“Los payeses me aceptan con mi nombre de chica, con total tolerancia” con muy buen rollo, que llevaba ropa que me gustaba y que me dio la bienvenida. Las Dalias para mí siempre ha sido un jardín mágico: gente estupenda, un trabajo que me encanta y mucha ilusión en el futuro. Las Dalias me dio un trabajo fijo y la posibilidad de vivir en Ibiza. Y además tengo muchos amigos, que ahora son mi familia.
¿Qué ofreces en Las Dalias?
Durante más de 20 años, viví la mitad del año en India. Desde entonces vendo telas con bordados, espejos y trabajo artesanal. Siempre me han gustado mucho los tejidos y me he vestido de forma extravagante. Ahora tengo también cojines, mantas, cubrecamas y una variedad más amplia de productos textiles. Todos los años dedico cuatro meses a comprar en India cosas bonitas, que después vendo en Ibiza en verano. Empiezo en el mercadillo en Semana Santa y acabo a finales de noviembre. Después me dedico a viajar, comprar cositas buenas y también a descansar. En el pasado también hacía el mercado de Navidad y descansaba un mes al año, pero ahora soy un poquito más anciano y necesito descansar. Es así la vida.
¿Te imaginas vivir fuera de Ibiza?
Mis raíces están en el jardín de San Carles y no voy a salir. Si viene una catástrofe que cambie mi vida, me adaptaré, como he hecho muchas veces en el pasado. No es la primera vez que cambio de país y de trabajo y nunca se sabe qué puede pasar. Pero hoy por hoy, lo único que quiero es estar en Las Dalias y en Ibiza el resto de mi vida. Soy muy feliz. Hace 20 años que estoy muy bien aquí y no quiero cambiar de vida. Espero que dure 60 años más.
¿Cómo ha evolucionado Las Dalias desde que llegaste hasta hoy?
La evolución significa que es más grande y más comercial, y es ley de vida. Me parece positivo que más gente tenga trabajo. Miles de personas pasan por Las Dalias y dicen que es un mercado precioso que no existe en otros países. La evolución de Las Dalias es buena porque le gusta a la gente.
¿Por qué abriste una tienda en Sant Carles?
Al principio me dedicaba solo al mercado y a estar en el campo con los animalitos. Pero luego me di cuenta que debía pensar un poco en el futuro, porque me voy haciendo mayor. Pensé que, si tenía una tienda, podría hacer un poquito más de dinero y guardarlo. Fue hace ocho años. También porque el trabajo en el mercado es bastante duro: montar, desmontar, a veces con frío, viento o lluvia. Sólo Dios sabe si lo podré hacer diez años más. Si un día estoy muy cansado, por lo menos tendré la tienda para ganar lo que necesito para comer y pagar los gastos, pero espero seguir en el mercado toda mi vida. Las Dalias

I’m the hippy of the 21st-century, with a car, a phone and internet”. She sums up her life like this: “I’m happy. I have a good life and people around me who really love me. The farmers accept me with my girl name, Belinda. That isn’t something that just anyone can say about his/her life, and I don’t think you can find this tolerance and freedom elsewhere in the world”.
What does Las Dalias mean to you?
Las Dalias is a dream. I have a job that I can live on. What would I do without it? When I came to Las Dalias, I loved it: people with a great vibe, wearing clothing that I liked and they welcomed me. For me Las Dalias has always been a magical garden: wonderful people, a job that I love and great hope and joy in the future. Las Dalias gave me a permanent job and the opportunity to live in Ibiza. And besides that, I have lots of friends here who are now my family.
What do you offer at Las Dalias?
For more than 20 years, I spent half the year living in India. Since then, I’ve been selling fabrics with embroideries, mirrors and craftwork. I’ve always loved those fabrics and dressed extravagantly. Now I also have pillows, blankets, bedspreads and a wider variety of textiles. Every year I spend four months buying lovely things in India, which I then sell in the summer in Ibiza. I start at the hippy market during Easter Week and I finish at the end of November. Then I spend my time travelling, buying nice things and I also rest. In the past, I also worked the Christmas market and rested one month a year, but now I’m a bit older and I need to rest. That’s life.
Can you imagine yourself living outside of Ibiza?
My roots are in the San Carles garden and I’m not going anywhere. If a catastrophe hits and changes my life, I will adapt, just as I have done many times in the past. This isn’t the first time that I’ve moved to a different country, and you never know what can happen. But right now, all I want is to be at Las Dalias and stay in Ibiza the rest of my life. I’m very happy. I’ve been here for 20 years, I feel good here and I don’t want to change my life. I hope I live for another 60 years more.
How has Las Dalias evolved since you first arrived?
Its progress has meant becoming bigger and more commercial, and that’s just a fact of life. I think it’s good that more people can work here. Thousands of people come through Las Dalias and say that it’s a beautiful market that you don’t see in other countries. The way Las Dalias has evolved is good because the people like it.
Why did you open a shop in Sant Carles?
At first I spent my time working at the hippy market and in the field with the animals. But then I realised that I ought to think a bit about the future, because I am getting older. I thought that if I had a shop, I could make a bit more money and save it. That was eight years ago. And also because the 2016 - 2017
