Cheese Lover’s Fondue

4 tsps cornstarch, divided

1 Tbls plus 1 cup dry white wine, divided 1-1/2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese

1 garlic clove, peeled and halved

1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

1/8 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1-1/2 cups shredded Swiss cheese

1-1/2 teaspoons lemon juice

1/8 teaspoon dried oregano

3 drops hot pepper sauce

Miniature smoked sausages, dill pickles and pretzels

In small bowl, combine 2 tsp cornstarch with 1 Tbls wine; set aside. Combine cheeses, remaining cornstarch; set aside. Rub sides of large saucepan with cut sides of garlic; discard garlic. Add remaining wine to the pan and heat over medium heat until bubbles form around sides of pan. Stir in lemon juice. Reduce heat to medium-low; add a handful of cheese mixture. Stir constantly, using a figure-8 motion, until almost completely melted. Continue adding cheese, a handful at a time, allowing cheese to almost completely melt between additions. Stir in the garlic powder, oregano, Worcestershire sauce and pepper sauce. Stir cornstarch mixture; gradually add to the pan. Cook and stir until mixture is thickened and smooth. Keep warm. Serve with miniature smoked sausages, dill pickles and pretzels.

Fun Facts About Valentine’s Day

By some estimates, as many as 250 million roses are grown in anticipation of Valentine’s Day every year. Countries such as Kenya, Columbia, and Ecuador grow the flowers and ship them to countries with cooler February climates for the holiday, as roses only grow in warmer temperatures. What better way to commemorate your love than on the most romantic holiday of the year? Valentine’s Day is a popular day for couples to get engaged. According to The Knot, 15% of all proposals happen on Valentine’s Day. Ironically, Valentine’s Day is also a popular day for couples to call it quits. According to recent polls, approximately 15-25% of couples break up on Valentine’s Day or in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day. According to the National Retail Federation, the most popular Valentine’s Day gifts are flowers, chocolates, and jewelry. The first heart-shaped candy box was introduced in 1862 by Richard Cadbury, son of chocolatier and Cadbury founder John Cadbury. Today, upwards of 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolates are sold each year accounting for a whopping 58 million pounds of chocolate. In addition to these traditional gifts, many people get creative for their Valentine’s by gifting bubble baths, bath bombs, spa packages, and even expensive trips. Ultimately, the best Valentine’s gift comes from the heart.
