Durch geschickte Umgestaltung und Wiederverwendung - und gewagte Farbtupfer - gelang Knox Design eine clevere und nachhaltige Neugestaltung einer geliebten Familienvilla in Felanitx.
When the owners walked through the door of their country villa in Felanitx, they were overcome with emotion. It had been more than six months since they’d visited from their UK home, and while they had every faith in Justine Knox, on the way from the airport they’d felt a sense of nervous excitement. The villa, a treasured part of their family for decades, was drenched in memories and full of sentimental value. It had just undergone a transformation. What would it be like; would it still feel the same?

Habían pasado más de seis meses desde su visita desde el Reino Unido y, aunque confiaban plenamente en Justine Knox, en el camino desde el aeropuerto se habían sentido algo nerviosos. La villa, un tesoro de su familia durante décadas, estaba empapada de recuerdos y llena de valor sentimental. Acababa de sufrir una transformación. ¿Cómo sería? ¿Seguiría siendo igual?
Als die Eigentümer durch die Tür ihres Landhauses bei Felanitx traten, wurden sie von ihren Gefühlen überwältigt. Vor mehr als sechs Monate waren sie aus Großbritannien zu Besuch gekommen, und obwohl sie volles Vertrauen in Justine Knox hatten, waren sie auf dem Weg vom Flughafen nervös und aufgeregt gewesen.
Seit Jahrzehnten ist das Haus ein Schatz der Familie, voller Erinnerungen und hat einen ideellen Wert. Vor kurzem wurde es umgestaltet. Wie würde es aussehen, würde es sich noch so anfühlen wie früher?

INSTANTLY UPLIFTING
Entering the newly-designed space, they were enraptured. Their villa, though much cherished, had been looking tired. Now, it didn’t feel the same - it felt renewed.
Gone were the dated floors and light fittings, replaced by elegant, modern choices. The beautiful original beams had been painted, the wooden windows painted flawless white, and the once-harsh iron window railings and curtain poles retreated in a soft tone of rusted brass.
Standing in the kitchen, taking in the bold blue bespoke units, quartz stone work surfaces and wicker stools, made the heart sing. Justine Knox is famed for her love and clever use of colour, and this room was a masterclass. ‘Colours are the smiles of nature’ goes the saying, and nowhere was this truer than this stone-built finca, surrounded by olive groves.

UN EFECTO ESTIMULANTE
Al entrar en el espacio recién diseñado, se quedaron embelesados. Antes, su casa, aunque muy querida, parecía cansada. Ahora no parecía la misma, sino renovada. Atrás quedaban los suelos y los apliques de luz anticuados, sustituidos por opciones elegantes y modernas. Las hermosas vigas originales se habían pintado, las ventanas de madera lucían un blanco impoluto, y las barandillas de hierro de las ventanas y las barras de las cortinas, antaño rudas, se deslizaban ahora con un suave tono de latón oxidado.
De pie en la cocina, contemplando los atrevidos muebles azules hechos a medida, las encimeras de piedra de cuarzo y los taburetes de mimbre, el corazón se llenaba de alegría. Justine Knox es famosa por su amor y su inteligente uso del color, y esta habitación fue una clase magistral. “Los colores son las sonrisas de la naturaleza”, dice el refrán, y en ninguna parte era más cierto que en esta finca de piedra, rodeada de olivares.
SOFORTIGE WIRKUNG
Beim Betreten des neu gestalteten Raums waren sie hellauf begeistert. Das Haus war natürlich in die Jahre gekommen. Doch jetzt wirkte es nicht mehr veraltet, sondern aufpoliert. Elegante und moderne Elemente lösten die veralteten Fußböden und Beleuchtungskörper ab. Die wunderschönen Originalbalken wurden frisch gestrichen, die Holzfenster erstrahlen nun in makellosem Weiß, und die einst harten Eisengeländer und Vorhangstangen leuchten in einem sanften Ton aus verrostetem Messing.
Wenn man in der Küche die kräftigen blauen, maßgefertigten Schränke, die Arbeitsflächen aus Quarzstein und die Korbhocker betrachtet, geht einem das Herz auf. Justine Knox ist berühmt für ihre Liebe zu Farben und deren geschickten Einsatz, und dieser Raum ist eine Meisterleistung. „Farben sind das Lächeln der Natur“, sagt ein Sprichwort, und nirgendwo trifft dies besser zu als in dieser von Olivenhainen umgebenen Stein-Finca.

