Golf Advisor Golfers’ Choice state lists are compiled by analyzing the ratings and reviews submitted by members of our review community throughout the year. We use our Golf Advisor Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course’s weighted subcategory averages. Reviews from trusted and active reviewers are weighted heavier than inactive members. Courses must offer public access and have received at least one review in 2019 to be eligible for this year’s list.
