Uxbridge Community Gardens applications available for 2013

Would you like to join the Uxbridge Community Gardens this spring? Applications for new gardeners will be available on January 2nd at the Uxbridge Free Public Library, the Uxbridge Senior Center and at the Uxbridge Town Hall. An application can also be downloaded from the Community Gardens page on the Uxbridge town web site (www.uxbridge-ma.gov). The Community Gardens are located on town-owned land on Sutton Street adjacent to the Youth Soccer League fields. A garden is available to any resident or taxpayer of the town of Uxbridge. The fee is $20 per 20' x 25' plot per season. There are also some double plots (40' x 25') for $40 per season. The gardens are totally organic; no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides may be used. For more information pick up (or download) a copy of the Ground Rules, Organic Gardening Guidelines and Release with your application. The deadline for 2013 applications and payment is March 8th for both new and returning gardeners. New gardeners must include a signed appli-

Rotary to host 10th Annual Wine & Chocolate Tasting The Rotary Club of Uxbridge has announced the date for their 10th Annual Wine & Chocolate Tasting Event featuring Live and Silent Auctions. Please mark your calendar to save the date for this popular fundraising event to be held at Blissful Meadows Golf Club, 801 Chockalog Road, Uxbridge, on February 9, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. This year’s event will include two floors of Wine and Beer Selections courtesy of Lynch’s Riverview Wine and Spirits, an assortment of Chocolate Desserts and Candies, Hot and Cold Hors’ D’oevres, live and silent charity auctions and much more. The funds raised by the club over the past year have provided scholarships to high school graduates in Uxbridge, Northbridge, Douglas and the Christian School, warm coats and hats to children in need in our community, aid to local food pantries and senior center, sponsorship of CPR Classes at the local Fire Department, and funds for

the purchase of a camera for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UMass Memorial Hospital, just to name a few. It is the goal of the Rotary Club of Uxbridge to continue to make a difference here in the Blackstone Valley and also around the world, through an affiliation with Rotary International. With the support and generosity of the community, they will continue to provide a helping hand wherever they see a need. You can show your support by simply attending the event! Or, if you choose, you can sponsor the event by placing an ad in their program book or by donating an item for the auction. Tickets are $30 in advance and any tickets that are remaining the day of the event will be sold at $35 at door. Hope to see you there! Tickets make a great Valentine’s Day Gift! Tickets will be available for purchase from Rotary Club Members, online at www.uxbridgerotaryclub.org at Lynch’s Riverview Wine and Spirits, and Blissful Meadows Golf Club. Wine ordered the evening of the event will receive a special 20% discount. In the event of inclement weather, it will re-scheduled to a later date. The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at the Valley Café on Church Street in Whitinsville. Meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. and all other meetings are at noon. Please drop in to one of the meetings if you are interested in learning more about Rotary and how you can become a part of this group dedicated to “Service above Self”.

"Anything Goes" Photography Show Attention all photographers who enjoy capturing the beauty of our world! The 2nd Annual "Anything Goes" Photography Show will be showcased from January 11th-31st at the well known Alternatives Gallery at 5 S. Main St. in Uxbridge. Participation in the show is open to members and non-members. There are no restrictions in size, content or method. Cash prizes will be awarded by juror A. Cemal Ekins PhD. There will be a 20 percent commission taken on all sales for the non-profit Alternatives. The fee for 3 submissions is $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Signup is via their website at http:// www.bvaa.org/BVAA/Submissionform.html. Come be a part of this exiting and entertaining event. The opening reception will be held January 11th from 5-8:00 p.m.. The January meeting will feature Damianos' Photography presenting "What's Wrong With This Picture". The meeting will be held January 15th 6:30 - 9 p.m. at the Whitin Community Center, and is open to the public. Attorney Quinlan Known for his willingness to debate as a young child, Kevin Quinlan was often told that he should become a lawyer. His aspiration came true as a young adult, after leaving the U.S. Army, at which time he was fortunate enough to earn a full scholarship to New England School of Law.
