It has been another busy week here at Roding Valley High School. At last the sun is shining and our Year 7s were able to enjoy their Sports Day. The day was met with great enthusiasm and there were some superb individual and team performances. Thank you to the PE department, especially Mr Allen and Miss Reed who brought a new dimension to these highly successful days. The Year 7s have also been entertained by a theatre company performing to them in French. “tellement excitant !” Rehearsals continue for our school production of The Lion King, the show will take place on Monday 18th July in the main hall at 7pm. Tickets are now on sale at £5.50 each or £2.50 for a child if accompanied by an adult. These can be bought at student reception. The show looks amazing and there is a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes to bring this production together. I am really excited about seeing the final show and hope to see many of you there. The Year 10 students returned to us following their work experience week. They all appear to have enjoyed themselves and had a very positive time. They seem to have returned mature and focused on the journey ahead. I would like to extend the schools sincere gratitude to Stephen Murray who has successfully coordinated the work experience programme for the last 25 years. Without doubt Stephen has helped thousands of students secure amazing experiences and extended many life chances with this programme. It was wonderful to hear about some of the employer reports. They are a real credit to our students who worked hard and were exposed to a very wide range of work related experiences. Many employers commented that they would employ them if a post was available and that they compared very favourably to students from other schools. Our Challenge and Enrichment programme saw 32 Year 10 students attend the open air theatre in Regents Park on Thursday night and enjoy a production of Henry V. Today has been the Year 12 Induction Day for students who have applied to Roding Valley Sixth Form (part of the Epping Forest Sixth Form Consortium with Debden Park High School and Epping St.Johns); students were given the opportunity to trial lessons and experience life in the sixth form. A very positive day with over 90 students attending. Our sixth form continues to go from strength to strength, we have extended our choice of A levels this year, including Further Mathematics, and offer an enhanced enrichment process. For further information contact Lee Harris our Head of Sixth Form lsharris@rodingvalley.net Today was the District Athletics and at the time of writing this bulletin I am delighted to hear that we have had numerous successes from all year groups. Have a good weekend.
