Last week was another busy week in school. The Year 9 Exam Week went well, the students actively engaged in the revised GCSE style structure of the exams and rose to the challenge. We will now use their results to decide upon the appropriate Options Pathway for every student. If your child is in Year 9 then expect to receive more information about this process in the new year. There is a Year 9 Parents’ evening on the 19th January, followed by an Option Evening on the 9th February. On Thursday many of our Year 11 students went on a theatre trip to see The Inspector Calls, an opportunity to see the live version of one of their key exam texts. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and really helpful towards their future exam. I am absolutely delighted to announce that our Careers Development Manager, Donna Mason, was invited to County Hall in Chelmsford to accept Roding Valley’s RoQA Award - the Quality Kite Award for Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance. The principles and criteria we have to evidence to achieve the award demonstrates our whole school commitment to our students’ progression and shows how we are equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make a successful transition into employment, education or training. Achieving the award also demonstrates that we have a high quality careers education programme in place. This is the third time we have been awarded this award so a massive well done to everyone and thank you for all your support to achieve it. This morning our Year 7s attended St Mary’s church, Loughton, with their Christmas Shoe boxes. Thank you to all those parents who have supported this worthwhile initiative which helps promote care in the community. The Year 12 and 13 Parents’ evening was well attended and the students should now be revising for their forthcoming exams which commence on Thursday 15th December. The students continue with their rehearsals for the Christmas pantomime, Aladdin. It looks absolutely brilliant and I really hope that it will be well supported given the students’ hard work and commitment. The show is on Tuesday 13th December and tickets are available from student reception. They cost £5 for adults and tickets for concessions/children are £3.50. School Christmas lunch will be on Tuesday 13th December and tickets can be purchased via the food tills. I hope to see many of you at the Christmas Concert this evening, it starts at 6.30pm in the main hall. With kind regards Sharon Jenner Deputy Headteacher on behalf of Mr Luck
