Welcome

from the Deputy Head of Secondary (overseeing Boarding)

Here at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar, the boarders constitute the very heartbeat of our school and indeed, the atmosphere that pervades is richer for the presence of our boarding community. While offering a traditional British boarding school model in a Malaysian setting, we are forward thinking in our approach, and while we could never replace the love and care of a student’s home, our boarding houses offer experiences, memories and friendships that are enhanced by the boarding environment. Dedicated house staff are focused on creating a ‘second home’ for our students, making sure our boarding houses are a place of comfort, support and belonging for all who live there.

Our holistic approach to education is rooted in the belief that we should be developing students beyond the bounds of the classroom, allowing them to grow and to prepare for all the opportunities and challenges of life beyond school.

We believe happy students will be successful ones, and therefore we focus on enriching all aspects of our students’ lives, aiding them in their development into confident and well-rounded young adults and global citizens.

Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar is an amazing school, full of happy students who benefit from our diverse pool of teaching experience and the abundance of facilities that sit within our 80-acre site. We are extremely proud of the international boarding provision we provide and are confident that our students are ready to ‘Make it’ in the ever changing global world that awaits them when they leave.

Welcome & Introduction

from the Houseparent of Irinah

Welcome! My name is Angie Lee. I have been the Houseparent of Irinah for over 18 years. Previous to that, I was a House Tutor in Naquiah House Girls and the ECA Coordinator of the school. Before I joined KTJ in 2001, I was the Operations Executive of a Cruise Ship and I also managed a star fruit farm. At the moment I am a Mathematics teacher, teaching Forms 1 to 5 Mathematics and Additional Mathematics. I am a Johorean, single parent and I have a daughter at tertiary level. To destress, I garden, sew and read.

The Irinians are known in KTJ as “The Dynamites”! The core energy of Irinah is the multicultural and multiracial girls from more than 30 different countries.

It is a joy to see the students go about their busy schedules, supporting one another. They are known to always make the most of all the activities that are available in School, whilst balancing that with their academic prowess. Irinah is their home away from home. In our big family here, the Form 3 and 4 juniors in the house look up to their Form 5 and 6 seniors. The seniors are the driving force in the house and they always bond with and protect their juniors, just like “big sisters” do.

Fun fact:The new girls sometimes cry due to homesickness when they first join us and they also cry when they have to leave Irinah, as they don’t want to depart from their second home. Relationships and memories that they build here will last a lifetime and the experience you gain here will be like no other! Be bold, take a risk and take that first step into Irinah, the Dynamite House. We welcome you with open arms. Once you enter, you won’t want to leave.

Welcome from the House Captain

Hello! I’m Khayra and I pride myself on being an Irinian, through and through. Irinah consists of the girls I call my sisters who never fail to cheer me on, to make me smile and to spread endless amounts of joy. What’s so special about boarding at KTJ is the irreplaceable bonds you form with such a large variety of people; from the cheeky Form 1s to the seniors I admire, they’ve all shaped me to become the person I am today. After 8 years here, I’ve been extremely lucky to partake in all KTJ has to offer, allowing me to broaden my horizons and step outside my comfort zone. The variety of co-curricular activities available are outstanding; beyond my academics, there are numerous sports, clubs and more fit for each and every student. KTJ has granted me an unforgettable high school experience filled with endless opportunities whilst being surrounded by an incredibly warm community. I look forward to welcoming all the new baby dragons with open arms!

Irinah House Staff

Hello! I am Madam Yeoh and I have been a Resident Tutor in Irinah since 2011. I have been teaching in KTJ since 1998, first as a PE teacher and now as a Chinese language teacher. I enjoy jogging, playing badminton and swimming but most of all, I love cats! For me, the best part of being a house tutor is getting to know so many inspiring students.

Ms Tie Ing Ing

Irinah Resident Tutor

Hello there everyone! My name is Esther. I joined Irinah boarding house as a Tutor in August 2023. Over the past six years, I have had the privilege of working with children, and I must say, it has been a rewarding experience. The opportunity to get to know and motivate the young generation has filled my heart with joy and purpose. My previous experiences have primarily revolved around Early Years and Primary School students. I am eager to embark on a new journey with the secondary School students here at Irinah. On a personal note, I love singing and dancing. I am an avid fan of K-dramas. I am the proud parent of three cats and one dog. I am eagerly looking forward to meeting every one of you. Together, let us create an environment where students can flourish, discover their passions, and build a solid foundation for their future.

Irinah House Staff

Hi, my name is Manimegalai Ganes. You can call me Matron Mani. I have been working as a Matron in Irinah house since August 2018. My responsibilities include looking after the Irinah girls, taking care of them when they are sick and assisting them when they need me and being responsible for any maintenance or repair work in the house.

Apart from my duties in the house, I love spending quality time with my children and cooking their favourite biryani. In addition to that, most of the time when the KTJ Health center needs an extra helping hand in various nursing works, I would usually be one of the first ones to volunteer to help them. I enjoy working as a Matron and love looking after the lovely girls in Irinah, whom I treat as if they were my own children.
