Year 11 Parents' Evening was a great opportunity for students and parents to meet the teachers and reflect on the progress that is being made. The results of the Pre-Public examinations were given to the students in a mock up of Results Day in August. On Thursday morning the students were invited to come into the school hall and open their envelopes to see how well they had done. There were lots of smiling faces, hugs and congratulations as many of the students had achieved in line with or even above their targets. However, for some it was a reality check and indicated that there is still some way to go to ensure that they perform to their best in the summer. It is important for all students to remember that there is still time to make a real difference in their outcomes. Hard work and perseverance from here on in will go a long way to ensuring that they reach their targets. There is a huge amount of support being given by the faculties and there are revision sessions taking place every day after school. It is a testament to the hard work of the teachers that they are prepared to go the extra mile to help the students at this crucial time and I would like to thank them for their sustained hard work. I would like to make mention of the fact that it is incredibly important that all of our students conduct themselves with maturity and common sense within the local community. The vast majority of our students are tremendous ambassadors for the school and I regularly meet members of the public who tell me how smart the students look at how polite and pleasant they are. However, in the last two weeks a small number of students have not covered themselves in glory in one of the local shops. I must point out that if students are found to be bringing the school into disrepute by their actions, it will lead to severe sanctions for them and could jeopardise their place in the school. I will not tolerate the good name of Roding Valley High School being tarnished by the thoughtless behaviour of a few individuals. Finally a big well done to the Year 8 boys' football team. They beat Debden Park 2 - 1 in a hard fought District Cup match. It was a close encounter with a well deserved victory being secured with goals from Harry Maslin and Louie Cooper. However, mention must be made of Alfie Marigliani who had a superb match in goal. He pulled off a number of fantastic saves and undoubtedly kept Roding Valley in the Cup. Very well done to the whole team. Have a good weekend J Luck Headteacher
