Message from the Headteacher I truly hope that all members of our school community are keeping safe and well, our deepest condolences to all those families who have suffered a loss at this time. We are a community school and we extend our full support to all our students and their immediate families during this challenging period of lockdown recognising the different hardships it brings. Some households are suffering financial hardship, please do contact your Year Progress Leader if you believe you may now be eligible for the Free School Meal vouchers. We also appreciate the difficulties of home-schooling when working from home, many of my teachers can vouch for this! We have issued 76 laptops received from the Department of Education and loaned numerous school chrome books to many of our students who were struggling to access the remote curriculum. Please do contact your Year Progress Leader, if you feel your child may be eligible for one of these devices. This week, we updated our remote learning provision as detailed in my letter dated 8th January Letter This letter explains how your child should access the curriculum offered. Live lessons should now appear on the student’s google calendar, please bear with us if any IT teething problems still exist, but we hoped to have ironed most of these out this week. The provision offered is differentiated to reflect the student’s age and point of education. We believe that for many reasons, including physical and mental well-being, productivity and engagement, it's best to have a mixture of live and self-directed hours. Students have assignments set to do in their self-directed hours and these hours are important to allow students to complete tasks properly, get feedback, and progress. We will continually monitor the provision offered and adapt as appropriate as we move forward. Our website has now been updated with all support videos and a FAQ section for parents is now available on the Home Learning page We have always believed in the rounded education of the whole child and will continue to offer well-being and pastoral support during this time. Students are aware of our iamnotok@rodingvalley.net email. Welfare contact will continue and students will be invited to take part in increased supportive pastoral provision.
