#SaveSunnyMount As many of you are aware, there is currently an application for the construction of a commercial property in Sunny Mount Park that is approximately 30,000 square feet plus above and underground parking. This application is threetimes the size of the allowed amount under the existing zoning. Local residents are working together to stop this development, preserve the park as much as possible, reduce traffic and maintain a safe neighbourhood. There are some recent updates including a public meeting and petition, which you’re encouraged to participate in.

A common discussion we find ourselves in revolves around the challenges that first time buyers face in today’s market.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of ways to generate additional income.

Rather than sitting and sulking, there are many options to explore. In episode 103 of KT Quick Tips we keep it real and tell first time buyers what it takes to buy a home.

Ask for a raise -- Getting a raise is often easier than you would think and all it requires is asking. Consider applying for a different position within the company or offer to take on additional responsibilities.

STOP SPENDING Look for opportunities to cut back on spending such as your morning coffee and eating out for lunch. Cut out your weekend drinking and settle for a less glamorous vacation this year.

Not only will this help you redirect wasted funds towards your down payment for a new home, you’re likely going to make these changes once you become a home owner anyway!

Second Income -- Get a second job! If not a ‘traditional’ part-time gig, consider one of many online options such as being an online assistant. Websites like UpWork.com connect you with employers looking to hire online help.

Sell, sell, sell -- Purge and sell things you aren’t using. Also, consider going to local auctions and thrift stores to find things you can re-sell online.
