Eine ganze Nacht lang ist Sirine Fattouh einem Mann durch Beirut gefolgt. Jedes Jahr während des Ramadan wandert dieser Mann namens «El Tabbal» durch dasselbe Quartier, weckt die Bewohner mit seiner Trommel und lädt sie ein, vor dem neuen Fastentag zu frühstücken und zu beten. Sirine Fattouh followed a man around Beirut throughout a whole night. Every year, during the month of Ramadan, this man named «El Tabbal» wanders around the same neighbourhood, playing drums and inviting the inhabitants to wake up, have breakfast, and pray before a new day of fasting. A Lebanese artist living between Paris and Beirut, Sirine Fattouh graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts of Paris Cergy. She teaches Visual Arts and is also a PhD candidate in Arts at the University of Paris. Fattouh is affiliated with the Centre for the Study and Research in Visual Arts. She worked at the Centre Pompidou as an assistant curator for Middle Eastern Art. Since 2006, she has shown her work in group shows and solo exhibitions.
Eine imaginäre Begegnung zwischen Peter Pan und Alice im Wunderland, mit einem im phonetischen Alphabet aufgezeichneten Dialog. Das 8mmFilmmaterial stammt von privaten Aufnahmen einer Geburtstagsparty aus dem Jahre 1975, dem ersten Jahr des libanesischen Bürgerkriegs. Gefilmt wurde im Elternhaus der Regisseurin in Ost-Beirut und im Haus ihrer Tante in West-Beirut, bevor die Stadt geteilt war. An imagined encounter between Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland and their dialogue, recorded in the phonetic alphabet. The 8mm footage is taken from the personal archive of a birthday party in 1975, the year the Lebanese civil war started. It was shot in the director’s parents' house in East Beirut and at her aunt's in West Beirut, before the city was divided. Cynthia Zaven is a composer, pianist, and artist based in Beirut. She performs classical, experimental, and improvised music in solo shows as well as in collaboration with other artists. Her projects combine different media like video, photography, performance, and archival material to explore the relationship between sound, memory, and identity.
