1. Ik had nu voor het eerst een showroom in Parijs. 2. Ik ben pas afgestudeerd, en dus had ik niet zo veel verwachtingen. Ik vond het al een unieke kans om zo kort na mijn studie mijn collectie te mogen tonen aan een internationaal publiek van pers en buyers en hun reacties af te tasten. 3. Ik leerde vooral: ‘Expect the unexpected!’ 4. Alle reacties, contacten, gesprekken waren eigenlijk verrassingen en ervaringen op zicht. 5. Over vijf jaar zou ik er internationaal echt graag stáán. Zou het niet super zijn dat Tom Van der Borght dan synoniem is voor een speelse, nieuwe visie op couture? 6. Donkere en moeilijke tijden inspireren mij net om met een positief verhaal naar buiten te komen, een alternatief te bieden. Ik geloof in positivisme, daar haal ik inspiratie en motivatie uit. 7. Het was een superdrukke week, met weinig tijd om andere shows of showrooms te bezoeken. Ik heb wel het werk gezien van enkele jonge collega-ontwerpers uit België. Interessant om te zien hoe elk van ons een eigen verhaal en stijl zoekt. 8. Enlightenment, fun, power, playfulness, manipulation, glow-in-the-dark. 9. Londen en Berlijn zijn mijn favoriete steden, maar het leuke aan Parijs is dat álles er mode ademt. 10. Ja hoor!

TOM VAN DER BORGHT 1. This was my first showroom in Paris. 2. I only recently graduated, so I did not have high expectations. I considered this a unique opportunity to be able to show my collection to an international audience of journalists and buyers and to test the waters so soon after my studies. 3. I mainly learnt to ‘Expect the unexpected!’ 4. All the responses, contacts, discussions in fact were surprises and experiences as such. 5. In five years from now I really want to be an international success. Wouldn’t it be great if Tom Van der Borght has become synonymous of a playful, new approach to couture? 6. Dark and difficult times tend to inspire me to present a positive story, to offer an alternative. I believe in positivism. It inspires and motivates me. 7. It was a very busy week with little time to visit other shows or showrooms. I did see the work of some young Belgian designers, of some of my colleagues. It is interesting to see how each one of us is searching for his own story and style. 8. Enlightenment, fun, power, playfulness, manipulation, glow-in-the-dark. 9. London and Berlin are my favourite cities but what I like about Paris is that everything exudes fashion here. 10. Yes of course!
