Douglas to celebrate Octoberfest This month Main Street Douglas will once again host one of the Blackstone Valley’s most loved and well attended events. On Saturday, October 4th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Main Street in Douglas will be closed to traffic and opened up to over 10,000 people, a street full of vendors, and 2 stages of top notch entertainment. Sponsored by GBI & Unibank, the event will include children’s programming, rides and games for the whole family. This year the entertainmnet will be ex-tended up Depot Street with Jon Short & Zack Slick performing at the Mason’s Lodge. Visa, MC, & Discover will be accepted this year for our midway and train rides. Digger’s liquors will be putting the ‘Fest’ in Octoberfest with their craft brew tastings. The Douglas Farmers market will be setup, In-Gear will be hosting a car show, and all your favorite foods from the Band Boosters Baked Potato to the Firefighters French Fries, to the Kettle Corn, the Sokol’s Galumpkis, and so much more! The schedule of events as well as vendor forms and a list of ways you can help are all located on the Douglas Octoberfest website located at www.douglasoctoberfest.com. Food, Music and Family Fun highlight Oktoberfest in Hopedale The sixth annual award winning Oktoberfest in Hopedale will have several new attractions and special guests at this year’s event; Rock N Roll Racing remote control cars, a farmer’s market and many guest characters are new to this year’s family event. In addition to the special attractions there will be 13 live bands including several acoustic bands in the Biergarten throughout the day. A new Animal Experience at the Family Fun area, a “chow-dah” fest, art exhibit and sale and tethered hot air balloon rides are just some of the activities highlighting the 2014 Oktoberfest in Hopedale on Saturday, October 4th.

Held on the shores of the Hopedale Pond, in and around the Little Red Shop Museum, and on surrounding streets and park areas. Oktoberfest kicks off at 10 a.m. and is open with German music at the Biergarten until 9:00 p.m. Oktoberfest in Hopedale, the recipients of two Best Local Music Event awards from WMRC Radio’s Local Music Awards, will delight music lovers with Main Stage performances from We Were Astronauts, The Teter Todders, Paternull, Jenn Tefft Band, Whiskeytone, Tony Soul Project, Loose Salute, and TD and the Change. doux, and the ever-popular Biergarten crowd pleasers the Double Eagle Oktoberfest Band. Also, performing at the bandstand from noon to 1 p.m. a family friendly, positive rock n roll band known as Character Rising for all ages. A day filled with activities for folks of all ages. From a 70’ model train exhibit on display at Atria Draper Place, a professional whiffle ball exhibition and clinic, to a fine art show and sale in the Atria Draper Place, downtown Hopedale will be buzzing. There will be dozens of food vendors selling German, American and other foods alongside arts and craft vendors, jewelry vendors, pet

goods suppliers, leather vendors, antique sellers and more. Kids will enjoy Wally the Green Monster from the Boston Red Sox along with characters “Finz” of the Worcester Sharks, Orson the Polar Bear from Polar Soda, Jake from the Worcester Bravehearts, Bubbles the Blue Elephant, Captain Jack, Sparky the fire dog, bounce houses, pony rides, and a petting zoo. With over 100 vendors and all the attractions, there’s something for everyone. The Little Red Shop Museum will be open for tours until 5:00 p.m. At 11:00 a.m., the Biergarten continued on page 9
