MYP 5 and DP 1 will be joining together for a fantastic trip to Sri Lanka. The 9 day programme will include many exciting educational experiences and provide the children with opportunities to discover and explore. There will be a blend of tradition and modernity, nature and adventure, that will make this trip unique, varied and rewarding for all.
The students will also engage in a Service Learning activity where they will learn about Turtle Conservation and help to preserve the delicate ecosystem that supports the vulnerable turtle population of Sri Lanka.
The time spent on this activity will also count towards the Service Learning component of their IB studies.

Hatchery Kosgoda Turtle Orphanage
• 08:45 Arrival at Hatchery Kosgoda, the oldest of its kind in Sri Lanka
• 9:00 Tour of the hatchery and conservation work with sea turtles
• 12:00 Lunch
• Afternoon Further conservation activities at the heart of the orphanage
• 17:00 Tea break to discuss the day’s events and ask questions, followed by awarding of certificates of participation to each student.

Premier Garden
• 08:30 Depart for Unawatuna for a gentle cycle ride around the lagoon and village: approximately 12 km
• Discover the countryside, its villages and its residents in a sustainable way.

• Afternoon Head for Balapitiya for a boat trip in the wild mangrove swamps on the river Madu.
• Return to the hotel
• Dinner and overnight at the hotel
• 08:00 Depart for a jeep safari in Minneriya
National Park where elephants roam free.

• 09:00 Depart for a cricket match against village children in the Habarana region.

• Afternoon: ascent of Sigiriya - known as Lion Rock - where you can see ancient cave paintings and two enormous “lion’s paws”. After climbing 650 steps to reach the top, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view and the remains of a 5th century citadel built by King Kassapa.

• 07:30 Depart for the Millennium Elephant Foundation, a camp which cares for elephants who have retired after long years working in local temples.
