Where to Start
Instagram is definitely the go to social media platform to engage with your audience, regardless of your industry. From fitness instructors and photographers, to restaurants, bars, and hair salons, your businesses are being searched for and stalked on IG all. the. time. So naturally, you’ll want to put your best foot, I mean photo, forward! Let’s break down where and what to start with to get your business on IG.
If you haven’t already, download the Instagram app and create an account. You’ll need to set up your profile first. Keep in mind that when IG users check out your profile, they’ll only give it a few-second glance to decide whether they’ll engage or not. Your goal is to make sure you’re presenting your business in an authentic and compelling way so that the user follows your account, clicks your URL, likes your posts, or all three actions!

Now, let’s level up and turn that account into a business profile. Skip ahead to page 36 and complete your Instagram Account Assessment. By following the simple steps I’ve laid out, you’ll ensure your business is not only set up accurately, but presenting itself in the best way possible, too.
Your new, compelling profile builds the like factor with followers. Now let’s get out there and make some friends! To do this you’ll need to follow other users. “Following” is when you opt in to see another user’s content on your feed. Search for and follow accounts that are interesting to you or align with your business, good examples in your industry, any partners or affiliates to your business, and add a few business competitors while you’re at it. Plus, you can also follow back any loyal customers who have followed you.
Then, your other actions on IG, like how you post and how you respond to others, builds on those relationships. Flip the page to learn how to best show up as a business Instagrammer.
