Uxbridge Community Gardens Open
It is that time again! Gardening season is on the horizon and it’s time to think about growing those luscious veggies and amazing flowers Only a few garden spaces remain to be reserved for the 2025 season at the Uxbridge Community Gardens, according to Chairman Kim Demers “We had a good year last year and a lot of gardeners are now returning to their spaces year after year This is our 13th season and things have really settled in We have a water tap near every garden and provide wood chips for paths and manure for fertility at no extra cost to the gardeners There are also many experienced gardeners who are always willing to help others with problems or gardening questions”
There are so many reasons to have a garden according to many health authorities In addition to eating better, a garden provides exercise and stress relief for the gardener Gardens can teach kids about the food that they take for granted and build communities around common goals But you know all that; so if this is the year for you to begin a garden, it could not be easier
A garden measuring 25 feet by 20 feet can be yours for $25 a year The Community Gardens page on the Town of Uxbridge website (look under Boards and Committees) contains the Application, Release and Ground Rules that will guide you through the simple process of reserving a space The season opens on April 19th, so there is no time like NOW to begin planning that beautiful garden

Gearing up for a fierce ‘Minute Madness’ Reading Showdown
The Uxbridge Free Public Library is thrilled to once again participate in the Minute Madness Reading Competition, a March Madness bracket-style reading event that challenges participants to log their reading minutes each week
This exciting reading challenge, inspired by the energy of March Madness, will feature libraries from across Massachusetts competing to record the highest number of minutes read each week in March Following a bracket-style format, libraries will go head-to-head with winners advancing to subsequent rounds until a champion is determined Every minute spent reading whether it’s books, audiobooks, or articles counts toward Uxbridge’s total
“We’re excited to bring our community together with this fun and spirited reading challenge,” said Director Chris Powloka “In years past, Minute Madness has been a great way to encourage everyone to read more, chal-
lenge themselves, and have some competitive fun as we rally behind the library This new tradition really energizes our readers ”
The competition kicks off on March 1 with a “free-for-all” round, where the top 16 performing libraries will secure a spot on the bracket From there, libraries will face off in weekly matchups until only one remains In 2024, Uxbridge made an impressive showing with over 116,000 minutes read
Residents are encouraged to sign up and start logging their reading minutes to help Uxbridge climb the ranks Those who log at least 800 minutes throughout the month of March will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of three $25 gift cards to Honeysuckle Roastery and Cafe, generously provided by the Friends of the Library To participate, visit uxbridgelibrary bean-stack org, download the Beanstack mobile app, or get a paper
log from the library to track and report your minutes

Blackstone Valley Physical Therapy Services (BVPTS) is proud to add the highest level of pain relief with the LightForce® XLi Deep Tissue Therapy Laser to the services we offer our patients on top of exceptional physical therapy care
Laser therapy is a surgery-free, drugfree option for individuals suffering from both acute and chronic pain
Treatments are fast, safe, and painless
Most patients see results in 3 to 5 treatment sessions, and patients can expect notable pain relief, with the effects lasting longer after each treatment This allows our patients to do more in physical therapy treatment sessions as well as at home
Laser therapy is clinically proven to reduce pain and inflammation associated with many common musculoskeletal conditions, such as lower back pain, shoulder or hip bursitis, tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis Laser therapy is endorsed by professional clinical organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and the International Assn for the Study of Pain (IASPÆ) with over 3,000 research studies having been conducted
The LightForce®XLi Deep Tissue Therapy Laser is FDA cleared and represents a great advance in medical technology Laser therapy is a medical treatment that uses focused light to stimulate a process within the cell c a l l e d † p h o t o b i o m o d u l a t i o n † ( P B M )
During PBM, the light interaction triggers a biological cascade of events that leads to an increase in cellular metabolism and a decrease in both pain and inflammation This treatment is FDA cleared and enables patients to have an alternative to drug and surgery for pain relief BVPTS is proud to provide another effective treatment for patients with this latest proven technology

For many retirees, financial security is a top priority A Home Equity Conver-sion Mortgage (HECM), commonly known as a reverse mortgage, provides a flexible financial tool that allows homeowners aged 62 and older to access a portion of their home equity without monthly mortgage payments
There are several reasons why individuals turn to a reverse mortgage, each rooted in the desire for financial stability and peace of mind
1 Staying in Their Home After Retirement: Many retirees wish to age in place, but rising costs can make maintaining a home challenging A reverse mortgage allows homeowners to tap into their equity to cover property taxes, home maintenance, and everyday expenses helping them stay in a familiar environment without the burden of traditional mortgage payments
2 Extending Retirement Funds: Retirees often rely on savings, Social
Security, and investments to fund their golden years However, unexpected expenses or market downturns can deplete these resources faster than anticipated A reverse mortgage can serve as a strategic tool to supplement retirement accounts, allowing funds to last longer by reducing the need for withdrawals during market downturns
3 Managing Higher Costs of Living: Inflation and rising costs for essentials like healthcare, utilities, and groceries can put pressure on a fixed income A reverse mortgage provides additional cash flow to help cover these increasing expenses, ensuring retirees maintain their desired lifestyle without financial stress
4 Supplementing Income After the Loss of a Spouse: Losing a spouse can be emotionally and financially challenging, particularly when household income decreases A reverse mortgage can help surviving spouses maintain financial stability by
replacing lost income and covering necessary expenses without the need to sell their home or make drastic lifestyle changes
5 Paying Off Existing Debt:
Many retirees carry mortgage balances, credit card debt, or medical bills into retirement A reverse mortgage can be used to pay off existing debt, eliminating monthly payments and freeing up cash for other needs
6 Home Renovations and Aging-inPlace Modifications:
As homeowners age, their needs change Reverse mortgage proceeds can be used to fund home renovations, such as adding safety features, widening doorways, or installing stairlifts allowing individuals to live safely and comfortably in their homes for years to
come
7 A Smart Financial Strategy for the Right Homeowner: A reverse mortgage isn’t the right fit for everyone, but for many retirees, it pro-
vides a valuable source of financial flexibility Whether the goal is to remain in their home, supplement retirement income, or handle life’s unexpected expenses, a reverse mortgage can be a powerful tool for longterm financial security Consulting with a trusted reverse mortgage professional can help determine if it’s the right solution for an individual’s unique situation
Ruta Convent is a reverse mortgage specialist who has lived in Uxbridge for over 33 years, where she raised her family and helped her parents age in place After 40 years of helping her clients finance their homes with traditional mortgages and equity loans, her focus shifted to the reverse mortgage product so seniors could enjoy financial security in their retirement years All content in this article is provided by the writer individually and not supplied by any past or present employer Ruta can be reached at 508-641-1464 or by emailing rconvent@mutualmortgage com
