You know the moment. The moment when it all comes together. The moment when you put the finishing touches to your look, and create a style that‘s uniquely your own. The moment when your style becomes the start of a great story‌

The 2015 KMS California Campaign shoot captures “The Moment Before” for eight different personalities. Models are shot before going out to a club, waiting for friends to pick them up, catching the last glimpse in a mirror, or putting the final touches to their look. “The Moment Before” celebrates style through fashion, different personalities, and great hair, highlighting the brand essence:

The haircuts feature techniques from the KMS IQ Cutting Method, and the Cut to Style concept, which is all about creating style versatility within one haircut; each haircut can be styled in multiple ways.

One model might have a style that’s a little bit smoother, and another that has more texture and exposes more layers. The different style equations that we’ve created for the models give each haircut the unique feeling that a KMS haircut has.” Sonna Brado 9

Berlin offers unique glamour, culture, art and architecture – and being one of the most creative, cool and artistic places on earth, it was the perfect place to host the Color Zoom Global Event 2014 and unveil the Color Zoom 2015 Collection – Traditional Rebels. The 3-day event encompassed creativity, celebration and inspiration with a series of Look & Learn seminars, stunning shows and awesome parties plus the announcement of the Global Color Zoom Winners 2014.

Color Zoom Live Competition Finals 75 national Color Zoom Competition finalists from 28 different countries competed live and simultaneously in three categories: Creative, New Talent and Partner. The challenge was to recreate the photographic entry that won their place at the global final. They had just three hours to turn out the most important work of their career. The international jury was made up of hair, fashion and beauty experts from around the globe including British Hairdresser of the Year, Mark Leeson, Australia’s most awarded hairdresser, Benni Tognini and Fashion Director of Modern Salon, Maggie Mulhern.

Color Zoom Inspirational Fashion Show Station Berlin, provided the venue for the announcement of the Global Color Zoom ‘14 Winners. Cory Couts, Global President of Kao Salon welcomed the audience before John Moroney, Global Vice President of Education introduced the new Color Zoom ’15 collection, Traditional Rebels – a combination of three distinctive trends: Elegant Edge, Style Clash and Reinvented Tribal. The evening’s show began with a visually captivating, theatrical and sexy Berlin cabaret show. Opened by a Marlene Dietrich impersonator the audience was transported back to the 1930’s and the glamour of Shanghai Express, then catapulted through Berlin’s cultural heritage right through to the techno raves of the 00’s. Traditional Rebels was then unveiled in spectacular fashion as Goldwell’s Master Team, including the UK’s Lisa Whiteman, presented an energetic Traditional Rebels Catwalk show culminating in their avant-garde interpretations of the collection.

The winners will now become part of the Global Color Zoom Creative Team, joining the Color Zoom Master Team to create the 2016 trend collection. They will experience an international photo shoot, and become ambassadors for Goldwell’s Color Zoom, travelling the world and enjoying global PR opportunities. Berlin provided the perfect backdrop for Color Zoom ‘14, soaked in the essence of creativity, artistry and non-stop parties. Next year the Global Color Zoom Event will evolve to become “Global Zoom” – and where better to celebrate a new era of Goldwell and Color Zoom? See you in LAS VEGAS!

HARE & BONE, LONDON

Award-winning stylist Sam Burnett recently launched the HARE & BONE brand. His first HARE & BONE salon, a converted convenience store, recently opened in Great Titchfield Street, W1

What was the inspiration for the interior? I wanted to create a modern, minimalist and functional space. Taking inspiration from London Underground tiles, NYC boutique hotels, contemporary London restaurants and industrial spaces. How long did the refurbishment of the building take and when did the salon open? 13 weeks and we opened the ground floor on December 3rd 2014 Did you experience any challenges? Yes it took 8 months to negotiate the lease, this was a big learning curve. We had a severe asbestos problem, a rotten shopfront, a leaking damp basement, and a dated electrical phase board. What is your favourite part of the salon? The floating industrial staircase and luxury massage chairs in our private backwash areas and I love the overall feeling of warmth created by the team.

--WHAT MATTERS TO YOU? ---

Former winner of North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year and Artistic Director of the award-winning Mark Leeson Artistic Team, Shaun Hall shares what matters to him: I became inspired to become a hairdresser after watching my best friend cut hair - I’d never considered hairdressing as a career before. I’ve always had a passion for art and architecture and was drawn to the way you could create styles with hair. I love vibrant, creative colour which is beautiful with an artistic element. It’s all about creating a look which makes the client feel beautiful. My career started in a small local salon when I was 17, which I enjoyed but I wanted to do more. After six months I started as a junior at Mark Leeson Hair Body & Mind and over 12 years worked my way up the ranks. I was the joint assistant manager in the flagship Mansfield salon, and recently became manager of the new Mark Leeson Hair Body & Mind salon in Chesterfield.

--Shaun Hall MANAGER OF MARK LEESON HAIR BODY & MIND, CHESTERFIELD ---

“good communication is the most important factor in business”

The move was quite emotional really because I’d spent 12 years of my life in Mansfield, it’s where I had grown as a person and learned everything to get me where I am today. But it was a new chapter in my life so of course it was really exciting too. I was lucky to have such a smooth transition from the Mansfield salon thanks to the great support from Mark and his partner Richard. They popped into the salon over the first few days to make sure everything was going well, and they are always on the phone whenever we need any help. The Chesterfield salon got off to a flying start- we’ve been really busy! The Mayor came to the opening night which created quite a buzz. Lots of existing clients followed us from Mansfield so we were fully booked straight away and we started with a solid client base. It’s been a really exciting time for everybody, and with Mark Leeson being crowned British Hairdresser of the Year it’s generated even more interest in our salon. We’re all systems go, fully booked every day, adding new clients to our books, and soon to be looking for more staff. What does the future hold? Who knows? I know that Mark would like to branch out and expand his salons to reach out to more clients but I’d like to stay here in Chesterfield - I’m very happy here. The people in Chesterfield are really friendly, they always say hi when they see me out in shops and on the street - although I wouldn’t say I’m a local celebrity quite yet! Mark has been a great teacher and he’s instilled the belief in me that anything I wanted to do, I could do it. That’s the only advice I’d give really - work hard. Sometimes you’ll work extra hours off your own back but it all pays off. Give it your all, that’s the way I was brought up. Having Goldwell as our partner, they’re almost like a family. Some companies are quite formal but with Goldwell, they’re always there to speak to you when you need them. I’ve always believed that good communication is the most important factor in business.”