MALLORCA DREAMING
The sky above blazed blue, interior highlights reflecting its vivid, carefree hue. Outside, the shutters were lovingly painted a charming aquamarine, and everywhere, from the lounge to the bedrooms and bathrooms, caressed the soul with relaxing, warm Mediterranean shades of orange, green and teal.
Every week, dreaming of sunny skies and their beloved second home, the owners had looked forward to receiving updates and ideas directly from Justine. The use of a bright colour scheme had been a gamble but it had definately paid off.
By blending old and new and adding a large dose of contemporary comfort, their choice of interior designer had levelled-up the beloved old villa, while maintaining its essence. Complete with Moroccan-feel bedrooms - the master suite replete with statement four-poster bed - the villa in the valley would continue to be the family’s happy refuge for years to come.
As the air-conditioning hummed, the sparkling pool and loungers beckoned and the long, solid-wood table called out for bowls and glasses to be placed, the owners kicked off their shoes, and started settling into their Mallorcan country escape.
SOÑANDO EN MALLORCA
El cielo era azul y las luces del interior reflejaban una tonalidad viva y despreocupada. En el exterior, las contraventanas estaban pintadas con cariño de un encantador color aguamarina, y en todas partes, desde el salón hasta los dormitorios y cuartos de baño, nos acariciaban el alma los relajantes y cálidos tonos mediterráneos naranjas, verdes y turquesas.
Cada semana, mientras soñaban con cielos soleados y su amada segunda residencia, los propietarios recibían noticias e ideas directamente de Justine.
El uso de una paleta de colores vivos fue una apuesta arriesgada, pero mereció la pena. Mezclando lo antiguo y lo nuevo y añadiendo una gran dosis de confort contemporáneo, la elección de la interiorista había sublimado la vieja y querida villa, manteniendo su esencia. Esta villa en el valle, con sus habitaciones de estilo marroquí -la principal con una cama con dosel-, seguirá siendo el refugio de la familia durante muchos años.
Mientras el aire acondicionado sonaba a lo lejos, la resplandeciente piscina y las tumbonas hacían señas y la larga mesa de madera maciza pedía que se colocaran cuencos y vasos. Los propietarios se quitaron los zapatos y empezaron a acomodarse en su refugio mallorquín.
EIN TRAUM AUF MALLORCA
Der strahlend blaue Himmel spiegelt sich in den Innenräumen als lebendiger, unbeschwerter Farbton wider. Die Fensterläden sind liebevoll in einem bezaubernden Aquamarin gestrichen, und überall, vom Wohnzimmer bis zu den Schlafzimmern und Bädern, streicheln entspannende, warme mediterrane Farbtöne in Orange, Grün und Teal die Seele.
Täglich träumten die Eigentümer von der Sonne und ihrem Zweitwohnsitz und freuten sich darauf, von Justine aktuelle Informationen und Ideen zu erhalten. Der Einsatz eines hellen Farbschemas war ein Wagnis gewesen, aber es hatte sich definitiv gelohnt.
Mit einer Mischung aus Alt und Neu und einer großen Portion modernen Wohnkomforts hat die von ihnen gewählte Innenarchitektin das geliebte alte Haus wieder auf Vordermann gebracht, ohne dabei sein Wesen zu verändern. Ergänzt durch marokkanisch anmutende Schlafzimmer - die Master-Suite ist mit einem echten Himmelbett ausgestattetwird das Haus im Tal auch in den kommenden Jahren ein beliebter Rückzugsort für die Familie sein.
